Senators on both sides of the aisle have been working on a narrow bill to stabilize individual insurance markets for well over a month now. One of the major stumbling blocks was President Trump, who seemed fully disinterested, if not outright hostile, to the idea. That appeared to change on Monday when Trump manufactured a storyline that would allow him to take credit for a short-term bill to clean up the mess he's made. In Trump's fantasy, no one was even talking about passing such a measure until his determined action last week.

'He Knew What He Signed Up For'
T-rump
U.S. President-for-now Donald Trump (R-Draft Dodger) told U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson's widow Tuesday that "he knew what he signed up for ...but when it happens it hurts anyway," when he died serving in northwestern Africa, according to Rep.Frederica Wilson, D-Miami Gardens.
"Yes, he said it," Wilson said. "It's so insensitive. He should have not have said that. He shouldn't have said it."
The president called about 4:45 p.m. and spoke to Johnson's pregnant widow, Myeshia Johnson, for about five minutes. She is a mother to Johnson's surviving 2-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter. The conversation happened before Johnson's remains arrived in a commercial Delta Airlines flight at Miami International Airport.
Wilson witnessed as the widow, who is expecting their third baby in January, leaned over the U.S. flag that was draping his casket. Her pregnant belly was shaking against the casket as she sobbed uncontrollably. Their daughter stood next to her stoically. Their toddler waited in the arms of a relative.

Counting Down The Remaining Hours Of Trump's Term
Giant Clock
In June, a band of artists furtively installed a massive, red, digital clock on the exterior of a building on the Queens waterfront. The mysterious timepiece has been counting down, day by day, hour by hour, ever since.
The giant clock - perhaps like you - is marking the hours until President-for-now Donald Trump's (R-Corrupt) first term comes to a close. The piece was executed by a group of New York artists and creatives including Brandon Stosuy, the editor of The Creative Independent, and multimedia artist Matthew Barney. It lives on the facade of Barney's Long Island City studio and is visible from Manhattan.
The creators of the project are doing their best to remain anonymous, hoping the mystery shrouding the installation will contribute to its impact on passersby. In an email to HuffPost, Stosuy wrote: "People know who made it, but our ideal is for folks to focus on the clock itself, and not who made it, if that make sense."
Last week DNAinfo published a piece connecting the clock's ticking digits to Trump's time left in office. "It's a reminder that a lot [of] people can't wait until it's over, as well as just a reminder," Stosuy said of the project. "It's also a bit like a durational test - a reminder to try to hold on until the end."
Right now the clock still has well over a thousand days to go. However, if by some chance Trump's term is terminated early, the clock is programmed to skip to zero. It's unclear how the clock will react if the world comes to an untimely end before election day 2020.

Racist Comments
'Dr. Doom'
Marc Faber, the Swiss investor based in Thailand, provoked a backlash from business television and investment management firms on Tuesday after comments in his latest newsletter suggested the United States had only prospered because it was settled by white people.
The investor and commentator, known as "Dr Doom" for bearish calls on stocks and the economy, was dismissed from the board of Canadian fund manager Sprott Inc after his remarks.
Business television networks such as CNBC and Fox Business said they would remove Faber from booking lists for their shows.
In the October edition of his newsletter, "The Gloom, Boom & Doom Report," in a section discussing capitalism versus socialism, Faber criticized the move to tear down monuments commemorating the U.S. Civil War military leaders of the Confederacy, and said:
"Thank God white people populated America, not the blacks. Otherwise, the US would look like Zimbabwe, which it might look like one day anyway, but at least America enjoyed 200 years in the economic and political sun under a white majority."

Library Hosts Drag Queen Story Hour
Long Beach
A photograph showing a horned drag queen reading a picture book to children at a Long Beach public library event is one of the latest images to generate controversy.
The person shown in the image is Xochi Mochi, who posted the photo on her Instagram account on Saturday afternoon, the same day Long Beach Public Library's online calendar shows an event called Drag Queen Story Hour was scheduled to have taken place at Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library in North Long Beach.
As of Tuesday morning, commentators in conservative news and social media have attacked Xochi Mochi's appearance. World Net Daily on Monday published an article headlined "drag-queen demon reads to kids at Michelle Obama library." The American Conservative ran a post Tuesday under the words "Children's story time in Weimer (sic) America," a likely reference to the anything-goes culture prevailing in interwar Germany before the rise of the Nazi Party.
Locally, CBS 2 news covered the reaction to the event in the context of a Southern California political race after GOP congressional candidate Omar Navarro tweeted a picture of Xochi Mochi below the words, "Demonic teachings alive in Long Beach. I'm outraged they would allow this."
Federal Election Commission records show Navarro is raising money to challenge longtime Democratic incumbent Maxine Waters in the 43rd Congressional District.

Man With An Opinion
John McCain
John McCain has denounced "half-baked, spurious nationalism" during a speech at his National Constitution Centre Liberty Medal ceremony, in a thinly veiled dig at Donald Trump (R-Draft Dodger).
"To abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems," he said, "is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history."
He continued: "We live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil."
He made the remarks after receiving the award for a lifetime of service and sacrifice to his country, going on to recall more than two decades of Navy service and his imprisonment in a Vietnam prisoner of war camp.
None of the speakers, who included former Vice President Joe Biden, mentioned any current or former government officials during their remarks.

Warns McCain
T-rump
US President-for-now Donald Trump (R-Execrable) launched into a fresh war of words with a fellow Republican on Tuesday, warning John McCain "I fight back, and it won't be pretty" after the respected senator criticized him in a speech.
Speaking on Monday night at an event held to honor his life's achievements, McCain accused Trump of spreading a "half-baked, spurious nationalism."
Trump lashed out Tuesday, telling conservative radio host Chris Plante: "People have to be careful because at some point I fight back.
"I'm being very nice. I'm being very, very nice. But at some point I fight back, and it won't be pretty."
Regarding Trump's suggestion he would fight back, McCain responded simply: "I have faced some pretty tough adversaries in my life."

Former Republican Congressman Hopes Democrats Win
House of Representatives
A former Republican congressman has admitted the US might be "better off" if Democrats win control of the House of Representatives, because Donald Trump (R-Odious) is "unstable".
Describing the US President-for-now is a threat to national security, David Jolly, who served as the representative for Florida's 13th congressional district between 2014 and 2016, suggested the country would benefit from Democrat success in next year's midterm elections.
"We have a president who is known to be unstable," he told US cable channel MSNBC. "We have a president who is known to be risky when it comes to matters of national security."
Mr Jolly claimed leading Republicans in Congress are also rooting for their opponents in the hope of limiting Mr Trump's power.
He said: "I personally as a Republican in the past few weeks have wondered: Is the republic safer if Democrats take over the House in 2018?"

Sentences Holocaust Denier To Jail
German Court
A German court sentenced an 88-year-old woman to six months in prison on Monday for denying the Holocaust and for inciting hatred.
Ursula Haverbeck, who describes herself as a revisionist historian, said at a public event in January 2016 that gas chambers in Auschwitz concentration camp "were not real".
A court in Berlin found Haverbeck guilty after examining a short video of her speech in which she said that she was citing a book, not expressing her own views. The court, however, found the speech to be her own and gave her six months in prison.
Denying the Holocaust, in which six million Jews were killed, is a crime in Germany, punishable by up to five years in prison.
Haverbeck, who is avoiding going to jail by appealing the verdict, has faced similar legal cases across Germany. The latest was by a court in North Rhine-Westphalia last summer when she was given a 10-month prison sentence for the same charges.
