There are few holidays more celebrated in the bootleg world than Halloween, & this year is no exception. Cheekyboy has accepted again the challenge of corraling a posse of mashers & successfully cajoled them into giving him a enough scary tracks to fill a new album. Following the success of past Halloween comps like last years' "Mashing Pumpkins", & the trio of comps in the "Monster Mash-up" series comes the new "Night Of The Living Monster Mash-up". With gory sewn-together tracks by DJ BC, Cheekyboy, Mr. Fab & His Bag O' Heads, King.Of.Pants & more otherwordly bootleggers, this record has all the necessary elements to chill your soul, & in most cases you can dance to it.
You can see the video to Cheekyboy's track "Doomed Man's Party (Oingo Boingo vs Does It Offend You Yeah?)
here at youtube -
youtube.com/watch?v=DNmvng3Anrg With it's tribute cut-up job to the classic bad horror flick "Plan 9 From Outer Space" juxtaposed to Cheekyboy's fantastic bootleg version of the Oingo Boingo classic, this is a vid to link all your pals to. It's much scarier than Cheekyboy's "Will Smith vs The Beegees", that is, unless you're into punk rock, in which case there's nawt much scarier.
The playlist alone is a wonderful melange of horror wordings, & grants much insight into the allure of the frightening holiday's appeal to bootleggers -
MR FAB AND HIS BAG O'HEADS - EL PSYCHO WATUSI
DJ BC - PLEASED TO MEET YOU IM THE DEVIL (ROLLING STONES VS 666 VS VARIOUS)

SHYBOY - STILL A THRILLER (JODY WATLEY VS MICHAEL JACKSON)
A few of the chappees involved stopped gnawing on a carcass long enough to provide me with some pertinent comments.
"The great thing about Halloween is throwing a costume party and playing the mixes that everyone contributes for the Halloween CD. Every year the songs keep getting better and better, and this year's CD is the best so far." -- DJ Engineer
"I have been into all sorts of creepy shit since I was a kid. Should have been a goth really but I didn't want to hang around on the bench of doom in southend High Street.
The best thing about the Monster Mashup CD's is that every year they evolve into something different. Its getting harder and harder to find tracks that are not ghostbusters or thriller! This year I was really pleased with all the great mashups that were submitted for the CD! They are all unique takes on classic halloween tracks and very original. It is an honour to have another Mr Fab and his bag o'heads track on there too. It wouldnt be halloween without them!!" --Cheekyboy
"If you're like me, you want it a little spooky all year long, so why wait 'til the 31st? Get creepy NOW! with this collection, the fifth annual international mashup/sound-collage various artists fest compiled by England's DJ Cheekyboy.Disclosure: I'm one of the mix-ologists involved in this big ol' heap of '60s garage rock, horror film dialogue & soundtracks, candy, lesbianism, satanism, hissy old 78s, mambos, boomin' beats, kiddie records, spooky sound bites and fx. And, of course, Bobby 'Boris' Pickett.Listen to...the whole album."--Mr.Fab
And here's an actual unsolicited response from a formerly-living listener.-
"Been listening to those Monster Mash-ups for awhile ... this year's might be the best yet (though I missed Mashing Pumpkins ... getting it now). Big thanks to all DJs who contributed ... you are very, very creative." - Dr. NoNamo
If that doesn't convince you to sample it, you must be dead.Wait...!? You are?!! AUUUGGGHH!!!

ROGER COHEN: Vive la Dépression! (nytimes.com)
With plumbers figuring in French and American votes, getting back to basics is in vogue. A relief from sophistication is overdue. It's time to look forward to the Depression.
Paul Krugman: Let's Get Fiscal (nytimes.com)
To get out of the economic slump, the next president should increase government spending and put the concerns about the budget deficit on hold.
Andrew Tobias: What Does It Say? (andrewtobias.com)
What does it say to moderate Republicans that Colin Powell joins Susan Eisenhower, Julie Nixon Eisenhower, and such other lifelong Republican voters as William F. Buckley Jr. scion Chris Buckley, and former National Review publisher Wick Allison, in endorsing Senator Obama?
Roger Ebert: The candidate as rabble-rouser
Sarah Palin seems giddy with her newfound power as a rabble-rouser. She's using her charm to stir crowds of supporters toward hate. Have you been listening? What frightens me is that she is inciting to violence, which is a felony. Why do I say this? Because supporters have been videotaped at her rallies, screaming "kill him!" "traitor!" "off with his head!" and "terrorist!" At one rally, they started screaming at an African-American TV cameraman, using the n-word. The Secret Service is investigating some of these threats.
Roger Ebert: "ENRON: THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM" (3 1/2 stars; from 2005)
This is not a political documentary. It is a crime story. No matter what your politics, "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" will make you mad. It tells the story of how Enron rose to become the seventh largest corporation in America with what was essentially a Ponzi scheme, and in its last days looted the retirement funds of its employees to buy a little more time.
Philip Meyer: The Elite Newspaper of the Future (ajr.org)
A smaller, less frequently published version packed with analysis and investigative reporting and aimed at well-educated news junkies that may well be a smart survival strategy for the beleaguered old print product.
Iain Pattinson: The joke's on me (guardian.co.uk)
Humphrey Lyttelton was a born comedian - but even he had a script. Iain Pattinson the man who wrote the gags for "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue," recalls his razor-sharp wit.
Kate O'Hare: Robert Forster of 'Heroes' speaks - but he won't spill (Zap2it.com)
Arthur Petrelli may be flat on his back in a hospital bed, only able to speak by using some sort of mental telepathy or appearing in the prophetic dreams of Company honcho Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose), but on the "Heroes" set in August, actor Robert Forster is upright and speaking normally.
How much time lapsed between Valentina Tereshkova, the First Woman in Space, and

mj was first, and correct, with:
Odd markers for me
Valentina took off in the 60s. I saw films of Ms Ride after I got married and before I moved into my current residence. That would put her flight in the 80s. I'm going D.
Alan J responded:
D 20 years, 2 days
Charlie replied:
Once you've been in space, you appreciate how small and fragile the Earth is.
~Valentina Tereshkova
I haven't found a photo of Ride and Tereshkova together, and don't know if they've ever met. In any case Tereshkova (b. March 6, 1937) first flew on June 16, 1963, and Ride (b. May 26, 1951) on June 18, 1983, so in my reference frame, at least, the answer is
D 20 years, 2 days
and Tereshkova is 14 years, 2 months, and 20 days older than Ride.
They apparently autographed the same envelope, however.
Adam in NoHo replied:
Based on my shockingly inadequate knowledge of human space exploration
(though I can give you a complete future history of both Star Trek AND
Ghost in the Shell), I'm guessing D- 20 yrs, 2 days.
~ Tony In Philly replied:
D: 20 Years, 2 days
Sally said:

Sally Ride, served as a mission specialist aboard Space Shuttle Challenger in 1983.
Hummmmm, I'd say the correct reply would be: (D) 20 years, 2 days.
PS: In reference to B2BB's Poll replies - really liked all of his answers this week! That being said; ya gotta love that DannyD... (You KNOW I do, Mr Dan!) :)
Vic in AK responded:

I saw an old friend on the Daily Show last night, she is Dianne Daniels Keller, the sitting Mayor of Wasilla. I had shared an office with her when we both worked at Anchorage Community Mental Health (I THINK I worked there and wasn't just being delusional and was just a patient there)
She married a feller from Easthampton Massachusetts who although I don't remember him ,used to come to parties at my place in Westfield,Ma. years before either of us moved to the Great Land.
When she decided to Marry him she told me she was just going to get a sheet cake and grab some ready made food from Carrs.(a REAL Wasilla wedding)
I told her as a gift I would cater her wedding and really did it up, sure she got the grub she originally wanted(Meatballs, Beenie Weenie, cabbage rolls) But I threw in some Cornish hens A roast beef carving station and Ratatouille and a bunch of those fancy assed carved veggie flowers and crap. I also made a tripple tiered Black Forrest cake (made the mistake of asking her what kind she preffered) .The wedding was in the week of Fall and held at the Palmer Train Station, decorated with all kindsa Birch leaves and stuffs like that so I covered the cake with a white chocolate frosting and scraped it to look like Birch bark and put some silk Birch leaves all around it and piped 250 sky blue roses to to it all off.
I missed the service because I was busy cooking and serving but made up for it by jumping her sister Charli Daniels (kinda looked like the red-neck singer but shaved..a little)
Here's the link to the video of Mayor Keller.
Her sister introduced me to her boss, one Mark Begich who is now a friend of mine and the Mayor of Anchorage, he is the son of missing state representative Nick Begich ( who conspiracy theorists blame his dissapearance on the fact that he was sharing a small plane with congressman Hale Boggs of Louisiana who as a member of the Warren Commision refused to accept the "Lone Gunman" argument) Nick vanished during the Senate election between him and Don Young ,he ended up beating Don Young but since he was dissapeared never took office.
Mark is now running against Ted (Gimme MORE) Stevens and leads him in the polls. I hope this means a "Blue" Alaska is in our future.
Here's some vidjas of people singing about Sarah

Yesterday, the story about the UFO's in the 1950's, interesting, and raises more than a few questions. No disrespect intended to the pilot who came forward, but, why wait so long to divulge this? Also, did not the U.S. government, through CIA operatives, test LSD on unsuspecting military personnel in the 1950's? The closing line is a classic: " After the alert, a shadowy figure told Torres he must never talk about the incident and he duly kept silent for more than 30 years". Why is it always a shadowy figure, who makes the threat? Why cant it be a brightly dressed individual in the sunshine?

The United States and Israel, despite their democratic credentials, fall down badly in their respect for press freedoms in conflict zones, a media group said on Wednesday.
Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said the U.S. had slipped to 119th in respect of press freedoms outside its own territory in an annual ranking of more than 160 countries, from a joint ranking at 111 in its previous annual report.
Both Israel and the United States moved up the table for 2008 with regard to respect of press freedoms at home.
It said countries in the top 20 -- led by Iceland at No. 1 -- had in common that all were parliamentary democracies and none were involved in conflict beyond their borders.

The clay molds are a crucial step in the up to 6-month-long figure creation process. The full wax figures will be unveiled in all three U.S. Madame Tussauds attractions
Actress Scarlett Johansson will co-host the 2008 Nobel Peace Concert on Dec. 11 in honor of this year's laureate, Finnish peace mediator and former President Martti Ahtisaari, organizers said Monday.
The other co-host will be announced in coming weeks, said a statement given to The Associated Press ahead of its official release. Last year's show was hosted by Uma Thurman and Kevin Spacey.
Johansson, 23, will host a program headlined by Diana Ross. It includes Canadian singer Leslie Feist, who performs under the name Feist, American country singer Dierks Bentley, Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas, and Nigerian star Seun Kuti, according to a list released last week.
The Nobel concert is held a day after the Dec. 10 Nobel peace awards ceremony. Ahtisaari won the prize for his peace efforts on several continents over several decades.
Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann spent months building her profile through appearances on "Larry King Live" and other TV talk shows. It took only a few minutes of airtime, and one disparaging remark about Barack Obama, to undo it.
After saying on MSNBC's "Hardball" that Obama "may have anti-American views," Bachmann found herself fending off criticism from former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican, and Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Worse, Bachmann's comment uncorked a gusher of donations to her opponent, transforming a race she had been favored to win into one more worry spot for Republicans.
Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg said his campaign brought in $810,000 in less than 72 hours, an amount he could only have imagined before Bachmann's remarks. It took the former state transportation commissioner a year to raise $1 million before that, and Bachmann started the campaign's critical final month with almost four times as much cash as he had.
A waxwork version of Sir Paul McCartney's head has been left on a train--and now $4,000 is being offered for its safe return.
The owner of the head, Joby Carter, left it on a London-to-Reading train last Thursday (October 16), reports BBC News.
Carter is offering the money as a reward for the head, which was expected to sell for between $10,000 and $20,000 at Carters Entertainment auctioneers before it went missing.
The head was made in the 1960s and had been on display at the Louis Tussauds museum in Great Yarmouth.

Gillian Anderson, star of "The X-Files" TV series and movies, and her boyfriend Mark Griffiths, are the parents of a baby boy named Felix.
Anderson's manager, Connie Freiberg, said the baby was born Oct. 15 in London. Felix is the second child for Anderson, 40, and Griffiths, a British businessman. Their son Oscar will be 2 years old next month.
Freiberg said Anderson didn't name the boys after characters from the classic comedy "The Odd Couple."
"She's never even seen the show. She had no idea," Freiberg said Tuesday. "... I brought it up to her, and it really doesn't sink in."
Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.
The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.
In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.

A mistrial was declared in Britney Spears' driving-without-a-license case Tuesday, sparing the singer a criminal record - for now - as she pushes to put her music career in front of her behavior.
The jury's deadlock could not be broken, even after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Steele permitted prosecution and defense attorneys to make additional closing arguments Tuesday morning.
Deliberations lasted longer than the case, which featured only three witnesses and roughly a day's worth of testimony and arguments.
Nick Bollea, the 18-year-old son of Hulk Hogan, was released from the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday morning. He had pleaded no contest in May to causing the crash.
Bollea was arrested last year after authorities say he sped on a busy street and crashed his father's car, leaving a friend and former Marine permanently disabled.
Bollea could have faced five years in prison, but the victim's family requested a lesser sentence.
Jury selection began Monday for the murder retrial of music producer Phil Spector, who is accused of killing actress Lana Clarkson at his mansion five years ago.
About 80 prospects reported to court and an initial group of 18 was chosen for questioning by lawyers later in the day.
Spector was in court with his wife, Rachelle. The 69-year-old wore a long, black pinstriped jacket with a bright red tie and a silver dragonfly broach on his lapel.

Japanese climbers returning from a mountain in western Nepal said on Tuesday they had found footprints they think belonged to the abominable snowman or Yeti.
"We saw three footprints which looked like that of human beings," Kuniaki Yagihara, a member of the Yeti Project Japan, said in Kathmandu, after returning from the mountain with photographs of the footprints.
The climbers, equipped with long-lens cameras, video cameras and telescopes, said, however that they did not see or take any photographs of the creature.
"Transformers," the Hasbro toy property that led to Michael Bay's blockbuster film and an upcoming sequel, is being developed as a Universal Studios theme park attraction.
The studio said Monday that the attraction will fuse 3D-HD media, special effects and robotics with a ride system. It's scheduled to debut at Universal Studios Singapore and then at Universal Studios Hollywood, both before summer 2011.
Steven Spielberg, a producer of the 2007 film, is also involved. Spielberg serves as creative consultant to the Universal parks division and has worked with the company on Jurassic Park -- the Ride, an attraction at Universal parks in Orlando, Hollywood and Japan; the E.T. Adventure, in Orlando and Japan; and the "War of the Worlds" sets in Hollywood.

Rudy Ray Moore, a raunchy 1970s comedian who played the title role of a flashy pimp in the movie "Dolemite' and influenced a generation of rappers, has died. He was 81.
Moore died Sunday evening at an Akron nursing home from complications of diabetes, said his brother, Gerald Moore.
Moore was part of the heyday of black "party records." His stage personality featured blunt sex routines but, unlike contemporaries Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor, he never crossed over to mainstream white audiences.
The Washington Post said in a 1992 profile that Moore was "an astounding renderer of 'toasts,' - elaborately boastful, profane and scatological tales of life in the old-style urban subculture of pimps, prostitutes, gamblers and badmen. His husky, down-home voice is ideal for it."
Moore said he developed the style, later a feature of rap music, by listening to men sitting outside joints "drinking beer and lying and talking (expletive)."
Moore's other acting credits during the "Blaxploitation" era of black action films included "The Human Tornado" in 1976 and "Disco Godfather" in 1979.
