M Is FOR MASHUP - October 4th, 2017
Halloween Rock Mashups
By DJ Useo
So, for 10 years now, I've released a "Halloween ep" collection every October. The mixes are noticeably seasonal, often with added sound effects, & artist fodder. For instance. 2015's ep features a track "Ghost Torso" ( Slash vs Laibach )(Rock Version) that has Guns 'N Roses' Guitarist singing over German industrial band Laibach. It's guaranteed to ashen your features with Samhain creepiness. Yet, people really seem to have enjoyed that one.
Last week I took two tracks from each year & mixed them into a new Halloween set. It closes with two unreleased tracks from this years so-far-unreleased 2017 ep. All in less than an hour & twenty minutes, so you can burn it to disc. ( Yeah, people still do that. ) The set adheres closely to the rock genre with various back & forth arrangements.
There's tracks with combos like Kiss vs The B-52s vs Klaus Schulze, Jimi Hendrix vs Emerson Lake and Palmer, Ozzy Osbourne vs Frank Zappa, & Ray Parker Jr vs Pink Floyd. You can stream, or download the one-track file here

Next week I'll have the all-new "DJ Useo - Halloween ep 2017" for you. 13 tracks in celebration of the coming holiday. Better than candy corn! See ya then.

Do you know how Kaepernick came to the decision to #takeaknee?
Aug 14, 2016- Colin Kaepernick sits for the national anthem. No one notices.
Aug 20th, 2016- Colin again sits, and again, no one noticed.
Aug 26th, 2016- Colin sits and this time he is met with a level of vitriol unseen against an athlete.
Even the future President of the United States took shots at him while on the campaign trail. Colin went on to explain his protest had NOTHING to with the military, but he felt it hard to stand for a flag that didn't treat people of color fairly.
Then on on Aug 30th, 2016 Nate Boyer, a former Army Green Beret turned NFL long snapper, penned an open letter to Colin in the Army Times.
In it he expressed how Colin's sitting affected him.
Then a strange thing happened. Colin was able to do what most Americans to date have not...
He listened.
In his letter Mr. Boyer writes:
"I'm not judging you for standing up for what you believe in. It's your inalienable right. What you are doing takes a lot of courage, and I'd be lying if I said I knew what it was like to walk around in your shoes. I've never had to deal with prejudice because of the color of my skin, and for me to say I can relate to what you've gone through is as ignorant as someone who's never been in a combat zone telling me they understand what it's like to go to war.
Even though my initial reaction to your protest was one of anger, I'm trying to listen to what you're saying and why you're doing it."
Mr. Boyer goes on to write "There are already plenty people fighting fire with fire, and it's just not helping anyone or anything. So I'm just going to keep listening, with an open mind. I look forward to the day you're inspired to once again stand during our national anthem. I'll be standing right there next to you."
Empathy and understanding was shown by Mr. Boyer.........and Mr. Kaepernick reciprocated.
Colin invited Nate to San Diego where the two had a 90 minute discussion and Nate proposed Colin kneel instead of sit.
But why kneel? In a military funeral, after the flag is taken off the casket of the fallen military member, it is smartly folded 13 times and then presented to the parents, spouse or child of the fallen member by a fellow service member while KNEELING.
The two decided that kneeling for the flag would symbolize his reverence for those that paid the ultimate sacrifice while still allowing Colin to peacefully protest the injustices he saw.
Empathy, not zealotry under the guise of patriotism, is the only way meaningful discussion can be had.
Mr. Kaepernick listened to all of you that say he disrespects the military and extended an olive branch to find a peace.

T-rump Helps Democrats
Florida
President-for-now Donald Trump (R-Crooked) has helped Democrats win an improbable victory in Florida, taking a state Senate seat away from the Republicans who have dominated state politics for two decades.
Trump was a focal point in last week's special election, which sends Annette Taddeo to Tallahassee as the first Latina Democrat in the Florida Senate.
"Thank you for everything you did to help us flip this seat. This is your victory," she told supporters after beating Jose Felix "Pepi" Diaz by nearly 4 percentage points.
Democrats latched on to the fact Diaz had been a contestant on Trump's reality TV show "The Apprentice" before becoming a state representative. During the campaign, Diaz deleted a selfie he had tweeted of himself with Trump just before the inauguration, saying the photo had become a distraction.
Most political observers thought Diaz would win despite Trump's negatives. Just last year, a sitting Democratic senator was trounced by 10 percentage points by Republican Frank Artiles. But Artiles resigned only months later, after using the N-word in front of two black colleagues, and Taddeo capitalized on growing anti-Trump sentiment.

Betrayed By - No One?
Anne Frank
It's long been believed that Anne Frank and the other Jews she was hiding with were betrayed, their location behind a movable bookcase leaked to the German security service that arrested them and deported them to faraway concentration camps.
But a study by the Anne Frank House museum in Amsterdam released findings last year that suggest there was no betrayal, and the discovery of the eight Jews behind the bookcase was by chance.
A retired FBI agent is determined to figure out the truth.
Vince Pankoke is leading a team of 19 forensic experts to look into the cold case, according to the Guardian. The hope is investigative techniques developed in the past decade coupled with unclassified records of arrests by the German security services, known as the Sicherheitsdienst, might lead to new information. It has been long-believed that the arrest records related to the Franks had been destroyed in a British bombing raid in 1944, but Pankoke is not convinced.
"I've spent a lot of time of the United States National Archives and found documents there from Amsterdam that I was told didn't exist," Pankoke, 59, told the Guardian. "Some of them are water damaged or fire damaged, and they are in technical military German, so it's going to take a while. But we have found lists of names of Jews arrested having being betrayed, lists of informants and names of Gestapo agents who lived in Amsterdam. All that can go into the data store, and we can find connections."

Severed Head To Go On Display
Jeremy Bentham
The severed head of eccentric philosopher Jeremy Bentham is to go on display for the first time in decades and scientists are using the opportunity to test his DNA to find out if he was autistic.
Social reformer Bentham, who died in 1832 insisted that his body be preserved after his death as an 'auto-icon' so that he could be wheeled out at parties if his friends were missing him.
He also wished to encourage others to donate their bodies to medical science, believing that individuals should make themselves as useful as possible, both in life and death.
And Bentham was a staunch atheist who described church teachings as 'nonsense on stilts' and so was opposed to a Christian burial.
For more than 150 years, his body has been kept on public display in a glass case at University College London, however after a mummification mistake, his head was deemed too distasteful to show, and is now kept in safe where it is removed just once a year to check that skin and hair are not falling off.

Sells For Record $38m At Auction
Chinese Bowl
An extremely rare and ancient Chinese bowl has sold for a record price of almost $38 million (£28.4m) at auction.
The nearly 900-year-old porcelain bowl from China's Northern Song dynasty (960-1127) was sold to an anonymous phone bidder at a Sotheby's sale in Hong Kong.
The tiny Ru-ware bowl, with a blue-green glaze and complex interlaced 'ice crackle' pattern, was once used to wash brushes.
Sotheby's added Ru-ware has "achieved almost mythical status over the last 1,000 years … attributed to its short-lived production period, generally believed to not have exceeded twenty years".
The item broke the previous record for Chinese ceramics, when a 500-year-old imperial "chicken" cup from the Ming dynasty Chenghua period sold for $36m in 2014, Sotheby's said.

One Every Day
Mass Shooting
Sunday's gun attack at a Las Vegas country music festival has left at least 59 people dead.
It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, once again highlighting America's extreme rate of gun violence - a rate that other developed nations don't come anywhere near matching.
While the scale of the attack in Las Vegas on Sunday night is unparalleled, it wasn't the only mass shooting to occur in the US that day.
Some 13,000 miles away in Lawrence, just outside the University of Kansas in Kansas, two men and a woman were killed and a further two people injured in a mass shooting incident.
Mass shootings in America - defined as an event where at least four people are shot - are now an every day event.

"Sorry" For False News
Google and Facebook
Google and Facebook have apologised after their algorithms led to the promotion of inaccurate information about the Las Vegas shooting.
Posts from a 4chan messaging board that falsely identified the gunman as an individual who was not involved were circulated online.
Facebook said it took down the posts within minutes.
As for Facebook, the social network told the Associated Press that it began removing results relating to the Gateway Pundit and 4chan within minutes.
Google and Facebook have been criticised several times in the last 12 months for promoting content later found to be false, particularly relating to breaking news events.

Will No Longer Air National Anthem Before Games
Fox Sports
Fox Sports will no longer air coverage of the national anthem before its NFL games, the network said on Sunday in a statement to Sports Illustrated.
NFL players continued to peacefully protest racial injustice this week in defiance of President-for-now Donald Trump (R-Racist), who called the demonstrators "sons of bitches" and said they should be fired from the league.
This week, three Miami Dolphins players kneeled while the rest of the team remained standing.
One of the kneeling Dolphins players was safety Michael Thomas, who fought back tears last week while responding to Trump's harsh rhetoric.
"I got a daughter. She's going to have to live in this world," Thomas told reporters last week. "I'm going to do whatever I got to do to make sure she can look at her dad and be like, 'Hey, you did something, you tried to make a change.'"

T-rump Defends Effort
Puerto Rico
President-for-now Donald Trump (R-Buffoon) on Sunday defended US efforts to bring relief to storm-battered Puerto Rico, even as one island official said Trump was trying to gloss over "things that are not going well."
Trump said US military teams and the Federal Emergency Management Agency were doing "amazing work" and credited the island's governor and others with a "fantastic job."
But two weeks after devastating Hurricane Maria left much of the island without electricity, fresh water or sufficient food, many Puerto Ricans seemed to have a far gloomier outlook.
Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, told CNN: "Speaking from his fancy golf club, playing golf with his billionaire friends, attacking the mayor of San Juan, who is struggling to bring electricity to the island, food to the island, water to the island, gas to the island, that is just -- it is unspeakable.
"And I don't know what world Trump is living in."
