M Is FOR MASHUP - August 31st, 2016
Mashup Producers Stretch Their Muscles
By DJ Useo
Sure, single track mixes are great, but many of us long for a "fuller" musical experience. You know I do, as
my last mashup album had 34 tracks!

As I look around for bootleg content in a collected format I find some tremendous releases. Allow me to speak briefly concerning them.
01 - ToToM says "Here's my latest compilation dedicated to Lana Del Rey, produced with the help from MichMash and also MsMiep, it consists of 17 mashups plus 9 bonus tracks." It's called "Ultraviolent Boots (Lana Del Rey mashups)" & you can
get it here

02 - BigSammy has collected The Best of MIXCUT (Evil Döner Edition 2016) in honor of the home producer who departed us recently. It's a LARGE file, which is fitting as Mixcut had large talent.

03 - "Star Man presents: Punk Goes Pop Goes Punk (EP)" is one splendid listen. Star man says " What do you get when you take hard rock bands covering hit pop songs, but kick the band's singer off the stage and let the hit pop star join the band to lay down some vocals? You get Punk Goes Pop Goes Punk, a new type of mashup EP, presented by the Star Man, featuring Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Ellie Goulding, and more!".

04 - oki - oki ( sic ) gathered together this fun batch of tunes created by him & others. It's not so mainstream as some mashups, but the listen is completely rewarding. Get "traplbangers album- trap crumplbangers/mashups/remixes/originals".

Nancy LeTourneau: GOP Leadership Has Been Ejected From the Epistemic Bubble (Washington Monthly)
When we talk about how/why the #NeverTrump movement failed and why nothing Trump says/does breaks through to give his supporters pause…there you have it. The right wing media readers/listeners/watchers are living in the epistemic bubble created by the likes of Hannity, Drudge and Limbaugh.
Josh Marshall: Takeover Complete (TPM)
Over the last few years, […] you could hear more and more Republicans saying something like this: We thought it was this great thing that we had our own cable news network as an arm of the GOP or the conservative movement, echoing talking points, spinning the news. But at a certain point we realized Fox News wasn't working for us. We're working for Fox News.
Andrew Tobias: Still No THERE There
One of the things we can tell all our friends in blue states like California and New York is that this time your vote really does matter. In addition to winning the Electoral College, we need to show an enormous win in the popular vote. First, to minimize the chance Trump will be able to persuade people the election was "rigged" and that, really, he was the people's choice. Second, to show the world America has not lost its mind.

Jon Swaine and Lauren Gambino in New York and Richard Luscombe in Miami: Trump campaign chief Steve Bannon is registered voter at vacant Florida home (The Guardian)
Donald Trump's new presidential campaign chief is registered to vote in a key swing state at an empty house where he does not live, in an apparent breach of election laws. . . . Bannon is executive chairman of the rightwing website Breitbart News, which has for years aggressively claimed that voter fraud is rife among minorities and in Democratic-leaning areas. […] Willfully submitting false information on a Florida voter registration - or helping someone to do so - is a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Roman Polanski Drugged & Raped Me When I Was 13 (Cracked)
In 1977, when Samantha was 13, acclaimed film director Roman Polanski invited her to be the subject of a photo shoot. During the shoot, he gave Sam alcohol and a Quaalude, then raped her. He fled to Europe during the subsequent trial, where he still lives today. […] We talked to her about what it's like to live life as a prop in a celebrity's rape scandal in a country that still has no goddamned idea what to think about sexual assault victims.

Tasmanian Devils
Their numbers decimated by a vicious facial cancer, Tasmanian devils seem to be pulling back from the brink of extinction through lightning-fast genetic evolution, astonished scientists said on Tuesday.
A detailed comparison of the genomes of 294 devils, before and after the cancer emerged 20 years ago, revealed species-wide adaptations in seven genes over just four to six devil generations.
Five of the genes are associated with immunity and cancer resistance in mammals.
"The devils are evolving," study co-author Andrew Storfer of Washington State University told AFP. "Remarkably, this evolution was quite rapid."
Evolution within a species through the acquisition of lasting and beneficial genetic traits in response to factors such as environment or disease, is generally thought to be a long, slow process.

Trademark Lawsuit
Trader Joe's
A U.S. court has the authority to hear a trademark lawsuit by grocery chain Trader Joe's against a man who purchased the company's products and resold them in Canada at "Pirate Joe's," a store designed to mimic a real Trader Joe's, a federal appeals court said Friday.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a district court's decision to dismiss California-based Trader Joe's federal trademark claims.
The district court in Washington state said it lacked authority to hear those claims because the defendant's alleged trademark violations occurred in Canada and Trader Joe's had failed to clearly explain how they affected U.S. commerce.
The 9th Circuit said defendant Michael Hallatt's conduct could harm Trader Joe's reputation, decreasing the value of its American-held trademarks.
Circuit Judge Morgan Christen also pointed out that Hallatt bought the Trader Joe's goods he resold in Washington state.

Surveillance Program
Baltimore
With more than two-thirds of Baltimore's 200 murders this year unsolved, many violent criminals are staying a step ahead of the law. The police department hoped to even the score by quietly taking to the skies to record everything visible in the streets below, 32 square miles at a time.
Unbeknownst to the mayor, state's attorney or other city officials, Police Commissioner Kevin Davis agreed to let Persistent Surveillance Systems try out its time-traveling technology over Baltimore.
The Ohio-based company captured roughly 300 hours of images using powerful cameras from a small plane in January and February, June and August. Analysts then zoomed in on crime scenes, moving backward and forward in time among the images to see suspects arriving and getting away. Officers were alerted to their locations to make arrests, and some of these people now await trial.
Davis defended the technology after the tryout's existence was revealed Tuesday by Bloomberg Businessweek, instantaneously inspiring widespread outrage and criticism that an entire city's citizens could lose civil liberties without so much as a public hearing.
The disclosure came at a time when the Baltimore Police Department is under increased scrutiny: just two weeks ago the U.S. Department of Justice released a scathing report outlining widespread discrimination and use of excessive force in the department within the department.

Parole Denied For 9th Time
John Lennon's Killer
John Lennon's killer will remain behind bars after being denied parole for the ninth time.
The New York state Board of Parole on Monday announced that it has again denied parole to Mark David Chapman, who on Dec. 8, 1980, shot and killed the former Beatle outside his luxury Manhattan apartment.
The 61-year-old Chapman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is serving a sentence of 20-years to life in Wende Correctional Facility in western New York.
In a description of its decision, the parole board noted that Chapman has since described the murder as "selfish and evil." The board concluded that the factors supporting Chapman's parole were outweighed by the premediated and "celebrity-seeking" nature of the crime.
Chapman was notified of the board's decision last week. He was last denied parole in 2014, and will be eligible to seek parole again in 2018.

Arrested After Standoff
Chris Brown
Pop star Chris Brown was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on Tuesday after a daylong standoff and search at his Los Angeles home that began when a woman called 911, police said.
Brown, 27, denied any wrongdoing in posts on Instagram before he was taken into custody and said that he had woken up to find police outside and that they would need a warrant to enter the property in the Tarzana neighborhood in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.
Police who responded to the 911 emergency call spent hours surrounding the home before obtaining a search warrant and beginning a search of the sprawling premises in the early afternoon.
During that search TMZ posted a photo of Brown standing outside the home with a police officer and his attorney, Mark Geragos. Geragos could not be reached by Reuters for comment.
