Some bands are so enduring that they compel home producers to rework their music through sheer joy of content. The Beatles are that kind of band. There's actually an entire forum of bootleggers regularly manufacturing new "Fab Four" mixes. The King of Beatles Bootlegs is clearly a skilled fellow called "TjT". He's proved his mashup mettle consistently through the years through the release of many singles, albums, & projects. Through almost innumerable releases like his "Patamixical Science" series to his 16 cd set "Magical Mystery Mixes" TjT has displayed vast ability, & passion.

TjT has been very busy with lots of important offline activity, but has still worked up his penultimate masterpiece in the form of "The Edge Of Helter Skelter", his new collection of 20 Beatles mashups. In only the two days since it's posting, I've found it to be a bootleg masterpiece, full of genius mixing, & superb production. Some of the album is Beatles on Beatles mixes that will blow your mind through amazing juxtaposition. Some of the album is Beatles versus other classic artists. Listen for elements of The Cure, The Beach Boys, Cream, The Clash, & plenty more. I've heard the collection well enough now to categorically state it RULES!
I own every single Beatles cd, & this set fits in so wonderfully with the rest. There's pairings of early Beatles vs late era Beatles, sometimes multiple tracks in the same mix. I was quite impressed with the entire release, but some really grabbed me personally because I love the pairings. "A Day In The Life" vs Yes' "Wurm" leaves me delighted. "Memory Of The Free Word" is David Bowie vs The Beatles, & embodies all the best of the "Hippy" sixties combined in one song. Right before the last track, you'll find "Crippled Slumbers", a damn incredible tune that unites the "Abbey Road" medley & John Lennon's solo track "Crippled Inside". Excellence, & not a brag in any way.
I could easily go on praising this cut & loop masterpiece, but instead, I offer you

As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to

ESPN Suspends Apologist

ESPN has suspended outspoken sportscaster Stephen A. Smith for a week because of his comments about domestic abuse suggesting women should make sure that they don't do anything to provoke an attack.
Stephen A. SmithSmith's commentary occurred during a discussion on ESPN2's ''First Take'' last Friday about the NFL's two-game suspension of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice following charges he assaulted his now-wife. The remarks attracted widespread attention, including a stinging rebuke online from a fellow ESPN personality.
During the Rice discussion, Smith alluded to women in abuse cases when he said, ''Let's make sure we don't do anything to provoke wrong action ... we got to also make sure that you can do your part to do whatever you can do to make, to try to make sure it doesn't happen again.''
Smith, during his apology, said it wasn't his intention to say that women could be responsible for their own abuse. ''It was not what I was trying to say,'' he said. ''Yet the failure to clearly articulate something different lies squarely on my shoulder.''
Smith didn't explain the point that he was trying to make.

OkCupid's disclosure that the popular dating website intentionally misled couples about their suitability could open it up to a U.S. Federal Trade Commission inquiry, according to lawyers and experts in consumer-protection law.
On Monday, President Christian Rudder disclosed in a blog post that OKCupid had conducted experiments on its users, including a test to see whether its assessment of their matchability led to successful dating.
"To test this, we took pairs of bad matches...and told them they were exceptionally good for each other," Rudder wrote. "When we tell people they are a good match, they act as if they are. Even when they should be wrong for each other."
OkCupid's actions, at least four legal experts said, appear to be in violation of a provision in the FTC act that prohibits "unfair and deceptive" practices by a company that result in misleading or harming consumers.

Wild Horse Round-Up

Federal land managers began rounding up wild horses on public land in central Utah on Monday as part of efforts to cut herd numbers and placate ranchers who say the animals destroy range land vital for cattle grazing.
Working with a pair of helicopters, a crew of U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) staff and contractors captured 45 horses in the Blawn Wash area near Minersville, about 220 miles southwest of Salt Lake City, agency spokeswoman Lisa Reid said.
Over the next eight days they hope to gather a total of 140 Mustangs in Blawn Wash, one of four designated management areas in the region. Under the BLM's own rules, no horses should be in Blawn Wash and the region as a whole is capped at 170 horses.
Last week, however, agency staff counted 775 horses during a flyover, Reid said.
The gathered horses are offered to the public for adoption and cannot be euthanized.

More Mysterious Craters

Two more craters of unknown origin have been spotted in Russia's Siberia region, weeks after a similar-looking hole was found in the isolated northernmost area, a local paper reported.
The Siberian Times, an English-language newspaper, published pictures of two new giant holes discovered by reindeer herders, one located in the Yamal and the other in the Taymyr peninsula, both above the Arctic circle.
Russian state TV reported earlier this month that a giant hole had appeared in the gas-rich Yamal peninsula where temperatures plummet below -50 degrees Celsius (-58 degrees Fahrenheit) and the sun barely rises in winter.
A Russian scientific expedition arrived at the site to inspect the first crater, nicknamed the "Yamal black hole", earlier this month, according to a recent report by state-run Vesti.ru website.

Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura was awarded more than $1.8 million in damages on Tuesday after a federal jury found he had been defamed in a book by an ex-Navy SEAL who claimed the two were in a bar fight.
In an 8-2 decision, the jury awarded Ventura $1.35 million for unjust enrichment and $500,000 for defamation over the book, written by Chris Kyle, a former Navy SEAL who was killed in 2013 at a Texas shooting range by a troubled Iraq war veteran he was trying to mentor.
Kyle wrote in his best-selling book, "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History," that he got into a fight with a man who made disparaging remarks about the Navy SEALS.
Kyle later identified the man as Ventura. The jury deliberated for six days before announcing its verdict in a U.S. district court in St. Paul, Minnesota.

On Monday, Geraldo Rivera, no stranger to controversy, stirred things up again while appearing on the Fox News show "Outnumbered."
In a segment on what 20-somethings really want in a marriage, the talk turned to the concept of "beta marriages," in which the union can be formalized or dissolved after a two-year trial period with no paperwork or hassle, allowing partners to see if they want to continue beyond a short-term commitment.
Rivera, after noting that his current marriage is almost 11 years strong, acknowledged that he has been divorced four times, essentially having had his share of beta marriages himself.
Mentioning his three daughters, he went on to explain that he is against the idea of beta marriages, arguing that while men bring money to a marriage, women bring their youth, and that a woman's youth is precious.

The release of carbon dioxide into the air from power plant smokestacks to the tailpipe on your car could pose a risk to red king crab and other lucrative fisheries in Alaska, a new report says.
Ocean water becomes more acidic when it absorbs carbon dioxide released by human sources, such as the burning of fossil fuels. Increased ocean acidification could harm important Alaska commercial and subsistence fisheries and communities that rely heavily on them, according to the new research aimed at spurring discussion on how to address the changes.
The research, led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, was to be published Tuesday in the online journal Progress in Oceanography.
According to the NOAA, Alaska's high-latitude coastal waters are more vulnerable to acidification because cold water can absorb more carbon dioxide. Circulation patterns also bring more acidic deep-ocean water to the surface, the agency said.

Conservationists Warn
Pangolins
They've been described as walking artichokes and the most trafficked mammals in the world. Now, conservationists warn that pangolins, or scaly anteaters, could be eaten out of existence if illegal hunting and poaching continue.
In the latest update of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, all eight pangolin species were listed as "critically endangered," "endangered" or "vulnerable." Today (July 29), a group of scientists and conservationists tasked with studying pangolins for the IUCN issued an action plan outlining steps that should be taken to save the armored, insect-eating creatures.
"In the 21st century, we really should not be eating species to extinction - there is simply no excuse for allowing this illegal trade to continue," Jonathan Baillie, co-chair of the pangolin specialist group for the IUCN's Species Survival Commission and conservation programs director at the Zoological Society of London, said in a statement.
Pangolins, native to Asia and Africa, are the world's only mammals with true scales made of keratin. Despite international trade bans, pangolin meat and scales still fetch high prices on the black market. Demand is especially high in China and Vietnam, where pangolin parts are used in medicine and served as a culinary delicacy.
Though the scope of the black market is difficult to quantify, conservationists estimate that more than 1 million pangolins have been taken from the wild in just the last decade. The four species in Asia are the most severely threatened. The Chinese pangolin and the Sunda pangolin are now considered critically endangered, while the Indian pangolin and Philippine pangolin are now listed as endangered. But as the populations of Asian pangolin species are becoming more scarce, traders are increasingly looking to Africa to meet the demand for pangolin.
