Totally Trippy Mashups
By DJ Useo
Here we are again. Just as every year before this one, I've mixed up an entire albums' worth of way psychedelic mashups. Also, just as before, I did it because of the influence of people like you. Don't think it was a hardship though, it was truly a labor of love. I took my time over the past year & even replaced many of the tracks as the album evolved.
As before, it has a wide range of material going from sixties' psych-rock to goa to rave and more. I took pity on your ears a couple times with an actually mellow track, but most live up to the 'intense' part of the name. I got the chance to run nearly all the tracks past some top names in the bootleg field, so these are already tested tracks that passed the exam. I'm powerful confident you'll find plenty to enjoy. Here's the playlist -
DJ Useo - Intense Psychedelia 4 playlist

There's also a 23-minute mix of the whole album for those who want to check out IP4 first before committing to the entire file. I yielded to peer pressure and raised the mp3 bitrate to the max for the album cuts. Hope you find favour in the album. Tell your friends!

The lesson Studs has taught me is that your life is over when you stop living it. If you can truly "retire," you had a job, but not an occupation. Observing people like Studs and the author Paul Theroux, and the great sports writer William Nack, and directors like Robert Altman and Sidney Lumet, I have seen those whose lifelong occupations absorb them, and who are not merely maintaining, but growing.

Who Snapped The Photos
Ansel or Uncle Earl
In the world of vintage photography, a new name is coming into focus: Uncle Earl.
The late Earl Brooks is at the centre of a heated debate over negatives purportedly shot by Ansel Adams and possibly worth millions.
The controversy has made international headlines, with the owner of the glass plates insisting they have been authenticated as the legendary nature photographer's work.
So little was known about Brooks at first that the arts community and the media dubbed him Uncle Earl.

Clashes With Ex Over 'Wall Street'
Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas' return to his Academy Award-winning "Wall Street" role also spawned a legal sequel to his decade-old divorce.
Lawyers representing the actor and ex-wife Diandra Douglas tangled in a New York court Tuesday over her claim that she's entitled to half his earnings from "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," set to open Sept. 24.
The former couple's multimillion-dollar divorce gives Diandra Douglas the right to share in proceeds from spinoffs and other projects related to work Michael Douglas did while they were married.
That, her camp says, should include director Oliver Stone's "Wall Street" follow-up, in which Michael Douglas reprises and updates his Oscar-winning role as Gordon Gekko, the take-no-prisoners financier whose declaration that "greed is good" became either a slogan or an epithet for the 1980s, depending on one's perspective.
But Michael Douglas' lawyer says his ex is misinterpreting the agreement, and it doesn't apply to the "Wall Street" sequel. It wasn't on the horizon when the two split, and he didn't then have so much as a guarantee that he'd be in a sequel if one were ever made, said his lawyer, Marilyn B. Chinitz.

AFI Festival Guest Artistic Director
David Lynch
AFI Fest, the film festival backed by the American Film Institute, on Tuesday named David Lynch as its first ever guest artistic director for its November event, returning the Oscar-nominated filmmaker to his movie roots.
Lynch, who enjoys a loyal cult following from films that include "Blue Velvet" and "Mulholland Drive," studied filmmaking at the American Film Institute and his career received a big break when AFI helped in getting his "Eraserhead" made and screened.
As the festival's guest artistic director, Lynch will choose a group of movies that have inspired him throughout his career, and he has created the event's poster which shows a clay figure of a person hovering in the air over Los Angeles.
Lynch, who as a young man was an art student, said this past summer he has spent much of his time painting, and in recent years he has been working on a documentary about Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

TBS Show Still Unnamed
Conan
t's been three months since Conan O'Brien announced his new TBS late-night show, set to launch this fall, and his fans are starting to wonder when the carrot-topped host will finally reveal the show's name. Will it be "Conan Tonight"? "Late Tonight with Conan O'Brien"? Just plain "Conan"?
Titles are valuable trademarks, of course, and Coco's pick will have to be vetted so it doesn't create a "likelihood of confusion" with another mark. Given his fame, the show's name probably will include some variation on "Conan" or "Conan O'Brien." That makes sense, given that his other two shows, "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien," also used his name in the title.
But both of those trademarked titles are owned by his last employer, NBC, which didn't part with O'Brien on the friendliest of terms. Would NBC try to stop him from using his own name in the title of a competing show? It can't. His reps included language in his settlement agreement with NBC to allow him to use his own name in the title of another show (though the "Tonight Show" network probably wouldn't be pleased if O'Brien followed the lead of his TBS colleague George Lopez ("Lopez Tonight") and named the show "Conan Tonight").
Case closed, right? Not quite. Let's say O'Brien wants to call his show "Conan," which TBS's "Conan is coming this November" promos seem to suggest is a distinct possibility. Simple, straightforward, it's how everyone will refer to the show anyway ("Did you see Will Ferrell take his shirt off on Conan last night?").
Just one problem: A quick search of the Patent and Trademark Office website reveals O'Brien doesn't own the trademark on "Conan." Despite his 17 years on television hosting NBC shows with "Conan O'Brien" in the title, use of the "Conan" mark for "entertainment" purposes is owned by a European company called Conan Properties International, which for decades has used the "Conan" mark in connection with the Conan the Barbarian films.

Court Revives Defamation Lawsuit
ABC Network
A federal appeals court on Tuesday revived a defamation lawsuit against Walt Disney Co's ABC Network and its former news correspondent, John Stossel, finding some claims to be potentially valid.
The case, brought by television evangelist Dr. Frederick Price, had been dismissed by a trial court judge. But the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals reinstated the suit, finding that Price may be able to prove that his words were taken sufficiently out of context to be false.
An attorney for Price said ABC must produce editor notes and footage which can shed light on whether the network intentionally broadcast false statements.
Stossel has a show on the Fox Business Network. The case will go back to the trial court for further proceedings.

Can't Appeal
Wyclef Jean
A ruling by Haiti's electoral council that disqualified hip-hop star Wyclef Jean from running for the presidency is final and cannot be appealed, a council lawyer said on Tuesday.
The Haitian-born and U.S.-based singer-songwriter said on Sunday he would appeal against the provisional electoral council's decision on Friday which rejected his candidacy for the November 28 election in the poorest state in the Americas.
Council officials said Jean, who left his homeland with his family at the age of 9 to live in the United States, did not meet residency requirements.
Jean initially accepted the ruling and asked supporters to do the same. He has since launched a barrage of accusations via Twitter, Facebook and statements to U.S. media against the council, calling it corrupt and politically motivated.

George Michael
It was a slow-motion car crash - a handy metaphor for George Michael's career.
The multimillion-selling singer was warned Tuesday that he may face jail time after driving his car into a London photo shop while under the influence of drugs.
Michael was mobbed by several dozen photographers Tuesday as he arrived at London's Highbury Corner Magistrates Court, where he admitted driving under the influence of drugs and possession of cannabis.
He was charged after plowing his Range Rover into a branch of Snappy Snaps in Hampstead, north London, in the wee hours of July 4. The dent in the wall is still visible, and someone has added one word of graffiti: Wham.

Paris Hilton
A man has been arrested at Paris Hilton's Los Angeles home after the socialite said he tried to break into her house while holding two big knives.
Police Officer Gregory Baek says the man was arrested about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday but his name hasn't been released.
Hilton said on her Twitter page: "So Scary, just got woken up to a guy trying to break into my house holding 2 big knifes. Cops are here arresting him."
Hilton posted a photo on Twitter of police arresting the man.

Accused Of Sham Marriage
Fernanda Romero
A Mexican-born actress and her musician husband lied about their marriage to immigration officials so she could stay in the U.S., a federal prosecutor told prospective jurors Tuesday.
In his opening statement, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney James Left showed a picture of Fernanda Romero and Kent Ross on their wedding day but said the appearance was deceptive.
Romero, a singer, actress and model who has attained moderate fame in her homeland, and Ross, a musician and manager of a pizza delivery business, have each pleaded not guilty to charges of marriage fraud and making false statements.
The government claims Ross was paid $5,000 to marry Romero so she could obtain permanent residency, an assertion defense attorneys deny.

Jury Awards $7.3 Million
"Man from U.N.C.L.E."
A Los Angeles jury has awarded $7.3 million to producer Anchor Bay Entertainment from a woman who was accused of selling rights to the classic TV series "Man from U.N.C.L.E." that she didn't own.
Lindsay Dunlap and her Ember Entertainment were on trial for fraud and breaching a 2005 contract with Anchor Bay, the DVD distribution arm of Starz Media. Dunlap allegedly approached Anchor Bay claiming to have rights to the hit 1964-68 series, which was originally produced by MGM but was later acquired by Warner Bros. TV (a film version is in the works at Warners).
Dunlap was able to produce "U.N.C.L.E." masters and footage for DVD extras so Anchor Bay gave her $625,000 ($500,000 for masters and $125,000 for the extras). But when Anchor Bay moved forward to create a DVD release of the classic espionage drama, Warner Bros. sent a cease-and-desist letter claiming it owned the rights. Eventually, Anchor Bay targeted Dunlap and a lawsuit was filed in October 2007. A two-week jury trial in Los Angeles Superior Court resulted in a $7.3 million verdict entered on Friday.
"Anchor Bay Entertainment is very pleased with the jury's verdict," Starz Media in-house attorney Bryan Duran said in a statement. "We were glad the jury was able to see through Dunlap's blatant fraud, holding the wrongdoer responsible for her brazen and reprehensible conduct.
