Anyway, when I took delivery of my new Humgulpper, I took it to
my local American run gas station to fill up the tank. As it was
a sweltering day (temperatures were in the upper seventies), I
left it running so I could relax in my shrew skin leather covered
interior without the inconvenience of having to turn off the air
conditioning while the attendant filled the tank.
It seemed to take a long time to top off the fifty gallon tank
(almost two hours) when the illegal, minimum wage paid, Mexican
who works at a menial job for the American run gas station. Tried
to give me a tip. He said that if I was to turn off the
Humgulppers engine, he could fill it up faster.
Now this is what I am talking about, folks.
Here we have an illegal Mexican living in our country telling me
that I should give up my God given right to all the fossil fuels
I want.
Can you believe that he thought that I should suffer in that
terrible heat that was caused by a hole in the ozone layer?
(which, by the way, my research shows was created by centuries of
volcanic activity.)
Not only is he an illegal Mexican who can barely understand
English. (even shouting at him doesn't help.)
He is probably a democrat, liberal, atheist, communist who is
taking jobs from real Christian republican Americans.
Well that's all for today. I must go pack and prepare for my trip
and, see how my stock portfolio is doing.
Pray for our Republican Christian America, folks.
The godless liberal Democrats sure won't.

Only hours before Switzerland's principal film festival was to award him an honorary "Leopard" prize, British film author Ken Loach lashed at a number of assorted pet targets, including British premier Tony Blair.
In a sweeping reference to the heads of the British, Italian and US governments, Loach told a press conference: "Tony Blair does not belong to the left but to the right, just like Berlusconi and Bush."
To the maverick film-maker, September 11, 2001 saw the beginning in the United States of what he called state terrorism and an interminable war whose aim was to push all forms of capitalism across the world.

Blackout Cancels Concert
Iggy Pop
A high wattage rock band and a venue named after a power company couldn't make the show go on during the blackout that hit the state.
Iggy Pop & the Stooges had finished a sound check Thursday at DTE Energy Music Theatre and were headed back to their Auburn Hills hotel when the power went out, the Detroit Free Press reported on its Web site.
It was supposed to be the biggest Detroit rock reunion of the year: Iggy with brothers Ron and Scott Asheton performing their first hometown show in three decades, in front of what would have been a packed crowd of fans.
The concert was rescheduled for Aug. 25.

Bicyclist Sues CNN Anchor

A bicyclist has filed a $10 million lawsuit against CNN anchor Jack Cafferty for leaving the scene of an accident.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in state Supreme Court in Manhattan, alleges Cafferty was "reckless and grossly negligent" when he knocked Billy Maldonado off his bike with his Cadillac and drove away on May 14.
Earlier this month, the anchor was ordered to pay a $250 fine and perform 70 hours of community service after pleading guilty to leaving the scene of an accident.
A traffic officer and about five pedestrians ran after Cafferty's car to stop him after the accident, but Cafferty drove through at least two red lights and around other vehicles without stopping, dragging the bike beneath his car, according to a police complaint.

Rob Lowe
Actor Rob Lowe, who played a top White House aide on television, has joined the real-life gubernatorial campaign of fellow star Arnold Schwarzenegger, a campaign spokeswoman said on Friday.
Lowe, a longtime Democratic activist whose attendance at the party's 1988 national convention led to a sex scandal, has accepted a volunteer post to organize celebrity supporters for Schwarzenegger, a Republican seeking to unseat Democratic California Gov. Gray Davis in a recall election this fall.
Schwarzenegger and Lowe became friends when their families met three years ago while on vacation, and Lowe last year helped rally voters and raise money for Schwarzenegger's successful ballot initiative on after-school programs for children, campaign spokeswoman Karen Hanretty said.

Says Germans' Claim May Be True
Lindbergh Grandson
A U.S. grandson of Charles Lindbergh said Friday it was possible three Germans who say the aviator was their father were telling the truth because in photographs they "look hauntingly familiar."
Morgan Lindbergh, 36, said in a telephone call to Reuters that he wanted to take the Germans up on their offer to submit to DNA tests to resolve the question of whether Lindbergh was their father and that he would also take a DNA test himself.
"I'm not speaking for the Lindbergh family but only for myself -- I believe it is possible (they are Lindbergh children)," said Morgan Lindbergh, whose father Jon, 71, was the second child of Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh.
Dyrk Hesshaimer, 45, Astrid Bouteuil, 42, and David Hesshaimer, 36, said they went public with the family secret now, two years after their mother died, only because they wanted to be recognized as Lindbergh's children -- and erase a blemish of having "father unknown" on their birth certificates.

Actor Tom Sizemore was convicted in Los Angeles on Friday of domestic violence, criminal threats and obscene phone calls stemming from his relationship with onetime "Hollywood Madam" Heidi Fleiss.
Sizemore was found guilty of one count each of domestic violence, criminal threats, vandalism and repeated harassing phone calls and three counts of making obscene phone calls.
The 41-year-old actor faces a possible four years in prison when he is sentenced on Oct. 2.

City Battles Lovers' Padlocks
Pecs, Hungary
The Hungarian city of Pecs is fighting a losing battle against padlocks which lovers are secretly clamping on statues and gates all over the city center as symbols of their enduring affection.
The curious tradition dates back to the early 1980s when lovers began fixing single padlocks, without any markings, on a wrought iron fence in the heart of Pecs, which has a magnificent cathedral and ancient Christian tombs.
With no room now left on the fence, couples, both locals and tourists, are fastening their love tokens on anything that will hold a padlock, including statues.

Customs officials found 500 Chilean tarantulas at Mexico City's international airport, abandoned after the owner of the spiders failed to complete import paperwork.
The environment ministry said 135 of the Chilean Rose tarantulas died. Of those that survived, 20 have been donated to the capital city's Chapultepec zoo and the rest transferred to a wildlife centre run by the ministry.
The Chilean Rose tarantula gets its name from its rusty red and pink hairs. They average under three inches (seven cm) in length and live between six and 11 years.

In July 1990, following news reports that his father was a Nazi, movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger approached his friends at the Simon Wiesenthal Center and asked that they find out the truth.
"I don't know much about my father's past," Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder of the Wiesenthal Center, recalled Schwarzenegger telling him. "I don't know if it's good or bad and I'd like you to find out."
After a two-month investigation, in which Simon Wiesenthal personally was involved, the verdict was in--Gustav Schwarzenegger was indeed a member of the Nazi Party; he voluntarily applied for membership in 1938. But there was no evidence that he was a war criminal. Nor had the Wiesenthal Center found any evidence that the senior Schwarzenegger belonged to any notorious paramilitary units.
But documents in the Austrian State Archives in Vienna, reviewed by The Los Angeles Times this week, show that Gustav Schwarzenegger had a deeper involvement in Hitler's regime than the Wiesenthal Center uncovered. One document in particular shows Gustav Schwarzenegger was indeed a member of the Sturmabteilungen, also known as the "storm troopers" or "brown shirts."
He joined the SA, as the unit was called, on May 1, 1939, according to the entry in the archive file--about six months after the storm troopers helped launch Kristallnacht, when Jewish homes, businesses and synagogues were attacked across Germany and Austria.
Hier said the actor has been a strong supporter of Jews and Jewish causes over the years. Arnold Schwarzenegger has contributed about $750,000 of his own money to the Wiesenthal Center. Showed copies of some of the Austrian documents reviewed by The Times, Hier on Wednesday immediately assigned researchers to dig deeper into Gustav Schwarzenegger's past.

Roxie C. Laybourne
Roxie C. Laybourne, who pioneered the science of forensic ornithology to help protect airplanes from collisions with birds, has died. She was 92.
Laybourne worked at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, where she developed the specialty of identifying dead birds from their feathers to learn what types of birds struck planes.
Aircraft engine manufacturers strengthened their fan blades and the military developed stronger fighter canopies following her work in identifying the birds.
Laybourne died Aug. 7 after an illness of several weeks.
She became involved in identifying birds from their remains after a Lockheed Electra taking off from Boston in 1960 flew into a flock of starlings and crashed, killing all 62 people aboard.
Laybourne was able to identify the type of birds involved in the crash from charred fragments that clogged the plane's engines. She went on to develop new methods for identifying birds from fragmentary remains and bits of feathers.
Her findings helped in the development of bird management programs to discourage flocks from congregating around airports as well as improvements in airplane engines themselves.
Laybourne handled feather evidence for the National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration, Pratt and Whitney, General Electric, Rolls Royce and for the FBI in crimes ranging from robbery to vandalism to kidnapping.
Her work was recognized in 1966 with a lifetime achievement award from the Air Force Bird Strike Committee.
Born in Fayetteville, N.C., in 1910, Laybourne graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., and later earned a masters degree at George Washington University. She worked for the National Fisheries Laboratory in Beaufort, N.C., and the North Carolina State Museum before joining the Smithsonian in 1944.
She is survived by two sons, several grandchildren and brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Aug. 22.
