The 'Manifest Destiny on film' Edition
According to AMC, Western Films or TV programs are the major defining genre of the American film industry... This indigenous American art form focuses on the frontier West that existed in North America (and) often portrays the conquest of the wilderness and the subordination of nature, in the name of civilization, or the confiscation of the territorial rights of the original inhabitants of the frontier. They truly show 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'
events of that part of our history. Love'em or loathe'em, their impact on our culture can not be denied...
If you are a fan what are your top 3 Western Films or TV programs and who are your favorite actors?
If you are not, feel free to rail away. I understand. I have Ojibwe ancestors (Sault Tribe of the Chippewa) and they suffered at the hand of the White man via broken treaties and confiscated land here in Michigan...

At first glance, this is a mere collection of ordinary moments - a falling
teardrop, an escaped balloon, a dive into a pool - but I think it's also
evidence that the things we see everyday, when carefully framed, can ache

Crypt Sale Falls Through
Marilyn Monroe
A $4.6 million bid submitted through online auctioneer eBay Inc for the crypt on top of Marilyn Monroe's final resting place fell through, an attorney for the seller said on Tuesday.
David Camel, an attorney for Elsie Poncher, who is selling her husband's crypt in a celebrity-heavy Los Angeles cemetery, said he is going through the bids to find one that qualifies.
Bidding closed on Monday, with the winning offer coming from Japan. The unidentified person then pulled out, Camel said.
The crypt is located at the Westwood Village Memorial Park cemetery, home to such celebrities as Dean Martin, James Coburn, Roy Orbison, Truman Capote, Natalie Wood, Carl Wilson, Minnie Riperton and recent arrival Farrah Fawcett.

Testing New Methods
Wikipedia
Wikipedia said it is testing a new method for curbing false information in its entries as the online encyclopedia seeks a balance between credibility and openness.
While anyone can still edit articles, the site is testing pages that require changes to be approved by an experienced Wikipedia editor before they show up. If the site's users respond well to the test run, the new restrictions will apply to all entries for living people.
The idea is to block the kind of high-profile vandalism that has marred the pages of some famous people.
Still, Wikipedia risks discouraging legitimate editing if restrictions on changes or additions become too burdensome, such that articles won't get better or keep up with events. That may be especially true on more obscure pages with fewer active volunteers to approve edits in a timely way.

Humorless Mother-In-Law
Sunda Croonquist
"Take my mother-in-law - please," isn't a joke you're likely to hear often these days from Sunda Croonquist. The veteran comic is being sued by her mother-in-law after making her the punchline of too many jokes.
The mother-in-law is accusing Croonquist of spreading false, defamatory and racist lies with in-law jokes that have become a staple of her routine in nightclubs and on television channels like Comedy Central.
To Croonquist, the in-law jokes seemed like a natural routine after living through one comical culture-clash moment after another: She is half-black, half-Swedish, grew up Roman Catholic and married into a Jewish family.
Things changed after Croonquist, promoting upcoming gigs in New Jersey, posted information on her Web site that, according to her in-laws, allowed pretty much anyone to figure out the identities of her in-laws.

`Most Dangerous Celebrity'
Jessica Biel
Jessica Biel is the most dangerous celebrity on the Web.
Security technology company McAfee Inc. on Tuesday reported that searches for the 27-year-old actress are more likely to lead to online threats such as spyware and viruses than searches for any other celebrity.
McAfee said fans searching for the actress have a one-in-five chance of ending up at a Web site designed to damage one's computer. Its the third annual report on the subject from McAfee, which last year found that Brad Pitt was the "most dangerous" celeb online.
Following Biel in the report, in order, were Beyonce, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Brady and Jessica Simpson. McAfee noted President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are curiously safe searches, ranking no. 34 and no. 39, respectively.

Sentenced In LA
Chris Brown
Disgraced R&B star Chris Brown was sentenced to five years' probation and 180 days of community labor on Tuesday for beating up his then-girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna.
The sentencing by a Los Angeles judge followed a plea deal. Brown, 20, pleaded guilty to assault on June 22. As part of his sentence, he must also complete a one-year domestic violence counseling program.
Brown formally apologized last month, calling the incident "unacceptable, 100 percent," and asking for forgiveness.
Brown will be able to perform his community labor -- meaning highway cleanup, litter removal or other work -- in Virginia, where he lives. He will also be allowed to attend a domestic violence counseling program in that state.

Another Jackson Creditor
Ola Ray
Court records show Michael Jackson's love interest in the "Thriller" video, Ola Ray, is now a creditor to the King of Pop's estate.
Ray's attorney filed paperwork in Los Angeles last week stating she is a creditor to the singer's estate and is owed an undetermined amount of money.
The actress sued Jackson in April, claiming he had failed to pay her royalties that she was due from the "Thriller" video for the past four years.
That suit, and two others filed by "Thriller" director John Landis, remain unresolved. One of Landis' lawsuits claimed he also hadn't been paid royalties on the "Thriller" video for several years.

New Clue
Honey Bees
Researchers have a new clue to the collapse of honey bee colonies across the country - damage to the bees' internal "factories" that produce proteins. Theories about the cause of bee colony collapse have included viruses, mites, pesticides and fungi.
The new study of sick bees disclosed fragments of ribosomal RNA in their gut, an indication of damage to the ribosomes, which make proteins necessary for life, according to a study in Tuesday's issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The sick bees suffered an unusually high number of infections with viruses that attack the ribosome, the researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported.
The researchers said the varroa mite, which was accidentally introduced to the U.S. in 1986, is a carrier of picorna-like viruses that damage the ribosomes.
