Pink Floyd Continues To Inspire
By DJ Useo
It's hard to admit, but I used to get quite irritated when I heard Pink Floyd. My preference was punk rock, so you can probably at least partially understand my chagrin whenever I heard Pink Floyd's music. Luckily, I moved past that phase, and now I have a keen appreciation for all their releases. My favorite Floyd stuff is anything pre-Dark Side Of The Moon, but I own all of their cd's,& enjoy them often. I've mashed them a lot, with those tracks consistently among the most popular useo mixes. In fact, I'm working with a mystery mixer to complete a full mashup album of Pink Floyd vs The Beatles tracks. We hope to release it in the upcoming Autumn.
I'm clearly not the only home producer interested in re-working PF's accomplished output. Recently, I came upon a Soundcloud.com page of various bootlegs assembled by an afficianado of the Floyd. This is a cool feature of the Soundcloud hosting ; we're allowed to repost others posts resulting in whatever type of assortment of tracks we prefer. If you want an excellent list to tons of various mashups, check out my useo favorites list. It's chock full of amazing mashups by tons of skilled people.
It starts here, & goes on for hundreds of cuts
( soundcloud.com/dj-useo/siouxsie-the-banshees-vs-the-smiths/recommended ).
The Pink Floyd repost page is from a group I follow,
Source Addiction
( soundcloud.com/source-addiction ). The Playlist currently has 32 tracks equaling 5 hours, 30 minutes, & 4 seconds. I'm hoping they add my new mix "One Of These Days Incinerate" ( Sonic Youth vs Pink Floyd vs No One Else ) It's track 15 on my new mashup album "
INTENSE PSYCHEDELIA 9"
You can stream, or download it here
( soundcloud.com/dj-useo/sonic-youth-vs-pink-floyd-vs-no-one-else )
Meanwhile, the Source Addiction 32 track page is
here
( soundcloud.com/source-addiction/sets/pink-floyd-stuff )
Get out some incense, turn on your black light, & have a blast checking out all these super fine Pink Floyd mashups.
As if 32 tracks aren't enough, I hope you'll
give this a listen
( soundcloud.com/kewell69/pink-floyd-john-oswick-mix-1 ). I mixed up this awesome long mix with Australian producer
Livercool
( soundcloud.com/kewell69 ). It's from 2013, but it shines as one of the best works I've been involved with.
I hope y'all enjoy the Flood of Floyd. I know I am.

BartCop
Hello Bartcop fans,
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to
active@bartcop.com.
Bart's final wish was to pay off the house mortgage for Mrs. Bart who is
overwhelmed and so very grateful for the support she has received.
Anyone wanting to make a donation can click on this the yellow donate
button on bartcop.com
But - I need you all to help keep this going. This note
isn't going to directly reach all of Bart's fans. So if you can repost
it on blogs and discussion boards so people can sign up then when we
figure out what's next we can let more people know. This list is just
over 600 but like to get it up to at least 10,000 pretty quick. So
here's the signup link for this email list.

At Least 10 Journalists Arrested
Ferguson
A photographer for the Getty agency and two German reporters were among the latest journalists arrested while covering protests in Ferguson, Missouri, over the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown.
At least 10 journalists have been arrested or detained since Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old, was killed Aug. 9 by officer Darren Wilson. Reporters for CNN, Al Jazeera America and other outlets say they have been harassed or physically threatened.
Capt. Ron Johnson of the Missouri Highway Patrol, in charge of security in Ferguson, said Tuesday that members of the media have had to be asked repeatedly to return to the sidewalks, because of safety concerns. In some cases, he said, it was not immediately clear who was a reporter, but once that was established, police acted properly.
The arrests and detainments, which have ranged from several minutes to several hours, have been widely criticized: President Obama said last week that police "should not be bullying or arresting" reporters for merely doing their jobs. Last Friday, 48 American media organizations, including The Associated Press, sent a letter to law enforcement officials in Ferguson, criticizing the treatment of reporters.

Rejects Gore's Allegations
Al Jazeera
Al Jazeera on Tuesday rejected allegations from Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, the founders of Current TV, saying they were false and potentially misleading.
Al Jazeera acquired Current TV for an estimated $500 million in 2013. Gore and Hyatt filed a lawsuit against the Qatar, Doha-based company on Friday for fraud and material breaches of the acquisition.
Al Jazeera America said in a statement that Gore and Hyatt's assurances of contract compliance were inaccurate and that third parties contend that Current TV breached its contracts while the group ran the channel.
The company said the Gore-Hyatt group promised to indemnify Al Jazeera if, after the sale, the company was sued for breach of any of these contracts while Gore and Hyatt ran the channel.

Visiting Norway
Casey Kasem
The wife of U.S. radio personality Casey Kasem has cited her Norwegian heritage as one of the reasons for wanting to bury her late husband in Oslo, a spokeswoman for the funeral service agency there said Tuesday.
Kasem, the host of "American Top 40," died June 15 in Washington at age 82. His death followed a lengthy battle over his care between his wife, Jean Kasem, and his three adult children from his first marriage.
Wenche Madsen Eriksson, spokeswoman for the funeral service agency in the Norwegian capital, said Jean Kasem also told the agency of plans to move to Norway later this year and said having her late husband interred there would allow her to visit him.
Kasem's body is in an Oslo funeral home and has not yet been buried, said Danny Deraney, a Los Angeles spokesman for the Kasem family members who are disputing Jean Kasem's burial plans for her husband.

Tech Helps Farmers Cope With Climate Shifts
Japan
Japanese technology firms are applying their expertise in energy-saving and cloud technology to help farmers cope with shifting weather patterns, an onslaught of cheaper imports and a shrinking workforce.
Panasonic Corp, Fujitsu Ltd and others, seeking niche business opportunities to offset a downturn in demand for their consumer electronics, are touting automated greenhouses and sensor-controlled fields that ensure constant conditions to produce high-quality vegetables all year-round.
Fujitsu says its Akisai cloud-based farming system means users can sit at a desk in Tokyo or even New York while tending vegetables in Shizuoka, using a tablet to operate sprinklers, fans and heaters in response to changes in heat and moisture tracked by sensors in fields or greenhouses.
Companies are also converting factories into farms: Toshiba Corp is to start growing vegetables at a former floppy disk plant near Tokyo, while Panasonic is growing radishes and lettuce inside a Singapore factory, and Sharp Corp is trialling an indoor strawberry farm in Dubai.
Domestic demand for farming systems using information technology and the cloud is expected to expand ninefold to 60 billion yen ($586 million) by 2020, according to market research firm Seed Planning, as farmers fret over the impact of climate change on their crops. Last year's summer was Japan's hottest on record, with temperatures in Tokyo topping 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) for a week straight in early August.

Loses Final Bid
Anna Nicole Smith
The estate of Anna Nicole Smith has failed in its final bid to obtain her late husband's money, seven years after the death of the Playboy model and reality TV star.
A federal judge on Monday rejected the effort to obtain about $44 million from the estate of Texas billionaire J. Howard Marshall, whom Smith married in 1994 when he was 89 and she was 26. The oil tycoon died the next year. His will left his $1.6 billion estate to his son and nothing to Smith.
Smith, under her real name of Vickie Lynn Marshall, challenged the will, claiming that her husband promised to leave her more than $300 million above the cash and gifts showered on her during their 14-month marriage. A Houston jury said Marshall was mentally fit and under no undue pressure when he wrote the will.
Over the course of nearly 20 years, the Texas bankruptcy court and local and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, all rejected Smith's various attempts to overturn Marshall's will and trust and to obtain money from his estate.
"Time spent litigating the relationship between Vickie Lynn and J. Howard has extended for nearly five times the length of their relationship and nearly twenty times the length of their marriage. It is neither reasonable nor practical to go forward," the judge said in his ruling. He noted that it was the last surviving piece of decades of litigation.

Scientists Warn
Rick Scott
Five climate scientists warned Florida Governor Rick Scott (R-For $ale) in a meeting on Tuesday that a steadily rising ocean was a major threat to the state's future, urging it to become a leader in developing solar energy and other clean power sources.
The Republican governor, who disputed the human impact on climate change in his 2010 campaign, agreed recently to meet with the scientists after his main Democratic challenger for re-election this year, former Governor Charlie Crist, proclaimed himself a firm believer in global warming.
Scott refused to take questions on Tuesday and offered no comment after the half-hour meeting in his office.
The scientists said they hoped Scott would respond to the Obama administration's proposal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power plants by 38 percent in Florida by 2030. The Environmental Protection Agency is accepting comments through Oct. 21 on its Clean Power Plan to cut U.S. emissions by a third over the next 15 years.

Schools Decriminalize Discipline
Los Angeles
Students caught misbehaving in the nation's second largest school district will be sent to the principal's office rather than the courthouse as part of sweeping disciplinary reforms announced Tuesday by Los Angeles schools.
Under the new policy, police officers at Los Angeles Unified School District won't arrest or cite students for low-level offenses like possessing alcohol or marijuana but will instead refer students to administrators or counselors - a shift that educators and justice officials say will prevent students from becoming mired in the criminal justice system.
The decriminalization of student discipline marks the latest rollback to "zero tolerance" policies that were instituted in the 1970s and 1980s and intensified in the wake of the Columbine school shooting. School districts from California to Florida have instituted so-called restorative justice measures, which aim to address the underlying reasons for misconduct rather than mete out harsh punishments. The Obama administration in January issued recommendations favoring conflict resolution over arrests and citations.
"It really is in low-income communities of color that we've seen this increase in law enforcement presence," said Ruth Cusick, an attorney with pro bono law firm Public Counsel who helped negotiate the policy changes with the district's police force.
Of the approximately 9,000 arrests and tickets issued to students in the 2011-2012 school year, 93 percent involved black and Latino students, according to data provided by the district to the Labor/Community Strategy Center. And last school year, black students made up one-third of those suspended although they account for about 11 percent of the total student population.

Under Threat
Pangolins
Hunted for generations for its tasty meat, the scaly-skinned pangolin is under threat in Gabon as demand for the small mammal surges in Asia, where it is used in traditional medicine.
A timid and strange-looking creature, the pangolin is rarely seen in the wild, emerging only at night.
But in the markets of Libreville, the capital of this west African equatorial state, one will see plenty among the crocodiles, porcupines, gazelles and other bushmeat favoured by the Gabonese.
Weighing up to 35 kilos (77 pounds), the giant pangolin is a protected species yet still hunted, with specimens selling for 100,000 to 130,000 Central African Francs (150 to 200 euros, $200 to 260).
In traditional Chinese medicine, the scales are used as an aphrodisiac, to restore youthful energy or to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis.
