Filthy Habits
It's filthy to chew gum you found underneath a bus seat on its way from Little Ferry, New Jersey to Manhattan. It's filthy to lick toilet seats in LaGuardia Airport. It's filthy to lick toilet seats in general.
It's also filthy to categorize abuse of authority which is what is happening with the committee investigating 9-11 and who to blame for the tragedy.
The committee, although its supposed function is to find facts, we all know that will not happen. It never does with these committees. They turn into excursions of the absurdities and idiosyncracies of the personalities of all involved.
The filth on the telly this morning was Rice of the Condoleeza type will TESTIFY!! on Thursday. Does anyone want to bet how many times this woman of very high intelligence will say something to the effect of " I don't recall", "I don't remember that conversation", ad nauseum. Then the media will pounce on her background, how she was raised as a young black woman who fought her way to the top, and, gee, where do the facts of the committee wind up? Fourth page, third column blurb.
Then Bunnypant's absurdities and idosyncracies of his personality will come out. First "I don't recall", "I don't remember that conversation", ad nauseum, and then the story of how he was raised a priviledged kid will come out, how he floated his way through law school after Daddy bought his way in there, how he drove into shrubbery and got a DUI, past cocaine use, driving his father's oil biz into the ground(of which Harken Energy stocks have yet to be taken serously about how and when Smirky bailed as CEO), and other shit. No true credible facts will be the focus of this circus event. It's a shame for the families whose children are dying every day now, and for the victims and families of 9-11. God, what a waste. If politicians would truly debate facts, issues, and policies rationally, the sideshow element of the fat lady with seven toes would maybe go away.

Mr. Hawk's Review
Black Adder/BBC America
For those who were looking for Blackadder, it's been moved to Thursday
night for some reason. Must be some British thing.
I did mess up on my last review, this weeks Blackadder is the last of the
series. Watch the last 5 minutes (including after the credits)
to find out why Elizabeth was the Virgin Queen.
Personally I think I'll tape Trailer Park Boys as the premise sounds
interesting at least.
Thanks, Mr. Hawk!

Off the Air in LA, Chicago
Air America Radio
A dispute over money knocked Air America off the air in Chicago and Los Angeles and locked out of its outlets there on Wednesday, the 2-week-old liberal radio network said.
Air America, which leases radio stations in 16 cities, filed a complaint in New York State Supreme Court against the owner of the two stations, MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting Inc., demanding it be restored to the air and compensated.
"MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting's conduct in this matter has been disgraceful," Air America Chairman Evan Cohen said.
MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting's owner, Arthur Liu, could not be reached for comment.
In a telephone interview, Cohen said he purchased two months of airtime on KBLA in Santa Monica, California, before Air America's March 31 launch, but the station owner resold the time to a Spanish-language programmer.

Gets Political on Tour
Queensryche
The current political climate spurred veteran metal band Queensryche to dedicate much of its upcoming tour to material from its 1988 concept album, "Operation: Mindcrime," and its 2003 studio set, "Tribe."
"The albums were actually written in two different time periods that have a lot of similarities," singer Geoff Tate told Billboard.com. "For instance, we have this really ultra, kind of right-wing government in charge right now and the 'Mindcrime' era was this ultra right-wing Reagan era. We were at war and now we are at war again. We are in kind of the same situation again with a lot of unfinished business."
Queensryche's tour begins April 15 at Detroit's State Theater. Its lineup includes touring guitarist Mike Stone, who replaces original member Chris DeGarmo, as well as singer Pamela Moore, who played the role of Sister Mary on "Operation: Mindcrime."

Releasing Jazz Album
Willie Nelson
Willie Nelson will release a jazz album, called Nacogdoches, on April 29. Nelson recorded the songs five years ago at Encore Studios in the East Texas town of Nacogdoches.
Nelson told the Tyler Morning Telegraph, "This is a labor of love that a label probably wouldn't be willing to release."
That said, the project will only be available via the Internet at willienelson.com and at Texas Roadhouse restaurants, a chain sponsoring Nelson's current tour.

Wants Unedited 'Passion' On TV
Mel Gibson
Mel Gibson's Icon Prods. has quietly started the process of shopping for TV licensing deals for "Passion," which is the first hugely successful film to come down the pike as a true free agent for pay TV and broadcast/basic cable licensing in more than five years, since Fox scooped up the rights to George Lucas' "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace."
Industry sources say each of the Big Four broadcast networks has been pitched the movie, along with HBO, Showtime and other major cable outlets.
But sources say Icon has made it clear to prospective buyers that the film must run in its entirety and that even some of the more graphic scenes of beatings cannot be edited down. That makes it a tough sell for the broadcast networks, which would undoubtedly have a hard time lining up advertisers for the controversial film even if edits were made.

In A Pickle Over Politics
HJ Heinz Co
The HJ Heinz Co. has found itself in a sticky situation, and it's not the ketchup that's causing the mess. Blame the more-partisan-than-usual nature of this year's election, which has prompted closer scrutiny of Teresa Heinz Kerry's connection to the Pittsburgh company.
Heinz says it wants to get the facts straight. Teresa Kerry, wife of presidential contender John Kerry and heiress to the $500 million Heinz family fortune, is not involved in the company's management, said a March 22 press release sent to 50 radio and talk shows. She owns less than 4 percent of company stock.
Heinz took the step after receiving 150 calls from consumers who threatened to boycott the products or said they would buy more, depending on their politics. The brouhaha began when one of the family's charities (which Teresa Heinz chairs) gave money to Sept. 11 victims' families who criticized resident Bush for using footage of the terrorist attacks in his ads.
"[The election] is not our debate," said Jack Kennedy, a Heinz rep. "We are an equal-opportunity condiment." (Heinz has donated $17,905 to Republicans and $3,930 to Democrats so far during the 2004 election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.)

Von Teese - Manson
Shock rocker Marilyn Manson is an old softie when it comes to marriage. Us Weekly reports Manson proposed to his girlfriend, burlesque artist Dita Von Teese, on March 22.
The shocking part was that he didn't spit blood on her or put the ring in a coffin; he got down on one knee. He presented her with a seven-carat round cut diamond. A wedding is expected within a year.

Changing Location
'Debt Clock'
The world-famous National Debt Clock that hung on the side of a three-story building at 43rd Street and Sixth Avenue has been torn from its home of more than 15 years. The building, owned by the Durst Organization, is being stripped and demolished in order to make room for a high-rise.
But because the national debt is still rising, a new billboard-sized digital clock will be reappearing in a few weeks one block north at 1133 Sixth Ave. "It'll be going back up in a month," said Douglas Durst, president of the Durst Organization, which looks after the clock.
Durst's late father, real-estate magnate Seymour Durst, installed the clock in 1989 when the debt was $2.7 trillion. When the clock returns in May, the debt will be more than $7 trillion.
In fact, the debt is now rising so quickly that the last seven numbers of the new clock will be moving too quickly to be read, Durst said.

Selling Gems to Aid Old Circus Animals
Kim Basinger
Actress Kim Basinger will auction off her 3.7-carat diamond engagement ring from ex-husband Alec Baldwin and other jewelry next week to raise money for retired circus animals, Christie's said on Wednesday.
Christie's estimated that the 11 pieces of jewelry on offer could raise $100,000 for The Performing Animal Welfare Society, a California group that runs a refuge for abused, retired and surplus elephants, lions, bears and other captive wildlife.
The sale also includes an $8,000 to $10,000 multi-gem necklace with a butterfly motif that was another gift from Baldwin, whose nine-year marriage to Basinger ended in 2002.

Lil' Kim, 28, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, was among four people, including one of her managers, named in an indictment unsealed on Wednesday in Manhattan federal court.
She is charged with one count of conspiracy, three counts of perjury, three counts of making false statements and one count of obstruction. The obstruction count carries a possible maximum prison term of 10 years and all the other charges carry possible five-year terms.

Lawsuit Dismissed
Whitney Houston
A judge has dismissed a $100 million breach of contract lawsuit filed against Whitney Houston by an entertainment company that her late father had founded.
Superior Court Judge Francine Schott found that Kevin Skinner, who claims to be the current owner of John Houston Entertainment, had refused to provide information to the pop diva's attorney. Schott dismissed the lawsuit April 5, but her ruling wasn't made public until Tuesday.

Plug Set To Be Pulled
Berlin Love Parade
Berlin looks set to pull the plug on the Love Parade after organizers said on Wednesday they had failed to secure funding for the summer festival that used to attract over a million gyrating techno fans.
The Parade, which became a symbol for Berlin's hipness during the 1990s, has waned in recent years, narrowly avoiding financial collapse and drawing smaller crowds as techno music has lost its trendsetting appeal and entered mainstream culture.
The Parade first took place in 1989, four months before the fall of the Berlin Wall when DJ "Dr Motte" staged what he called a "House Music Demonstration" in West Berlin for tolerance, respect and international understanding.

Fails to Sell at Auction
'Hamlet'
To bid, or not to bid? That was the question at Christie's auction house Wednesday when a rare edition of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet," valued at well over $1 million, failed to sell. The bidding fell short of the seller's minimum.
The nearly 400-year-old book is one of 19 copies of the 1611 printing known to exist and is the only one remaining in private hands. It was owned by Mary Hyde, Viscountess Eccles, a renowned New Jersey book collector and English literature scholar best known for her extensive Samuel Johnson collection, now at the Houghton Library at Harvard University.
Christie's had estimated its worth between $1.5 and $2 million. But bidding began at $900,000 and stalled at $1.2 million, which was shy of the seller's confidential reserve, or minimum price.

Courtney Love
Add financial woes to the long list of worries bedeviling rock star Courtney Love.
The trouble-prone musician claims in the upcoming issue of Blender magazine that she has been swindled out of $40 million, while a former business associate says she is in debt to the tune of at least $4 million.
"I'm covered with loser dust," she was quoted as telling Blender, whose May issue featuring the Love cover story will hit newsstands on April 20.
