Well, either I'm very easy to please, or Santa really did see my
letter. It's not even Christmas yet, & I got just the gift I
wanted. That Christmas elf in human form, DJ BC, has marshalled the
forces of bootleg to produce the 4th SANTASTIC Christmas mashup
collection, SANTASTIC 4. In similar fashion to the previous 3
compilations, this 4th one is finestkind. In 18 tracks by 16 mixers
you'll find all the modern, nostalgic & futuristic Yuletide vibe
that the season requires.
You may like music, & you might cherish mashups, but still harbour slight
doubts about Christmas music. Well, fear no more, these mixers know
their music, their mashups & most of all, their mixing. When you hear
Mojochronic's 'Whoville (Won't Get Yuled Again)' you'll discover
that Christmas music isn't only novelty tunes. Solcofn mixes up a
'Nude Christmas' & that's a good thing here, as long as Santa
doesn't start shedding his parka.
DJ Nono still hasn't recovered from Halloween & creeps you out with
"Scarey Xmas". Cheekyboy transforms my favorite Christmas track with
more beats than one little percussive child could manage in
"Chemical Drummer Boy". DJ BC updates the already wonderful
Tchaikovsky with the addition of roaring rhythms in "Sugar Plum
Fairy Coda (recoda). All through the record, Christmas transmutes, &
transmogrifies through the mixing abilities of Atom, Go Home
Productions, Mr Fab & His Bag O' Heads, & many more worth
hearing. There's even a performed track by San Francisco's Smash Up
Derby, an actual rock group that performs live.
If you are as delighted by this release as I am, you have the extra
bonus of knowing the previous 3 years' collections are still
available, too. Head to
santastic4.com to receive your
gift of SANTASTIC 4, & keep a winter's eye open for the links to the
past SANTASTIC albums. You'll need enough Christmas music to last
until July when the Christmas season starts again.

After moving to San Francisco, the middle-aged New Yorker, Harvey Milk, became a Gay Rights activist and city politician. On his third attempt, he was elected to San Francisco's Board of Supervisors in 1977, making him the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in the USA. The following year, both he and the city's mayor, George Moscone, were shot to death by former city supervisor, Dan White, who blamed his former colleagues for denying White's attempt to rescind his resignation from the board.
Mr. Milk had been the subject of several books and the Academy Award-winning documentary feature, The Times of Harvey Milk (1984); but Milk (2008) is the first fictional feature to explore private aspects of the man's personal life and career.

Roger Ebert is becoming an honorary life member of the Directors Guild of America.
The announcement Tuesday from the top union representing Hollywood filmmakers says Ebert is receiving the honor at the guild's Jan. 31 awards dinner.
"From the blockbuster to the tiny independent film, Roger Ebert has devoted his career to sharing his love of film with generations of moviegoers," says guild President Michael Apted. "In doing so, he's kept directors on their toes for more than 40 years."
As the comedians' reunion tour, Cheech & Chong Light Up America, fires out nationwide, the stoner duo are set to roll into theaters with their own cartoon feature.
"Cheech and Chong's Smokin' Animated Movie" will use the famous comedy bits that appeared on the duo's comedy albums and films. Lou Adler, the music impresario who discovered Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong in the early 1970s and owns their classic library, has sold the animated rights to DVD producer Big Vision Entertainment and Chambers Bros. Entertainment.
"It's great to be doing a movie where Cheech and I never have to get out of bed or be on camera," Chong said.
A collection of photographs of Marilyn Monroe taken for Vogue magazine the year she died has been auctioned in New York for nearly $150,000.
A spokeswoman for Christie's auction house says the 36 photos taken by Bert Stern sold for $146,500 on Tuesday. The pre-sale estimate was $100,000 to $150,000.
Christie's says the photos from a 1962 shoot were the last professional images taken of Monroe before she died that year of a drug overdose. They ran in Vogue instead as a memorial.

A court document filed by Peter Falk's daughter says the Emmy-winning actor is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Catherine Falk is seeking a court's approval for a conservatorship of her 81-year-old father, who she claims no longer recognizes people. A hearing has been scheduled for late January.
Falk is familiar to most audiences as the star of the television series "Columbo," for which he won four Emmys. He was also nominated twice for Academy Awards for movie roles in 1959 and 1960.
The petition filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court states Falk lives in Beverly Hills with his wife and recently had hip surgery and requires constant care.
The federal tribe has spoken: A contaminated monkey skull, termite-infested statues and other African artifacts of the TV show "Survivor" will not be allowed into the U.S.
Officials disclosed Monday that customs inspectors in Houston seized a variety of restricted items that were being shipped to the U.S. in a container belonging to the CBS reality show. Among the items: the hide from an African cat suspected of carrying a dangerous disease, a mandrill skull, civet hides, parrot, poultry and ostrich feathers, bones and cowries shells.
The 17th edition of "Survivor" took place in the West African nation of Gabon, the country from which the container was shipped. The final episode was shown Sunday night.
The imports were seized Nov. 18 out of concern that they were contaminated with pests and disease that could harm U.S. agriculture, according to officials. Civet cats are mongoose-like animals that are a delicacy in China and are suspected of spreading severe acute respiratory syndrome - SARS - to humans. Inspectors also found wooden statues with termites.

Delgo's claim to fame is the poorest opening weekend ever. The movie only made $511,920, according to Box Office Mojo. That's about the same amount Doubt made-only the Meryl Streep vehicle did it in 15 screens and it took Delgo 2,160 to get there. That's no more than two people per showing!
Los Angeles's prestigious Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) could be merged as it wrestles with a funding crisis partially blamed on the recession-hit US economy, according to officials.
Under a plan proposed by the non-profit agency that runs the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), MOCA's board would be absorbed.
MOCA boasts important works by artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein among its permanent collection and is situated in three centers in Los Angeles.
However the museum has suffered deeping financial turmoil in recent years. The New York Times reported earlier this month the facility had spent 44 million dollars of its 50 million dollar endowment.
The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with the child's full name on it by one New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance. Heath Campbell and his wife, Deborah, are upset not only with the decision made by the Greenwich ShopRite, but with an outpouring of angry Internet postings in response to a local newspaper article over the weekend on their flare-up over frosting.
Deborah Campbell, 25, said she phoned in her order last week to the ShopRite. When she told the bakery department she wanted her son's name spelled out, she was told to talk to a supervisor, who denied the request.
The Campbells ultimately got their cake decorated at a Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania, Deborah Campbell said. About 12 people attended the birthday party on Sunday, including several children who were of mixed race, according to Heath Campbell.
The Campbells' other two children also have unusual names: JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell turns 2 in a few months and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell will be 1 in April.
More than 2 trillion tons of land ice in Greenland, Antarctica and Alaska have melted since 2003, according to new NASA satellite data that show the latest signs of what scientists say is global warming.
More than half of the loss of landlocked ice in the past five years has occurred in Greenland, based on measurements of ice weight by NASA's GRACE satellite, said NASA geophysicist Scott Luthcke. The water melting from Greenland in the past five years would fill up about 11 Chesapeake Bays, he said, and the Greenland melt seems to be accelerating.
NASA scientists planned to present their findings Thursday at the American Geophysical Union conference in San Francisco. Luthcke said Greenland figures for the summer of 2008 aren't complete yet, but this year's ice loss, while still significant, won't be as severe as 2007.
The news was better for Alaska. After a precipitous drop in 2005, land ice increased slightly in 2008 because of large winter snowfalls, Luthcke said. Since 2003, when the NASA satellite started taking measurements, Alaska has lost 400 billion tons of land ice.

The National Plastics Center has moved to Syracuse University, which will now hold the nation's largest private collection of artifacts, books and papers related to the history and use of plastics.
Founded in 1982, the centre was located in Leominster, Mass., but had to close its doors this year because of financial troubles.
Syracuse officials said the museum material will be made available to faculty, students and researchers and has potential connections to curriculum in a number of areas, including chemistry, chemical engineering, industrial design, history, environmental science and entrepreneurship.
The holdings include nearly 3,000 books, journals, magazines, newspapers and industry publications as well as papers, business records and manuscripts from plastics companies, plastics-industry entrepreneurs and members of the Plastics Hall of Fame, including the records of Union Products, maker of the iconic pink flamingo lawn ornament, Dean of Libraries Suzanne Thorin said.
