NRA Convention in Pittsburgh
I found it is interesting that both the ABC affiliate (WTAE - Channel 4) and NBC affiliate (WPXI - Channel 11) here in Pittsburgh used African-American reporters in covering the NRA Convention. As we all know the make-up of the NRA is mostly suburban-rural geographically and white male in populace. Mostly a Nascar dad conglomeration. Was it just a coincidence or maybe it was an intentional misguidance to show people in a swing state for November that the far right NRA is racially diverse. Lets face it, a majority of NRA members would rather see an African-American at the other end of a gun then have any social or direct contact with them.

Thanks, deee!
I remember way back when WPXI was WIIC, and 'Chiller Theater' with the fabulous 'Chilly Billy' - AKA: Bill Cardille got me through lots of Saturday nights babysitting.
Can also remember a bout of 'homesickness' that was cured by a viewing of 'Night Of The Living Dead', with Bill Cardille playing a reporter.
And, how much hope George Romero gave kids from that neck of the backwoods.

50 Worst Songs
Blender Magazine is publishing its list of the 50 worst songs in its May issue. The songs were selected for "crap-tastic melodies," were poorly performed, or just didn't make any sense to the folks at the magazine.
Starship's "We Built This City," from 1985 topped the list. "The truly horrible sound of a band taking the corporate dollar while sneering at those who take the corporate dollar," the magazine said of the tune.
Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart" was second, followed by Wang Chung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight." "If this song was a party, you'd lock yourself in a bathroom and cry," quipped Blender.
Limp Bizkit's "Rollin" was Number 4, and Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby," was five.
Rounding out the top ten worst songs ever are Huey Lewis and the News with "The Heart of Rock and Roll," "Don't Worry, Be Happy," by Bobby McFerrin, Eddie Murphy's "Party All the Time," "American Life," by Madonna and "Ebony and Ivory," the duet by Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney.

Raps U.S. Policy in Iraq
Jermaine Jackson
Pop star Michael Jackson's brother, Jermaine, in the Gulf to promote understanding between Muslims and his fellow Americans, said Tuesday that Muslims are "the new Negroes in America."
Jermaine, a convert to Islam and dressed in white Arab garb, has been speaking about Islam and U.S. "adventures" in Iraq to enthusiastic audiences at Koranic centers and universities in the Gulf Arab state of Bahrain.
He disapproved of Muslim extremism, which has been on the rise in the wake of the U.S. occupation of Iraq last year.
"I understand their feelings but do not approve of their methods. Islam is a religion of peace. They are wrong," he said.

Cigarette Withdrawal
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt said on Tuesday he reluctantly quit smoking for months of intense physical training to prepare for his role as Greek hero Achilles in the film "Troy" but admitted he was now glad he kicked the habit.
In an interview with the German magazine "Cinema" before the May release of the film in the United States and Germany, Pitt said he spent many unpleasant months working out with a fitness trainer to build up muscles to play the legendary warrior.
"I had to quit smoking," Pitt said when asked about the hardest part of the getting ready for the film about the Trojan war. "I'm now happy about it because these things were killing me. But at first I was really missing my cigarettes.
"The withdrawal was so hard that I was ready to kill -- which was actually helpful for the role I was playing," he said.

Goes to U.N. to Fight Hunger
Lauren Bush
Resident Bush's fashion model niece went to work for the United Nations on Tuesday to urge young Americans to do more to stop hunger around the world.
Lauren Bush, 19, was named honorary spokeswoman for a new U.N. World Food Program project aimed at students to organize anti-hunger campaigns, fundraising events and letter-writing appeals to elected officials, corporate and civic leaders.
"I feel like if we can change the mindset of the next generation, that there will be solutions to this problem. ... That's kind of my goal," said Bush, who last week made a three-day visit to Guatemala to learn about hunger there.
Bush, the daughter of the resident's brother Neil ('Silverado'), said she hoped to visit Africa, where the need to feed people is greatest.

Shakes Up Management At ABC
Disney
ABC prime time chiefs Susan Lyne and Lloyd Braun have left the struggling television network, owner Walt Disney Co. said on Tuesday, as it announced a long-anticipated shake-up that elevates two of its cable executives to head the company's media operations.
ABC Cable Networks Group President Anne Sweeney and ESPN sports cable network President George Bodenheimer were named co-chairs of a newly created media networks unit, that includes ESPN, ABC and Disney's cable operations, the company said.
No. 4 broadcaster ABC has been struggling with its prime time schedule for years and a management shake-up had been expected for weeks.

Not Likely to Play on TV
'The Passion of the Christ'
Despite being the year's biggest box-office blockbuster so far, "The Passion of the Christ" seems unlikely to find a home on the four biggest broadcast networks.
Mel Gibson's Icon Productions has been shopping the movie to TV. Only ABC has confirmed turning it down, but executives speaking on condition of anonymity said it was doubtful for CBS, NBC and Fox, too.
Besides the film's violent content, a television network that airs "The Passion" would also inherit controversy about it. Some Jewish organizations objected to the movie for fear it would cause bad blood between Christians and Jews.
The movie has also reportedly been shopped to pay cable networks, where content would not be much of an issue. HBO would not comment, but executives there have privately said the network has a full plate of movie premieres already scheduled for the next year.
Showtime has passed on the movie, a network spokesman said.

Sought French Citizenship
Pablo Picasso
Spanish artist Pablo Picasso applied for French citizenship just before German troops invaded France in 1940, but was turned down because police saw him as a Communist sympathizer, a new exhibition shows.
Picasso's brief letter of application, featuring his instantly recognizable signature, is the highlight of an exhibition of 40 years of police surveillance of the celebrated artist, which opened at the Paris Police Museum Tuesday.
The exhibition shows authorities kept tabs on Picasso from his arrival in Paris in 1901, starting with a domestic intelligence report which said he was staying with a suspected anarchist and concluded that he must share the same politics.
Picasso, renowned for his fierce pride, never forgave the slight and although he never again set foot in Spain proclaimed he would die Spanish. The artist, who joined the Communist Party after the liberation of France in 1945, died in 1973 without seeing democracy restored in Spain.
