A reliable & talented producer of Mashup Collections is Simon Iddol. In
all likelihood you've read of his past releases here in this very
column. From the 'WHA!?' bootleg compilation series, collecting the
best new mashups to the recent 'SUMMER OF LOVE 2008' compilation
featuring late 60's tracks mashed with current chart fodder, Mr
Iddol gifts us with releases easy to enjoy. Now comes his newest
project 'We All Kissed A Girl - The Ultimate Katy Perry Mashup
Compilation', volume one in the Audio Porn Central series, 'GUILTY
PLEASURES'.
Eighteen mixers contributed 18 tracks, each giving their own spin to
the smash hit "I Kissed A Girl' by the new superstar Kate
Perry. The very popularity of the original track spawned the
initial mashups, with DJ Schmolli & Instamatic's tunes crafted
directly for this project. Since each track employs about half the
same source, it definitely is a 'guilty pleasure', but with talent
such as DJ Paul V, Divide & Kreate and Bobby Martini, the emphasis is
most assuredly on the pleasure. I would be remiss in my duties as a
columnist if I didn't give you a peek at the full artist list.
01 KenCarson - I Kissed A Barbie Girl
02 Xam - I Kissed Mr Vain
03 Ace of Clubs - Katy Got Low and Liked It
04 Lebuzz - I Kissed Your Friends
05 DJ Schmolli - I Kissed A DJ
06 LiamWalds - I Kissed a Stict Machine
07 DJ Paul V. - Jesus Kissed a Girl
08 Instamatic - I Kissed A Monster
09 Matt Hite - I Kissed a Bomb
10 Bobby Martini - I'm Worried I Kissed A Girl Called Ray
11 Divide & Kreate - Party Kisser
12 The Reborn Identity - Tainted Kiss
13 Torero BP - I Kissed A Molecule
14 DJ Gizmo - I Kissed A Girl In This Club
15 Prosac - I kissed Madonna
16 POMATIC - I Kissed A Glamorous Girl
17 neiltomo - I Kissed A Cherry Chopstick Before!
18 Dj Fac - I kiss a girl when things explode
Now that is a formidable lineup! You'll hear Kate Perry's smash hit
aligned with such various artists as Usher, Bloc Party, Flo
Rida, Depeche Mode & The Hoosiers, along with many more. The comp is
of course arranged & released under the direct supervision of Simon Iddol himself, guaranteeing a solid mashup experience. I may not know
of producers like KenCarson & Xam, but their music satisfies like
well-established, familiar names do. Whether you're a Kate Perry
fan, or or mashup appreciater, this set will delight you. I,for one,am
wondering what the next 'Guilty Pleasure' will be.

Q: Tell us a joke.

"Apocalypse Nerd" by Peter Bagge: A Review by David Kennedy-Logan
At 51 years old, Peter Bagge is becoming an elder statesman of the comics medium. A member of the generation of artists who came of age in the 1970s under the influence of genre-defining and boundary-pushing artists and publishers such as Robert Crumb, Will Eisner, Art Spiegelman, and Harvey Kurtzman, he rubs shoulders (at least figuratively) with Daniel Clowes, Chris Ware, Tony Millionaire, Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez, and many other brilliant weirdos.

Bad news for American writers hoping for a Nobel Prize next week: the top member of the award jury believes the United States is too insular and ignorant to compete with Europe when it comes to great writing.
As the Swedish Academy enters final deliberations for this year's award, permanent secretary Horace Engdahl said it's no coincidence that most winners are European.
"Of course there is powerful literature in all big cultures, but you can't get away from the fact that Europe still is the center of the literary world ... not the United States," he told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview Tuesday.
Speaking generally about American literature, however, he said U.S. writers are "too sensitive to trends in their own mass culture," dragging down the quality of their work.
"The U.S. is too isolated, too insular. They don't translate enough and don't really participate in the big dialogue of literature," Engdahl said. "That ignorance is restraining."
Robin Williams is to return to the UK stage after a 25-year absence along with comedy greats John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson to celebrate the Prince of Wales' 60th birthday.
The televised gala is being held to raise tens of thousands of pounds for youth charity The Prince's Trust.
The Prince, a "comedy fan", and the Duchess of Cornwall will attend the comedy night, We Are Most Amused, on November 12, two days before his birthday.
More acts will be announced in the run-up to the night, which will be broadcast on ITV1 and feature comedy sketches as well as stand-up.
Gwen Ifill has a broken ankle, but she'll still serve as the upcoming vice presidential debate's moderator.

Despite the pain, doctors have given her the OK to travel to St. Louis, where the vice presidential debate is scheduled for Thursday.
Some 15,000 enthusiasts have assembled the world's largest jigsaw puzzle in the southern German town of Ravensburg, Europe's biggest puzzle maker said.
Puzzle maker Ravensburger AG said 1,141,800 pieces were put together in only five hours on Sunday, forming a nearly 6,500-square foot (600-square meter) puzzle that nearly covered the town square.
A notary has submitted the result to the Guinness Book of World Records. The current record is a 212,323-piece puzzle measuring some 35 feet by 38 feet (10.8 meters by 11.68 meters) put together in Singapore in 2002.
The participants assembled more-than 4,000 smaller jigsaw puzzles, each with 252 pieces and standard puzzle motifs like animals, maps and landscapes.
The rectangles were then taken to the nearby town square and put together into the single massive 65-foot by 98-foot (20-meter by 30-meter) puzzle.

A letter written by a young Princess Diana in which she admitted trying to marry off her elder sister to her future husband Prince Charles was sold at auction in England Tuesday for 12,000 pounds.
In 1978, aged 17, the future Princess of Wales wrote to her nanny, Mary Clarke, that she and her brother Charles and sister Jane were trying to "marry off Sarah to various men but have failed in every direction".
"We even thought Prince Charles might have been in the running but were relieved when that passed," she wrote.
The letter sold for 12,431 pounds (22,000 dollars, 15,700 euros) including buyers premium and tax, according to auctioneers Reeman Dansie.
Technology company RealNetworks and major film studios on Tuesday squared off in a legal battle over a new product allowing consumers to make computer copies of DVDs that the studios claim is illegal.
RealDVD, a software product from RealNetworks subsidiary RealNetworks Home Entertainment Inc, allows users to create a copy of a DVD for their computer's internal or portable hard drive.
RealNetworks said RealDVD gives consumers the ability to do with movie or TV show DVDs what they already do with music CDs, and RealDVD eliminates the hassle of searching for a missing DVD or dealing with a scratched and unplayable disc.
But the Motion Picture Association of America, which represents Hollywood's major film and TV studios, disagreed and its member companies sued RealNetworks seeking a temporary restraining order to stop it from selling RealDVD software.

A Russian billionaire said Tuesday he is teaming up with former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev to form a new political party that will challenge the country's recent steps away from democracy.
Alexander Lebedev, a former lawmaker who has built a fortune in business and investment, said he and Gorbachev would work together in a political movement tentatively named the Independent Democratic Party.
Kremlin critics say that during his eight years as president, current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin reversed Russia's post-Soviet movement toward democracy and enhanced state control over the economy, courts and media.
It would be an uphill battle: Gorbachev is popular abroad, but is reviled by many Russians who blame him for the Soviet breakup. He won less than 1 percent of the votes in the 1996 presidential election and has not run since.
The federal government took a new, ecosystem-based approach to the endangered species list on Tuesday, proposing an all-at-once addition of 48 species, including plants, two birds and a fly, that live only on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
The action by the Interior Department would designate about 43 square miles as critical habitat for all the species rather than considering each species' habitat separately, which has been the practice for three decades. Officials said considering the species all at once should save time and resources and would help the whole ecosystem.
The same approach is planned to help protect rare species on Oahu, the Big Island and Maui over the next several years, and it could be considered for the Arctic, big river systems of the Southwest and areas of the mountain West, according to department officials.
A final decision on adding the species to the list will be made after a yearlong study.

Dolphins at a Japanese marine park are going on a low fat diet after developing pot bellies and failing to look sharp in their aquatic performances.
Kinosaki Marine World in western Japan said Tuesday that all its 19 dolphins have been on a low fat diet since late August, when they started failing to hit jumping targets and keep upright while treading water.
Keepers measured their weight and found all had gotten plumper, some up to 22 pounds heavier just during the summer.
All had the same menu - about 31 pounds of mackerel mixed with some white fish - but keepers found the mackerels had gotten fattier, adding too many calories for the dolphins.
