Monster Mashups Invade!
From DJ Useo
I love Halloween, & I love mashups, so you know I am into Halloween mashups. Thus, when I heard there was going to be a new Halloween mashup compilation again this year, I was quite the "happy camper". Jeremy Girard, who has been helming these collections, again generously donated much time & effort to provide us with another free bootleg album devoted to the Seasonal topic. Thus, you can now access "
Invasion Of The Monster Mash Ups
, & obtain 36 far out Samhain oriented tracks from tons of talented home producers.
Now, as you know, most mashup mixers can whip up a cool track that makes us tap a toe, & re-play, but not every bootlegger can make an appealing tune that evokes the trick or treat vibe. This new compilation brings you tracks that do both things. This is one successful set that many will find laudable. Surely, the lure of mashers like DJ's From Mars, Fissunix, Loo & Placido, Voicedude, & Cheekyboy will stir much interest among the regular crowd. However, factor in the extra layer of seasonal theme into the mix, & it elevates these audio gems into unforgettable territory.
Everyone who provided tracks for this baby selected source fodder from the tunes that grabbed them most about Halloween. So, listen for "strangely familiar" creations that contain elements from Alice Cooper, Danny Elfman, Iron Maiden, Santana, & many, many more great recording artists. We all spliced the sources together with appropriate horror-themed works from film, radio, & elsewhere, resulting in astonishingly listenable, yet spooky mashup music. Sometimes, the sources surprise, because you don't expect Katy Perry, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, or George Michael to inspire goosebumps. But these mashups do!
The album really is a fine keeper, & if you need further convincing, check out any of these superb videos. Here's links for some. -

A Range Of Ween
By AtoZ
I've been Weenishly busy this time around for 2015. There's even a comp in the works since last year's "Sinister Season" http://beatlesremixers.freeforums.org/halloween-mashup-album-atoz-dj-useo-the-sinister-season-t1585.html that was moved to the back-burners for 2016, largely because new ideas and projects keeping poppin' and cropping' up ( and aspects of Life keep happening as well ) And now that the calendar has once again swung into the the fall, there's a widening array of cadavering endeavorings !
I decided to finish at least one of the solo AtoZ mashes . . the one using a Ghostbusters song other than the ubiquitous theme, and slathered with samples from the film ! "Magic Mass Hysteria" appears on "Invasion Of The Monster Mashups". I sent an instrumental to Useo for some more transplanted brainstorming \ Useo sends back a suggested pella and other effects \ AtoZ tears them into tiny pieces and rebuilds it all \ and it all gets mad scientisted into the latest AtoZeo offering:
"The Frequency That Feeds".
And here they are all snuggly together !! - ( 2 mashups in 1 folder )
The Magic Frequency
At the same simultaneous time, I began crafting 2 hour radio-show podcast streaming thingys, and episodes 6 thru 8 are consumed with all things eerie and spooky . . . . with show #7 being devilishly devoted to Monsterous Mashups ! Episodes of "Radio AtoZ" in general can be found at
this page on hearthis.at
( hearthis.at/p2bt8kdr/ )
and Episode #7, "The Mash Scientist and The Monsterous Mashacre", went up the weekend of October 17th, with that second "Spooky Tunes" still due the next weekend ! Alright then . . Radio AtoZ #7 is truly & actually comprised of Mashups ! . . Monsterous Murderous Weeny Ones too !
The Mash Scientist and The Monsterous Mashacre
( hearthis.at/p2bt8kdr/radio-atoz-7-22the-mash-scientist-and-the-monsterous-mashacre-levelled-by-track/ )
I'm the first to admit that I don't know everybody's output well enough to be doin' weekly Mashified shows over here. I need another 37 lifetimes just to keep up with my own creative outpoop . . . plus ?, the slick variety of mashes what's all mainstream dance-poppy can leave me cold as a corpse. ( which is now handily appropriate in this Octoberizing time of yearly fear ! ) These slick mashes of which I squeak are impeccably done, mind you . . they just don't thrill me. But I found a whole bunch what chill me !!
Oh!, and I should share something about the cover-art for this episode. The idea came for dancin' skeletons w/ mashed heads.... well, Mashers heads... you saw ? Many shots of Useo & me I had, but you udder guys ??! Rare to none !! I found one of Voicedude that'd work, but it was black n white, and the semi-lengthy process of colorizing it would give it a feel that might not fit. So I used the Audioboots mascot / icon to represent All you unearthly bums !
Enjoy the musical terror, all you candy corn eaters. Be sure & scope the full playlist on the linked page. Share with your friends for an extra thrill! Scare ya later!

Honors Walter Mondale
Jimmy Carter
Former President Jimmy Carter cracked jokes at his own expense and waxed philosophical about the world's humanitarian challenges on Tuesday as he honored his former vice-president, Walter Mondale.
The 90-year-old former president appeared spry and energetic as he lauded Mondale in a packed ballroom in Washington. Carter made no mention of his ongoing battle with cancer, opting instead for nostalgic reflections on his four years with Mondale in the White House.
The glitzy gala at a hotel near the White House closed out a daylong forum honoring Mondale and hosted by the University of Minnesota, where Mondale teaches. As Carter sat in a semicircle with Mondale and his former chief of staff, Richard Moe, the event took on the feel of a campfire, a trio of old friends passing time by reminiscing about days past.
Turning serious, Carter said the greatest human rights violations in modern times are targeting women and girls, including sexual slavery he said occurs in the U.S. He also threw his unequivocal support behind the nuclear deal with Iran, and said he had conveyed as much to Secretary of State John Kerry during a meeting earlier Tuesday.
But Carter reserved his most effusive remarks for Mondale, who under Carter's leadership became the first vice-president to have an office in the West Wing, steps away from the Oval Office.

Cafeteria Catholic's Death Penalty Lust
'Fat Tony'
Referencing rulings to restrict capital punishment and changing sentiment within the Supreme Court, Justice Antonin 'Fat Tony' Scalia (R-Opus Dei) said Tuesday he wouldn't be surprised if the nation's highest court invalidates the death penalty.
Scalia addressed capital punishment during a University of Minnesota Law School appearance in which he also made clear retirement isn't in his near-term plans. The death penalty came up as Scalia described his judicial view that the Constitution is an "enduring" document that shouldn't be open to broad interpretation - while sharing frustration that his colleagues too readily find flexibility in it.
Scalia said death penalty decisions from the court have made it "practically impossible to impose it but we have not formally held it to be unconstitutional." Earlier in his remarks, Scalia said "it wouldn't surprise me if it did" fall, a comment that drew scattered applause in the mostly full, 2,700-seat auditorium.
In his 30th year on the Supreme Court, Scalia is the longest-tenured current justice. The 79-year-old said he's in no hurry to leave when asked by an audience member if justices should be forced to leave after a certain number of years rather than hold indefinite appointments.
"As soon as I think I'm getting lazier and I just can't do the job as well, I'm going to get off there. I want to preserve whatever reputation I have," Scalia said, adding, "If you've lost your smarts, yeah you should get off. But that hasn't been the case."

1862 Shipwreck Found
Lake Ontario
A team of shipwreck explorers has discovered a mid-19th century sunken steamship, believed to be the oldest of its kind ever found in Lake Ontario, one of its members said on Tuesday.
Jim Kennard and Roger Pawlowski found the wreck off the lake's southern shore in upstate New York in August after months of fruitless exploring using a sonar system.
Kennard and his partner first spotted the ship when they passed over it in their own vessel while scanning the lake, which reaches depths of 800 feet (74 meters).
They measured the wreck using sonar and identified it using a database Kennard created of 600 ships that have sunk or been wrecked on Lake Ontario over the past 350 years.
The vessel, measuring 137 feet (42 meters) with a beam of 26 feet (8 meters), was known as the Bay State, according to the database, which used local newspaper articles published at the time.

Takes A Fall
Bob Barker
Former "The Price is Right" host Bob Barker took a fall on a sidewalk and was treated for a cut to his head and scraped leg, a spokesman said.
Barker, 91, was out for his daily walk near his house Tuesday when he stumbled on uneven pavement, longtime friend and publicist Henri Bollinger said.
Two police officers who were nearby came to his aid and summoned an ambulance. Barker was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he received stiches for the head wound, Bollinger said.
He walked out of the hospital, said Bollinger, who drove him home.

Rupert's Liar Staying In Jail
Wayne Simmons
A Fox News guest terrorism analyst was ordered kept in jail by a federal judge on Tuesday as he faces U.S. charges that he falsely claimed to have been a CIA agent for decades.
The suspect, Wayne Simmons, 62, of Annapolis, Maryland, was denied release by U.S. Magistrate Ivan Davis. He cited Simmons' 11 arrests for driving under the influence, an arrest for a 2007 assault and firearms convictions as reasons to keep him behind bars.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Nathanson said Simmons' financial and alcohol problems along with his criminal history indicated he was a danger to the community.
A grand jury indicted him last week for portraying himself as an "Outside Paramilitary Special Operations Officer" for the Central Intelligence Agency from 1973 to 2000.
He had appeared on Fox "News", the top-ranked U.S. cable television news propaganda network, as a guest analyst on terrorism since 2002. Simmons, co-author of the thriller "The Natanz Directive," has a wide presence among conservative groups, a profile on Amazon.com said.

Top Gangster At Risk Of Capone-Style Fall
Japan
A recent split in Japan's biggest yakuza crime syndicate may have put its top leader at serious risk of tax evasion charges like those that toppled Chicago mobster Al Capone, experts said Tuesday.
Police have warned of a possible gang bloodbath after a breakaway group broke off from the Yamaguchi-gumi earlier this year.
And the rival faction may have got its hands on sensitive information about illicit funds passed to gang leader Kenichi Shinoda, who is also known as Shinobu Tsukasa, experts said.
Before the Yamaguchi-gumi's high-profile split, losing more than 10 percent of its soldiers, the group led by Tsukasa boasted more than 23,000 members and was Japan's biggest single gangster group.

Climate Change Destroying 'Roof Of The World'
Dalai Lama
Tibet's exiled leaders, including the Dalai Lama, said on Tuesday two-thirds of the glaciers in their mountain homeland may disappear by 2050 because of climate change and demanded a stake in international climate talks later this year.
The Tibetan plateau, which has the largest store of ice outside the North and South Pole, has experienced rising temperatures of 1.3 Celsius over the past five decades, three times the global average, the leadership said in a statement.
Tibet, with an average altitude of over 4,000 meters (13,125 ft) is particularly vulnerable to the impact of climate change. Warming is already melting glaciers that are the source of water in rivers that help support about 1.3 billion people.
About 80 percent of the ice in Tibet has retreated in the past 50 years, according to the government-in-exile.

Open To Navigation
Northwest Passage
Beneath the Aurora Borealis an oil tanker glides through the night past the Coast Guard ice breaker Amundsen and vanishes into the maze of shoals and straits of the Northwest Passage, navigating waters that for millennia were frozen over this time of year.
Warming has forced a retreat of the polar ice cap, opening up a sea route through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans for several months of the year.
Commander Alain Lacerte is at the helm as the vessel navigates the Queen Maud Gulf, poring over charts that date from the 1950s and making course corrections with the help of GPS.
"Where it's white (on the chart), it means the area hasn't been surveyed," he explains -- leaning over a map that is mostly white. "Most of the far north hasn't been surveyed, so our maps are unreliable."
"We don't want any shoals named after us," says the old sea dog from behind his spectacles.
