In The Chaos Household
Last Night
Another sunny but temperate day.
The kid & I went to dinner at his pal Jeff's house.
Jeff's mom is from El Salvador, and a damn fine cook (although she flinches when I talk like that - LOL)!
Thought I had a 'Survivor' correspondent lined up, but it looks like her school schedule will conflict with a timely viewing. So, still looking for someone to do a regular weekly
column about 'Survivor'. If you're an avowed fan & have an opinion, please drop me a line.

Final Show Tonight
Craig Kilborn
Does the guest lineup for Craig Kilborn's final show tonight on CBS provide any clues to his successor?
Among those stopping by the "The Late Late Show" will be Kilborn pals Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell, with Vaughn's name in particular being floated as a possible Kilborn replacement.
Thesps Marlee Matlin, Martin Mull and Adam West also are slated to take part in Kilborn's final broadcast as host of "Late Late Show," while Wayne Newton will join the show via satellite from Las Vegas.
Until a new host is found, guests will fill in when "Late Late" returns from hiatus on Sept. 20. Guest hosts have not yet been announced.

Boot To The Head
Tom Leykis
Syndicated radio talk show host Tom Leykis, known for belittling callers, urging women to bare their breasts and other antics, was kicked in the head and knocked to the ground over some on-the-air remarks, police say.
The Los-Angeles based Leykis, 48, was treated at a hospital for a black eye and a cut above the eye that required 17 stitches following the attack outside a restaurant early Monday, according to a police report.
On one of his regular trips to broadcast from Seattle, Leykis said he was getting some fresh air about 3:45 a.m. Monday outside a cafe when a man took a picture of him, went back inside the night spot and returned with two other men.
One of the three men said Leykis had taken a call from him and insulted him on the air, questioning his virility. The man who took the picture then kicked Leykis in the head, knocking him to the ground, according to the report.

New Face of Dior Perfume
Charlize Theron
Add Christian Dior to the list of Charlize Theron fans. The company announced Thursday that the Oscar winner will be the new face of J'adore, the designer's fragrance that debuted in 2000.
Theron will start appearing in print ads and TV commercials next month - about the same time that ads for Chanel No. 5, featuring another Oscar winner, Nicole Kidman, debut.
The advertising deal with Theron is the first one between the beauty brand and a celebrity. Dior's artistic director John Galliano oversaw all aspects of the ad campaign.

198-Page Memoir
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton is trying on a new outfit: a hard cover. The model-reality TV star is publishing a 198-page memoir, "Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Chic Peek Behind the Pose," (Fireside).
Though the missing Chihuahua saga was too recent to make the book, Hilton writes about her youth as an heiress in a "really close" family. Excerpts of the book (to hit shelves Sept. 7) are printed in the Sept. 6 issue of People magazine.
"Confessions" reveal a girl not as confident as the runway model frequently seen in the tabloids. "It was so embarrassing being flat-chested that I wore padded bras til I was 17. Now, I'm happy to be small. It looks better in clothes. But back then I was really insecure."

Cameo in 'Muppets' Flick
Quentin Tarantino
"Kill Bill" and "Pulp Fiction" director Quentin Tarantino will make a cameo appearance in a new ABC-TV movie featuring the Muppets and based on the classic tale "The Wizard of Oz," ABC announced Thursday.
The film, with the working title "The Muppets' Wonderful Wizard of Oz," is set to begin production in Vancouver, British Columbia, next month and air in the coming TV season on "The Wonderful World of Disney."
Tarantino's role as himself is likely to be overshadowed by pop star Ashanti, starring as Dorothy, and Miss Piggy. The muppet will play three wicked witches and Glinda, Good Witch of the South.
Among other muppets, Kermit the Frog is the Scarecrow, the Great Gonzo is the Tin Man and Fozzie Bear is the Lion. Besides Ashanti, the film features actress-singer Queen Latifah playing Auntie Em.

Move to USA Looks Certain
News Corp
First, Australian native Rupert Murdoch became a U.S. citizen. Now, he wants to formally domicile his News Corp. media empire in America, too.
Last week, Chairman and CEO Murdoch, his son New York Post Publisher Lachlan Murdoch and other key executives barnstormed Australia in what the nation's press called a "charm offensive" to sell stockholders on a plan to reorganize News Corp. and transfer its primary stock market listing from the Australian Stock Exchange to the New York Stock Exchange's Big Board. News Corp., of course, is already listed on the NYSE, but as a secondary listing. Under a plan unanimously passed by News Corp.'s board Aug. 10, the Australian and London exchanges would become secondary listings.
News Corp. argues the switch will help shareholders by lowering the cost and improving the access to capital. News Corp. would also begin reporting in the same manner as its media peers. In his presentations, Murdoch suggested moving to New York would also correct the market valuations of the company, which he said was trading between 10% and 20% below industry peers such as Viacom, Disney and Time Warner.

Ticket Sales Disappointing for Fest
Elvis Presley Festival
Ticket sales were again disappointing for the Elvis Presley Festival, held in the town where the King of Rock 'n' Roll was born.
The event has drawn some well-known musical acts in the last six years, including B.B. King and Little Richard.
The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association reported a loss of $5,465 for the 2004 festival. Last year, the festival lost $2,642, organizers said.
The Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau cut its contributions from $100,000 in 2003 to $50,000 this year.

Court Tosses Suit Against Show
Maury Povich
An appeals court Thursday tossed out a $25 million lawsuit filed by a Texas teenager who alleged she was raped after an appearance on Maury Povich's (R-Class War) talk show.
The New York court ruled 5-0 that the then-14-year-old girl, who said a man claiming to be the show's limousine driver raped her, was no longer in the care and custody of Povich and his employees when the alleged attack occurred.
The ruling reversed a lower court decision, which found "an active relationship" existed between the girl and the show at the time of the encounter.
The girl, who the judges said had an extensive sexual history and had tried to commit suicide, had come to New York from Hemphill, Texas, in December 2001 to appear on a Povich show about "out-of-control teens."

Antitrust Suit Gets Go-Ahead
Clear Channel
A federal judge in Chicago has found sufficient evidence to allow an antitrust suit against concert promoter Clear Channel Entertainment to proceed to trial.
U.S. District Court Judge Matthew F. Kennedy ruled in a 46-page opinion that evidence may exist showing that CCE executives violated federal antitrust laws to prevent JamSports and Entertainment, a subsidiary of independent concert promoter Jam Productions of Chicago, from promoting supercross events.
JamSports (which counts Tom Petty manager Tony Dimitriades among its principals) filed the suit in April 2002 in the Northern District Court of Illinois. A court date is set for Nov. 15 before Judge Kennedy and a federal court jury.

Hawaiian Musician Takes Ukulele to Stardom
Jake Shimabukuro
Jake Shimabukuro is perched on the verge of stardom. He still does the little clubs, but he can also fill arenas, pulling in thousands of raptured admirers. And he's a darling of the critics, who have compared him to such guitar greats as Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. Not bad, considering Shimabukuro plays the ukulele.
"I've always thought the ukulele was an untapped source of musical potential," the 27-year-old from Honolulu said in an interview recently after wrapping up his third Japan tour. "I want to expose more and more people to the ukulele in this new fashion, changing people's perspective of the instrument. Or just opening up their minds to the new possibilities of it."
Though his repertoire includes a healthy dose of Hawaiian folk songs and light beach music, he also does classical, rock and blues. He performs solo for the more serious, classical pieces. In a group, he plugs in his ukulele and goes nuts, playing it with his teeth a la Hendrix or using a pedal board to create electric-guitarlike effects.
Such virtuosity is quite a feat, since the ukulele has only four strings and a frustratingly narrow range.
For a lot more, Jake Shimabukuro
A critically endangered black rhinoceros calf named 'Ajubu' tried out his legs at the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park, August 26, 2004. The 9-day-old male kept up with his first-time mother as she dashed around their habitat. An adult male, 'Jambia,' which was the last black rhino to be born at the Wild Animal Park seven years ago, sired the rambunctious calf. To date, 10 black rhinos have been born at the Park. Black rhinoceros are now only found in small pockets of eastern and southern Africa, numbering at a mere 3,600. In 1970, there were 65,000 black rhinos throughout larger areas of Africa, but poaching and loss of habitat have caused a devastating decline in the population of all five rhino species.
