I hope you all are blessed with a special Christmas this year. Be in touch with your family & friends. Make some new ones if you can.
Thanks for reading this column. I was completely relaxed from lots of egg nog, & really had to push myself to finish this.
You make it all worthwhile, though.
Merry Christmas!
No One Exosted (John Foxx vs Acid Prophecy) ( http://groovytimewithdjuseo.blogspot.com/2009/12/no-one-exosted-john-foxx-vs-acid.html ) is coming on strong with some great response. Not often do you hear the founder of Ultravox mashed with some psychedelic trance. It's going to climb in your brain & make you replay it again & again. I should'a just made it 9 minutes from the get-go. I have to hear it at least 3 times in a row when I play it.

Current Question
The 'Reform or Expansion' Edition...
I'm soooooo confused!
President Obama says, "We are on the cusp of making health care reform a reality,"
Others say it is merely an expansion of health care insurance opportunities with little reform of the present system. Meanwhile, insurance stocks rocket skyward on the NYSE... Help me out here, would ya? What do you think?
Here, by the way, is a totally negative opinion of the whole shebang by a progressive, not a Rethug.

Dancer Pays To Stay
'A Christmas Story'
A reality TV star gets to spend a couple of nights living like Ralphie in the house used for the movie "A Christmas Story."
The experience is a "major award" for Billy Jeffrey, who says he's obsessed with the 1983 film. He bid $4,200 in an online charity auction and was scheduled to make his sleepovers Monday and Tuesday nights.
The Christmas cult classic film stars Peter Billingsley as Ralphie Parker, a young boy determined to get a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas.
High bidder Jeffrey was a cast member on the ABC reality TV series "True Beauty" last winter and has toured as a Chippendales exotic dancer. He said Monday it was his first visit to Cleveland.

Radio Show Caller
Barry from DC
US President Barack Obama on Tuesday got a rise out of one of his political allies, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, surprising him by calling in to a radio show and identifying himself as Barry from DC.
Kaine, who leads the state just south of Washington, DC, was taking part in a monthly call-in program on WTOP radio.
Thirteen minutes into the show, the announcer said the next caller would be someone named Barry, from DC.
"Governor Kaine, this is actually the president of the United States calling," Obama said.

Vatican Paper Approves
'The Simpsons'
To put it as the devout Ned Flanders would, the Vatican's newspaper thinks "The Simpsons" are an okely dokely bunch.
L'Osservatore Romano on Tuesday congratulated the show on its 20th anniversary, praising its philosophical leanings as well as its stinging and often irreverent take on religion.
Without Homer Simpson and the other yellow-skinned characters "many today wouldn't know how to laugh," said the article titled "Aristotle's Virtues and Homer's Doughnut."
The paper credited "The Simpsons" - the longest-running American animated program - with opening up cartoons to an adult audience.

Def Leppard
British metal veterans Def Leppard are getting animated about their career.
The group has entered a wide-ranging deal with music publishing company Primary Wave, which is developing various marketing and branding opportunities.
Among them is a cartoon TV show, said Primary Wave CEO Larry Mestel. The project is still in the early stages, and has not been pitched to the networks, but it will depict the five members of the group in a fictional, adventurous setting, he said.
Additionally, the company will administer Def Leppard's music publishing, a task previously performed by Sony/ATV. The copyrights will continue to be owned by the songs' various composers.

Humbles Simon Cowell
Rage Against the Machine
A grass-roots Facebook campaign has spoiled American Idol mogul Simon Cowell's Christmas by denying one of his new acts the prestigious Christmas No. 1 spot in Britain.
Thanks to a Facebook campaign that capitalized on growing unhappiness with Cowell's cookie-cutter approach to pop stardom, the antiestablishment Rage Against the Machine came out ahead of Joe McElderry, winner of Cowell's popular "X Factor" TV competition.
The upset for the heavily favored McElderry represents a setback for Cowell, who has made millions on both sides of the Atlantic for his roles in "American Idol," "X Factor," "Britain's Got Talent" and other productions.
Rage Against the Machine finished first with a surge of support for their 1992 hit "Killing in the Name," which became the first Christmas No. 1 in Britain supported only by downloads.
The Facebook campaign was organized by an English couple Jon and Tracy Morter in a concerted effort to break Cowell's recent stranglehold on the holiday No. 1 song, a traditional source of status and bragging rights inside Britain.

Court Bans Sale
Word
A federal appeals court ordered Microsoft Corp. to stop selling its Word program in January and pay a Canadian software company $290 million for violating a patent, upholding the judgment of a lower court.
But people looking to buy Word or Microsoft's Office package in the U.S. won't have to go without the software. Microsoft said Tuesday it expects that new versions of the product, with the computer code in question removed, will be ready for sale when the injunction begins on Jan. 11.
Toronto-based i4i Inc. sued Microsoft in 2007, saying it owned the technology behind a tool in the popular word processing program. The technology in question gives Word users an improved way to edit XML, or code that tells the program how to interpret and display a document's contents.
A Texas jury found that Microsoft Word willfully infringed on the patent. Microsoft appealed that decision, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Tuesday upheld the lower court's damage award and the injunction against future sales of infringing copies of Word.

Quaids
Randy and Evi Quaid finally appeared in court Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to felony charges of defrauding an innkeeper.
The couple skipped previous court hearings without explanation after being accused of using an invalid credit card to defraud San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito of more than $10,000.
It appeared the Quaids had forfeited a total of $40,000 in bail when they failed to appear for a hearing last week.
But a judge allowed that money to stand as bail Tuesday and freed the two defendants, prosecutor Lee Carter said.

Cheeky Spanish Tradition
Caganers
Barack Obama is up against Queen Elizabeth this year in a centuries-old Christmas tradition in Catalonia, according to the makers of the Spanish region's 'caganer' figurines.
They have been sold in Catalonia around Christmas since the 18th century, when they were placed in nativity scenes in the hope of bringing good luck and a rich harvest.
But they show the personalities with their trousers down in the act of defecating.
The original caganer, which literally translated from Catalan means "the fertilizer", was a man wearing a red and black hat and peasant costume shown performing his biological functions.
It was believed that his fertile deposits in the soil of the nativity scene would bring a rich harvest.

Arnold Stang
Arnold Stang, an actor who appeared alongside Milton Berle and Frank Sinatra and was known for his nerdy looks and distinctive nasal voice, has died. He was 91.
Stang died Sunday of pneumonia at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts, said JoAnne Stang, his wife of 60 years.
Despite often playing goofy characters, Stang was the consummate professional, preparing the same for his biggest roles and the smallest commercials.
The slight and diminutive Stang started his career on the radio as a teenager and never lost his love of the medium.
He played alongside Berle on radio and television in the 1950s, starred as Sinatra's sidekick in the 1955 movie "The Man with the Golden Arm," and was a member of the ensemble comedic cast of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" in 1963.
He voiced cartoons, including the lead character in the 1960s cartoon "Top Cat," and did dozens of commercials, perhaps most notably for the Chunky candy bar.
He appeared in movies alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bill Cosby and continued acting into his 80s, playing a role in the 1993 movie "Dennis the Menace."
Stang invented and mischievously perpetuated a story that he was born and raised in the Boston suburb of Chelsea. But his wife said he was really raised in Brooklyn. He lived in the Boston suburb of Needham for the past decade.
Stang is also survived by son David and daughter Deborah.

Kim Peek
The man who inspired the title character in the Oscar-winning movie "Rain Man" has died.
Kim Peek was 58. His father, Fran, says Peek had a major heart attack Saturday morning and was pronounced dead at a hospital in the Salt Lake City suburb of Murray.
Peek was a savant with a remarkable memory and inspired writer Barry Morrow when he wrote "Rain Man," the 1988 movie that won four Academy Awards.
Fran Peek said his son met Morrow at a convention in the early 1980s and the writer was taken with Peek's knack for retaining everything he heard. Morrow wrote the script, and the movie went on to win Oscars for best film and best actor for Dustin Hoffman, whose repetitive rants about being an excellent driver and the "People's Court" about to start were a hit with moviegoers.
Although the character was technically fictional, Fran Peek said his son was every bit as amazing as Hoffman's portrayal of him. And Kim's true character showed when he toured the world, helping dispel misconceptions about mental disabilities.
In his later years, Peek was classified as a "mega-savant" who was a genius in about 15 different subjects, from history and literature and geography to numbers, sports, music and dates. But his motor skills were limited; he couldn't perform some simple tasks like dressing himself.
NASA scientists had been studying Peek, hoping that technology used to study the effects of space travel on the brain would help explain his mental capabilities.
