Paul Waldman: After Tuesday, Republicans will lurch even further to the right (Washington Post)
This election has seen some surprises and some things that were absolutely predictable. Few of us would have imagined that Republicans could think they'd be able to get away with suddenly proclaiming themselves the true champions of protections for people with preexisting conditions, for instance. But centering their campaign on racist appeals to fear and hatred? I think we all saw that coming.

There is very little ambiguity about his point. Trump is warning the media that its critical coverage is provoking violence. His proposed remedy is not a cessation of violence but instead a cessation of critical coverage.

Anecdotes
• If you ever see the TV series All in the Family, you will notice the long hair worn by Mike Stivic, played by Rob Reiner. Actually, it's a toupee. Rob Reiner was - and is - as bald as his famous father Carl Reiner, the creator of The Dick Van Dyke Show.
• Albert Schweitzer's hair was unkempt and would not stay brushed. Before a lecture, a man asked him what he should say to introduce him. Mr. Schweitzer replied, "Just say this fellow who looks like a Scottish terrier is Albert Schweitzer."
• Miles Malleson was an actor whose speciality was playing comic old men. In one play, he wore a full wig, underneath which was a bald pate, underneath which was his personal toupee.
• When lieder singer Lotte Lehmann was a child, she had a very thick pigtail, which she put to good purpose by allowing a small friend to grab hold of it and then swinging her in circles.
• At a party screenwriter Denis Norden once asked a woman, "Hey, what happened to that skinny blonde your husband used to be married to?" The woman replied, "I dyed my hair."
• Lycurgus advocated the wearing of long hair by the Spartans, saying, "If you're good-looking, it improves your looks. If you're ugly, it makes you still more frightening."
• When bald comedian Myron Cohen went in for a haircut, his barber told him, "There's one thing you can say for badness - it's neat!"

Last Night
Voted at the neighborhood park. It's a small park with a large parking lot.
Parking there has never been an issue - until today.
Today the parking lot was full, so was the alley and streets. Cars were double and triple parked.
It's the first time I ever experienced a sense of joy when seeing a full parking lot.
Stand Up for Heroes
Bruce, Jon and Seth
Stand Up for Heroes brought the funny, the serious, and some music on Monday night to the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The evening, which serves as the kick off to Carolines on Broadway's New York Comedy Festival, included stand-up from Seth Meyers, Jimmy Carr, Jim Gaffigan, and Jon Stewart, as well as a performances by Bruce Springsteen and Eric Church.
Now in its 12th year, the event benefits the Bob Woodruff Foundation, a veterans support organization started by journalist Bob Woodruffand his wife, Lee, after he was wounded in Iraq.
Stewart provided the most political humor of the night. He opened by saying he was glad to see all the service people there because, "I thought you'd be at the border."
After riffing about the fear-mongering surrounding the migrant caravan, how easy it is to obtain an AR-15 ("it's harder to adopt a cat"), and some direct Trump jokes, he did a lengthy, often serious bit about how "political correctness" actually really means not using language that is wounding to others. While his story revolved around him learning how hurtful he had been by using "f--t" as a teen and "retarded" as a comedian, it was also an incisive commentary on a president and his followers who do not seem to understand the power of hateful language.

Hollywood Walk O' Fame
Michael Douglas
Earlier today, the 74-year-old attended his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony with his family by his side, including his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, his son Cameron Douglas, and his father, actor Kirk Douglas. According to People, Michael has been working in Hollywood for over five decades, following in the footsteps of his famous father, and he has finally earned a star.
During his heartfelt speech, Douglas made sure to thank all of the influential people in his life, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, with whom he shares two children, Dylan and Carys. As an introduction, Douglas called Catherine the "love of my life" before telling those in attendance how important she is to him.
Douglas also took time to speak about his father, the great Kirk Douglas. The 101-year-old attended the ceremony in a wheelchair, sporting a grey suit along with a pink dress shirt. When speaking about his father, Michael was visibly emotional and it was clear that he was touched that he was able to be in attendance.
"My dad is here. In a month, Kirk will be 102 years old!" Douglas gushed. "It means so much to me, Dad, that you're here today. Thank you for your advice, inspiration, and I'll say it simply and with all my heart: I'm so proud to be your son."
Also in attendance at the ceremony was a few close friends of Douglas' including pal Andy Garcia as well as Jane Fonda and Eric McCormack. Douglas also took time to thank Fonda for being there to support him. And not only did he thank Fonda for a great friendship over the years, he also applauded her for a great work ethic.

Revival Movie
Deadwood
12 years after the show wrapped up, Deadwood's revival movie has finally started shooting.
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, most of the cast have returned for the film.
That includes: Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, Paula Malcomson, John Hawkes, Anna Gunn, W Earl Brown, Dayton Callie, Brad Dourif, Robin Weigert, William Sanderson, Kim Dickens and Gerald McRaney.
Behind the camera, Daniel Minahan will direct the film after helming four episodes of the show, while creator David Milch has written the script.
HBO is hoping for a spring 2019 release, which would make it a pretty quick turnaround, so we'll see how that pans out.

China Trademarks
Ivanka
US first daughter and presidential advisor Ivanka Trump is facing ethics questions after she was granted Chinese trademark approvals for her brands in the midst of a trade war her father is leading against Beijing.
Ivanka Trump Marks LLC received preliminary approval for 16 new trademarks in October, according to Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which on Monday released documents about the issue and said the approvals raised questions.
Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, both serve as advisors to President-for-now Donald Trump (R-Yeti Pubes), and it is not the first time concerns over the potential conflict of interest with her business have been raised.
"Since she has retained her foreign trademarks, the public will continue to have to ask whether President Trump has made foreign policy decisions in the interest of his and his family's businesses," said Caroline Zhang, social media manager for the nonprofit group. Zhang said.
The trademarks cover such goods as handbags, umbrellas, shower caps and swimsuits, according to the documents.

'Terribly Sorry'
Sinéad O'Connor
Sinéad O'Connor was outspoken on Tuesday, even for her.
Weeks after announcing her conversion to Islam and revealing she'd changed her name to Shuhada' Davitt, the Irish singer posted a string of tweets lashing out at non-Muslims and defending women.
O'Connor, 51, complained in later posts about President Trump, and she wondered if Twitter would ban her statements when it allowed Trump to "spew the satanic filth even on my country."
O'Conner regularly shares her thoughts on current affairs as well as her personal issues, such as having survived "childhood sexual violence" and sexual assault as an adult.
O'Connor has said in the past that she struggles with mental health issues.
