The Maddening Mashups Of Halloween
By DJ Useo
Oh yes, the Halloween mashup fun continues. Last week, I presented you
my 7th annual Halloween ep
( www.suprmchaos.com/bcEnt-Wed-100114.index.html ) . Since then, I completed my share of the upcoming AtoZ/Useo Halloween mashup project "The Sinister Season". My Halloween ep is very energetic with EDM, Hip Hop, & Metal merged into tracks. The AtoZ/Useo ( or "AtoZeo" ) goes in a far moodier direction. Soon, you'll hear the difference for yourself.
As of today, I finished mastering the HUGE tenth annual "MONSTER MASHUP" collection. Strange forces have assembled 40 incredible Halloween mashups from top mixers like Kill mR_DJ, CheekyBoy, DJ Spider, & so very many more of whom you'll hear in next weeks' column. I had an amazing time checking out the mixes before most anyone. Again, & again, I was pleased with inventive & well-produced All Hallows' Eve mixes. Come back next Wednesday for the full story.
As I promised last week, I have an exclusive Halloween solo mashup for you of Black Sabbath vs Oingo Boingo.
Here's a stream, or d/l link for " Children of The Grave Pain ".
( soundcloud.com/dj-useo/halloween-black-sabbath-vs-oingo-boingo )
It's a stand alone track, & isn't a part of any Halloween collection.
I also have my yearly non-mashup Halloween long mix ready for audio consumption. It's called "Halloween Will Get You". All but one track are from 2014 albums, so you won't get any of those over-played Samhain tracks you're so tired of.

In this video, we see professors from the University of Alabama read their reviews on the website Rate My Professors. It takes a thick skin to even peek at anonymous reviews from students. BartCop
Hello Bartcop fans,
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to
active@bartcop.com.
Bart's final wish was to pay off the house mortgage for Mrs. Bart who is
overwhelmed and so very grateful for the support she has received.
Anyone wanting to make a donation can click on this the yellow donate
button on bartcop.com
But - I need you all to help keep this going. This note
isn't going to directly reach all of Bart's fans. So if you can repost
it on blogs and discussion boards so people can sign up then when we
figure out what's next we can let more people know. This list is just
over 600 but like to get it up to at least 10,000 pretty quick. So
here's the signup link for this email list.

Emory University Acquires Archives
Flannery O'Connor
Emory University officials say the school has acquired the archives of American author Flannery O'Connor.
They said in a news release that Emory's Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book Library acquired the archives of the novelist and short story author from the Mary Flannery O'Connor Charitable Trust in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Among other honours, O'Connor posthumously won the 1972 National Book Award in the fiction category for "The Complete Stories of Flannery O'Connor." O'Connor, who was born in Savannah and lived in Milledgeville, died of lupus at age 39 in 1964.
Officials said the collection also includes more than 600 letters between O'Connor and her mother.

Bad News For Fox
Ratings
For three of the four biggest television networks, the ratings report card offered encouraging news for the second straight week. Fox is the one exception, and it looks to be in real trouble.
CBS, NBC and ABC had bigger audiences for the second week of this year's fall television season than they had during the same week last year, the Nielsen Co. said.
Fox, however, is down 29 per cent from the same week last year and 32 per cent among the youthful viewers it cares most about. Only the new "Gotham" has the look of a hit.
Fox has already cut back on airings of "Utopia," the reality show it hoped would become a big draw but reached only 2 million viewers last week. The debut of the comedy "Mulaney" reached only 2.3 million viewers.

DNA Link
Coffee
How much coffee do you drink every day? One cup in the morning? Or do you gulp it all day?
Scientists have long known that your DNA influences how much java you consume. Now a huge study has identified some genes that may play a role.
Their apparent effect is quite small. But variations in such genes may modify coffee's effect on a person's health, and so genetic research may help scientists explore that, said Marilyn Cornelis of the Harvard School of Public Health. She led the research.
The project analyzed the results of about two dozen previous studies with a combined total of more than 120,000 participants. Those participants had described how much coffee they drink a day, and allowed their DNA to be scanned. The new work looked for minute differences in their DNA that were associated with drinking more or less coffee.
Researchers found eight such variants, two of which had already been linked to coffee consumption.

Extends TV Deals With ESPN & TNT
NBA
The NBA and its television partners couldn't wait to extend their contracts.
The league renewed its deals with ESPN and TNT even though two seasons remain on the old ones. With potential competition from Fox looming, both networks were willing to pay generously to secure the rights long term.
The NBA's annual revenue from the agreements will increase from $930 million to more than $2.6 billion, according to a person familiar with the terms. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the league did not announce financial figures.
The contracts will run an additional nine years through the 2024-25 season. The previous eight-year agreements end after 2015-16.

Sues Justice Department
Twitter
Twitter Inc sued the U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday, intensifying its battle with federal agencies as the Internet industry's self-described champion of free speech seeks the right to reveal the extent of U.S. government surveillance.
The lawsuit, which Twitter said follows months of fruitless negotiations with the government, marks an escalation in the Internet industry's battle over government gag orders on the nature and number of requests for private user information.
In the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for Northern California, Twitter said that current rules prevent it from even stating that it has not received any national security requests for user information.
Tech companies have sought to clarify their relationships with U.S. law enforcement and spying agencies in the wake of revelations by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden that outlined the depth of U.S. spying capabilities.

Open Investigation
Stephen Collins
New York police say they have an open investigation into allegations that veteran TV actor Stephen Collins molested a teenage girl in the early 1970s.
Police spokesman Stephen David says the complaint was filed in 2012 accusing Collins of forcing a then-14-year-old girl to commit a lewd act in 1972. David says the case remains open, but no charges have been filed.
Celebrity website TMZ reported Tuesday that Collins discussed the incident in a therapy session with his estranged wife, Faye Grant. Grant also included allegations her husband admitted the molestation in documents filed in their divorce case last year.
Two cable television networks said Tuesday they would not broadcast scheduled re-runs of Collins' series "7th Heaven."
Hollywood trade outlets reported that Collins had resigned a leadership post with the union SAG-AFTRA and he had been fired from the movie "Ted 2."

Torture - Film At 11...
Guantanamo
Officials at Guantanamo Bay prison are using force feedings of a Syrian detainee to discourage other inmates from joining a hunger strike, a witness at a federal trial over his treatment said on Tuesday.
The prisoner, Abu Wa'el Dhiab, 43, has been held at the prison in Cuba without charges for 12 years. He was cleared for release in 2009 but the process has stalled as the United States looks for another country to take him.
He has been on a hunger strike and Dhiab's lawyers have said the practice of forcibly removing him from his cell, restraining him and feeding him through a nasal tube up to twice a day was illegal and abusive.
The prison is using unnecessarily frequent feedings as a "punitive strategy" to discourage hunger striking, Dr. Steven Miles, a professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota and an expert on tube feeding, testified during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Washington.
On Friday, U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler ordered the U.S. government to prepare public versions of 28 videos that show Dhiab being force-fed.

Bible Museum
Hobby Lobby
Hobby Lobby's Steve Green hopes his planned $800 million Museum of the Bible in Washington and its priceless collection can satisfy both scholars and casual visitors.
But with Hobby Lobby a household word after the craft store chain's contentious victory in a Supreme Court ruling over contraception, scholars and analysts worry that despite its vast holdings the museum will give a narrow interpretation of one of the most influential and debated books in history.
The museum's goal is to attract visitors ranging from politicians to experts drawn by its fragments of Dead Sea Scrolls and cuneiform tablets, to those with little knowledge of the Bible, Green said in an interview.
Construction of the eight-story, 430,000-square-foot (38,700-square-meter) Museum of the Bible is set to start this fall three blocks from the U.S. Capitol. Opening is scheduled for 2017.
Purchased in less than five years, the collection includes such artifacts as the earliest known form of a Jewish prayer book, first editions of the King James Bible, and several previously unpublished New Testament fragments on papyrus.

Ads Canceled
Michigan
The Senate Republicans' campaign arm is canceling planned TV ads for the final two weeks of Michigan's race, a sign that the party is turning its focus to other states in its drive for the Senate majority.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee pulled $950,000 in ads for the weeks of Oct. 21 and Oct. 28, according to a political operative who tracks ad spending. Democratic U.S. Rep. Gary Peters has consistently led former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, a Republican, in most polling.
Some other outside groups, too, previously bailed on Michigan, further suggesting it has fallen out of reach for Land.
Republicans are hoping to net six seats to control the Senate. A Republican has not won a Senate seat in Michigan since 1994, though Democrat Carl Levin's decision to retire rather than seek a seventh term improved the GOP's chances.

Plan To Rename Beach Is A Wash-Out
Hawaii
A Honolulu City Council proposal to name a popular Oahu beach after the first Hawaii-born U.S. president, Barack Obama, has been withdrawn after the plan met with little enthusiasm from the public, its sponsors said on Tuesday.
Council Chair Ernest Martin and co-sponsor Stanley Chang introduced a resolution last week to honor the commander-in-chief by renaming Sandy Beach Park as President Barack Obama Sandy Beach Park.
Located near Hanauma Bay on the east end of Oahu, the beach is known for a large shore break that makes it a favorite among body surfers, including, sponsors say, the president.
Obama is known to have body surfed at Sandy Beach while he was growing up, and has ridden the waves there while on vacation since being elected to the White House.
