Re: Heidelberg
Marty,
My husband is an Army brat who went to school in Heidelberg!!! He loves to
tell us of proms in the castle and beerhaus lunches. They were shipped
stateside his sophomore year. His sister did graduate from HHS.

Thanks, Heather!
My time in Heidelberg was with Pepperdine,
way back when Heidelberg was their only off shore campus.
Every now & then our pathes would cross with the American high school kids, who seemed light years ahead of our siblings stateside.
Rumor had it that 'Moore Haus' (where most of the Pepperdiners lived), had been nazi headquarters in Heidelberg. It had it's own bunker in the back yard.
It was also a few houses up the street from Albert Speer's residence. We often shouted greetings to him, but he never responded.
Pepperdine, being Pepperdine, frowned on drinking and outright forbade dancing.
Needless to say, a lot of drinking & dancing happened that year.

Another Side of the News
It's damage control with the Iraq prison scandal. Democrats and the rest of the world are outraged. Republicans are saying it's not so bad, we've apologized, and it's time to move on. Meanwhile, the violence escalates with the beheading of Nicholas Berg. Neo-Con philosopher Leo Strauss advocated perpetual war to control the masses. Sieg Heil!!!

David Fanning, the executive producer of PBS' "Frontline" series, has received the Columbia Journalism Award, the highest honor given by the university's journalism school faculty.
"David Fanning and his signature program, `Frontline,' have turned a commitment to probing journalism and public service into an enduring national conversation, without which far too many important issues would remain veiled or hidden altogether," said David Klatell, Columbia's associate dean for academic affairs.
Fanning, who will accept his award Wednesday, has executive-produced "Frontline" since the program began in 1983. The investigative series has won 29 Emmys, 16 duPont-Columbia University awards and 11 Peabody Awards.

Racing Group Adds Name
Rahal Letterman Racing
Team Rahal is now Rahal Letterman Racing in recognition of a certain late-night TV host's longtime business partnership with car owner Bobby Rahal.
Letterman, an Indianapolis native, has had a minority interest in the Hilliard, Ohio, operation since 1996, although the official name remained Team Rahal. Bobby Rahal, a former Indy winner as a driver, announced the name change for his IndyCar program before the start of Indianapolis 500 practice Thursday.
Rahal said Letterman's involvement with the team has not changed, but the new name reflects his own desire to give the comedian more credit.

'Unfortunate Coincidence'
Doonesbury
The distributor of "Doonesbury" called it an "unfortunate coincidence" that a strip depicting a man's head on a platter is set to run in newspapers days after the release of a videotape showing an American's beheading by Iraqi militants.
Kansas City-based Universal Press Syndicate said Friday the strip, scheduled to run May 23, was drawn before Nicholas Berg's death in Iraq; it will offer a substitute comic strip.
In the strip, the character Joanie, angry about her friend's firing from her university coaching job, begins daydreaming. In the last frame, she's pictured carrying a platter with the head of the university president on it. He says, "What's this." She responds, "A good start."

Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has sparked outrage in Australia with comments seen as attacking Islam.
"This is a vile culture and if you think for a second that it's willing to just live in the sands of God's armpit you've got another thing coming," Simmons said during an interview on Melbourne's 3AW radio Thursday. "They want to come and live right where you live and they think that you're evil."
"You can send your dog to school to learn tricks, sit, beg, do all that stuff - none of the women have that advantage," the 54-year-old said.
