"Thank you all for digging up this year's Monster Mashup From the Crypt! The running tradition of Monster Mashup has been a mainstay of the mashup community for 15 years. This album has always been a reflection of the mashup world's ever evolving styles over the years and has included many different takes on what makes a Monster Mashup.
For some, it's the perfect Halloween party track. For others, it's a way of experimenting with new techniques to create an atmospheric and spooky sound. But you can always count on a wide variety for whatever your tastes are as well as something new to enjoy.
We at Monster Mashup want to thank all of the DJ's and producers for sharing their fine work, to thank AtoZ for lending tracks from his project "The Fright Album", to thank Stevo in Yr Stereo for the amazing artwork as well as featuring Monster Mashup on Nightmare City Halloween, and to thank DJ Useo for his fine work on mastering the spookiest sounds and for his continued support. Nails Midterms Campaign Message
Stephen King
Horror novelist Stephen King boiled down President-for-now Donald Trump's (R-Get A Haircut) campaign message for the November midterms to just two words on Twitter Monday night.
And they are: "Be afraid."
King, who on Sunday bashed Trump for his latest baseless attack on immigrants, also coined his own campaign message to counter Trump's fearmongering pitch to vote Republican.
"Be brave," he wrote.
The bestselling writer's tweet was well received online.

Passes Beatles
Drake
With help from Bad Bunny, Drake hopped over The Beatles for a Billboard Hot 100 chart record.
As previously reported, Bad Bunny's "MIA," featuring Drake, launched at No. 5 on the Hot 100 (dated Oct. 27). The song marks Drake's 12th top 10 of 2018, lifting him over The Beatles for the most top 10s by any act in a single year: The Beatles banked 11 in their breakout year, 1964.
(For the record, neither act had any holdover top 10s from the prior year, as all 12 of Drake's 2018 top 10s debuted this year, just as all 11 of The Beatles' 1964 top 10s debuted that year.)
The feat makes another single-year record for Drake, who, with a 29th week at No. 1 this year, passed Usher for the most time on top in any January-December span, dating to the Hot 100's Aug. 4, 1958, inception.
Not that The Beatles relinquish all records from the year of Beatlemania: Their six No. 1s in 1964 remain a single-year best, as do their 10 top five hits that year.

Sues Nicki Minaj
Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman has sued Nicki Minaj for copyright infringement, TMZreports and Pitchfork can confirm. The suit, obtained by Pitchfork, concerns "Sorry," Nicki's unreleased track with Nas that interpolates Chapman's "Baby Can I Hold You." In the suit, Chapman claims that Nicki's song "incorporates the lyrics and vocal melody of ["Baby Can I Hold You"], its most recognizable and memorable parts." And that Nicki used "these parts of ["Baby Can I Hold You"] without first seeking the authorization to do so." In addition, the suit states that Champan's track's "lyrics and vocal melody comprise approximately half of ["Sorry"], and are easily recognizable and identifiable as Chapman's."
Chapman is suing Nicki for damages and an order to prevent Nicki and her team from releasing "Sorry." Pitchfork has contacted representatives for Tracy Chapman and Nicki Minaj.
Shortly before the release of her new album Queen, Nicki Minaj publicly asked Tracy Chapman to clear a sample. Nicki later tweeted "Sis said no," possibly referring to Chapman denying clearance. (Nicki has since deleted the tweet.) According to TMZ and the lawsuit, Nicki's team "made multiple requests" in June to license "Baby Can I Hold You" and were consistently denied.
On August 11, Funkmaster Flex premiered Nicki's "Sorry," which has since been removed, although leaks and rips are available to hear.

No Clowns Allowed
Oak Park, Michigan
If you plan to attend the Boo Bash in the Detroit suburb of Oak Park on Halloween, you can be a ghost, goblin, zombie, vampire or any other character that you wish, but you can't be a clown.
City officials have banned clown costumes because they are too scary.
The annual Boo Bash is held at the city's community center. The city's public invitation invites people to "enjoy cider and donuts" at the trick-or-treating event. Kids are invited to wear their favorite costume, but the invitation says "clown costumes are not allowed."
The Oakland County Times got the following explanation from the city's recreation director:
"This event is centered around young children," Laurie Stasiak said in an email to the newspaper. "In the past few years many clown costumes have been given a very scary and evil look. Many scary and horror movies are centered around these types of characters. About 3 years [ago] there were national incidents in the news were people were dressing up as clowns and scaring people and in some cases assaulting them. Many people have phobias and anxiety about clowns. It's because of this that we asked people not to dress up as clowns for this community event."

Yale Law School
Graffiti
Some of the powerful senate testimony of Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, has appeared in the form of graffiti posted at the university where the judge studied.
Pictures posted on social media of the Sterling Law building at Yale University's campus in New Haven, Connecticut, showed graffiti on the entryway that read: "Indelible in the hippocampus is the laughter…".
The words were taken from Ms Ford's testimony last month before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which was considering Donald Trump's nomination for the Supreme Court. Ms Ford was among at least three women to accuse the judge of sexual misconduct or sexual assault. He denied all the allegations.
One of the students who photographed the graffiti, told the news site: "Something about the permanence of paint speaks to how deeply betrayed and disappointed people feel."
She added: "There's still a lot of anger and disappointment in the halls of [Yale Law]. I think in particular, a lot of female students feel very fundamentally betrayed. But also very determined to change things for the better."

Fracking Wastewater Found In Shells
Freshwater Mussels
Elevated concentrations of strontium, an element associated with oil and gas wastewaters, have accumulated in the shells of freshwater mussels downstream from fracking wastewater disposal sites, according to researchers from Penn State and Union College.
"Freshwater mussels filter water and when they grow a hard shell, the shell material records some of the water quality with time," said Nathaniel Warner, assistant professor of environmental engineering at Penn State. "Like tree rings, you can count back the seasons and the years in their shell and get a good idea of the quality and chemical composition of the water during specific periods of time."
In 2011, it was discovered that despite treatment, water and sediment downstream from fracking wastewater disposal sites still contained fracking chemicals and had become radioactive. In turn, drinking water was contaminated and aquatic life, such as the freshwater mussel, was dying. In response, Pennsylvania requested that wastewater treatment plants not treat and release water from unconventional oil and gas drilling, such as the Marcellus shale. As a result, the industry turned to recycling most of its wastewater. However, researchers are still uncovering the long-lasting effects, especially during the three-year boom between 2008 and 2011, when more than 2.9 billion liters of wastewater were released into Pennsylvania's waterways.
The researchers began by collecting freshwater mussels from the Alleghany River, both 100 meters (328 feet) upstream and 1 to 2 kilometers (0.6 to 1.2 miles) downstream of a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System-permitted wastewater disposal facility in Warren, Pennsylvania, as well as mussels from two other rivers -- the Juniata and Delaware -- that had no reported history of oil and gas discharge.
What the team found was significantly elevated concentrations of strontium in the shells of the freshwater mussels collected downstream of the facility, whereas the shells collected upstream and from the Juniata and Delaware Rivers showed little variability and no trends over time.

Hope To Swap A Copy
Easter Islander
For 150 years, the British Museum has housed one of the iconic, heavy-browed stone figures that Chile's Easter Island is famous for.
Now the islanders are hoping desperately to get it back. They plan to build a copy of the four-ton monolith and, potentially swap it for the real thing.
The statue, known as a "moai" and named the Hoa Hakananai'a, is one of hundreds originally found on the island. Carved by Polynesian colonizers somewhere between the 13th and 16th centuries, each of the big-headed figures was considered to represent tribal leaders or deified ancestors.
About a dozen have been removed from the island over the years. Now Camilo Rapu, president of the island's Ma'u Henua community, said it's time Hoa Hakananai'a was returned.
The Ma'u Henua community, with Chilean government support, launched a campaign in August to persuade the British Museum and Queen Elizabeth II to return the famous moai -- in exchange for an exact replica to be carved on Easter Island.

World's Oldest Intact Shipwreck Discovered
Black Sea
Researchers have discovered the world's oldest intact shipwreck in the depths of the Black Sea, where it has lain untouched for over 2,400 years.
The 23-metre vessel is thought to be an ancient Greek trading ship and resembles a design previously only seen on pottery from the era including the "Siren Vase", currently on display in the British Museum.
It was discovered just over a mile beneath the water close to the coast of Bulgaria by the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project (MAP), an international group of archaeologists, scientists and marine surveyors.
Researchers said the oxygen-free water had helped to preserve the material.
Other discoveries include Roman trading ships and a 17th century Cossack raiding fleet.
