I'm having a wonderful online Halloween season, full of fright, & seasonal music. It's a welcome respite from misery in my offline life. Death is perfect as a scary device in entertainment, but the actual thing totally sucks. May your Samhain experience be only of the mock serious nature.
In addition to the live set, I worked up a 60s Garage Rock Halloween set that took me forever to collect the tracks for. I think I chose cuts from among 49 different cd compilations. Good fun for me as I enjoyed the experience. I played many a rejected track along the way, so It took me 4 different occasions to finish the task. No word yet on what anyone thinks of the set, but I love it! Hosted as usual by the fine folks at
BMBX mixes & mixtapes.

There's so much Halloween music this year. Many DJ Sets, including past year re-posts. I'm going to be enjoying the new all-mashup Halloween show from Kopimi Radio with Mazanga Von Badman. It'll be aired live Wednesday the 28th, & then posted afterwards, as usual for this excellent twice-weekly show. Listen for some Useo tracks, & maybe even a Halloween skit!
Link will be posted here after.

I must also mention this next non-Halloween matter to you, because I'm so hepped! Last week I happened upon a rare instrumental version of a song by the 60's band, The Zakary Thaks. Imagine my delight at getting to mix with such a personal fave song! The first a capella I tried was from Tenacious D, & did it ever work great! I sat on the finished track a couple days, & played it for a few friends before I decided to post it. Then I got around to posting it very late last Saturday night.
The initial response was quite good for a mashup of its style. 33 plays in only a few hours. But by Sunday, it was apparent that something big was happening, as the listens swelled to approx. 3000! Holy Sneck! Today is Monday, ( as I write this ) & the current listener total is now 5105. Not bad for just over one day. Pardon my 'bragging', but this is a big deal for me. I wonder if the Jack Black connection is whats making the difference? See what you think.

Hobgoblin is a term typically applied in folktales to describe a mischievous spirit. Shakespeare identifies the character of Puck in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream as a hobgoblin.
The term "hobgoblin" was at first two words Hob Goblin, with Hob being the first name, and Goblin being a defining surname. One interpretation derives "hob" from the Welsh, signifying "hearth", and therefore, a household fairy. The earliest instance of the word can be traced to around 1530, although it was likely in use for some time prior to that.
"Hob" is simply a rustic name for the countryside goblin, "a piece of rude familiarity to cover up uncertainty or fear". "Hob" is generally explained as a nickname for "Robert".

Was trying to be seasonal, but never looked at the
what the wiki said about Puck, so gonna call this one a can o' worms.
Puck, also known as Robin Goodfellow, is a character in William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream that was based on the ancient figure in English mythology, also called Puck.
Puck is a clever, mischievous elf or sprite that personifies the wise knave. In the play, Shakespeare introduces Puck as the "shrewd and knavish sprite" and "that merry wanderer of the night" in some scenes it would seem that he is longing for freedom and he is also a jester to Oberon, the fairy king. Puck and Bottom are the only two characters who interact and progress the three central stories in the whole play; Puck is the one who is first introduced in the fairies' story and creates the drama of the lovers' story by breaking up a young couple lost in an enchanted forest, as well as by placing the ass on Bottom's head in his story. Similarly, Bottom is performing in a play in his story intending it to be presented in the lovers' story as well as interacting with Titania in the fairies' story.

Last day in NYC. Sigh. It's been fun and a real gastronomic experience as well. Mostly I love spending time with my daughter and will miss that the most. The crowded trains and streets at rush hour, not so much.

That shrewd and knavish sprite call'd Robin Goodfellow is Puck. Fuckity Fuck! Hobglobin amuck!
Lois Of The Lost Souls answered:
According to Wiki: In Celtic folklore, Puck is a mischievous nature sprite, demon, or fairy. So I'm going with, "Shakespeare's Puck was a spritely, gay demon", and not just because the play had a character named "Bottom" who had an ass on both ends. But, it did.

A painting depicting Batman that pop artist Mel Ramos traded for a stack of comic books more than a half-century ago is expected to bring more than $100,000 at auction.
The 1962 painting titled "A Sinister Figure Lurks in the Dark" will be offered by Heritage Auctions Wednesday in New York City. Heritage says Bill Steinfelt of California is offering up the painting, which he's had ever since his 1962 trade with the then-undiscovered artist.
Leon Benrimon, Heritage's New York director of modern and contemporary art, says the painting is one of around 50 works Ramos did early in his career of comic book characters and superheroes. He says the works are widely considered to be Ramos' breakout series.
Embattled monarch butterflies faced an extra hurdle in this year's migration; torrential winds and rain cause by Hurricane Patricia which crashed into Mexico on Friday.
As a result, the monarchs, unique among butterflies for the regularity and breadth of their annual migration, diverted from their usual route and found refuge in ravines in Nuevo Leon state in northern Mexico, conservation authorities said on Monday.
Patricia, one of the most powerful storms on record packing 165 mph (266 kph) winds, carved a swathe through relatively remote parts of rural Mexico last week.
"When they started to feel the humidity from the west, the push from the Pacific with the wind and humidity from Patricia, the Monarchs moved their route east," Gloria Tavera, a regional head of the National Commission for Natural Protected Areas (Conanp), said.
Tavera added that the butterflies, which migrate thousands of miles from Mexico, across the United States to Canada, and then back again, will take up their usual route again when the climate returns to normal.
It may seem straight out of "Star Trek," but it's real: Scientists have created a sonic "tractor beam" that can pull, push and pirouette objects that levitate in thin air.
The sonic tractor beam relies on a precisely timed sequence of sound waves that create a region of low pressure that traps tiny objects that can then be manipulated solely by sound waves, the scientists said in a new study.
Though the new demonstration was just a proof of concept, the same technique could be adapted to remotely manipulate cells inside the human body or target the release of medicine locked in acoustically activated drug capsules, said study co-author Bruce Drinkwater, a mechanical engineer at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
The principle behind the new system is simple: Sound waves, which are waves of high and low pressure that travel through a medium such as air, produce force.

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has stepped into the political ring, firmly backing Donald Trump (R-Pendejo) in the billionaire tycoon's bid for the White House in 2016.
Tyson issued his endorsement late Monday on HuffPost Live, saying he would like to see a business-minded commander in chief after eight years of President Barack Obama.
"He should be president of the United States, that's what he should be," Tyson said when asked his opinion of Trump.
The two celebrity figures have known each other for decades.
Trump hosted the title bout -- all 91 seconds of it -- between a victorious Mike Tyson and Michael Spinks in Atlantic City in 1988. He has also served as a financial advisor for the boxer, according to the New York Times.
Former rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight and comedian Katt Williams pleaded not guilty Tuesday to robbery charges filed against them after a celebrity photographer accused them of taking her camera last year.
The pair appeared briefly in a Los Angeles courtroom Tuesday and entered the pleas, which needed to be re-entered because a judge determined two weeks ago that they should stand trial for the September 2014 incident in Beverly Hills.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Coen on Tuesday admonished Knight because the Death Row Records co-founder had held up a sign conveying a happy birthday message to his son for cameras during his last court appearance two weeks ago.
"If he does it again, I will shackle his hands to a chair," Coen said. Knight, 50, acknowledged he understood the judge's warning.
Coen has taken a hard line with Knight, who had a series of medical episodes in court and refused to leave his cell for one hearing, prompting the judge to sign an order to have him forcibly brought to hearings if necessary.
A Peruvian court sentenced a Catholic priest to 35 years in prison on Tuesday for repeatedly raping a boy in the school where he was chaplain - one of the few times Peru has jailed clergy accused of sex abuse.
The court found that Waldir Perez used his position as priest and chaplain at a private school in a poor district to abuse the boy between July 2010 and April 2012.
The boy was 10 years old when Perez first sexually assaulted him, the criminal chamber of Peru's Supreme Court said in a statement.
Perez, who must also pay the victim 8,000 soles ($2,439) in reparations, confessed to the crimes, the court said. Medical and psychological tests also backed up the boy's testimony.
Pope Francis has vowed to hold all sex abusers in the Church accountable. But victims say he has still not made the changes needed to protect children and punish offenders.

Ten years ago, when she was 75 years old, Doris Payne swore she was done with a lifetime of pilfering jewels across two continents. Several arrests later, in 2013, she said again that she was leaving that life behind.
Police say Payne, now 85, is at it again: She was recently arrested and charged with pocketing a $690 pair of earrings from a Saks Fifth Avenue department store at a mall in Atlanta's upscale Buckhead neighborhood.
Payne is said to have committed countless thefts over six decades in the U.S. and Europe and has discussed her exploits in media interviews over the years.
A store security guard watching surveillance video saw Payne enter a Christian Dior boutique inside the department store and take the earrings from a standing shelf before quickly leaving, the police report says. She was arrested in the mall, and the earrings were found in her pocket, the report says.
She faces a charge of theft by shoplifting and was booked into the Fulton County jail. She is also wanted on a warrant for a similar offense by the sheriff's office in Mecklenberg County, North Carolina, and will face extradition, police said.

Last week, the LGBT advocacy groups Human Rights Campaign and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) released model legislation for state lawmakers looking to ban licensed medical health professionals from practicing conversion therapy on LGBT youths.
Just days before the sample legislation was released, the Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration issued a report concluding that there is no credible research to support the idea that gender identity or sexual orientation can be altered through cognitive or behavioral therapy, and that such attempts to intervene in an adolescent's sexual orientation, gender identity or expression "are coercive, can be harmful, and should not be part of behavioral health treatment."
The report's recommendations echoed a call made in April by President Obama to end conversion therapy for minors following the widely reported suicide of transgender teenager Leelah Alcorn. In a note posted on Alcorn's Tumblr, the 17-year-old, who was born a boy, wrote that her parents rejected her transgender identity and sent her to a religious therapist who sought to change her.
"In 2015, you'd think that by now, if we've got marriage equality we'd at least have a society that's safe for our kids," said Samantha Ames, an NCLR staff attorney and coordinator for the #BornPerfect Campaign, which is working to get laws against conversion therapy passed in all 50 states.
Three years ago, NCLR teamed up with then-California State Sen. Ted Lieu and, with the help of mental health professionals and associations, drafted the first bill of its kind banning licensed mental health practitioners from practicing conversion therapy on minors in the state of California. Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill into law in September 2012, and since then, NCLR has helped get similar laws passed in New Jersey, Illinois, Oregon and Washington, D.C., and bills were introduced by lawmakers in at least fifteen other states.
