Sold to New Group
Liberal Radio Network
A group headed by a former adviser to the Democratic National Committee has taken over the effort to create a liberal radio network to compete with conservative talk radio.
Mark Walsh, who's also a former America Online executive, said his investors' group bought the proposed network from the venture capitalists who started AnShell Media L.L.C. in February. The purchase price was not announced.
At the time, Sheldon and Anita Drobny said they had lined up $10 million and hoped to be on the air by this fall. But the Drobnys never hired any talent, purchased any stations or signed any distribution contracts.

Asked Clark About Criticism
David Letterman
Late night talk show host David Letterman touched a nerve Thursday when he asked Democratic presidential hopeful Wesley Clark about criticism from a former military colleague.
Letterman was referring to retired Gen. Hugh Shelton's assertion in September that Clark was relieved as NATO's supreme commander in 1999 because of "integrity and character issues." Shelton, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, did not elaborate.
"It's a smear, that's all it is," Clark told Letterman in an interview taped for broadcast on CBS Thursday night. "And it doesn't have anything to do with the military. It's the kind of stuff of politics."

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Class of 2004
George Harrison leads a class of 2004 inductees, announced Thursday, that includes Prince, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, Traffic, ZZ Top and the Dells.
The singer and guitarist, who died in November 2001 at 58, already has been inducted into the hall as a member of the Beatles. As a solo artist, his songs included "All Those Years Ago" and "Got My Mind Set On You," although his career was always eclipsed by the legendary success of his old band.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for March 15 in New York City.

Protests Bush Visit
Radiohead
Radiohead vocalist Thom Yorke is at the forefront of protests surrounding resident George Bush's visit to London this week, with Yorke calling Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair "liars," according to NME.com. The singer emailed NME after learning that London police were planning to create a three-mile "exclusion zone" to keep protesters away from Bush, because of concerns over alleged threats of terror attacks against the American leader.
When asked why he chose to speak out, Yorke said, "To make Blair squirm over his decision to take us into a illegitimate war (in Iraq) and follow this religious lunatic (Bush) toward a dangerous future for the whole planet...both of these men are liars. We have the right to call them such, they are putting our children's future in jeopardy. They are not controlling the terrorist threat, they are escalating it.."
Yorke said he was enraged that authorities were using "the threat of terrorism to suppress whatever they choose, intimidate and arrest whoever they wish."

Cancels Letterman Interview
Paris Hilton
Socialite Paris Hilton, star of an upcoming Fox reality series and an inadvertent Internet icon, is pulling out of her announced interview on David Letterman's "Late Show."
Hilton was to have appeared Nov. 26 on the CBS late-night show, the network said Wednesday. A spokesperson for the show said Hilton had been booked as a guest several weeks ago.
But on Thursday morning, a spokesman at Dan Klores Communications, the public relations firm that represents Hilton, said the 22-year-old was scrapping all planned media appearances to promote her new TV show.

Eyeing First Album Since 1976
David Crosby & Graham Nash
David Crosby and Graham Nash will enter the studio in January to record their first album together as a duo in almost 30 years.
"We are excited as hell because we have a terrific bunch of songs for it," Crosby told Billboard.com. The last Crosby & Nash studio album, "Whistling Down the Wire," their third as a duo, was issued in June 1976.
In the meantime, both are promoting another matter entirely -- former Vermont governor Howard Dean's presidential campaign. Both have appeared at fundraisers for the Democrat, and Crosby is to perform Dec. 15 at a benefit for Dean in Los Angeles. Stephen Stills, meanwhile, is backing Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, for whom he also has performed at fundraisers.

Appearing On 'Arrested Development'
Liza Minnelli
After 40 years in show business, Liza Minnelli is trying something new. Minnelli, 57, makes her sitcom debut Sunday night on the Fox comedy "Arrested Development," a comedy about a squabbling family united by greed.
Minnelli told AP Radio that sitcom work is "wacky" and the "maddest thing" she's ever done. She says she finally gets to use her comic ability.
Minnelli plays a widowed socialite who ends up getting a crush on Buster, George and Lucille's youngest son. "He has panic attacks and I've got vertigo, I can't see either. Neither of us can see anything without our glasses," Minnelli said.

Bolstered with New Material
Cobain 'Journals'
The paperback edition of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's "Journals" has been bolstered with 14 pages of new material, including an extended narrative about a semi-fictional serial killer.
Riverhead released the volume Nov. 10, with a front cover reproduction of Cobain's red Mead notebook bearing his hand-written caveat, "if you read, you'll judge."
"Frankly, we had this the first time around, but we chose not to include it, because it's disturbing and bizarre," Riverhead co-editorial director Julie Grau told Billboard.com of the serial killer-themed pages. "We checked, and there was a serial killer that shared some of the traits and biographic facts that he writes about. But it's hard to know if Kurt was inventing all of this but had pieces of facts he recalled."

Charged With Murder
Phil Spector
Record producer Phil Spector, the 1960s recording-studio wizard who created pop music's Wall of Sound, was charged Thursday with murder in the shooting death of a woman at his home last February.
Spector, 63, was expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in the slaying of 40-year-old Lana Clarkson, a B-movie actress and model found dead in the foyer of his Alhambra mansion.
He has been free on $1 million bail since his arrest for investigation of murder shortly after the shooting Feb. 3. Authorities have not given a motive or commented on other details of the investigation.
Spector has denied he killed Clarkson, suggesting in an Esquire magazine interview that she may have shot herself. After more than six months of investigation, authorities concluded Spector shot her.

First Movie IPO
The 1987 Hollywood movie "Wall Street" may have sneered at capitalism, but now one film star is turning to the stock market to finance his new project.
Investors will have the chance to buy a stake in Ethan Hawke's planned independent movie, "Billy Dead," in an initial public offering, the brokerage firm said on Wednesday.
According to the prospectus from broker Civilian Capital Inc., the IPO is expected to raise about $7.3 million through 900,000 shares of preferred stock at $8.75 per share. However, investors must buy in blocks of 100 shares, said Civilian, a Los Angeles company set up specifically to finance movies through public offerings.
Wall Street experts said this is the first time a single movie project has tried to raise money through an IPO.

Religious Insanity
Fiji
A group that recently arranged an apology for an incident of cannibalism in Fiji in the 19th century aims to identify "evil leaders" and replace them with "God-fearing" ones, its strategy papers show.
"It is not enough to leave the selection of God-fearing leaders to government as it may not have the kind of discernment and spiritual anointing needed to identify God-fearing leaders," the Association of Christian Churches of Fiji (ACCF) strategy paper says.
ACCF organised a November 13 ceremony, to lift what was said to be a curse, in which the Nabutautau village apologised to Australian descendants of Methodist missionary Thomas Baker who was killed and eaten in 1867.
ACCF groups 20 denominations of mainly fundamentalist blend.
The mainstream Methodist Church did not approve of the apology which it said had already been carried out in 1985.
The organisation says its vision is for "Fiji to be God's Treasured Possession", achieved "if the people of this country submit themselves to God and accept Jesus Christ as the Lord and Master and their Savour."
It states they have to be "born again Christians", a term applying to membership of new Christian groups and excluding Catholics, Anglicans and Methodists, referring to them as "nominal Christians to Christ"
