Re: Cat With Hands
Hi.
I saw "The Cat with Hands" at the International Animation Festival in
Annecy, France a couple of years ago. IT MADE MY BLOOD RUN COLD. Nobody in
the audience was prepared for how beautifully terrifying it was, and a few
hundred people were totally freaked out. It turned pants into litter boxes.
Brilliant!
When I saw it mentioned on BartCopE!, I Googled it and found various sources
for it...so just Google it up and don't watch it alone.
Love!
...Blaine Capatch
ps: For some reason, I feel compelled to tell you I was the host of
"Beat the Geeks" on Comedy Central.
pps: Hi, Mr. Ashcroft!
Thanks, Blaine!
When I googled, kept coming across interesting tangents to follow, ended up pissing away a couple of hours & forgot all about the video.
Still, it was time well-spent.

Kept Jo, the (lucky) lizard, on the porch all day. He missed the sun, but still did his little happy dance when the load of fresh crickets were dumped in his terrarium.

Buy 'Fahrenheit 9/11' from Disney
Harvey & Bob Weinstein
Miramax film studio founders Harvey and Bob Weinstein have personally acquired rights to Michael Moore's documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" from Walt Disney Co., after Disney, which owns Miramax, declined to distribute it, Disney said on Friday.
Miramax had funded the film but Disney said it was too politically charged for the family-friendly company.
After more than a week of talks, the Weinsteins have bought rights to the film, estimated to have cost about $6 million, and will arrange for its theatrical and home video distribution.

Scholars Lecture on Show
'Buffy'
It's tough for scholars to be taken seriously when their subject is a TV show about a California blonde fighting evil in a high school built on a gateway to hell. Particularly when the title is as campy as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
But enough professors and writers study the comedic drama and its spinoff, "Angel," to hold a deadly serious academic conference this weekend attracting more than 325 people.
Buffyologists from as far away as Singapore were presenting 190 papers on topics ranging from "slayer slang" to "postmodern reflections on the culture of consumption" to "Buffy and the new American Buddhism."
College courses across the globe are devoted to the show, which was canceled last year, and secondary schools in Australia and New Zealand also provide Buffy classes.
For the rest, 'Buffy'

The skyline sits silhouetted as the sun sets looking down 34th street in New York May 28, 2004. May 28th in Manhattan serves as one of only two days in the year when the Sun sets in exact alignment with the Manhattan grid, fully illuminating every single cross-street for the last fifteen minutes of daylight. The other day is July 11th. Because Manhattan is so small (13 miles long) compared with Earth's distance to the Sun (about 93 million miles), the Sun's rays are essentially parallel by the time they reach Manhattan, allowing the Sun to be seen on all cross streets simultaneously, provided you have a clear view to the New Jersey horizon.

Offers Berg Interview to Family
Michael Moore
Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore interviewed Nick Berg, the American contractor beheaded in Iraq, for his latest film and has offered to show the footage to Berg's family before he would release it, a family spokesman said on Friday.
The clip was made during the filming of "Fahrenheit 9/11," Moore's new movie attacking the Bush administration, which won this year's Palme d'Or, the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
The contents of the interview were unknown, as was the date it was made. Moore's office did not say why it was not used in the film.

Must Pay $177,000
Barbra Streisand
Barbra Streisand must pay $177,000 in legal fees incurred by an amateur photographer who fended off a $10 million lawsuit over aerial photographs he took showing her Malibu estate.
Streisand's lawsuit against retired software entrepreneur Kenneth Adelman claimed the photos showed details of her estate that can't be seen from the street. She alleged they could increase a problem she already has with stalkers.
Adelman said he posted the photos as part of his scientific research on coastline conservation. He has posted more than 12,000 photos on his California Coastal Records Project Web site.
Superior Court Judge Allan J. Goodman ordered Streisand to pay Adelman's lawyer fees when the judge dismissed the lawsuit in December.

Remarks Taken 'Out Of Context'
Gene Simmons
Kiss bassist Gene Simmons, who sparked outrage in Australia after making comments seen as anti-Muslim, said he was speaking only of "extremists" and that his remarks were taken out of context.
Simmons sparked outrage when Kiss toured Australia earlier this month with comments seen as attacking Islam.
"This is a vile culture and if you think for a second that it's willing to just live in the sands of God's armpit you've got another thing coming," Simmons said during an interview on Melbourne's 3AW radio. "They want to come and live right where you live and they think that you're evil."

Christ's right hand appears to float above the supper table, his plump face cast downward in a blessing; a pilgrim thrusts his arms outward, fingers trembling in religious awe.
"Supper at Emmaus," a boundary-breaking oil from 1601 depicting a biblical scene using temporal models, is the culminating work of "Painters of Reality, The Legacy of Leonardo and Caravaggio in Lombardy." The survey of the north Italian school opened Thursday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The exhibition encompasses more than 80 paintings and 40 drawings from the late 15th century to the 18th century, documenting the Lombard School's emphasis on portraying the natural world with more realism than what is found in much of mannerist Italian Renaissance art.
Notable Lombard artists in the show include Lorenzo Lotto, Giovanni Girolamo Savoldo, Giacomo Ceruti, Moretto da Brescia, Giuseppe Arcimboldi, and women artists Sofonisba Anguissola and Fede Galizia.
Caravaggio is the true star, with six oils on display.
