M Is FOR MASHUP - December 1st, 2010
End Of The Year Mashup Albums
By DJ Useo
Howdy again, folks, here I be with some fine new mashup albums. These are finestkind collections with plenty of aural satisfaction to offer. It's funny. The mashup albums seem so good nowadays, but the response in comments is so lean. Download numbers haven't lessened any, though. My theory is people are so blissed-out after listening they're unable to form sentences, & since 'thumbs-ups' are not visible over the net, response is slim. Still, the bootleg collections continue. Here's the latest batch.-

Latest Useo Thing
DJ Useo - Channel Zee (Experimental Mix) is part 3, the final part of my experimental 'CHANNEL' series.
The first part 'Channel X'
was made to be the strangest & least musical.
The second part 'Channel Y?' (
www.bmbx.org/2010/07/channel-y/ )
was slightly more 'musical'
This third part 'Channel Zee' (
www.bmbx.org/2010/11/channel-zee/ )
is the most musical
of the trio, yet is still far out there when it comes to listenability.
I hope you don't freak out!
Mashup Tip : For true satisfaction, throw your best tracks away before you post them. The audience doesn't deserve them. lmao

Handwritten Lyrics To Auction
Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan's original handwritten lyrics for "The Times They are A-Changin'" are heading for the auction block in New York City. They could sell for an estimated $200,000 to $300,000.
Written in pencil on a sheet of unruled, three-hole notebook paper, the classic 1960s folk protest song was the title track on Dylan's third album. The paper is creased with some small tears and signed "by Bob Dylan."
Sotheby's will offer it for sale on Dec. 10.
Dylan recorded the song in 1963, and that same year performed it at Carnegie Hall. It contains political overtones with lines like, "Come senators, congressmen; Please heed the call."

Welcomes French Copycat
Craig Ferguson
Craig Ferguson uncorked an on-air rant last week after finding out that portions of his "Late Late Show" were being hijacked and copied by a French TV host.
But then on Monday, Ferguson buried the hatchet and introduced America to the boyish cutup known in France simply as Arthur, as he made a surprise guest appearance.
At the top of the CBS show, Arthur was seen solo, wearing a wide grin and greeting the audience.
Ferguson had radiated comedic ire on his Nov. 22 show, taped just hours after he learned on Twitter about Arthur's so-called homage.
"If you're going to steal from a show," Ferguson appealed to Arthur in his self-mocking monologue that night, "what about a GOOD show like 'Lost' or 'The Wire'? Don't steal from THIS show! That's like taking pants from a hobo!"
At the end, Arthur appeared one final time. Both he and Ferguson were outfitted in 1940s-era fedoras and trench coats. As the color in the picture drained to black-and-white, they performed an homage to the film "Casablanca."

Back On Broadway
Billie Joe Armstrong
Billie Joe Armstrong apparently liked his Broadway debut in "American Idiot" - he's signed on to return for 50 performances.
Producers said Tuesday the Green Day frontman will reprise the role of St. Jimmy in the punk rock musical that his songs inspired beginning Jan. 1 and ending Feb. 27 at The St. James Theatre.
Armstrong will appear in the show in three large chunks - Jan. 1-9, Jan. 18-30 and Feb. 10-27. Original Broadway cast member Tony Vincent will end his run as St. Jimmy on Dec. 30.
Having the musical's composer and co-author aboard has already proved a big draw. When Armstrong made his Broadway debut in September for a week, the box-office take was more than $1 million. Last week, the show grossed $600,000.

Surreal Silence For Centenary
Leo Tolstoy
"Deathly" silence fails to bury Tolstoy
MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Russian Orthodox Church refused to rehabilitate him and the state chose to ignore him, but the official silence surrounding the 100th anniversary of Leo Tolstoy's death has not muffled praise or quelled debate.
Unlike the 150th anniversary of writer Anton Chekhov's birth this year -- which prompted an emotional outpouring from President Dmitry Medvedev and spurred a nationwide festival -- the November centenary of one of Russia's most universally acclaimed writers has been met with surreal silence.
Neither Medvedev nor Prime Minister Vladimir Putin mentioned the "War and Peace" author for the actual centenary on November 20th, the Culture Ministry planned no events in his honor and there were no major programs on state television -- Russia's favored outlet for tributes.
"There was a deathly silence...Tolstoy is a reminder of greatness, of humanity and their significance. And that is why we prefer not to remember," popular novelist Dmitry Bykov wrote in business magazine Profil earlier this month.
In a veiled swipe at the government, Bykov added that in today's Russia "not a single law has remained, nor honesty, nor conscience...It is better for today's Russians not to think about this."

Eyes Revival Of Olympic TV Network
USOC
The U.S. Olympic Committee is seeking to revive plans for a cable television network, and plans to start discussions next year with the International Olympic Committee, a top official said on Tuesday.
Scott Blackmun, Chief Executive of the USOC, said at the Reuters Global Media Summit that he also wants to discuss the network with Comcast Corp once it completes the buyout of NBC Universal, a longtime broadcaster of the Games.
An earlier effort by the USOC to create a network was undone by objections from the IOC, which expressed frustration that it had not been consulted on the initial plans.
An Olympic network, if it moves forward, would likely be built around news reports, commentary, interviews, documentaries, movies, and classic Olympic footage.

Disney Hated His Captain Jack Sparrow
Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp's flamboyant portrayal of Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean" was good enough for an Oscar nomination, but the actor says Disney was less than thrilled.
Depp talked about it in an interview with rocker Patti Smith for the January edition of Vanity Fair magazine. Depp said Disney "couldn't stand" his Sparrow and one person there even asked if Sparrow was gay. Depp told the Disney executive "all my characters are gay," and he said that "really made her nervous."
Depp's next role is in the movie "The Tourist" with Angelina Jolie. It opens Dec. 10.

Overhauls Morning Show
CBS News
CBS News abruptly gave "The Early Show" a complete makeover Tuesday, replacing co-hosts Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez and installing its current Saturday anchor team of Chris Wragge and Erica Hill.
The network is also replacing weather forecaster Dave Price with Marysol Castro, formerly of ABC's "Good Morning America" weekend edition, and adding Jeff Glor as the regular news reader.
The new team will start Jan. 3.
There had been little inkling that change was afoot, although the show had changed its executive producer within the past year. That executive, David Friedman, said he believed the new team had the right energy and chemistry to embark on another effort at lifting the show out of third place in the network morning news ratings.

Stalker Back In Jail
Uma Thurman
A man who was previously convicted of stalking actress Uma Thurman and harassing her family for two years was arrested and jailed again last week, police said on Tuesday.
Jack Jordan was arrested at his home in Montgomery County, Maryland as he was researching the Oscar-nominated actress on Google, a police spokeswoman said.
Montgomery County police spokeswoman Blanca Kling said Jordan was arrested on the request of Brooklyn, New York prosecutors where the case originated. He is in custody awaiting extradition to New York.
Jordan was convicted in 2008 of sending harassing e-mails to Thurman's father and brother, loitering for hours on the steps of Thurman's Manhattan apartment and visiting her trailer on the set of the 2006 film "My Super Ex-Girlfriend."

Looking For Cheap Publicity
"Dr." Laura
One of the first subjects Laura Schlessinger (R-Self-Serving) will tackle in depth on her new Sirius XM Radio talk show in the new year is the one that nearly derailed her.
In confirming the exclusive arrangement to bring her talk show to satellite radio beginning Jan, 3, Schlessinger said Monday she intends to introduce roundtable discussions. Within the first three weeks one topic will be race relations and free speech.
When she begins on Sirius XM, expect her to come out swinging against those she perceives as being a threat to the First Amendment protecting free speech, including the Rev. Al Sharpton, Democratic U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller and Media Matters, the organization that spearheaded the attacks against her after her use of the "n-word."
Schlessinger's show on Sirius XM will run live three hours daily with repeats nights and weekends. While there will be about 40 percent less time dedicated to commercials, she still has advertisers, though she would not identify them on Monday.

Refiles Wrongful Death Suit
Joseph Jackson
Michael Jackson's father has refiled a wrongful death lawsuit in state court against the doctor charged in his son's death and added a Las Vegas pharmacy as a defendant.
Joseph Jackson originally filed the suit in federal court, but a judge declined to hear the case and said it should be handled in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The case accuses Dr. Conrad Murray of negligence in administering the anesthetic propofol to Jackson.
It also names Applied Pharmacy Services in Las Vegas, which court records show sold the drug to Murray nearly a month before the singer's death in June 2009. Authorities have said the sale was legal.

$60 Million Clear Channel Contract
Ryan Seacrest
"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest has extended his contract with Clear Channel Communications with by three years, with an eye on developing new content in the digital space, the company said Tuesday.
Some industry pundits had wondered whether Seacrest would reduce his radio commitment when his existing contract expired given his busy producing commitments on such shows as "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."
Instead, he seems to be increasing his commitment in return for more money, agreeing to develop with Clear Channel new radio content for syndication, including digital platforms. Clear Channel and Seacrest will also explore the creation of TV content, a record label, music publishing business and concert series, the company said.
He will also continue to host the daily "On Air With Ryan Seacrest" on KIIS-FM in Los Angeles and host the American Top 40 chart countdown. Additionally, Clear Channel said he will serve as a spokesman and advocate for the firm.

Launching TV Network
WWE
World Wrestling Entertainment Inc plans to launch a cable TV network featuring its hulking wrestlers and scripted storylines in mid-2012 or early 2013, later than it had previously hoped, a top executive said on Tuesday.
WWE Chairman and Chief Executive Vince McMahon said in February that he hoped to have a network up and running in 18 months, implying August 2011.
However, Chief Operating Officer Donna Goldsmith said on Tuesday that it would likely be a year or two beyond that date.
She also reiterated that WWE is leaning toward a network model similar to that instituted by Major League Baseball, where several pay-TV operators own a stake in the venture. That decision has not yet been finalized, she added.

Veteran French Rockers Split
Noir Desir
The veteran French rock band Noir Desir, whose singer Bertrand Cantat was jailed for the manslaughter of his actress girlfriend, has split up, its drummer said Tuesday.
The split comes after guitarist Serge Teyssot-Gay said Monday he was pulling out of the Bordeaux-based group that was formed in the 1980s and went on to become France's top rock band.
Cantat was convicted of beating his actress girlfriend Marie Trintignant to death in a hotel in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in 2003. A Lithuanian court jailed him for eight years, but he was released on parole in 2007.
His ex-wife Krisztina Rady, with whom he had two children, hanged herself at her Bordeaux home in January this year.

To Be Released Online
`Jackass 3.5'
Johnny Knoxville's crew is again following a box-office release with a digital movie of leftovers called "Jackass 3.5."
Producers Paramount Pictures and MTV Films announced Tuesday that "Jackass 3.5" will be released in weekly online installments, with a subsequent feature-length film released digitally in March. Exactly where "Jackass 3.5" will be available wasn't announced.
The footage will feature surplus stunts from "Jackass 3D," which has earned more than $116 million at the box office since it was released in October.
In 2007, "Jackass 2.5" similarly followed "Jackass Number Two." It claimed to be the first broadband movie distributed by a major studio. "Jackass 2.5" was streamed for a week for free by Blockbuster Inc. and was then made available for download and on DVD.

Coffin To Auction
Lee Harvey Oswald
For the JFK-assassination conspiracy junkie who has everything: Lee Harvey Oswald's coffin. Body not included.
A Los Angeles auction house said on Tuesday it would sell the simple pine coffin in which the suspected assassin of President John F. Kennedy was buried for almost 20 years.
The coffin was unearthed in October 1981 after a legal dispute between Oswald's widow, Marina, and his brother, Robert. Marina successfully sought an exhumation to test a conspiracy theory that a lookalike Russian agent had been buried in her husband's place, according to the auction house.
A medical exam showed the badly decomposed body was indeed Oswald's, and he was returned to Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Texas, in a new casket.
The original coffin, which had suffered extensive water damage, is being sold by Baumgardner Funeral Home, the local undertaker which handled the re-internment.

Latest Collapse
Pompeii
A stretch of garden wall ringing an ancient house in Pompeii gave way Tuesday after days of torrential rain, the latest structure to collapse at the popular archaeological site.
Pompeii officials said an inspection found that a 40-foot (12-meter)-long section of wall forming part of the perimeter of a garden area near the House of the Moralist gave way in several points. They said the extreme sogginess of the soil brought down the wall in an area that hasn't been excavated near the house.
A few weeks ago, Italy was embarrassed when a frescoed house, the Schola Armaturarum, where gladiators prepared for combat, was reduced to a pile of stones and dust in seconds. Less than a year ago, another building, the House of the Chaste Lovers, collapsed in Pompeii.
The House of the Moralist wasn't affected by the wall's demise "and isn't at risk for collapse," Pompeii excavations director Antonio Varone said.
