New Book Says Loves Were Legion
Katharine Hepburn
A quick glance at Katharine Hepburn's list of lovers in a
soon-to-be-released biography might prompt fans to wonder where the
woman found time to make movies.
According to Katharine the Great, due out Valentine's Day from Blood
Moon Productions, the late actress' many conquests included Claudette
Colbert, Ernest Hemingway, John Ford, Greta Garbo, George Stevens,
Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Judy Holliday, John Barrymore, Robert Mitchum,
Judy Garland, Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan and Paul Henreid.
Hepburn was one busy bisexual, claims author Darwin Porter. In addition
to her legendary love affair with Spencer Tracy, Porter writes, she had
a lifelong romance with American Express heiress Laura Harding. She also
had a sexual attachment to close friend Irene Selznick, wife of producer
David O. Selznick, the book says; the two chums liked to break into
Hollywood mansions for fun.
First lady Eleanor Roosevelt had a crush on Kate, Porter notes. But then
again, if this unauthorized bio is to be believed, who didn't?

Jamaica Marks 59th Birthday
Bob Marley
Swaying to an African drumbeat, dozens of dreadlocked Rastafarians chanted and puffed on long marijuana joints Friday to mark the 59th birthday of reggae legend Bob Marley.
Radio stations filled the airwaves with Marley tunes, reggae artists planned tribute concerts and tourists came out in droves to honor the late singer, who died of cancer in 1981 at age 36.
Born Feb. 6, 1945, in rural St. Ann parish, Marley rose from the gritty shantytowns of Kingston to international stardom and remains one of Jamaica's most beloved sons. His lyrics promoting "one love" and social revolution made him an icon in developing countries worldwide.
In recent years, more Jamaicans have called for Marley to be named a national hero, the country's highest honor, but the government has yet to act on it.

Proud of Fat Rear
Jack Nicholson
Hollywood star Jack Nicholson said on Friday he was proud of his "big fat ass" after baring his bottom in the film "Something's Gotta Give" that was the highlight of the second day of the Berlin Film Festival.
Nicholson, 66, said he hoped the exposure of his hidden asset would help promote the film, which has sparked discussion in the United States because of groundbreaking love scenes with 58-year-old Diane Keaton.
"I'm very proud of my ass," Nicholson told reporters after the film got a lukewarm reception from journalists at the Berlinale. "I did suggest it for the poster for the movie, but I found out that would be illegal. I just have a big fat ass."

Resigns from Grammy Post
Jermaine Dupri
Upset over what he considers the unfair treatment of singer and friend Janet Jackson by the group that distributes the Grammy awards, rapper and music producer Jermaine Dupri announced Friday he was resigning as president of the group's Atlanta chapter.
The National Association of Recording Arts & Sciences has used Jackson as a scapegoat since she bared her breast during a Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 1, said Dupri, who has been romantically linked with Jackson.
Dupri, 31, said he wasn't sure whether NARAS or CBS was behind the decision to remove Jackson from the Grammy lineup, but he doesn't want to have any part of it. Jackson was supposed to have taken part in a tribute to Luther Vandross, although Vandross is too ill to attend Sunday's awards show.
Dupri has produced hits for Jackson, Mariah Carey, TLC and others. In January, he was named a senior vice president of Arista Records, taking with him the So So Def label.

Because of the accident, the "Late Show" stopped taping Thursday night's show and aired a repeat. Other scheduled guests were actress Drew Barrymore and pop band Fountains of Wayne.

Complaints Pour In
FCC
Upset television viewers have filed more than 200,000 complaints about Janet Jackson's breast-baring performance at the Super Bowl, a record for the Federal Communication Commission, officials said on Friday.
Gripes over the flash of Jackson's breast last Sunday easily eclipsed the FCC's previous record -- 80,000 complaints that came after television actress Nicole Richie used a curse word on the 2003 Billboard Music Awards, the agency said.
"The vast majority express outrage that this occurred during a family program, when many children were in the viewing audience," FCC consumer and information chief K. Dane Snowden said in a statement.
FCC Chairman Michael Powell has vowed a thorough investigation of the incident, calling it a "classless, crass and deplorable stunt."
FCC
Last summer the FCC received more than 200,000 letters regarding the new ownership limits, but Mikey Powell said they didn't matter, his mind was made up.

2nd Season Picked Up
Donald Trump
Real estate tycoon Donald Trump will be back on NBC with a new group of 16 would-be proteges for a second edition of reality hit "The Apprentice" to debut in the fall, the network said on Thursday.
In its first three Thursday night telecasts, buoyed by a lead-in from NBC powerhouse comedy "Friends," Trump's show has averaged a 9.4 rating among the network's target audience of 18- to 49-year-olds and 19.1 million viewers overall, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Not counting the show's lone Wednesday night outing opposite Fox's hit talent contest "American Idol," "The Apprentice" ranks as the season's No. 3 series in the 18-49 demographic and No. 6 in total viewers. That Wednesday night episode, on Jan. 21, drew a comparatively anemic 6.4 million viewers overall.

Hilton, who describes herself in the Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit as a model and actress, sued Kahatani Ltd. for violation of privacy, illegal business practices and infliction of emotional distress.
The 22-year-old socialite -- best known as star of the Fox reality TV show "The Simple Life" -- seeks $15 million in actual damages and another $15 million in punitive damages.

May Cut Talent Competition
Miss America
A scaled-down Miss America telecast this year may not include live talent performances or discussion of contestants platforms, according to pageant officials.
ABC, which has televised the pageant since 1997 and is now negotiating a new deal with the Miss America Organization, has said it wants to cut the three-hour show by an hour. That would mean less money for the pageant, whose television ratings have fallen sharply in recent years, with last year's show posting the lowest numbers in pageant history.
The changes would not eliminate the pageant's talent portion — contestants would still have to perform during the three nights of preliminary competition. However, many fans and former contestants are outraged that the changes are even being considered.

Slammed For Painting
National Gallery of Victoria
A Melbourne public art gallery has rejected demands it remove a painting that obscenely mocks the close relationship between Australian Prime Minister John Howard and US resident George W. Bush.
The work at the National Gallery of Victoria by artist Gordon Hookey includes the line: "John Howard and Australia are so far up George Dubbah Yah Bush and the USA's arse that we're in the s---. We're kept in the dark and it stinks."
A spokesman for the Victoria state branch of Howard's Liberal party, Andrew Olexander, said Friday that Hookey's work was "not appropriate (to) be shown at public expense" and should be taken down.
But gallery director Gerard Vaughan defended the gallery's right to display work that expressed the personal political views of a contemporary artist.

Bush To Attend
Daytona 500
US resident George W. Bush will attend the classic Daytona 500 automobile race on February 15, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.
The 500-mile race at Dayton International Speedway in Florida is the signature event of the hugely popular National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) season.
Some US political experts have pegged so-called "NASCAR dads" as a potentially crucial political force in the 2004 elections, much as "Soccer moms" did four years ago, saying they are up for grabs by either party.

Suit Filed
Janet Jackson's Breast
A Tennessee woman has sued Janet Jackson and others involved in her breast-baring Super Bowl halftime show, saying millions of people are owed monetary damages for exposure to lewd conduct, court records showed on Friday.
The suit, filed earlier this week in federal court in Knoxville, Tennessee, also names pop star Justin Timberlake, who performed with Jackson, CBS Broadcasting Inc., show producer MTV Networks Enterprises Inc., and the parent of those two companies, Viacom Inc.
The action seeks a court order to prevent anything like last Sunday's stunt from being repeated on U.S. network television prior to 10 p.m. local time when children might be watching.
It also asks the court to declare the matter a class action for purposes of damages. No dollar figure is mentioned in the suit, but it estimates that over 80 million U.S. viewers might be due compensation. CBS has said the game drew an average viewership of just under 89.6 million people. Advertising during the game sold for more than $2 million a spot.

Rare Species May Not Be Extinct
Miss Waldron's Red Colobus Monkey
A species of monkey thought likely to be extinct may still be swinging through the trees in Africa, according to an anthropologist.
The Miss Waldron's red colobus monkey was declared likely extinct in 2000 by a team that included W. Scott McGraw, an assistant professor of anthropology at Ohio State University. None had been seen since 1978, but McGraw said Wednesday he has evidence the species survives.
Two years ago, McGraw retrieved the skin of a monkey a hunter killed in Ivory Coast that had the markings of the red colobus, he said. The pelt had the species' typical black hair on its back with reddish fur on its forehead and thighs, along with freshly dried blood.
Recently, he received a photo from an associate in Africa that shows a dead red colobus. McGraw is convinced the photo is genuine, he said.
The monkey grows to a height of about 3 feet, with a head that is small for its frame. It eats fruit, seeds and foliage and emits a loud shriek. The species is believed to be named for the companion of its discoverer. There are about 18 species of red colobus.

Adam Sandler's beloved English bulldog, Meatball, who served as a ring bearer at the comedian's wedding, has gone on to that big doghouse in the sky.
Meatball died of a heart attack Jan. 27 at age 4, Us Weekly reported in its Feb 6 issue.
The bulldog wore a yarmulke and a tuxedo to walk down the aisle at Sandler's June 2003 wedding to Jackie Titone. He's also featured in a short film on the "Eight Crazy Nights" DVD, and has his own photo and video section on Sandler's Web site.
Meatball's father was Mr. Beefy, the talking pooch who co-starred in Sandler's 2000 comedy "Little Nicky." The 37-year-old comedian also has a bulldog puppy, Matzoball, who was a wedding gift from Titone.
