Blackadder
Sorry I wasn't able to keep up lately.
But I did want to drop a few lines about the last show in series 3 of
Blackadder.
In someways this typifies the series, Blackadder meets another
famous person and cracks historical jokes. This week the person is
Wellington, who beat Napoleon at Waterloo. This of course leads to many
soiled boot jokes. The best part of the show is when the Prince and
Blackadder change places and Wellington decides to teach the uppity
manservant a lesson.
The best thing I can say though is that's its better
than watching faux news (but then most things are).
I would like to inform
everyone that BBC america is running the classic Faulty Towers at 2:00 pm
eastern followed by Are You Being Served. Both shows are fun to watch even
after all these years. I just wish they would move them up to around 7:00
pm.
Next up is series 4 set in WWI. It might be a bit like watching the evening
news to some.
On another note I would like to say that my home state of West Virginia has
taken a lot in this war. We had the first hero in Jessica Lynch and now the
poster child for abuse in Lyndde England. We have Bob Byrd, standing alone,
hands shaking with age and rage, in a desperate fight against tyranny.
We had our own sex scandal when the governor had to disclose an affair. But
the worst thing we have had to endure is the visits from King George. We
are a strong people here in our mountains but there is only so much we can
take. Ya'll take him for awhile, we keep smelling dead skunk when he comes.

Lara Flynn Boyle
Another supporter of tax cuts for the wealthy. Actress Lara Flynn Boyle was quoted in the May 31 issue of US Magazine as saying, "I'm 100 percent for Bush. I want my president to be like my agent: not afraid of people, but wants my best interest."
Boyle, 34, admitted that, "I'm Irish Catholic, so a Democrat by blood," but apparently Irish-Catholic John Kerry does not serve her best interest. A Bush spokesman says the campaign would welcome her help: "If she's amenable, obviously we would try to find something interesting and useful for her to do."
Maybe she could serve as the pole for the flag Bush-Cheney will be waving.

The Wall Street Poet
Ahmad We Hardly Knew You
It appears that Ahmad Chalabi hasn't been a good friend to the United States after all. What a surprise.
Ahmad We Hardly Knew You
To the neocon contingent
That surrounds our President,
You appeared the brave Iraqi
That democracy had sent.
You proclaimed with just a little help
Your country could be free,
"No big deal," you assured us,
"And who'll rule then? Why not me?"
Richie Perle you wisely lathered
With your staged Uriah Heep,
Wolfie found your views instructive
"Gosh, he muttered, "this guy's deep."
When your sleazy past was mentioned
And the State Department groaned,
"That's all past and best forgotten"
Neocons loudly intoned.
Now you've burned us, naughty Ahmad,
And to all it's crystal clear,
The one int'rest you've been serving
Wasn't ours, but yours, dear, dear.
All that intel that you fed us
Wasn't off - it was plain quackers.
You'll be paying a comeuppance -
But not, I fear, your backers.

Last Night
A little cooler & a bit overcast, but still quite nice.
Talked with dear old Dad tonight. Now that it's finally warm enough to plant his tomatoes, there's been rain daily.
Thought twice before telling him mine are flowering.

"All Danes consider him to be nearly Danish," the organizers said in a statement Monday.
Danes and descendants of emigrants have celebrated the U.S. Independence Day with barbecues, square dancing and country music outside Rebild, a village 155 miles northwest of Copenhagen, since 1912.

Richard Simmons
Richard Simmons was facing a court date after allegedly smacking a strapping 255-pound ex-con who made fun of Simmons' exercise videos.
But the judicial showdown was scrapped when a misdemeanor assault charge against the diminutive diet guru was dropped last Friday by a Phoenix judge, according to Municipal Court records published on The Smoking Gun Website.
Simmons, real first name Milton, got off easy after his victim, Chris Farney, filed a "misdemeanor compromise" that stated "full satisfaction" had been received for the injury inflicted.
No word whether that "full satisfaction" included a cash payout to Farney.

Lawyer Quits Minelli-Gest Case
Raoul Felder
Famed celebrity lawyer Raoul Felder has resigned as attorney for music producer David Gest in his bitter divorce battle with Liza Minnelli, saying he often had trouble getting his client on the telephone.
Felder said among his reasons for quitting the case were his busy practice, the six-hour time difference between New York and Hawaii, making communication with Gest difficult, and the fact that Gest was often unavailable "because he's sick a lot."

James Miller, 34, was shot dead in the Rafah refugee camp last May while working on a documentary about how violence in the occupied territories affects Palestinian children.
Witnesses have described how Miller was shot by an Israeli soldier at night even though he was waving a white flag and a wearing a vest identifying him as a journalist.
Miller was an Emmy award-winning filmmaker, renowned for his haunting images from the world's war zones, including Afghanistan, Chechnya, Kosovo and Sierra Leone.

Weeping Statues
Several statues of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary in an Australian hall have apparently begun weeping and bleeding rose oil, prompting the Catholic Church to launch an investigation, a church official say.
Hundreds of people have flocked to a Vietnamese community hall near St Mary's Church in the Brisbane suburb of Inala after news spread that several statues, crucifixes, tablecloths and a set of prayer beads were oozing rose-scented oil.
The objects, which reportedly began bleeding and weeping a week ago, have been placed behind glass in the hall until investigators can examine them.

Maya, a chimpanzee at Jerusalem's Biblical Zoo, holds her twin babies born two days ago in Jerusalem May 24, 2004. Israeli zookeepers suspected some monkey business only after Maya, a 24-year-old chimpanzee, suddenly gave birth to twins despite an apparent lack of virile mates. The happy event at Jerusalem's Biblical Zoo caught everyone by surprise: nobody had noticed Maya was pregnant and Og and Gremlin, the only adult males among 11 chimps at the facility, were sterilized years ago, a zoo official said Tuesday.
