Bi-Partisanship Sometimes Works...Not!!!!
I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where we have a governor who had the class to write a very kind letter to a slime-ball piece of hate whose ideological ideals are 180 degrees from what my governor, Bill Richardson, espouses. And who might that be? My dope-fiend nemesis, no one other than the fascist Rush Limbaugh.
You wanna hear some bi-partisan class? Richardson wrote in his letter to the radio talk show host : "I am solidly behind you on the issue of federal government or prosecutors having access to your medical records. It is a massive intrusion into your, and every citizen's privacy. Hopefully you will fend off these attacks."
Of course, Rush didn't have the decency to write this pure class of a man who happens to be Hispanic, and most likely a soon to be presidential contender. Limbaugh thought it befitting only to make a ten or 15 second blurb saying thanks to my governor on his ditto head loony tunes radio show, one reason might be due to the shit he has given to Richardson when Richardson was an Ambassador under the Clinton administration.
I'm not against or for drugs (just the "War on Drugs"), but due to disrespect and total disregard of human courtesy on Limbaugh's part, I hope they nail Limbaugh with every dirty tactic Attorney General John Ashcroft (of course one of Limbaugh's great people of the earth) has up his sleeves with the new Patriotic Act. I would say, hmmmmm, how ironic. By the way Rush, next time you order 1,000 oxycontins, you might not want to do it over your own cell phone, you idiot.
By the way, if any dittoheads are reading this piece, you don't get off that stuff and immediately return to work. I would bet he's as high now as he was before "voluntary re-hab". You can function quite normally if you have enough in dope your blood to not feel sick. He sure hasn't sounded too depressed or sick after people do in treatment after they get out. He's still in denial, about everything that pertains to facts, politically and physiologically.

reviews and rants
This week's Blackadder is about money or the lack thereof and what will
happen when Pat Robinson becomes your banker. Seems Blackadder borrowed a
sum of money from the churc and now they send their best collector to get
it back. When your name is the baby eating bishop of bath and wells you do
tend to be a bit extreme. Will Blackadder repay the church? One hint, where
do you think the black in blackmail came from? Next week is the last of
series 2. While it has some good laughs I really can't recomend it except
for the last 4 minutes, where we really find out why Elizabeth was the
virgin queen.
I also recomend the Cartoon Channel (check the listings) for showing Star
Wars "The Clone Wars" cartoon. The only problem I have is that they are
dribbling it out, showing 5 minutes at a time. On last Sunday they showed
episodes 1-11 back to back and you can see how it hangs together. This is
supposed to be the stop gap between Episode 2 and Episode 3 so you are
getting deep back round.
A plus is that Yoda is even released from CGI and can move like everyone
else and he kicks royal butt.
Now for the rants if Marty will allow me. WHY do we have to have directors
cuts of everything. Last weekend I put Star Trek 2 on AMC just for some
backround noise as I cleaned house. Imagine my surprise when a scene I have
heard 50 times suddenly changed. It was like an old friend developing a
tic. I can see director cuts or enhanced versions of some films but not
everything is improved.
I also sat down to watch another film and not only was it overdubbed but
the original overdubb had been replaced with a modern slang overdubb. Was
this really necessary? Why not just bleep what the FCC doesn't like. One of
the best comedies of all time is Blazing Saddles. This film was ruined in
the overdubb process. When I saw the original again after about 10 years I
laughed just as hard as the first time I saw it.
Mr. Hawk
Thanks, again, Mr. Hawk.
Any rant (or rave) of yours has a home here.
About the overdubbing - it seems to be more commonplace than one might think.
The kid has also noticed it on 'The Simpsons' - he has years 1 & 2 on dvd, and has committed them to memory. There are now reruns he won't watch.
As for 'Blazing Saddles', the only channel to watch it on is TCM - but, then, it's considered sacred text in this house.

Collects Hollywood Support
John Kerry
John Kerry collected the support of Hollywood stars including Meg Ryan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Costner and Barbra Streisand during a fund-raiser that capped a two-day swing through California.
Guests were treated to a mini-concert by James Taylor and a standup introduction by Larry David, producer of "Seinfeld" and star of the HBO series "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
David joked that Kerry should consider him to be vice president because he considers himself "a nincompoop, a chicken and a liar" who could offset resident Bush and balance the ticket. David said the only problem is that if something were to happen to Kerry, those qualities "would obviously be disastrous for anyone who was actually the president."
"You are qualified," Kerry responded, "to be a Republican."

Peabody Awards
Boston's WGBH-TV won three Peabody awards Wednesday for programs about string theory, one of the nation's most dangerous manufacturing companies and a racially motivated killing and how it mobilized the civil rights movement.
NBC News received a Peabody for a Tom Brokaw piece on the controversy surrounding the University of Michigan and its affirmative action policy, while CBS News was cited for a "60 Minutes" report on conflicts of interest and abuses of power by government and military contractors.
The Peabodys, considered among the most prestigious and selective prizes in electronic media, recognize excellence and meritorious work by radio and television stations, networks, webcasters, producing organizations and individuals.
Bill Moyers was cited for career achievement, mostly recently his series "NOW with Bill Moyers" and the documentary "Becoming American: The Chinese Experience."

The State of the News Media 2004
The State of the News Media 2004
< snip>
Lawrence Grossman, the former head of PBS and NBC News, said in a recent address at Louisiana State University:
"Commercial radio … has by now totally abandoned serious journalism, except some might argue, in a handful of big cities whose all-news radio stations typically offer little more than a 24-hour headline service. Radio network news is a relic of the past. Instead, commercial radio is flooded with syndicated talkers (talk is cheap), whose opinionated, mostly archconservative on-air personalities take strong positions on major public issues. What once was an industry dominated by locally owned and operated stations and three national radio networks is now an industry dominated by three giant corporations, each of which owns multiple stations in a number of markets, and owns and programs hundreds of radio stations throughout the nation."
Works by Tolkien, Dickens and Chaucer
Book Auction
Rare volumes of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy were the centrepiece of an extensive private book collection auctioned for a total of $270,000 US Wednesday.
The Tolkien books, including two signed second editions of the first two instalments of the trilogy and an unsigned first edition of the third part, were sold to an anonymous bidder for $3,800. They were among more than 3,000 rare books - sold by Bonham's auction house - that belonged to bachelor William Adams, who died last June, aged 84.
A collection of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales containing engravings by Eric Gill attracted the highest bid of $7,500.
A 23-volume set of Charles Dickens novels was not far behind with a bid of $7,400.

To Consider Code of Conduct
Broadcasters
Broadcasters meeting Wednesday to discuss indecency said they would consider an industry code of conduct, an idea the nation's chief telecommunications regulator suggested they should pursue.
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell said if the industry leaves it to the government to set strict standards for broadcast decency, they won't like the result.
NAB President Eddie O. Fritts Jr. said a code was mentioned by most speakers at the daylong seminar, and would be seriously considered. He said the discussion would continue at the NAB's annual meeting later this month.
The original code was dropped in 1982 under Reagan administration pressure, on both antitrust and First Amendment grounds.

Plays Beijing
Deep Purple
British rockers Deep Purple brought their heavy metal act to Beijing, fascinating an uninitiated crowd with the sonic pleasures of gothic rock amped up to ear-crunching decibels.
Chinese officialdom has long frowned upon the rock-and-roll genre, fearful that electrified songs of protests and struggle could topple a political regime.
But Deep Purple, led by 60-something Ian Gillian, showed Wednesday they don't care a lick for politics, putting on a professional show of 1970s classic rock hits for an audience never before serenaded by the likes of "Highway Star" and "Space Truckin."
A late replacement for the legendary Rolling Stones, who had booked the Worker's Gymnasium last April but cancelled because of the SARS outbreak, Deep Purple can now boast to being one of the first heavy metal bands, and the first pioneer of rock, to grace the stage in China.

Siegfried & Roy
The landmark "Siegfried & Roy" marquee on the Las Vegas Strip was being changed Wednesday, almost six months after a tiger mauled star Roy Horn and forced the show to close.
A nearly basketball court-sized image of the duo had remained on The Mirage hotel-casino sign as a gesture of respect, hotel officials said.
A new 70-by-70-foot center panel was being installed in the 200-foot sign to promote impressionist Danny Gans' show and the Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat attraction at the hotel.

Pee-Wee Herman
Paul Reubens
His fans may call him "different" or "freaky," but actor Paul Reubens, who rose to fame as kids' television show host Pee-wee Herman, wants people to know he is neither a pedophile nor a child pornographer.
In his first interview since pleading guilty earlier this month to possessing obscene material after a two-year criminal probe targeting him, Reubens told Entertainment Weekly magazine that nude photos seized from his home were "kitschy, funny stuff from the 1940s, 50s or 60s."
The Los Angeles City Attorney's Office built a case of possessing child pornography based on 170 of the 30,000 images. On March 19, Reubens pleaded guilty to the lesser misdemeanor of possessing obscene material. He paid a $100 fine and was sentenced to three years probation.
"I didn't want to spend a million dollars and put myself in the poor house," he said of his reason for reaching a plea deal.
Reubens said his instinct was to fight because he didn't believe the material was pornographic or obscene.
"Does anyone come back from this? I don't know the answer to that," he said. "but I'll be damned if I'm going to let this destroy me."

Axes Artists, 1,500 Jobs
EMI
Music giant EMI will slash its recorded-music workforce and artists by one fifth and outsource most of its CD and DVD manufacturing to reduce costs, the British company said on Wednesday.
The 1,500 job cuts and other sweeping changes at the world's third largest music company -- home to the Rolling Stones, Coldplay and Norah Jones -- come amid continued strife in the recording industry, beset by piracy and declining music sales.
Niche and under-performing artists would go in the 20 percent reduction, EMI said, but it refused to give names.

Trump Hotels Low on Luck, Cash
The Donald
Casino mogul Donald Trump may have the final word with his television apprentices, but his auditors say Trump's casino company will be in deep trouble without a cash infusion -- which would leave him with a minority holding in the company.
The warning hit the shares of Trump Hotels & Casinos Resorts, which fell more than 12 percent in Wednesday morning trading.
The ability of the casino company to continue as a "going concern" hinges on a deal that would allow Credit Suisse First Boston to infuse $400 million in exchange for majority stake in the company, according to auditors for Ernst & Young.

Southern Living said 12 of its roughly 2.4 million subscribers had contacted the company with concerns about the recipe. A corrected recipe is available on the southernliving.com Web site.

End of Hand-Drawn Cartoons
Disney
When Walt Disney Co.'s animated film "Home on the Range" debuts on Friday, it may signal the end of an era for hand-drawn cartoon features as the company that all but created the art form moves to computer images.
Disney's film studio is under pressure in its animation division, having cut back staff and ended a lucrative partnership with Pixar Animation Studios Inc., which established new computer animated movies like the $850 million global box office hit "Finding Nemo."
"Range," a comedy about a wiseacre cow voiced by Roseanne Barr who tries to save her farm, is the last hand-painted cartoon on Disney's current film slate, studio chief Dick Cook said in a recent interview. Moreover, most of the industry is moving in the direction of computer animation.
"It is where things are going," Cook told Reuters.
