Returning For 3rd Season on MTV
`The Osbournes'
Get ready for a third season of family dysfunction, messy pets and four-letter words.
"The Osbournes" will return for 20 new episodes on MTV early next year, the network announced Tuesday. Filming at the family's Beverly Hills mansion will resume this fall.
"It's been one hell of a journey these past few years," patriarch Ozzy Osbourne told the Television Critics Association summer gathering. "This whole MTV thing has been an incredible adventure. We didn't want the adventure to end so soon."
"The Osbournes" is MTV's biggest-ever hit, although the ratings have slipped since its debut. The network says the second season is averaging more than 3 million viewers.
"If you thought we wouldn't re-sign the Osbournes for another season, you're crazy," said Van Toffler, MTV president.
Since the unscripted reality show began, viewers have seen matriarch Sharon Osbourne undergo cancer treatments and 17-year-old son Jack recently emerged from a stint in rehab.
"Drugs are everywhere. We are not winning the war on drugs," said Osbourne, garbed in a black T-shirt and brown sweat pants and wearing multiple gold chains and bracelets.
The elder Osbourne, nearly incoherent from years of substance abuse, concedes the high-profile show likely contributed to Jack's problems.
"I suppose it didn't help matters he was going to clubs and parties," Ozzy said, adding that he credits his son for seeking out help on his own.
"If you were 17, would you have gone to your folks and said, 'Mom, Dad, I have a drugs and alcohol problem?' I know I wouldn't," he said. "It was very courageous of him. He's my hero."
Meanwhile, Aimee Osbourne has finally joined the entertainment fray.
The soft-spoken oldest daughter who declined to be part of her family's weekly show will make her television acting debut in the MTV movie "Wuthering Heights," which airs Sept. 4.
It's an adaptation of the classic novel by Emily Bronte about doomed and tragic love, but updated for the MTV audience with an emphasis on music. Osbourne studied acting in London.
"I don't have huge intentions to be some big actress," she said. "I was casually asked. It was a great experience and I'm glad I did it."
For the past 18 months, Osbourne has been writing and recording her debut album, something her 18-year-old sister Kelly already did. Aimee has no regrets about not joining her bickering siblings Jack and Kelly on MTV.
"I wasn't 100 percent comfortable with it. I was 17, I wasn't very confident, I was shy, it was just a huge risk for me to take as well as my family," she said. "That to me was really intimidating and scary."

Cites Parenting Skills
Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne blames his parenting skills for his son Jack's addiction.
Osbourne tells MTV News that he and wife Sharon believe the mistake they made with Jack is that they never set any boundaries.
He says the couple never gave their kids a curfew and they just let them be free. He admits he and Sharon are still learning how to be parents.
Jack recently spent time in a Los Angeles-area hospital for addiction to the painkiller OxyContin. Ozzy says he tried to keep the dialogue open between him and Jack, but Jack never showed his feelings or gave any indication of his problem.
The 17-year-old Jack returned home June 18 after two months of treatment for alcohol and drug abuse. He entered a Pasadena, Calif., hospital after an epiphany he had while partying with pals.
"I took myself out of the picture for a second and I looked around at every single person in the room — at who they were, how old they were and what they had going on in their lives," Osbourne recently told MTV News. "A lot of them were near 30, unemployed, living off their parents. There were heroin addicts; there were the world's biggest couch potatoes. And it was like, I don't want to be like that. I don't want my life to be controlled by a drug."
Osbourne, who co-stars with his family on the MTV reality series "The Osbournes," said he discussed the problem with his mother, Sharon, while he was high on OxyContin and other drugs.
"I was really loaded and I just sat on my mom's bed and I just said, 'I am going to go pack my bags ... I'm ready to go, I want to go, I need to go.'"

Explains Rehab Decision
Jack Osbourne
Jack Osbourne took a close look at his friends and realized he didn't want to turn out like them — and that's when he checked himself into rehab.
The 17-year-old son of rocker Ozzy Osbourne returned home June 18 after two months of treatment for alcohol and drug abuse. He entered a Pasadena, Calif., hospital after an epiphany he had while partying with pals.
"I took myself out of the picture for a second and I looked around at every single person in the room — at who they were, how old they were and what they had going on in their lives," Osbourne told MTV News. "A lot of them were near 30, unemployed, living off their parents. There were heroin addicts; there were the world's biggest couch potatoes. And it was like, I don't want to be like that. "I was really loaded and I just sat on my mom's bed and I just said, 'I am going to go pack my bags ... I'm ready to go, I want to go, I need to go.'"
The entire Osbourne interview is scheduled to air on MTV at 11 p.m. Tuesday. It also will be available at MTVNews.com.

Discusses Son's Addiction
Sharon Osbourne
Sharon Osbourne said she blamed herself for her son's alcohol and marijuana abuse.
Jack Osbourne, the 17-year-old son of Sharon and heavy metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne, returned home after two months in rehab on June 18. He entered a Pasadena, Calif., hospital on April 23, saying he "got carried away with drugs and alcohol."
"The first thing I did was put blame on myself — and in a way I always will," Sharon Osbourne, 50, told Us Weekly magazine for its July 14 issue. "It's a natural reaction of a mother to think, 'What could I have done differently? What could I have done wrong?' I thought I was a cutting-edge mom, and I didn't even know what was happening."
She also told the magazine that her colon cancer, diagnosed last July, is in remission.
"Oh, I'm fine. I'm an old battle-ax," she said. "I still have to go to checkups, but I am fine."
The family, which is the subject of the MTV reality series "The Osbournes," also includes daughters Kelly and Aimee.

Ozzy
The price of fame today is a lot of unwelcome baggage.
Case in point: Ozzy Osbourne is planning to sue Sheron Lutz, who claims
her 6-year-old son (whom she calls "Ozzy Jr.") is the son of the famous
TV dad and metal rocker. Lutz says the child was born after she had a
1996 fling with Osbourne and points to the boy's speech impediment
(which she calls similar to Ozzy's) as proof Osbourne is the father.
Ozzy's rep says it is all ridiculous and the woman--who Osbourne insists
he has never met--is simply taking advantage of the singer's fame. On
top of that, Osbourne says he underwent a vasectomy 17 years ago and
only is the father of the five biological children and two adopted kids
he clearly claims.
As for that ''speech impediment'' claim, Osbourne's rep bluntly told the
New York Daily News that Ozzy's slurred speech has nothing whatsoever to
do with genetics, but rather the Black Sabbath legend's years of
''life-style'' issues stemming from his heavy drug use.

Wishes Prince William Happy Birthday
Ozzy Osbourne
Prince William, who turns 21 on Saturday, got birthday greetings from shock rocker Ozzy Osbourne.
Osbourne, whose chaotic family life is the subject of an MTV reality series, invited the prince to come stay at his Beverly Hills mansion.
"I've been told that you want to come and live in America. You're more than welcome to come and live in my house," Osbourne told a TV special celebrating William's birthday. Excerpts from Friday's show were released in advance by broadcaster ITV.
"My daughter would be thrilled. My wife would. I would. And the dogs would!" the 54-year-old rocker said.
A British newspaper reported last month that William, who is second in line to the throne, was considering moving to New York when he completes his university studies in 2005.
British-born Osbourne, the former lead singer of heavy metal wailers Black Sabbath, performed for the royal family as part of a Buckingham Palace concert marking Queen Elizabeth II's golden jubilee last June.
Osbourne said he thought the royals had appreciated his performance.
"I'm doing `Paranoid' and I'm looking at the Royal Box and they're all head-banging! I was kind of shocked but pleasantly surprised how normal they are," he said.
His birthday advice to William: "Have as much fun as you can, play Black Sabbath on record and have a blast."

New Episodes To Air
'The Osbournes'
School's out, but "The Osbournes" are back in session.
Ten new episodes of the MTV reality series will air throughout the summer, starting at 10:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday.
The cable music channel said Tuesday that the shows will follow Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly and Jack Osbourne, and their various pets and friends, at their Los Angeles home and on the road.
The episodes were shot before Jack, the heavy metal star's 17-year-old son, entered rehab in late April for alcohol and marijuana abuse. Jack Osbourne, a part-time talent scout for Epic records, said at the time, "I got caught up in my new lifestyle and got carried away with drugs and alcohol."
Ozzy Osbourne said his son's newfound clean living has inspired him to give sobriety another try. He told People magazine for its June 16 issue that after decades of struggling with substance abuse, he hasn't touched any alcohol or marijuana in more than a month, and he's running about five miles a day.
"Jack and I are racing to be the first one to 100 days sober," Osbourne told the magazine.
"The Osbournes" won an Emmy last year for best reality series.

Team Up For British Tour
Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne
Heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne will team up on stage for the first time with daughter Kelly later this year, when he marks his career resurrection with his first British gigs in eight years, his Web Site said on Friday.
Decades after fronting the band Black Sabbath, Ozzy has won cult following on both sides of the Atlantic with his family -- wife Sharon, son Jack and daughter Kelly -- whose strange antics and foul language form the hit MTV reality show "The Osbournes."
The show's popularity helped tearaway 18-year-old Kelly win her own record deal and release the album "Shut Up."
"I couldn't be happier about doing my own dates in the UK and having Kelly on the bill with me," Ozzy said on the Web Site, www.ozzynet.com. "I decided that this would be a great opportunity to bring my full stage show over to rock the UK."
The Osbourne duo will be joined by U.S. band Godsmack and Finland's H.I.M. for the gigs on September 5 in London and on September 7 in Osbourne's home town of Birmingham.

No word yet what record label Ozzy Osbourne and daughter Kelly will sign with now that they've split with Sony Records. Ozzy had been with Sony for 23 years. Kelly was signed in 2002.
Sharon, Ozzy's wife and manager says they're leaving in search of what she calls "fresh ideas." But it's not like Ozzy and Kelly will just be hanging out this summer. Ozzy is preparing for a Canadian tour in June and for his summer Ozzfest concerts. This year's Ozzfest will feature several recording artists, including Korn, Marilyn Manson and Cradle of Faith.
Meanwhile, Kelly starts a European tour with Robbie Williams this summer. The teenager's debut album, "Shut Up," features the title track as well as her remake of Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach." Also, the family's reality TV series on MTV, "The Osbournes," starts its third season on June 19.

Leave Sony Music
Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne is leaving Sony Music after nearly 23 years, citing boredom with the partnership and the departure of record executive Tommy Mottola. Ozzy's wife, Sharon Osbourne also separated their daughter, Kelly Osbourne, from the label. Sharon told People magazine, "It's an opportunity to start fresh."
The former Black Sabbath vocalist and wife Sharon worked really hard to get signed in the late '70s when heavy metal and hard rock were out of fashion. Sony took a chance and released Osbourne's first solo record, Blizzard Of Ozz, on Sony subsidiary Jet in 1980.
There is some talk that Ozzy and Kelly might wind up on the new record label venture being started by Mottola, but a publicist couldn't be reached for comment at press time.

Checked Into Rehab
Jack Osbourne
Heavy metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne's 17-year-old son, Jack, has checked into a Los Angeles-area rehabilitation center for treatment of drug and alcohol abuse, the family's spokeswoman said on Tuesday.
It was not disclosed exactly how the teenage co-star of MTV's reality hit "The Osbournes" landed in rehab, but Ozzy Osbourne has confronted his son about his drinking and drug use on the show and has acknowledged catching Jack with marijuana on several occasions.
According to family publicist Lisa Vega, Jack entered the residential detox and rehab facility last week after confiding in both parents, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, that he needed help.
"Not very many 17-year-olds have the wherewithal to realize that they have a problem, nor do they have the relationship with their parents that they can go to their parents and say they have a problem, and that is what occurred here," Vega told Reuters. "Sharon and Ozzy are very supportive of his decision and are very proud of him that he has the gumption to make a change."
The family went public after the syndicated TV show "Entertainment Tonight" broke the story Monday night, reporting that the teen MTV star, clad in a white patient smock, had been seen at the rehab center with his parents in what an eyewitness called "a very emotional moment" for the family.
Vega appealed to the media to maintain some modicum of respect for the very public family's privacy. "He (Jack) is trying to get his life together ... and he's not being given a chance to do that in private."
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are themselves no strangers to substance abuse, having both acknowledged excessive alcohol consumption in the past. Ozzy also has admitted to a previous cocaine addiction as well as to dabbling in heroin and other drugs over the years.
Ozzy has said he swore off drugs and booze in the early 1990s, though he admitted falling off the wagon last year when Sharon, the family's manager and matriarch, was diagnosed with cancer. Her illness is now in remission.
"The Osbournes" is slated to return for a third season in June with 10 new episodes produced earlier this year. Soon after its debut in the spring of 2002, the fly-on-the-wall show became MTV's biggest hit, earned an Emmy Award and turned the raucous, foul-mouthed family into overnight pop culture stars.
Jack's 18-year-old sister, Kelly, has sought to parlay her newfound fame into a recording career, while her brother has worked as a talent scout for Epic Records. He also had become a frequent denizen of the Los Angeles party and nightclub scene.
MTV has not revealed plans for the show beyond its upcoming third season, but a syndicated talk show hosted by Sharon Osbourne is slated to premiere in September.

Talent Agent Hits Back
Osbourne Brawl
A Hollywood talent agent, accused of socking Sharon Osbourne on the chin, hit back on Wednesday with her own version of a catfight in a posh Los Angeles restaurant that has sent jaws dropping in Tinseltown.
Osbourne, 50, paraded her black-and-blue chin on television this week, claiming that Renee Tab had "viciously attacked" her while she was eating out with her family at the Koi sushi restaurant last week.
The two women have been feuding over a diamond necklace that Tab won at a New Year's Eve party thrown by the Osbournes, who have become household names by starring in their own, foul-mouthed, hit TV reality show.
"I honestly thought my jaw was broken ... I've got a bruise on my chin. It hurts. My ears hurt. My neck hurts. My teeth have to be redone," Osbourne told the syndicated TV show "Celebrity Justice."
Tab, who works for top agency International Creative Management, retorted on Wednesday that Osbourne spat at her after "terrorizing and harassing" her for three months before the April 10 restaurant incident.
"It is Mrs. Osbourne who viciously, verbally and physically attacked and spat upon Renee Tab and her sister," said a statement issued by Tab's lawyer.
The statement threatened legal action against Osbourne both over the attack and "her defamatory statements" since the New Year spat over the diamond necklace.
"In the past three months, Sharon Osbourne has harassed, threatened, terrorized and made vulgar ethnic slurs ... against Renee Tab," the statement said.
Police said each of the women had filed complaints of battery against the other over the restaurant brawl. The reports have been forwarded to the Los Angeles City Attorney's office, which is considering whether to press charges against one or both women that carry a maximum 12 month's jail sentence.
The two women have been at each other's throats since the New Year's Eve party hosted by the Osbournes, where Tab won a diamond necklace valued at $15,000 in a raffle.
Sharon Osbourne has publicly called for Tab to return the necklace, saying she won it unfairly because she gate-crashed the party at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Tab reportedly went to the party as the date of a guest invited by the Osbourne's teenage son, Jack.

L.A. Police Probe Alleged Fight
Sharon Osbourne
Police say they are investigating an alleged fight between reality-TV star Sharon Osbourne and a Hollywood agent.
Osbourne, rocker husband Ozzy and their son, Jack, were dining at Koi Japanese restaurant when the alleged fracas occurred Thursday evening, police Sgt. John Pasquariello said Friday. The other woman allegedly involved was Renee Tab of the talent agency ICM.
Sharon Osbourne "started with spitting on her and calling her names," said Tab's attorney, Nejila K. Brent.
Osbourne spokeswoman Lisa Vega issued a statement saying her client had been "viciously assaulted" and was treated at a hospital for injuries. In an interview, she refused to characterize the injuries.
If any charges are filed, they will be "on the low end of the misdemeanor scale," Pasquariello said.
Tab and Osbourne have been at odds since January over whether the agent belonged at an Osbourne party where she won the door prize, a $15,000 necklace.
MTV's reality sitcom "The Osbournes" made the family worldwide stars, but ratings tumbled in its recent second season.

Sharon Osbourne
Sharon Osbourne, the manager wife of rock wild man Ozzy Osbourne, appears to be free of the cancer she discovered last year.
"Ozzy says Sharon has completed her treatment and has no signs of cancer," a spokesman for the rocker told Reuters on Wednesday.
Sharon Osbourne has undergone a series of intense treatments since being diagnosed with colon cancer.
It was primarily through her efforts that the everyday antics of the Osbourne clan became the subject of a hit reality TV show.
The family matriarch subsequently said she regretted letting cameras into their glitzy Beverly Hills home.
The mad-cap behavior of Ozzy, Sharon and teenagers Kelly and Jack won the family the tag "the first family of dysfunction" and their expletive-filled conversations became cult viewing for many.
Sharon Osbourne said the strain of living in a fish bowl had become hard as the family struggled to cope with her battle against the cancer, a crisis which she said drove Ozzy to drink.

Kelly Osbourne
Kelly Osbourne has launched an attack on the hand that feeds her, MTV.
Kelly, daughter of Ozzy Osbourne, is reportedly incensed that the music channel refused to play the video for her new song, "Come Dig Me Out."
The star of MTV's most-popular show, "The Osbournes," complained that the channel only plays a limited number of music videos a week.
And she claimed that MTV only cares about commercially successful acts.
Kelly told the website Antimusic.com: "MTV makes me sick to my stomach. When you're hot, you're hot. When you're not, you're not.
"MTV only plays 35 videos a week. They used to be all about breaking new artists.
"Now, if you're not in a rap group, if you're not talking about 'I f****** the cutest girl in school' or if you're not singing about skateboarding, you can't get played," she said.
Kelly's album "Shut Up" has sold only 134,000 copies in the US since its release in November last year.
She added that she believes she may never be accepted as a credible musical artist.
"I honestly don't care if I sell any albums," she said. "People don't see me as an artist, they see me as a television star. And I don't care.
"I don't care if people take me seriously as an artist."

Kelly Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne is more than just a father to his daughter, Kelly — he's also an adviser of sorts.
According to her, he gives advice on living life in the public eye. "He (said) the stage can be the loneliest place in the world," she told AP Radio. She didn't elaborate on its meaning.
The only thing more obscure than his words are the places where he offers such pearls of wisdom.
"We have sit-down talks ... in the most random places. We went in the bathroom, and I sat on the floor for three hours while he was talking to me. By the end of it, I was falling asleep."
Osbourne says her dad means well, but he need not worry. For her, "being famous ... is just a small part of my life."
She says adjusting to fame is a weird experience. "To this day, I walk in restaurants and wonder why everyone is staring at me — then I go 'Oh,'" she said. "It's weird, but I'm used to it."
That's no surprise, with their hit MTV series "The Osbournes" turning the clan into household names. One benefit of such exposure has been the positive boost of her father's image.
"My whole life, people have always said stuff like my Dad is this and that — he's evil, satanic and bites the heads off animals," Osbourne said. "When people get to see that he's a kind, loving person who deserves everything he has and has worked (hard) his entire life, he gets the gratification he deserves."

Justin Timberlake and Elizabeth Taylor were the guests of honor at a benefit hosted by Elton John and Sharon Osbourne at the Osbourne's home in Beverly Hills, California on Wednesday (March 19). The evening benefited John's AIDS foundation and Osbourne's own colon cancer charity.
Despite the gala affair, the evening's conversation was dominated by the subject of war with Iraq. "We all discussed whether to move forward with this event tonight," Osbourne told the guests, according to the New York Daily News. "We decided to continue because, war or no war, we are all fighting the war against AIDS and cancer. At the same time, we should all say a big prayer for the American and British men and women who are risking their lives."
Osbourne struggled to mingle with guests, as she had just undergone a chemotherapy treatment and was very tired. One attendee in particular was thrilled to see her up and around. "Sharon, I f--king adore you," said the party guest. "My drag name is Sharon. So you get two Sharons for the price of one."
Among the celebs in the crowd were Tony Bennett, Sylvester Stallone, and his wife Jennifer Flavin.

Gets New Bassist
Ozzy Osbourne
Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has joined Ozzy Osbourne's band. Newsted will hit the stage with Ozzy this summer on the Ozzfest tour.
In a weird twist, Ozzy and Metallica have essentially traded bass players because the musician Newsted replaces left Ozzy's band to fill an empty spot in Metallica. Robert Trujillo played his last show with Ozzy on Friday.
At Friday's farewell bash for Trujillo at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, Sharon Osbourne had to be rushed to the hospital. Her spokeswoman tells The New York Post that Sharon was overcome by heat exhaustion and felt faint while watching Ozzy's show.
Sharon was in the hospital for about 20 minutes before she was released. "It was nothing serious," the spokeswoman says.
While Osbourne's band is adding people, the Ozzfest has lost an act.
TRUSTcompany was slated to play the main stage, but instead it will return to the studio to record its second album. No replacement has yet been announced.
The rest of the main stage lineup now features Korn, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed and Chevelle.
Meanwhile, Osbourne has confirmed an eight-date Canadian tour before Ozzfest, beginning June 1 in Vancouver and wrapping up June 16 in Quebec City, Quebec.

Sharon Osbourne was rushed by ambulance to a Las Vegas hospital Friday night after she fell ill backstage at an Ozzy Osbourne concert. Sharon, who has undergone chemotherapy treatments after being diagnosed with colon cancer last June, was watching Ozzy perform at the Hard Rock Hotel when she was overcome by heat exhaustion, confirmed her spokeswoman, Lisa Vega. "While she was watching Ozzy's show, it got very hot in the club," Vega said. "She did not collapse. She felt faint. Out of concern for Sharon, an ambulance was called. She was taken to the hospital, but it was nothing serious. We were there for about 20 minutes." After she was released, Sharon and Ozzy had dinner in their hotel suite. But Jack Osbourne and sister Aimee - who's not on the family's hit reality show - partied until dawn at the Real World suite at the Palms hotel at the farewell bash for Ozzy's longtime bass player, Robert Trujillo, who's leaving to join Metallica.

The Osbournes - The DVD
Ratings for "The Osbournes" have been slipping, but fans have already bought more than 500,000 copies of the DVD set, featuring the first season of the MTV series. The average price is about $24.99.
About 80 percent of the roughly $12.5 million spent so far goes to Miramax - which placed a winning rights bid of $7 million - and distributor Buena Vista, with the Osbournes taking their piece out of that portion, according to estimates by trade publication Video Business.
Although nowhere near the record 1.6 million units sold of the first season of "The Simpsons" on DVD, the rapid pace of sales could easily move "The Osbournes" into the elite echelon of TV series that have topped a million in sales.

Kelly Osbourne is leaving the nest.
The petulant daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne is on the verge of moving out of her parents Beverly Hills home, but she's not going very far - about five blocks down the road.
The 19-year-old has reportedly bought a multi-million dollar house in her parents' posh neighborhood and plans to move in next month.
Sources close to the deal say that Osbourne has yet to sign the final papers on the house.
But Kelly told Heat magazine that Sharon has been emotional since she told her she was leaving the nest.
"She's been a blithering idiot ever since I got the new place," Kelly said. "I bought it a couple of weeks ago and it's mine in ten days."
Kelly said the house may need some renovation before she moves in though. "I don't think I'll be moving in for a month because I have to put new bathrooms in. I'm not s--g in someone else's toilet."
An Osbourne spokeswoman could not be reached for comment yesterday on the house deal.
Kelly's move signals the end of era for the Osbourne family. There is just one more season left of their popular reality comedy "The Osbournes." The third season is slated to debut this June.

Rock's Richest in 2002
Ozzy Osbourne's #10
"I don't care too much for money," Paul McCartney once sang, but that hasn't kept him from leading Rolling Stone magazine's list of the pop world's richest artists.
The former Beatle, who by some tallies was rock's first billionaire, raked in $72 million in 2002 largely from his first tour in nine years, according to the U.S. magazine's second annual "Rock's 50 Richest" list, to be published on March 14.
Touring was the bread and butter of most of the top entries on the list in a year in which record sales plummeted. The runner-up was The Rolling Stones, who brought in $44 million, also on the back of a successful sold-out tour, their first since 1997.
No. 3-ranked Dave Matthews Band derived hardly any money from record sales, with almost all of its $31.3 million coming from touring. The band ranked No. 4 on last year's list, although it earned $43.4 million.
Eminem, whose "The Eminem Show" was the best selling album of 2002, ranked No. 5, and was one of the few artists on the top 10 to earn more from recording than touring.
Bruce Springsteen ranked No. 7, also benefiting from a successful tour behind his Grammy-award winning "The Rising." Mariah Carey, who received $30 million last year to end her contract with EMI Group Plc, ranked No. 8 on the list.
Ozzy Osbourne came in at No. 10 on the strength of the MTV series "The Osbournes," the highest rated show in the U.S. cable television station's history.
Being dead does not keep artists off the list. Elvis Presley, whose songs were licensed for the Disney film "Lilo & Stitch," ranked No. 12. RCA Records also issued a compilation of his No. 1 hits.
Britain's Robbie Williams, who inked a whopping $125-million, multi-album deal last year with EMI, ranked No. 13 on the list. He picked up nearly $20 million from the deal last year.

Aimee Osbourne has yet to appear on "The Osbournes" - and won't be on the show any time soon, says family matriarch Sharon Osbourne.
"Everybody had a decision to make, and [Aimee's] decision was that she keep her life private and she didn't want to be in the spotlight at this time," Sharon Osbourne said on Monday's "Larry King Live."
"She is pursuing a singing career . . . but at this time she didn't want to be part of our show. So I can only respect her for that."
Yes, host Larry King said, but what happens when Aimee - the oldest child of Ozzy and Sharon - comes over to the family's Beverly Hills mansion?
"The cameras don't shoot," Sharon said. "It is awkward, but you know, it's our daughter so that's it."
Sharon also said she's not sure the show will continue beyond its third season, which kicks off in June on MTV.
"Well, we have another season in the can . . . which I think airs in June," she said.
"I honestly don't know if there will be another season. Let's say in the next year I can't foresee it, but maybe after that. Right now I don't know."
"Next year can you foresee doing the show again?" King asked.
"No," Sharon replied.
She also took some shots at Bill Cosby, who last year lambasted the Osbournes for their on-camera behavior and liberal use of profanity and called them a "sad" family.
"Well, I call him a hypocrite," Sharon said of Cosby. "Because he pretends to be squeaky clean and he's not.
"And his reputation precedes him," she said. "I mean, I don't know . . . but people in TV and film have told me otherwise.
"I mean, I don't know, I don't know him," she said. "I must say, however, that when I got ill . . . he sent me a very nice letter, so, you know, I don't want to knock him too much."
Sharon, who was diagnosed with colon cancer last June, has undergone chemotherapy treatments and told King she's "doing great. I'm really, really good."
She's scheduled to host a talk show next fall distributed by Telepictures, an arm of AOL Time Warner.

Reflects on Image
Kelly Osbourne
While Kelly Osbourne never played to the cameras during the taping of the hit MTV series, "The Osbournes," she does admit to playing dress-up.
"I'd put makeup on and put together snazzy outfits (first thing in the morning)," she told AP Radio. But after a while, she couldn't maintain the facade. "I (was) too tired, and I couldn't be bothered with it. Most of the time you see me, I have on yesterday's makeup and some pajamas."
If Osbourne had kept up her routine, maybe she would have liked the dolls created in her likeness a little bit more. "Everything with my face on it is so gross. All those Kelly Osbourne dolls look like Ken dolls in drag. They're the worst!"
While she may not think much of her own image, Osbourne says the show did wonders in terms of how people see her father, heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne.
"People would actually look down on (him) and not see him as a talented, loving person. They have all these preconceptions of him as a madman who bites the heads off animals. But when they see him, they (realize) he's a soft, loving person."
The first season of "The Osbournes" is being released on DVD on Tuesday.

Ozzfest Unveiling
Osbournes
Headbangers of the world will unite once again this summer at Ozzfest, the annual road show of hard rock bands organized by America's first couple of reality TV, the Osbournes.
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and son Jack opened their Beverly Hills house to journalists on Tuesday to announce the lineup for the eighth annual outing of Ozzfest.
Dressed in his best pair of tracksuit pants and a black T-shirt, a typically befuddled Ozzy slurred his way through the news conference while a svelte Sharon, as usual, took charge of proceedings, firing off insults at her guests and husband.
Ozzy Osbourne, frontman for English heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath, will headline the event, which kicks off on June 28 in San Antonio. Osbourne is hardly the most popular visitor to the Texan city since urinating on a part of the historic Alamo during a drunken stupor in 1982.
"I won't be allowed back into f' town," Osbourne, 54, mumbled upon hearing of the itinerary, apparently for the first time.
He will share the main stage with rock bands Korn, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed and Chevelle. A second stage will feature such up-and-coming acts as Cradle of Filth and Trust Co.
Ozzfest is one of the biggest attractions on the American concert calendar. Last year's outing, headlined by Osbourne, System of a Down and Rob Zombie, grossed $26.3 million, ranking No. 17 among all tours. That tour also coincided with the diagnosis of Sharon Osbourne's colon cancer, although she is now in remission.
Osbourne, holding court in the house's game room, said he has been working out five times a week to get into shape for the tour. As he was answering a question about his legendary alcohol and pill intake, the family's publicist cut him short.
He said a Black Sabbath reunion was not on the cards, although he and England-based guitarist Tony Iommi have been collaborating long-distance on songwriting. This time, Sharon interrupted him telling a journalist, "Cut the Black Sabbath s---, OK?"
Ozzfest will compete for fans' money in a difficult economic climate with other road shows such as Lollapalooza and Warped, which cater to different musical tastes.
"It's sweaty, it's physical, it's ugly," Manson said of Ozzfest, by way of a compliment.
But seriously, Sharon Osbourne said she would keep prices at last year's levels, which started at about $40, and a limited number of $10 tickets would also be sold at each venue.
The Osbournes hope to take Ozzfest to Britain, Germany, Scandinavia and the Netherlands in September, assuming a possible war with Iraq will not frighten groups from flying to Europe.
Ozzy and family rocketed to mainstream prominence last year as stars of the hugely successful MTV reality series "The Osbournes," which depicted their eccentric lifestyle. The show is now in its second season, although ratings have slid.

Pulls UK Gig on Terror Fears
Kelly Osbourne
Rock tearaway Kelly Osbourne has pulled out of performing at one of Britain's biggest music awards, fearing a terror attack on London while she is there, a spokeswoman said on Thursday.
The spiky-haired singer, who was due to belt out her latest hit "Shut Up" at the NME awards on Thursday, canceled the show after pressure from her showbiz parents Sharon and Ozzy.
"Sharon and Ozzy are concerned about their children's safety and they don't want them flying about while the world is on high alert," said a UK spokeswoman.
The United States and Britain have bolstered security amid intelligence-led fears that al Qaeda may launch a terror attack on the western allies.
Britain has deployed troops to London's Heathrow airport and reconnaissance aircraft to the skies, while the U.S. has surrounded its defense headquarters at the Pentagon with anti-aircraft missiles.
The teenage rebel "freaked" when she saw images of British troops patrolling Heathrow, according to the Web Site of the show's organizer NME (www.nme.com).
"The Osbournes were in New York on September 11 (2001)," said Kelly's spokeswoman. "That had a big effect on them."
NME.com added that British showbiz promoters were expecting a slew of cancellations from other U.S.-based stars, including Pink, Avril Lavigne and Justin Timberlake.

The Osbournes
Are TV Fans Sick of the Osbournes?
There's some bleepin' bad news for the Osbourne family: Television viewers may be getting sick of them.
Ratings for MTV's hit reality sitcom have been tumbling in its second season, from a high of 6.6 million viewers for its Nov. 26 premiere, to 3.5 million on Jan. 14. This week's episode climbed back to 3.8 million.
Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly and Jack Osbourne were also hosts of last week's American Music Awards, which suffered its worst ratings ever.
Less than a year after "The Osbournes" began airing and the family became ubiquitous, are the Osbournes burning out?
"The people came in, they tried it and they just haven't gotten back on it," Harry Keeshan, senior vice president of broadcasting for the ad buying firm PHD, said on Thursday. "I don't think a lot of these people will return."
The show's tone is different this second season because the family's life is different. Instead of showing the eccentric home life of a marginal celebrity and his family, the latest episodes depict them coping with sudden fame, as well as Sharon's bout with cancer.
Brian Graden, chief programming executive at MTV, said he's not worried about the numbers. The first season started slow and built into a phenomenon while the second season started fast and faded, roughly even in viewers.
"The same number of eyeballs are seeing this season on both a premiere and repeat basis," Graden said. "If you're in my shoes, you're not complaining."
Although the show may not be as popular as it was last spring, MTV says it's still doing well among the 12-to-34-year-old viewership. Executives also privately say MTV's business model relies on quick sensations that burn out fast.
Keeshan also points out that his clients that bought advertising time on "The Osbournes" are still happy.
After the current 10-episode season ends, another set of shows are planned for this summer. After that, who knows?
MTV may be ready to move on to something new. Graden is touting a new series about life makeovers, "Made," that premiered strongly last week.
The Osbournes' heavily bleeped host stint on the American Music Awards was not only unpopular with viewers, it reportedly caused one celebrity, "Everybody Loves Raymond" actress Patricia Heaton, to walk out of the theater in disgust.
Don't blame the family for its ratings, suggested Jim Paratore, head of Telepictures Productions.
"The American Music Awards' problems are more indicative of where music is today than who the host of the show is," he said.
Paratore has reasons to hope that's true. Telepictures has signed Sharon Osbourne to be host of a new syndicated talk show set to premiere in the fall. He doubts viewers will be tired of her by the time the talk show premieres.
Telepictures' research shows that viewers feel warmly toward Sharon and appreciates what she's been through with a tumultuous marriage and substance abuse, he said.
"She has lived just about every topic that these shows cover," he said.
Stations representing about two-thirds of the country's population have agreed to air her talk show starting this fall, he said. By comparison, a new talk show by Ellen DeGeneres, also created by Telepictures, already has 78 percent clearance.

The Agent & The Necklace
Sharon Osbourne
The uninvited guest who walked off with the $40,000 diamond necklace raffled off at the Osbournes' New Year's Eve event is being pressured to return it. Sharon Osbourne caused a stink when
Renee Tab, an ICM agent, won the raffle at the star-studded renewal of Sharon and Ozzy's wedding vows at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Sharon filed a police report claiming Tab was a crasher who
had rigged the raffle by "stealing" a load of tickets. She also issued a press release to shame Tab into returning the jewelry. Sharon, who is battling colon cancer, was so upset she had to
be hospitalized for three days. Tab, who went to the party as the date of an invited guest, claimed she won the necklace fair and square. But after several days of intense negotiations that
included her boss, ICM head Jeff Berg, Tab is said to be close to returning the prize, which will be auctioned off for a cancer charity. As part of the deal, Sharon will issue an apology to Tab for calling her a thief.

Battles Talent Agent
Sharon Osbourne
The weird world of "The Osbournes" has gotten weirder, with Ozzy Osbourne's wife battling with a Hollywood talent agent over whether the agent belonged at a party where she won the door prize, a $15,000 necklace.
The pricey jewelry was raffled off by Sharon Osbourne and her rocker husband during a New Year's Eve party at which the couple renewed their wedding vows. The party was filmed as part of the hit MTV reality series "The Osbournes," which stars the Osbourne family.
The winner was Renee Tab of the powerful Hollywood talent agency ICM. But within days, the Osbournes reported that Tab had wrongly claimed the necklace. Sharon Osbourne said the agent wasn't an invited guest.
Police Lt. Gary Gilmond confirmed Wednesday that the Osbournes have filed a theft report.
"Sharon is disappointed that the situation has not been resolved," a spokeswoman for the couple told the syndicated TV show "Celebrity Justice."
ICM said Tab won the necklace fair and square.
"Accordingly, ICM believes the Osbournes owe both Ms. Tab and ICM an apology," the agency said.

Guests at the Oz-fest included Robbie Williams, Marilyn Manson, Chris Rock, Jon Lovitz, Britt Ekland and rock groupie Pamela Des Barres, reports The Post's Mary Huhn. Sharon's father, Don Arden, walked her down the aisle. Kelly Osbourne shut up for a second to be flower girl. Son Jack spoke and even shy daughter Amy was there. The Village People performed. Justin Timberlake was the only celebrity to bring a bodyguard. The Osbournes' anniversary is actually July 4, but the ceremony was delayed due to Sharon's battle with colon cancer.

Renewed Vows on New Year's Eve
Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne renewed their wedding vows during a New Year's Eve party at the Beverly Hills Hotel that included hundreds of guests.
The couple got married on July 4, 1982, but delayed their 20th anniversary celebration because of Sharon's battle with colon cancer. They announced their plans in November.
Sharon wore a cream-colored wedding gown and diamond tiara as she was escorted down the aisle by her father, Entertainment Tonight said. The couple's youngest daughter Kelly served as flower girl.
Music was provided by the 1970s group "Village People."
Guests included singer Justin Timberlake and Chris Rock, Entertainment Tonight reported.
"The Osbournes," a light-hearted look at the heavy metal singer, his family and their pets, is scheduled for a second season on MTV.

Ozzy Osbourne
He may be the king of metal, but Ozzy Osbourne prefers a quieter, gentler brand of music at home. "The Beatles are my favorite thing," Osbourne told mtv.com. "A lot

albums. Early [David] Bowie albums like 'Ziggy Stardust.' " Sadly, Osbourne notes: "My heroes are dying off now. George Harrison recently died, which was tragic . . . I'm
listening to Paul McCartney's new album right now."

'The Osbournes'
In one of the first scenes in Tuesday's episode of "The Osbournes," you could see that Sharon Osbourne had been crying.
No one else in the scene - her son Jack, daughter Kelly and Melinda the nanny - alluded to the tear stains on Sharon's face.
But there they were, plain as day.
The tears were kind of like Sharon's battle with colon cancer this season - ever-present, though not always mentioned.
Her illness - revealed last summer in the period between the end of the sensational first season of "The Osbournes" and before filming began on the second season of 10 episodes - has made the second season of "The Osbournes" a much different show than the first.
Four episodes (out of 10) have aired so far this season. (Due to the holidays, the show is off for the next two weeks, resuming Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 10:30 p.m. on MTV).
Ratings, though still strong for MTV by any measure, are off from last season, when the series averaged 5.3 million viewers per week. The second-season began Nov. 26 with 6.6 million viewers, but the last three episodes, have drawn 4.2 million, 4.4 million and 4.6 million viewers respectively.
In some ways, the show remains the same as it ever was - only more so.
Chubby Jack still wanders about the mansion with little to do, but this season, he seems even more aimless (if that's humanly possible).
Sister Kelly can still be a stubborn, spoiled, sullen brat, but this season, she's even more obnoxious and self-centered (if you can believe it) - due in part to her newfound career as a pop singer.
Ozzy still stammers and looks befuddled, but this season, he's even more incomprehensible and shaky. Earlier this season, his seeming deterioration was explained by his return to drinking as a means of coping with Sharon's illness.
And there lies the chief difference between this season and last. Sharon, who was once so clearly in control of the Osbourne home and family business, appears physically weakened and emotionally brittle after the rigors of cancer therapy (Tuesday's episode, when she seemed to be in her weakest state yet this season, was filmed in mid-September).
Without Sharon as an anchor, the household - never an oasis of calm on even its best days - seems on the verge of spinning completely out of control.
It's especially cruel, given Sharon's listless condition, that Kelly was seen on Tuesday disobeying her and blatantly lying about the status of her relationship with her new boyfriend, a Utah rocker known for throwing up on stage.
While the members of the household are playing more to the cameras this time around than they did when they were first being trailed through their home by production crews last year, the second season of "The Osbournes" has been far from disappointing.
If anything, the series - with Sharon's illness, Ozzy's alcoholism, and the increasingly horrid behavior of Jack and Kelly - is even more brutally honest than ever and remains a likely candidate to top many critics' lists of the top TV shows of 2002.

Kelly Osbourne may appear tough as nails on TV, but behind the scenes she's a wuss. Ozzy's high-maintainance daughter pulled out of a concert in Australia when she learned that her arch-rival Natalie Imbruglia would be there. Music fans were looking

Square Up for Xmas TV Duel
Sharon & Queen Elizabeth
The Queen's traditional Christmas TV message faces competition from an unlikely source this year with rocker Ozzy Osbourne's wife planning a rival broadcast.
"Two mighty matriarchs will confront each other across the nation's turkeys when Sharon Osbourne goes head to head with the Queen to deliver the alternative Christmas message on Channel 4," the broadcaster said in a statement on Wednesday.
Channel 4 said Osbourne's message, which like the Queen's will be broadcast at 3 p.m. on Christmas Day, was aimed at viewers "who crave more challenging TV fare with their festive pud."
It gave no hint as to the theme of the message, which will be recorded later in December, but said Osbourne shared with the monarch a love of dogs and a reputation for hard work.
The Osbournes shot to stardom this year with their award-winning reality TV show of life in their unconventional family.
As well as being Ozzy's manager, Sharon Osbourne, 50, has been given her own talk show in the United States.

Opens Up About New Album
Kelly Osbourne
Kelly Osbourne never much cared for school and that's why her new album is called "Shut Up."
Osbourne, who dropped out of high school, just as both her parents did, said the title song is about her feelings toward her teachers in school. She admits
she's really bossy and doesn't like being told what to do.
Osbourne said people shouldn't expect anything from her album. She said she did it for herself and if people like it, that's great, and if they don't, "oh well."

British Teeth
Ozzy Osbourne and former Spice Girl Melanie C. have been voted by their countrymen as having the very worst teeth in the United Kingdom. In a survey commissioned by the British makers of a new electric toothbrush, Mel C. (left) and Ozzy topped such dental disasters as Tony Blair and designer Vivienne Westwood as having the nastiest gnashers in all of Great Britain. As for Yankees, the Brits chose George W. Bush and former first daughter Chelsea Clinton as the Americans who should never smile publicly.
