The popular bootlegger Wax Audio (waxaudio.com.au/) made a track using some music associated with author/director/composer David Lynch & it's success inspired him to pursue an entire album of like-minded tracks. Led by The Reborn Identity with Colatron & Linus joining the team, they soon assembled the best home producers out there, & a compilation of tracks was released this week to stunning effect. "Mashed In Plastic" (mashedinplastic.co.uk/) is a fantastically fleshed-out fantasy containing eighteen tracks by ten mixers that will intrigue & satisfy you. The time invested is obvious through the tunes & the presentation of the site. I'm surprised there aren't waitresses dressed as flamingoes serving you drinks on the site. It has all the bells & whistles.
From the early release of the promo video (youtube.com/watch?v=2MiSYN3tns4) to the bonus tracks by Phil Retrospector, Pilchard, Colatron, & The Tony Crackburn Orchestra, you will encounter a fully-realized project that should have been released commercially by a label. This sucker could make money! It's not entirely unheard of for mashups to have the samples cleared & be officially released. Lack of promotion hinders official sales, but there've been some money-makers out there. Go Home Productions, a premiere bootlegger & producer did very nicely with 'Mashed', a label collection released commercially (gohomeproductions.co.uk/mashed/).
Everyone involved in the project is a fave of mine. The Who Boys, G3rst, The Reborn Identity, Totom, RIAA, Voicedude, Neiltomo & the rest are bootleggers whose work I always try to keep up with. They achieve the same high level of likeability with the 'Mashed In Plastic' collection, but with the extra twist of the vibe of David Lynch embedded strongly in every track. No doubt Mr.Lynch himself would find this a compelling listen. From the opening mellowness of Colatron's 'The Voice Of Love Is Crying' to the closing spoken-word ambience of Neltomo's 'This Is David Lynch', the audio journey is satisfying. There's rock, jazz, pop, & more all combined in a finestkind manner by practiced hands with a history of pleasing downloaders.
The web site itself has some very readable content with fine descriptions of the various tracks written in a most Lynchian manner. The art, & extra bits like wallpapers & covers reveals how pervasive, influential & definitive David Lynch's released work has proven to be. The music of his films, records & TV shows gets a large elevation with the addition of artists like The Jackson 5, The Beatles, & other big names to Lynch-related artists like Roy Orbison, Chris Isaak, David Bowie & Julee Cruise. You'll find yourself chain-smoking with a drink in hand completely entranced by the evocative tracks like The Who Boys 'Frank's Here' & RIAA's 'Eraserhead Serenade'.
Are you planning to go to the cinema and see one of the new 'Holiday Season' movies?
A. Yes! I avidly want to go see___________ with___________ (unless I go alone, that is, cuz I need some space or my partner hates what I want to see)...
B. No! I'd rather stay home and watch holiday classic movies and/or college football bowl games on TV. Besides, I'd rather wait until the movies come out on DVD than sit in a jammed packed theater listening to people's stupid cell phone ring tones and their inane conversations (or something like that, haha)...
C. Maybe... It depends on whether the whole 'holiday season' thing starts driving me crazy and I need to escape for a few hours, dagnabbit!... I might go see__________...(but, then again, I might just go to the bar)

The parents of major-league baseball star Bobby Bonilla divorced when he and his siblings were young, but although the children lived with their mother, their father stayed involved in their lives. Each evening, he would stop his car in front of the apartment building where they lived. He would honk his horn and wait until all four of his children showed themselves in a window so that he knew that they were safe at home.

It's E. They even did a Broadway play about it, Sunday in the Park with George, based loosely on a painting by George Seurat. It's the ultimate quantization of light, evoking it's dual nature as wave and particle, but I digress.

Georges Seurat invented the technique known as Pointillism, which uses tiny dots instead of broad strokes to put the paint on the canvas. The individual dots of red, yellow and blue are sucked in through your eyes and mixed up in your head to make his painting seem to glow with a variety of shimmering shades.

Details on official inauguration events are scant so far, though prominent Obama supporters like Winfrey, Bruce Springsteen and Will.i.am are widely expected to be involved.
MTV has said it will host and broadcast the "Be the Change Inaugural Ball," held in conjunction with the volunteerism campaign ServiceNation. The audience will be populated with activist young people in what Stephen Friedman, MTV's general manager, says will be a "celebration of our audience."
The Creative Coalition will hold a gala to be headlined by Elvis Costello. The nonprofit arts and entertainment advocacy group says that attending its party will be Anne Hathaway, Spike Lee, Tim Robbins, Maggie Gyllenhaal and many others.
Dionne Warwick will reportedly host the American Music Inaugural Ball. Lou Gossett Jr. will host the Purple Ball, where Ashley Judd and Patricia Arquette are among the expected guests. And the Human Rights Campaign Foundation will also throw a party with Cyndi Lauper, Melissa Etheridge and others.
Actress Daryl Hannah will sail for the inhospitable South Ocean on Wednesday as part of a campaign to stop Japanese whalers from slaughtering the giant animals, organisers said.
Hannah, best known for her role as a mermaid in the 1984 hit "Splash", will be part of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's annual campaign to find, track and impede the whaling ships.
The film star on Wednesday will join the "Steve Irwin", which departs from the eastern Australian city of Brisbane, for the first week of the voyage.
The "Steve Irwin", named for the late Australian "Crocodile Hunter" who died in 2006 from a stingray barb, is the only vessel to attempt to follow the Japanese whalers on their annual whale hunt this year.

NBC's "Meet the Press" remained on top of the heap of the Sunday public affairs shows in November, but ABC's "This Week With George Judas Stephanopoulos" put in its best November sweep rating in eight years.
November was a heady time for the four public affairs shows, with Election Day and the continuing financial crisis of great interest to viewers. Yet the month looked like many Novembers past: NBC on top by a wide margin, followed by ABC and CBS, with Fox a distant fourth.
Among adults 25-54, "Meet the Press" had a 1.3 rating, compared with ABC's 1.0, CBS' 0.9 and Fox's 0.5, Nielsen Media Research said. NBC, ABC and CBS also have seen double-digit increases in the adults 25-54 demographic compared with last November, but Fox was up only slightly.
Many journalistic organizations are facing staff cutbacks, but a huge grant is helping PBS' "The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer" to increase its reporting.
"NewsHour" will add a production unit to focus on global health issues in the developing world. The three-year, $3.5 million grant is being funded through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Forty to fifty documentary reports on issues like HIV/AIDS, measles and tuberculosis in the developing world will air on the TV program, as well as digitally. There's also an outreach component to the grant.
Liberman Broadcasting has emerged as a scrappy competitor to its rivals Univision and Telemundo, producing 56 hours of original programing in its Burbank, California, studios every week.
Now Liberman -- which owns Spanish-language TV and radio station clusters in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix -- is hoping to build a national network called Estrella TV. Through a combination of station purchases and affiliates, Liberman expects Estrella TV to be in 70 percent of U.S. Hispanic homes by the end of first-quarter 2009.
Nielsen rankings for October put Liberman's Los Angeles TV station fourth among Spanish-language stations in the market for total day ratings, but it came in second on weekdays between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. among Hispanics 18-34 during the October 30-November 9 sweeps period, excluding soccer. Such programs as music/variety show "Estudio 2" and "Trancazo Musical" came in first in key Hispanic demographic groups during their time segments.
On Tuesday - which would have been her 85th birthday - a plaque honoring opera legend Maria Callas was being unveiled at the Manhattan hospital where she came into the world.
Callas was born to Greek parents in 1923 at what was then Flower Hospital. The hospital merged with other institutions over the years and is now the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center.
Callas' mother took her back to Greece. There, she trained and performed before her professional life took her all over the world, including Italy and the U.S. She died in Paris in 1977.
Lawyers for Roman Polanski, a fugitive in France for 30 years because of the notorious sex case involving a 13-year-old girl, filed a request Tuesday to dismiss the charge against him because of prosecutorial and judicial misconduct.
The motion alleges that a documentary about Polanski released earlier this year revealed "a pattern of misconduct and improper communications" between the district attorney's office and the judge in Polanski's case.
He was initially indicted on six felony counts and faced up to life in prison. Instead, he pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and five other counts were dismissed.
Polanski skipped sentencing and fled to France. The judge issued a warrant for his arrest that is still in effect.

Gary Coleman has pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge stemming from a September incident at a bowling alley.
The 40-year-old former star of "Diff'rent Strokes" was ordered to pay a $100 fine in a Payson court Tuesday. He also pleaded no contest to a reckless driving charge, which will be waived if he doesn't have any other violations within a year.
According to court documents, Coleman, his wife and his bodyguard were going bowling in Payson, about 60 miles south of Salt Lake City, when Colt Rushton took a few photos of Coleman with his cell phone camera and took a few more of Coleman's truck in the parking lot. Rushton's lawyer says Coleman's wife took Rushton's cell phone, a scuffle ensued and then Coleman ran into Rushton with his truck as he was backing out of the parking lot.
Singer Boy George will not give evidence at a trial where he is accused of falsely imprisoning a Norwegian male escort by handcuffing him to a wall, his lawyer told Snaresbrook Crown Court in London on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old, being tried under his real name George O'Dowd, denies falsely imprisoning Audun Carlsen at his flat in April last year.
The former Culture Club frontman says he asked Carlsen back after a pornographic photo shoot in January because he suspected him of stealing pictures from his computer.
Carlsen says George handcuffed him to a wall and beat him with a chain because he was angry that he refused to sleep with him when they first met in January.
The chief executive of NASCAR warned on Tuesday that sponsorship revenue would slow in 2009, as the professional stock car racing circuit gets hit by the economic slowdown and hard times in the auto industry.
Brian France told the Reuters Media Summit in New York that the racing circuit has held discussions with some corporate sponsors about either pulling back or withdrawing from their roles completely.
He added that he has held talks with some potential new sponsors, though he declined to name them.
France noted that the economic slowdown is putting pressure on advertising for its television partners, including News Corp's Fox, and has placed on hold any plans for NASCAR to expand to cities like New York, Seattle or Denver.

A message in a bottle tossed into the ocean off Barnegat Bay has turned up in North Carolina - 39 years later. The note was sealed in a Schaefer beer bottle. It was dated Aug. 17, 1969 and read: "If found notify the North Haledon Fire Co. 2."
Mark Ciarmello and his 3-year-old daughter found the bottle along a beach in Corolla, N.C., in October. That's about 400 miles from where it was released.
The Downingtown, Pa., resident said he got on his cell phone, called North Haledon and e-mailed photos of the bottle to the firefighters.
No one is sure who tossed the bottle. But firefighters suspect it was during one of the many fishing trips that they used to take years ago.
Last year, Allan Mueller thinks he saw the elusive ivory-billed woodpecker. The wildlife biologist wants to make sure of it this winter.
Mueller plans to head back into the swamps of eastern Arkansas with a scaled-back search team consisting of 26 volunteers and three expert field biologists.
Searchers will begin their work in the Big Woods on Saturday. The campaign will run through the bird's nesting season in March and April when the ivory-bill is most active, Mueller said.
A human skull will no longer be used in the Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC's) Hamlet in case it distracts the audience, the theatre company said.
The skull of Polish pianist Andre Tchaikowsky was used throughout the play's recent run in Stratford-upon-Avon, but the unusual prop will be dropped when it opens in London's West End, the RSC said.
Audiences in Stratford were unaware the skull in the play belonged to the pianist, who had bequeathed it to the RSC in 1982 for this purpose, a spokeswoman said. But the secret spilled out when actor David Tennant, who plays Hamlet, revealed it in a newspaper interview.
In the Stratford production, Tennant held the skull aloft in the "Alas poor Yorick" scene of the play, fulfilling the dying wish of Mr Tchaikowsky - a Polish Jew who escaped the Holocaust but died of cancer aged 46.
