Scalia-Dude

This Scalia dude is one dangerous sex Nazi.

The jerk is in fear that state laws against masturbation are no longer sustainable?!?!?!..... i'd slap him if i wasn't usin' my good hand for better purposes.

"State laws against bigamy, same-sex marriage, adult incest, prostitution, masturbation, adultery, fornication, bestiality, and obscenity are likewise sustainable only in light of Bowers' validation of laws based on moral choices. Every single one of these laws is called into question by today's decision; the Court makes no effort to cabin the scope of its decision to exclude them from its holding. See ante, at 11 (noting "an emerging awareness that liberty gives substantial protection to adult persons in deciding how to conduct their private lives in matters pertaining to sex" (emphasis added)). The impossibility of distinguishing homosexuality from other traditional "morals" offenses is precisely why Bowers rejected the rational-basis challenge.

Now, i'm dyin' to find them states with laws about masturbation that Scalia thinks their rights have been so seriously abrogated.

I don't know if you've listed this one in the past before I found BartCop, but even if you have then it deserves another mention.

The chorus has a catchy tune, an easily-memorized lyric, and is funny. OK, as political satirists go, NOFX don't match Frank Zappa, but perhaps they wanted to keep it simple enough that even President Moron himself could understand what they were getting at.

I'm just going to watch it for the 15th time tonight. :)

Thanks, Brian.

'Fish Cheer: Take 2'

With a tip of the hat to Country Joe and the Fish

Well come on all of you big strong men
"President" Shrub needs your blood again
Tryin' to finish dad's greedy plan
To secure the oil that's beneath Saddam
He'll put our surplus in to deficit
'Cause the rich they don't give sh*t

Chorus

And it's one, two, three what are we fighting for
The Bush Family Evil Empire
No you can not retire
And it's five, six, seven
Tax breaks for the rich
When good folks sit and do nuthin'
Evil is a' gonna win

Well come on Cheney you're the man
Help your friends at Hallibur-tan
Blow the pipelines in to a terrible state
So the boys can fix 'em like they did in Kuwait
You fixed the ones in Iraq too
Which you forgot to mention didn't you

Repeat Chorus

Well c'mon Colin, Condi and Don
Cover up the money mess at Enron
Distract us with a war you know we can't win
So we don't notice all of your corrup-shin
Couldn't get Kissinger to lie for you
How deep is this doggie-dooooo

In The Chaos Household

Last Night

June Gloom returned, and I was grateful. Sun didn't burn through til after lunch.

Late Friday night, Dave Bryant (sp) on KCBS in LA stated that chimpy drew so many $ in his CA visit that the democrats have to know they can't win. So, it's already been scripted?

Dennis Miller & Kelsey Grammer were prominently featured in the local news as being smirk's celebrity pals. Guess the 'kool-kids' (& uncle Karl) feel they don't need Drew anymore?

Hope to drag my sorry ass out of bed in time to make a trek to Vroman's in Pasadena for a book signing. The last time I went to Vroman's was in the very early 80's and Buckminster Fuller was the draw. At the time, I was still driving the Ford L-250 3/4 ton pick-up truck that drove me from Alaska (it still had AK plates). Talk about a raggedy piece of shit mode of transporation - anyway, it was bordering on 'terminal', and it all came down to   -   did I want to jeopardize my only way of getting around LA (and means of employment) or get another book signed by Bucky. Talk about a no-brainer.
So, the truck made it to Vroman's that day, Bucky signed the books 'Bucky' (not Buckminster) as he had in the past, and it's about freaking time I visited that store again!

Hollywood Walk O'Fame

Gilda Radner

The late "Saturday Night Live" comic Gilda Radner was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on the eve of what would have been her 57th birthday.

The event was timed to coincide with the release of "Voices for Gilda," a compilation CD that includes performances by Dan Aykroyd, Billy Crystal, Celine Dion and others. A portion of sales will benefit Gilda's Club, which provides meeting places where cancer patients can join with others for emotional support. Radner died of ovarian cancer in May 1989.

Radner was cast as a regular on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" in 1975, where her most memorable characters included Roseanne Rosannadanna, Baba Wawa, Emily Litella and Lisa Loopner.

Voice For Bush Election

Dennis Miller

A new voice has emerged in the re-election campaign of President Bush, that of Dennis Miller, who is gaining a reputation as a conservative comic by attacking Democrats with biting humor.

Miller flew on Air Force One from San Francisco to Los Angeles with the president on Friday, and later gave a stand-up routine at a Bush fund-raiser in Los Angeles.

"I spent an amazing couple of hours with Dennis Miller," Bush said during his Los Angeles speech after Miller's routine. "He keeps you on your toes."

He added: "I was also honored to meet his wife, Carolyn. Like me, he married above himself. It may not be all that hard, in his case. But I'm proud to have his help."

Miller, who was an analyst on ABC's "Monday Night Football, had an HBO comedy show and does commentary for Fox News, adds a celebrity touch to Bush's re-election campaign, much like actor Bruce Willis did in 1992 when Bush's father ran for re-election.

Lenny Kravitz has formed Roxie Records, an imprint named for his late mother, Roxie Roker, that will be distributed through Warner Bros.

He remains signed to Virgin Records as a recording artist and will release a new studio album, "Funk," in the fall, according to a spokesperson.

"Lenny and I have a long-term relationship," says Jeff Ayeroff, Warner Bros. "creative czar," as he refers to himself. Ayeroff worked with Kravitz when he was co-chairman of Virgin Records America. "Lenny and I have always talked about the next phase of his career. This is what I call his Quincy Jones phase," Ayeroff says.

Considering Concert In Cuba

Paul McCartney

Former Beatle Paul McCartney is considering holding a concert in Cuba next year, and is sending his agents to the island in July to work out the details, it was reported.

Cuban authorities, including Culture Minister Abel Prieto, have already approved the concert, according to the Juventud Rebelde newspaper, as it quoted writer Ernesto Juan Castellanos, who attended McCartney's June 1 concert in Liverpool.

McCartney traveled to Cuba with his children in January 2000, to find out more about the island's traditional music.

To Remake 'Back to School'

Rodney Dangerfield

It's "Back to School" for Rodney Dangerfield. The 81-year-old comedian has signed a deal with MGM to remake the 1986 hit comedy, his publicist Kevin Sasaki said Friday.

The bug-eyed comic won't reprise his starring role as a brash businessman who becomes a college freshman. But he may have a cameo and probably will receive a producer or executive producer credit, Sasaki said.

Dangerfield retained some rights to the movie when MGM bought the film library of Orion Pictures, the original distributor.

Jewelry Recovered at Airport

Lil' Kim's

Rapper Lil' Kim got her bling-bling back. An estimated $250,000 worth of jewelry belonging to the hip-hop performer and producer was recovered Friday at Kennedy International Airport, where it had disappeared one week earlier.

The missing jewelry, including her signature diamond-encrusted "Queen Bee" necklace, was found wrapped inside a rag by a United Airlines worker in a locker room for airline employees, her attorney Mel Sachs said Saturday. Diamond-covered platinum dog tags were also recovered.

The rapper, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, had a carry-on bag containing the jewelry. An error at the airline check-in counter caused the carry-on piece of Louis Vuitton luggage to get mixed in with the rest of the rapper's luggage.

When the bag was recovered, the jewelry was missing, police said.

Anti-Globalisation Hero

Jose Bove

Nearly 3,000 people demonstrated in central France to demand the release of anti-globalisation hero Jose Bove, jailed for helping to destroy genetically modified crops.

The demonstrators gathered Saturday afternoon on the banks of the river Tarn in Bove's home town of Millau, in support of the leader of France's radical farmers' union, the Peasant's Confederation.

Earlier Saturday about 100 people protested in front of the High Commission in Noumea, in the French overseas territory of New Caledonia, calling for Bove's release, handing over a letter to French President Jacques Chirac asking him to intervene.

The 49-year-old sheep farmer has become increasingly known around the world for his protests targeting junk food, US trade tariffs and the risks to the environment of genetically modified organisms (GMOs)

Stamps Issued In Malta

Elton John

The nation of Malta will issue stamps of Elton John to commemorate his concert there on July 6. Four images of the pop superstar will be released as a one-sheet set on July 1, to be sold at all Malta post offices, including a mobile postal unit. Stamp collectors will be able to buy the stamp sheets in mint or cancelled formats, as well as in a specially-made presentation pack or in a souvenir folder.

Preparations for the Elton John concert are causing quite a ruckus in the town of Floriana. The Malta Independent newspaper reports that the city council and many residents are up in arms over the closure of roads, which halted construction in the area where the show will take place.

Faith Inspired Movie

Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson says he attended Mass every morning while shooting his new movie, The Passion, because "we had to be squeaky clean just working on this."

The film, which Gibson directs, stars James Caviezel as Christ during the last 12 hours of his life and Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene. The $25 million US production was shot in the Aramaic language of the time, but there were subtitles for Thursday's showing.

"I'm not a preacher, and I'm not a pastor," the 47-year-old director-actor said. "But I really feel my career was leading me to make this. The Holy Ghost was working through me on this film, and I was just directing traffic. I hope the film has the power to evangelize."

Gibson said the film "was a strange mixture of the most difficult thing I've ever done, along with this incredible ease. Everyone who worked on this movie was changed. There were agnostics and Muslims on set converting to Christianity."

Car's 50th Anniversary

Corvettes

Tom Meadows isn't kidding when he says his two children, both in their 30s, are too young to inherit his all-original 1966 Corvette.

"It's in my will that if something happens to me before they come of age — which I believe is at least 40 — she goes to the National Corvette Museum until they're old enough to treat her right," said Meadows of Salisbury, Md., on Thursday as he stood beside the pristine convertible with only 8,800 miles on it.

The couple are among thousands of Corvette enthusiasts streaming into Nashville and Bowling Green, Ky., this weekend to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the sleek sports car that first rolled off the Chevrolet assembly line on June 30, 1953, in Flint, Mich.

Although Corvettes now are built in Bowling Green — a college town about 60 miles to the north where the Corvette museum is also located — the city has no venue big enough to handle all the car lovers expected to attend the celebration.

Instead, they'll be at the Tennessee Titans' Coliseum in Nashville for parades, vintage and new car displays, seminars and concerts by The Temptations and ZZ Top. Some planned to head back to Bowling Green for birthday cake to celebrate the actual anniversary Monday.

A new Corvette sells for around $50,000. The average buyer is a 49-year old white man earning more than $125,000 a year with five or more vehicles.

$180 Million Fine

Satellite Piracy

A man who admitted scheming to steal satellite television signals has been ordered to pay $180 million in restitution in $500-a-month installments — a payment plan that would take 30,000 years to fulfill.

Steven Frazier, 28, pleaded guilty to conspiracy in a scheme to manufacture and sell devices to decode satellite TV signals and allow people to get premium service for free. He also received a five-year prison sentence.

A federal judge ordered restitution Wednesday based on a formula of how much Frazier's intended victims, DirecTV and EchoStar, would have lost had the scheme succeeded.

The companies estimate they could have lost $900 million. "We take this very seriously," said Larry Rissler, a DirecTV vice president.

Frazier, of Sacramento, Calif., was arrested in October by the FBI and U.S. Customs agents in Dallas while he tried to board a flight to Mexico. Customs agents tracking his operations found computer chips and hacking gear in his luggage.
