George Made the U.S. One Fucked Mess in 3 Years
For you slimy-assed Republicans who wanted to protect their wealth or "bring back morality" to the White House ( for chrissakes, the White House is just a building, just like the one I'm in, but Bubba never got a hummer under this desk I'm at, as far as I know..), I would like to shed some light on maybe how we got in this mess. I'll do this in numerical fashion as there would be way too many paragraphs ( I'd be here for days with the substories of this main story ).
1. Bunnypants was arrested in 1976 for DUI, paid a fine, and had his license yanked 30 days.
2. Georgie joined the Texas Air National Guard and apparently went AWOL. No records of him being there seem to exist. That's a felony. He refused to take a drug test or would not answer questions RE: past drug use in subsequent interviews.
3. Bunnypants graduated with a stellar C average from Yale Law School.
4. Bunnypants was a stellar cheerleader at Yale Law School.
5. He failed at his first run for the U.S. Congress, so he decided to go into the oil business, Harken Energy (his old man's company which still needs to be investigated). Harken went bankrupt soon after Bunnypants dumped his stock and Bunny then bought the Texas Rangers in a sweet deal that used land through use of taxpayer money. Smell a little funny?
6. With the help of George Sr., and friends in the oil biz (Kenneth Lay, to name just one of them), Bunny was bought the position of Governor of Texas. Whoo, boy, what hard work'll get ya.
7. To favor his newly bought governorship of Texas, he changed the Texas pollution laws for the petro-chemical conglomerates making Texas the most polluted state in the Union. During Bunnypants tenure, Houston replaced Los Angeles as the most smog-ridden city in the U.S.
8. Georgie cut taxes for the rich and bankrupted the Texas treasury to the tune of billion of dollars in borrow money.
9. Bunnypants executed more death-row men on his watch than any other governor in the State of Texas.
10. Now the biggie!! He stole the United States Election for the first time in history!! With the help of brother Jeb, and his daddy's appointees to the the U.S. Supreme Court, he became President by stealing 500,000 votes.
You know the rest of the story, how he lied about WMD's, how he is a disgraceful man who sickens me, went to war on a whim, good god, time for a new man with real character.

Mr. Hawk's Weekly Preview/Review
'The Young Ones'
This week the boys move into their new digs, the old house being destroyed when a plane mysteriously crashed into it. Hmmm, this was from 1982 Condi, still say no one could have imagined 9/11? As usual with college students there is an arguement over who gets what room. Neil gets the bedroom that Vyvyan just set fire to. Mike gets the room with Buddy Holley hanging upside down in it.
And that brings up the problem of how to pay the rent. Well Mike's dreams of wealth come crashing down as Buddy crashes head first thru the floor. Neil discovers the genii in the lamp which Vyv promptly kills. Vyv decides to cut the rent by tossing the plumbing out the window. Mike solves everything by converting Rick's bedroom into a rollerdisco. And then (Dah Dum) Vyv strikes oil in the basement.
Well, the lads decide to sleep on it and what happens the next morning? Mike and Vyv become Bush and Cheney. Rick and Neil are assigned to toil in the basement and bide their time. The comes the revolution. With a free concert no less.
On a local note, The city of Charleston is trying to make up for the huge mistake of arresting the 2 protestors on the 4th. The city council issued a public apology and the mayor is giving them t-shirts. Fortunately they haven't sued yet. In fact, they've decided to move here. They said they'd just as soon be unemployed in West Virginia as unemployed in Texas. I think that's a great new slogan for us.

Red Venus Love Army
Red Venus Love Army - An Otter's eye view
On a recent trip to the Pacific Northwest, I was
fortunate enough to spend some time with RVLA band
members Michele (Sax) and Mark Kaeder (Recording
genius/guitarist). Their home was a hive of musical
activity; up and coming bands making demos, more
established players visiting for help with the
nerdishly fine details of recording, musicians hanging
out on every available piece of furniture while
scarfing up all the snacks in the kitchen. It was
chaotic and fun.
Portland and Seattle based Red Venus Love Army were
drawn together by Casey Scott as a line up of virtuoso
performers. The tightness of the band and amazingly
high quality of their recordings are easily overlooked
when you see them perform because they are so
original. Don't get worried that the word "original"
is often used to refer to unpleasant experiments with
weird tuning of instruments or the punk concept that
talent and tune are not essential elements of music.
RVLA has both talent and tune in abundance but they
also hew away from the beaten paths of any type of
popular music. After hearing a full set by the band I
could not pigeon hole them in any given genre. They
borrow and blend aspects of jazz, big band, rock, ska
and even classical while all the time keeping a sense
of humor.
Their lyrics are clever and occasionally obscure but
the texture of Casey Scott's voice trumps any need to
hear the words. She has been to the big dance before;
recording contract, amazing but uneven first album,
idiot manager trying to make her into the latest
someone she wasn't, bitterness at being mismarketed.
All the standard crap of the big bad corporate world.
Don't ask her about it, it's not a popular topic. In
Ms.Scott's new music career, she has kept control of
the focus. Keyboard player Nathan Grigg's production
values along with Mark Kaeder's mixer board ability
have freed her to show off her superb vocal gymnastics
and varied shadings of voice.
While the gorgeous vocals are the first flash of
brilliance that you'll notice, this isn't a small
band. Twelve players might tempt a less disciplined
crew to form walls of sound. The Army never overpower
a listener, instead phasing in and out the various
components to produce a kaleidoscope of harmonies that
will surprise and delight. There are no egos on
display here, only an obvious pleasure in doing what
they do best.
Every member of this band is a serious musician; Mark
Kaeder demonstrates enviable stamina producing the
intricate guitar part of the RVLA sound. It certainly
isn't the slash'n'bash of most six string playing.
Justin McCarthy and Diamonlegs Robinson are well up to
the challenge of the constantly evolving rhythms on
drums and bass. The RVLA horns are played by Michele
Kaeder and Matt Dunkle. As if more proof was needed
for the array of styles this band combines, Michele
adds marching bands to the list of their influences.
She is the gorgeous and petite lady with a really big
sax in their photos. Yum. What was I saying? Oh yes,
the strings section bring skills from classical and
Celtic music as well as rock in the form of cello
player Handsome Sam Ross and violinist Jeffrey
Reynolds. The vocals are rounded out with the backing
of Laura Lou Pape-McCarthy, Billy Magic and George
Kaplan.
This is a band that makes melodious and none
derivative music. And they do it with a smile and
wink. I'll flick two lighters for an encore from these
folk. Go and see them in concert soon. If there is any
justice in this world (hah!) you will someday be able
to use that old line, "I saw them back before they
were hit the charts."
Click here for an excellent online demo.

A bit cooler and the breeze is returning.
Visited another middle school to put the kid's name on their waiting list.
The school that the district says he should attend is in an urban war zone, and while the faculty of this school is beyond reproach, the neighborhood is too dangerous for anyone's child.
When the president of the PTA at the old grade school (who has lived in this neighborhood her whole life) recommends home-schooling over this particular middle school, I pay attention.

Dedicates 'About to End' to Bush
Bonnie Raitt
Winding up her summer tour across Europe, Bonnie Raitt drew thunderous applause at the Stockholm Jazz Festival for dedicating a classic to resident George Bush.
"We're gonna sing this for George Bush because he's out of here, people!" Raitt crowed Tuesday night before she launched into the opening licks of "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)," a cover that was featured on her 1979 album, "The Glow."
Raitt's comments resulted in a round of applause and even whistles from among the estimated 3,000 concertgoers at the Swedish capital's annual jazz event held on the banks of the downtown Skeppsholmen island.
Swedes are skeptical of Bush, and the Scandinavian country refused to support his efforts in the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Will Continue Praising Moore
Linda Ronstadt
Linda Ronstadt said she'll continue to praise Michael Moore and his film "Fahrenheit 9/11" on stage despite an angry reaction at a Las Vegas concert.
"This is an election year," she told the Los Angeles Times Tuesday. "I want people to get their head up out of their mashed potatoes and learn something about the issues and go and vote. ... I'm not telling them how to vote. I'm saying, get information about the issues."
Ronstadt, 58, told the Times her remarks were "modest," adding: "They didn't throw me out."
"I didn't even know there was trouble," she said. "Those places operate like little city-states. They are all-powerful. And I had already said I never want to come back."

Call it the burning Bush. Ben Cohen, the co-founder of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream is on the road, towing a 12-foot-tall effigy of resident Bush with fake flames shooting out of the pants.
"In a polite society, you don't go up to a person and look at them in the face and say, 'You're a liar,'" Cohen said in a telephone interview before arriving in Spokane, the next stop on the Pants on Fire Tour.
"We think it's a lot more dignified and there's a lot more decorum to say, 'Excuse me sir, your pants are getting a little warm, don't you think?'" Cohen said.

First No. 1 Album
Jimmy Buffett
Jimmy Buffett proved he isn't "wasting away" anywhere as he topped the U.S. pop albums chart on Wednesday for the first time in his three-decade career.
The laid-back singer/songwriter's latest effort, "License to Chill" (RCA), sold 238,600 copies in its first week of release ended July 18, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Buffett first appeared on the Billboard 200 in 1974 with "Living and Dying in 3/4 Time" -- recorded for the long-gone Dunhill/ABC -- which peaked at No. 176. The artist, famed for the 1977 pop hit "Margaritaville," has done a bit better since. His previous studio set, 2002's "Far Side of the World" -- released on his own Mailboat Records label -- opened at No. 5 with 78,500 copies; it has sold 384,000 copies to date.

Buying Bankrupt Aladdin
Planet Hollywood
One of the partners buying the Aladdin hotel-casino said singer Linda Ronstadt would be welcomed back to the property after the performer was kicked out over the weekend by current management for praising filmmaker Michael Moore.
Planet Hollywood CEO Robert Earl of Orlando, Fla., said he'd like to take Moore up on the filmmaker's offer to join Ronstadt on Aladdin's stage and sing "America the Beautiful" when Earl's management team takes control of the bankrupt casino, as early as September.
"We respect artists' creativity and support their rights to express themselves," Earl said in a statement Wednesday. "We were very sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances of this past Saturday night and want to make it clear that Planet Hollywood has never, in our 13 year history, restricted any artists' right to free speech and we will continue with that policy once we take ownership."

Sue for Music Royalties
Electric Prunes
Two members of the 1960s rock band Electric Prunes sued their record label and a company that published their songs, alleging in two separate lawsuits the companies failed to pay them royalties totaling $1 million.
Bass player Mark Tulin filed the lawsuit Monday in Superior Court against Damo Productions Inc., which the lawsuit alleges recorded albums for the rock band.
Tulin and lead singer James Lowe, of Santa Ynez, also filed a separate lawsuit Monday against Newcomer Music Publishing Co., which the lawsuit alleges published the band's songs.

Sues Stern Distributor
Clear Channel
Clear Channel Communications Inc. sued the distributor of Howard Stern's radio show for more than $3 million Wednesday, claiming Stern broke their contract by violating federal indecency regulations.
The lawsuit came in response to a $10 million suit filed last month by Stern and distributor Infinity Broadcasting Corp. after Clear Channel dropped the shock jock from six markets.
Clear Channel said in its countersuit that its contract with Infinity and Stern required the show to comply with federal law and Federal Communications Commission decency requirements.

Selling Films to Pay Actor Residuals
Screen Actors Guild
The Screen Actors Guild is selling the rights to seven small films in an effort to recover more than $400,000 in residuals owed to actors such as Christopher Plummer and David Bowie.
SAG said the sales mark the first time the union has taken advantage of a clause in its contract with producers that allows SAG to foreclose on a film if royalties remain unpaid.
Producers often guarantee residual payments to actors using their films as collateral, the union said. But disputes are typically resolved using arbitration or other methods.
Among the films are "The Linguini Incident," a 1991 film featuring Rosanna Arquette and David Bowie; "Blood Money," a 1996 film with James Brolin; and "Telling Lies in America," a 1997 film with Kevin Bacon and Calista Flockhart.

Sues Over 'Frampton Bikini'
Peter Frampton
Rock star Peter Frampton is suing popular surfwear manufacturer Billabong for selling a bikini that features his face on the rear and the phrase "Baby, I love your waves."
The British-born rock star, 54, is seeking unspecified damages and an injunction to stop sales of the "Frampton Bikini" saying the phrase is "an obvious reference" to his 1975 hit record "Baby, I Love Your Way."
Frampton says the Australian-based youth apparel company is also selling a T-shirt and a surf top with his image on it. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Denies Salary Holdout
George Eads
Fired "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" actor George Eads says he wasn't staging a salary holdout when he missed work - he overslept.
He hoped what he called a "big misunderstanding" with CBS and its chief, Leslie Moonves, will be resolved by the end of the week and he will be back to work on the hit drama, Eads said Wednesday.
Eads and "CSI" co-star Jorja Fox were dumped by CBS last week after failing to show up for the start of production on the upcoming fifth season. The network said they had demanded raises beyond their contracts.

Scientists Say Research Blocked
Marijuana
The government is violating federal law by obstructing medical marijuana research, scientists contend in lawsuits seeking faster action on applications to grow the drug.
"There is an urgent need for an alternative supply of marijuana for medical research," said Lyle Craker, director of the Medicinal Plant Program at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the main force behind the lawsuits.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse, part of the Health and Human Services Department, "maintains a monopoly on research marijuana. Many researchers believe that NIDA's monopoly is an obstacle to getting needed studies done on a timely basis," Craker said in a statement.
The lawsuits, which target the Drug Enforcement Administration, HHS, NIDA and the National Institutes of Health, are being filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
