New Useo Halloween Mashups For 2014
By DJ Useo
Woot! I made it to my seventh annual All-Hallow's Eve mashup album. I really enjoy the autumn season, so if you add in trick or treating, & the costumes, & all, it's easy to understand the holidays' lure on me. In addition to that influence, I've had lots of pals motivating me to create mashups for various Halloween projects. Now that I think about it, I realize I've been working on Halloween tracks since
SUMMER BOOTY 2014
came out this last June.
I did my standard practice of making way more tracks for the project than I actually needed. The Halloween ep's always have thirteen tracks. After mixing for four months, I had around 32 appropriate tracks for the album. So, I sat down and played them all, whittling away the ones that didn't seem to fit the picture that was emerging. Sure enough, the chosen thirteen mainly conform to a genre clash blend of electronic dance music, Hip Hop, & hard metal, all in a Halloween vein. You can find the full playlist, with working

DJ Useo's Halloween ep 2014 isn't the full story behind my Halloween mashup adventures this year. I've also been laboriously co-mixing with DmR of AtoZ to produce a separate Halloween project that hoes a more moody mashup melange. That'll be out in about two weeks, so save up the candy corn for the listening parties. But before that, even, is the biggest Samhain season project of the year. Mysterious figures are coordinating the tenth anniversary edition of the infamous MONSTER MASHUP series. I'll be writing & linking all the Halloween bootleg projects right here on BARTCOP E, so you've got plenty to anticipate. ( Including apple bobbing! )
I haven't checked on the links for the entire MONSTER MASHUP series yet, but I did update all my Halloween ep links. Find them down the page a bit on my
ALBUM blog here

Amazingly, I have one more really fine mashup that's almost finished. I'll get back to finishing it now, so you can hear it next week. ( Hint…Oingo Boingo vs Black Sabbath )
Also, here's a link for the animated gif version of the Halloween ep 2014 cover.

Be sure & check out the cover folder included in the zip file. It has 13 original drawings by me, plus a poster of all the monsters used.
More Halloween stuff next week. Later, all.

We all love food, because it's delicious and without it we'd all die horribly. We also love the fact that we really don't have to worry where said food came from beyond "the store" or, if you think about it a little harder, "the ground." So what if we were to tell you our favorite foodstuffs are being harvested by tens of thousands of exploited children? This isn't some shady underground child labor ring run by the mafia, either -- it's 100-percent legal in almost every state of the union.

BartCop
Hello Bartcop fans,
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to
active@bartcop.com.
Bart's final wish was to pay off the house mortgage for Mrs. Bart who is
overwhelmed and so very grateful for the support she has received.
Anyone wanting to make a donation can click on this the yellow donate
button on bartcop.com
But - I need you all to help keep this going. This note
isn't going to directly reach all of Bart's fans. So if you can repost
it on blogs and discussion boards so people can sign up then when we
figure out what's next we can let more people know. This list is just
over 600 but like to get it up to at least 10,000 pretty quick. So
here's the signup link for this email list.

Man With An Opinion
Garry Kasparov
Arguably the world's best chess player ever, Garry Kasparov is on a new mission. He hopes to convince the world that the biggest threat to global unrest is not the Islamic State, al-Qaida or North Korea. Instead it is Vladimir Putin, Russia's president from 2000 to 2008 and then again from 2012 to today.
In an interview with Yahoo News and Finance Anchor Bianna Golodryga, Kasparov outlined his reasons for believing that Putin should be what keeps the world up at night. He chided President Barack Obama for being too late in addressing Putin's aggression in Ukraine - ultimately annexing Crimea. And while he views the president's speech at the United Nations - calling Russia's invasion into Ukraine and ideology of "might makes right" backward -he still believes that actions speak louder than words. Kasparov has extremely harsh words for what he views as European indifference to Putin's actions, and he compares the world's complacency with the lead-up to World War II.
Kasparov calls the Islamic State militant group (also known as ISIL and ISIS) a diversion for the world to focus on. He finds it hypocritical that the U.S. and other Western allies have agreed to supply Syrian rebels opposed to IS, while refusing Ukraine's similar request.
His political views have affected his professional career and aspirations. Just last month Kasparov lost his bid for the presidency of the World Chess Federation, to Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, a controversial billionaire who had ties to Saddam Hussein, Moammar Gadhafi and Bashar Assad. (Ilyumzhinov also believes that not only was the game invented by aliens, but that he too was abducted by alien years ago. "Of course it was," Kasparov answered when asked if the election was rigged.)

Forming New Band
Jimmy Page
Jimmy Page has finally faced facts: Robert Plant is just not that into a Led Zeppelin reunion.
Speaking Tuesday in an onstage Q&A at the London launch of the latest batch of Zeppelin reissues, Page - who has agitated for a more permanent reunion ever since the band's triumphant one-off 2007 show at London's O2 Arena - finally seemed to rule out the band playing together again.
"I don't think it looks as though that's on the cards, so there's not much more I can say about that," he said. (Although, for once, Page declined to put the blame at Plant's door). "I'm not going to give you a detail-by-detail account of what one person says and another person says," he added. "All I can say is it just doesn't look very likely."
However, that doesn't mean you won't ever hear Page play Zeppelin classics again in a different setup, as the guitarist revealed plans to put a new band together and play live next year. "If I was to play again it would be with musicians ... some of them might be new to you," he said. "I haven't put the musicians together, I'm going to do that next year.

Bronze Statue Stolen
Ed Sullivan
Los Angeles police are investigating the theft of a solid bronze statue of Ed Sullivan from an outdoor exhibit at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
The statue was taken on Sunday from atop a pedestal in the academy's Hall of Fame Plaza in North Hollywood.
A police statement describes the statue as standing 18 inches tall and weighing about 20 pounds.
The plaza where the statue stood honours significant TV personalities and pioneers. Sullivan's classic variety show, "The Ed Sullivan Show," lasted more than two decades. He died in 1974.

Seeks New Voices
MSNBC
When Jose Diaz-Balart launched his new hour-long show on MSNBC earlier this summer, he had a guest who spoke only Spanish. And he did what he often does from his regular perch on Telemundo when an English speaker appears on the broadcast: He translated, in real time.
The guest was a woman directly involved in the immigration problem challenging the United States, and having an outside translator on the show struck Diaz-Balart as less than genuine. "It struck me as such a natural thing to do. When you talk about kids who are crossing the border," he said to reporters Tuesday. "How do you put on the voice of a translator? How do you do that?"
On cable news, such stuff is unorthodox, but David Schoetz, the executive producer of MSNBC's emerging 10 a.m. program, says the technique works. "We're going to keep doing it, he said. "You can see that people are rallying around the legitimacy of having that voice."
Giving time to new voices is a strategy that MSNBC is re-emphasizing as it seeks to take back ground it has ceded to rival CNN. In the third quarter, the Time Warner outlet, which has ratings woes of its own, saw all its daytime programming airing between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. trump MSNBC's. "We are experimenting," said Phil Griffin, MSNBC's president, at a meeting with reporters Tuesday. "And if you are not experimenting, you should not be here."

School Protests Roil Swing State Politics
Colorado
The protests over a Colorado school district's proposal to promote patriotism and de-emphasize civil disobedience in American history classes have found their way into the state's marquee midterm election races, injecting a volatile issue two weeks before early voting ballots land in mailboxes across the state.
As hundreds of students in Jefferson County walk out of class, Democrats running for governor and Senate are decrying the proposed changes, while some Republicans question the role of the teachers union, which is in its own battle over merit pay.
Statewide contests in Colorado are won and lost in the vast Denver suburb, and partisans on each side hope the heightening passions rebound to help their team in November. Colorado is the site of a top-tier gubernatorial contest and a neck-and-neck Senate race that could help determine which party controls that chamber.
The demonstrations broke out more than a week ago. A conservative bloc of three new members was elected to the school board last year, and they instantly became the majority, pushing out the district's veteran superintendent and clashing with its teachers union and parent-teacher association.
At its Sept. 19 meeting, the board proposed creating a committee to review texts and course plans, starting with Advanced Placement history, to make sure materials "promote citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free-market system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights" and don't "encourage or condone civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law."

Rejected By Psychiatric Unit
Pennsylvania
A western Pennsylvania teenager accused of stabbing 21 people at his high school in April was refused admission to a Pittsburgh psychiatric hospital due to safety concerns, a judge said on Tuesday.
Alex Hribal, who was 16 at the time of the stabbings, has been held in juvenile detention since he was arrested on April 9 at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, Pennsylvania. He is accused of slashing students and staff with two 8-inch kitchen knives. Westmoreland County Judge Christopher Feliciani on Friday granted a defense request to transfer the teenager to a psychiatric facility, and planned to send him to Southwood Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Southwood subsequently said it was unable to accommodate Hribal, according to a statement issued by the judge.
Before Southwood's decision, seven or eight other mental health facilities denied admission to the teenager, said Bruce Chambers, a forensic psychologist hired by Hribal's defense team to evaluate him.

Not Welcome In Europe
'Chlorine Chicken'
The EU's nominee for health chief pledged on Tuesday to oppose the import of some U.S. foodstuffs such as chemically-treated meat that Washington hopes to be able to sell to Europe under a planned multi-billion-dollar transatlantic trade deal.
In comments at his confirmation hearing in the European Parliament that will delight EU heavyweights France and Germany, Vytenis Andriukaitis also said genetically modified crops posed a "philosophical problem" that threatened Europe's biodiversity.
The United States, now in negotiations with the European Union on a free trade pact that would create a joint market of 800 million people, wants the 28-nation bloc to take a more science-based approach to GM crops and hormone-treated meat.
"I cannot make any compromises on this issue, whether it is hormones in meat or chlorine baths for poultry," Andriukaitis told EU lawmakers in the hearing on his nomination to be head of health and food safety policy in the next European Commission.

Sign Away First-Born For Free Wi-Fi
Brits
Several Britons agreed to give up their eldest child in return for the use of free wifi, in an experiment to highlight the dangers of public Internet, published on Monday.
Londoners were asked to agree to terms and conditions as they logged on to use free wifi in a cafe in a busy financial district and at a site close to the houses of parliament.
The terms included a "Herod clause", under which the wifi was provided only if "the recipient agreed to assign their first born child to us for the duration of eternity".
Germany ethical hacking company SySS built the device used in the study: a mobile wifi hotspot small enough to be carried in a handbag for around 200 euros ($254).

Floyd "Creeky" Creekmore
Floyd "Creeky" Creekmore, a former Montana rancher who held the record as the world's oldest performing clown, has died at age 98, his son said Tuesday.
Creekmore died Saturday night in his Billings home of complications from heart disease, Dave Creekmore said.
Creeky turned to rubber noses and orange wigs in the 1980s, after retiring from his previous life ranching and building homes. He joined the Shriners, which holds circus performances to raise money for its hospitals, and he put in thousands of hours of entertaining sick and well children, his son said.
In 2012, Guinness World Records recognized the then-95-year-old Creeky as the world's oldest performing clown. A previous stroke had knocked the juggling out of his act, but he still regularly donned the multicolored jacket and yellow hat to delight the young and old with a magic trick or a gag.
He stopped performing later that year when his wife of 74 years, Betty Creekmore, died. Creeky continued to attended Shriners' clown meetings, but he never put on the makeup again, Dave Creekmore said.
Creeky performed his last trick in July at a friend's 90th birthday party in Lewistown. He told a woman to tie two scarves together and then - with a leering eye toward his audience - announced that he would stuff the scarves down the front of her blouse.
Two men grabbed an end of each scarf and pulled as hard as they could. A bra popped out, tied between the scarves, leaving the crowd to roar and the lady to grasp at her blouse.
Creeky was hospitalized last month by an infection in his intestines. He was released from the hospital about a week later, but he never really recovered, his son said.
But to the end, he kept his passion for clowning.
"A lot of people go clear through life and are never really passionate about something," Dave Creekmore said. "Boy, he had the passion. He jumped into that with both feet."
