Re: Newspaper Reviews of Clinton's Book
"Newspaper reviews of the book have been unflattering, but with a reported $10 million advance, Clinton could be laughing all the way to the bank. "
Oh, yes! Bush's good puppy press must do their job!

Another Side of the News
US Army Judge, Col. James Pohl has raised the stakes in the Iraq Prison Abuse Scandal. He ordered top commanders, including Gen. John Abizaid, head of Central Command and Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez to testify. Now defense attorneys say they want to show that responsibility rests with Rummy and Bush.
New memos released by the Administration seem to point in that direction. Sen. Patrick J. Leahy claims it's a "self-serving selection" and wants more.
The US has also ended it's push for War Crimes immunity. We've seen one president impeached for illicit sex, is it too much to hope to see this one in the docks in the Hague, where he belongs??!! Oh, and nice drive Chimpy. Great commercial for Michael Moore's Farenheit 9/11. The Republicans are already trying to have it censored.

Hollywood Concert Raises $5M
John Kerry
Comedian Billy Crystal called it "Woodstock for really, really rich people" as Hollywood's artists came out to raise $5 million to put Democrat John Kerry in the White House.
"A presidential candidate needs all the friends he can get, even if they come from show business," said actor Ben Affleck, opening Thursday night's star-studded concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond performed their 1978 hit "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" together for the first time in 24 years. Streisand also sang a special 2004 election version of her song "People."
Other performers included actors Ben Stiller, Esai Morales, Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro and singers Willie Nelson and Angie Stone.
The $5 million raised will be divided between Kerry's campaign and the Democratic National Committee, as will funds raised at a second concert in New York City on July 8. The New York concert will feature the Dave Matthews Band, Mary J. Blige, John Mellencamp, Jon Bon Jovi, Wyclef Jean, Whoopi Goldberg and others.

Infinity Will Back
Howard Stern
Despite calls to restrain shock jock Howard Stern, Infinity Broadcasting will stand behind Stern as well as its other radio stars, a top Infinity executive said on Friday.
Stern, whose ratings have been on the rise of late, is one of the biggest stars in radio and key employee for Viacom. When his long-time benefactor and supporter, Mel Karmazin, quit as Viacom's No. 2 executive earlier this month, Stern said his own days with the company were likely numbered.
In turn, Viacom executives have identified strengthening their relationship with Stern as a top priority.

Clapton Guitar Brings $959,500 at Auction
'Blackie'
Eric Clapton's favorite guitar for 15 years fetched $959,500 at auction on Thursday, easily eclipsing the record set by the sale of another guitar by the legendary rock musician five years ago.
The Fender Stratocaster, nicknamed "Blackie," was one of 88 guitars and other items Clapton and other musicians donated to raise money for Crossroads Center Antigua, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in the West Indies.
The auction brought in a total of $7,438,624. That's nearly half again the $5 million generated at Christie's 1999 sale, which also benefited Crossroads.

Revs Up 'Speed Racer'
Vince Vaughn
Chim Chim must be doing back flips. Warner Bros. is back on track with development of a live-action film adaptation of the popular Japanese-made cartoon series "Speed Racer," the studio said on Thursday.
The "Speed" project, idling in Warner's slow lane for about a decade, shifted back into high gear after actor Vince Vaughn ("DodgeBall") sold the studio on his own concept for the movie, with Vaughn cast as the title character's mysterious big brother, Racer X, a studio spokeswoman said.

Organizes 'Garage Band' Fest
Steven Van Zandt
Do you remember "Hullaballo"? "Upbeat"? "Shindig"? Those classic '60s rock television shows inspired Little Steven Van Zandt's latest project - a one-day "garage band" festival featuring the godfathers of garage rock and their offspring.
The old guard at "The International Underground Garage Festival" includes the reunited New York Dolls, Iggy Pop & the Stooges, and Bo Diddley, Van Zandt announced Friday. The new kids feature the Strokes, the Raveonettes and the Chesterfield Kings.
Many of the other bands at the Aug. 14 show on Randall's Island in New York City were unearthed by Van Zandt for his nationally syndicated "Underground Garage" radio show.

Dumped On School District
CDs
The Puget Sound Educational Service District, serving 35 school districts, received 1,300 copies of Whitney Houston's soaring rendition of the "Star-Spangled Banner," a disc that includes only one other song, "America the Beautiful."
The Washington state school and library system received the CDs and hundreds of others from the recording industry as part of a price-fixing lawsuit.
Other discs have raunchy rap unsuitable for school libraries, and some librarians said it looked like the music companies were dumping stale inventory.
Forty-three states are part of the settlement and Washington is the first state to receive the CDs - more than 115,000 for libraries, colleges and schools. Millions more will land on library loading docks around the country in coming weeks.

Federline was previously involved with actress Shar Jackson, of TV's "Moesha." They have a 2-year-old daughter together and are expecting another baby in July.

Chimpy's Records
The Associated Press has sued the Pentagon and Air Force, seeking access to all records of resident George W. Bush's military service, but the news agency wonders why it has come to this.
"It seems a little curious because the president made a pretty forceful presentation that he had nothing to hide," said AP General Counsel Dave Tomlin, when asked for his reaction to what the AP considers government stonewalling. "But we are not surprised."
Tomlin said he did not expect White House officials to "rush right over with the information," after the lawsuit was filed, but expected a proper response. "It is important to get this; we'd like to see priority handling on it."

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, in the doghouse with animal-welfare advocates for proposing that shelters be allowed to kill stray animals more quickly to save money, said Friday that his budget recommendation was a mistake.
As part of his budget proposal first drafted in December, the governor had asked the Legislature to repeal a 1998 law that requires the shelters to hold dogs and cats up to six days before destroying them. The governor wanted to save local goverments that operate the shelters $14 million by cutting the waiting period in half.
But after a nationwide storm of protest, the governor organized a press conference outside his Capitol office and confessed to his error.

Apologizes For Calling War Reporters 'Afraid'
Wolfie The Comb Licker
Under attack for criticizing the courage of U.S. war correspondents in Baghdad this week in testimony before Congress, Paul Wolfowitz, the No. 2 man in the Pentagon, issued an unusual apology late Thursday. Wolfowitz said he felt "deep regret" for not apologizing sooner.
In the three-paragraph letter, Wolfowitz revealed he was aware that journalists go out each day "in the most dangerous circumstances" to cover the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that 34 had given their lives in Iraq already.

'Covering Up History'
Memorial Hall Museum
They are etched in stone, memories from battles pitched here 300 years ago. But, with words like "savages" and praise for "patriots" who attacked noncombatants, they only tell one side of the story - and no one is arguing that.
Proud descendants of Deerfield's white settlers erected historical markers by the dozens here back in the days when the battleground with American Indian tribes had shifted west to the Black Hills of South Dakota.
But now, some say, the markers have become a modern embarrassment in this museum village that for centuries has been consumed with preserving history.
So, in an exhibit, unabashedly called "Covering Up History," historians have hung removable banners over some of the marble plaques in Memorial Hall Museum commemorating the attacks on Deerfield during the French and Indian Wars. Visitors are invited to comment on the rewrite.
