M Is FOR MASHUP - August 12th, 2009
Yo Ho Ho & A Bottle of Mashups!
By DJ Useo
You know, a lot of people have this perception, false or not, that bootlegging music by mashing or whatever is no different than just outright stealing. To investigate this belief I am going to 'pirate' all the parts of this article from other posts. See if you can tell the difference.>>>>>>>>>>

They also feature other artists from around the globe such as Marc Johnce, who lays down this first monster which is a mash of Evermore's "Hey Boys And Girls (Diamond Cut Dub)" and Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Comin'.",Electro Priest.Next up is a new one from founder KrazyBen and his take on the popular source material of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams." It's definitely in key and a great mix - the bassline from M People's "Movin' On Up" fits in like a glove, and adds some much needed juice to the original, making it sound almost more like a remix than a mashup. I wouldn't mind a little less sax, but ya gotta work with the material, and I can't say it doesn't fit.Last up is another one from one of the founders, this time Clive$ter, who combines Autokratz's excellent new single "Always More" with Indeep's classic "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life." This here is the "healthy version." He made the track originally with some coughing from Scotch's "Disco Band" but I guess some people thought it unnecessary. Probably true, you don't need more than this right here.
Dj Fac 'You Got Another Bang Comin'(Brevi vs. Judas Priest) Stix Review By: DJ Not-I
Pros: Dub and British metal - in this case, a winning combination! JP flows comfortably over the Brevi loops and the dub is tough enough to support the vocals. The additional guitar bits and gunshots are a nice touch and the sound is rock solid, making this an enjoyable track.
Cons: Despite the extras, this mash doesn't really develop, let alone climax. I kept waiting for the full drums to kick in and was a little disappointed to hear the same repeated loop instead.
Tips: None. I'll just say that compared to some of your other mash-ups, this one sounds a tad routine. It's a very good mash, don't get me wrong, but in my opinion lacks the extra push (e.g. some drum samples or a few more elements from the JP track) to make it great.

Matt Hite - I dropped this one at Electro Bootie last weekend and it went over huge. I thought it deserved a proper release and so did the kind folks at Audioporn Central. In fact, it's featured today on the APC as an Illegal Sunday World Premiere!

About three years ago, Phil Lee's wife said he needed a hobby. He was now in his 50s, she reminded him, and a man that age needs something to occupy his time-an activity to fill those spare, quiet moments as he contemplates the dimming sunset. By God, you're right, Phil Lee thought. He started throwing knives.

RICHARD ROEPER: Hughes' 'Ferris' is one of Roeper's favorites (suntimes.com)
For years I've had people ask me, "Do you really think 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' is the greatest movie ever made?" Of course not. I never said that -- or if I did, it was said in jest. But what I have said, and what I still say, is that "Ferris" is one of my favorite movies of all time. It has one of the highest "repeatability" factors of any film I've ever seen. As is the case with "The Godfather" movies, with "Caddyshack," with "Pulp Fiction," with "The Maltese Falcon" and with a hundred more of my favorite films, I can watch it again and again.
Roger Ebert: PAPER HEART (PG; 3 stars)
To describe Charlyne Yi as a whimsical comedian doesn't quite capture the full flavor. She may be the first female in the history of MySpace to claim she is 10 years older than she really is. She appears naive, clueless, a little simple, but she's playing us. She embodies that persona in "Paper Heart," a quasi-documentary about love that is sweet, true and perhaps a little deceptive.

Q: A well-known doctor has advocated drinking up to four cups of coffee a day, saying that it's not only not hazardous, but healthy. Do you agree with this?
A: I certainly enjoy a good cup of coffee after a nice meal, primarily for the taste and experience. However, I am also familiar with the health benefits of coffee. In fact, a 2005 study by researchers at the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pa., determined that coffee accounts for most of the antioxidants Americans receive!

John Waters: Leslie Van Houten: A Friendship, Part 1 of 5 ), are advocating for her release. She reportedly has been a model prisoner completing all available prison programs and assisting other inmates with these programs. She has earned two college degrees and has maintained a clean disciplinary record. She has accepted full responsibility for her actions...

Trevor Project Donation
Daniel Radcliffe
Daniel Radcliffe has made a donation to a US charity which helps suicidal young gay men and women.
The 20-year-old Harry Potter star made a large donation to the Trevor Project, which runs a 24-hour helpline offering support to "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning" (LGBTQ) young people to try to reduce the number who attempt to take their own lives.
The actor recently told Attitude magazine he "loathed" homophobia and said he hoped his support would raise the charity's profile.
"It's extremely distressing to consider that in 2009 suicide is a top three killer of young people, and it's truly devastating to learn that LGBTQ youth are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers.

Finale Date Set
"King of the Hill"
Fox's animated comedy "King of the Hill" will bow out after 13 seasons with an hour-long finale on Sunday, September 13, at 8 p.m.
The show revolves around the family of Hank Hill (Mike Judge). In the finale, "The Boy Can't Help It" / "The Honeymooners," the Hills' teenage son, Bobby (Pamela Adlon), is being teased by girls in his class who pretend to be interested in inviting him as a date for the homecoming dance. Hank, meanwhile, is shocked when his mother announces she is marrying a man she has known only for a few weeks.
The Emmy-winning "King of the Hill" was created by Judge and Greg Daniels.

More House Arrest
Aung San Suu Kyi
A Myanmar court convicted Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi on Tuesday of violating her house arrest by allowing an uninvited American to stay at her home. The head of the military-ruled country ordered the democracy leader to serve an 18-month sentence under house arrest.
The 64-year-old opposition leader has already spent 14 of the last 20 years in detention, mostly under house arrest, and the extension will remove her from the political scene when the junta stages elections next year.
The sentence, which drew international condemnation, was handed down along with a stretch of seven years with hard labor for the American intruder, 53-year-old John Yettaw.
In the end, Suu Kyi's term was less severe than the maximum sentence she faced - five years in prison - and shorter than the one the court initially ordered Tuesday - three years with hard labor.

Banned From Travel
Lubna Hussein
Sudan has barred Lubna Hussein, a woman who faces 40 lashes for wearing trousers in violation of decency laws, from traveling abroad, she said Tuesday.
Hussein said she tried to leave for Lebanon Tuesday after a television channel asked her to appear in a program there.
"It emerged when I tried to get an exit visa that my name was on a blacklist," she told Reuters. "There is no way to get out of Sudan."
Hussein was arrested at a party in July and, with 12 other women, charged with being indecently dressed. A former reporter, Hussein has publicized her case, posing in loose trousers for photos and calling journalists to support her.

Cable Coverage Differs
Health Care
Fox News Channel cut away from President Barack Obama's town hall meeting on health care reform Tuesday as he faced a far more polite crowd than has attended many meetings hosted by members of Congress recently. CNN and MSNBC carried the session in full.
The loud public debates have been a tonic for cable news networks during normally quiet August. The audience for Fox's Bill O'Really last Thursday was a half-million more than on a typical evening this year, and he credited his network's willingness to listen to health care reform opponents for helping bring in viewers.
The loud protests have dominated coverage and put the White House on the defensive. Nearly 60 percent of the time on cable and radio talk shows last week was spent on health care, much of that time debating whether the angry protests were genuine or orchestrated, according to the Project for Excellence in Journalism.
