M Is FOR MASHUP - July 23rd, 2014
Go Home Productions Returns!
By DJ Useo
The first mashup I ever heard was crafted & posted by Go Home Productions.
It was the Beatles vs the Monkees
I loved that mix so much, I was determined to figure out how he made it. Since that occurrence, I've continued to be motivated by his excellent mashups. Go Home Productions has achieved a lot of success in the intervening years, releasing label records, and being a main part of the tv show
ADDICTIVE TV
( www.addictive.tv/ ) .
GHP ( as he's often affectionately referred to ) made a lot of killer mixes over quite a few years, with many gaining label release. He's also collected them together as bootleg albums. He released "Bones: A Collection of GHP Snacks 2008-2012", "This Was Pop (2002-2007)", & the awesome "Spliced Krispies".
In a move destined to heap further praise on him, GHP has now made available "Spliced Krispies Vol 2". Wow, does this collection ever please. You'll marvel at GHP's vast ability to perfectly mix & match songs of wildly varying styles.
You can already find many past mashup videos from Go Home Productions here
( www.youtube.com/user/markv1967 )
including those released in conjunction with the first "Spliced Krispies" volume. Now, as if the sequel album isn't enough, GHP gives us a new video for all the contained mixes. FInd them on youtube, or on the mp3 page of his site. One thing I like better than an audio mashup is to have superb videos to experience them with. You'll LOVE this new album, & the videos only make it all better. Look for
all the above mentioned content here
I promise you, you'll find much more on his site to savor.
Mix Of The Week
Budtheweiser has continued his tradition of making excellent long mix versions of the SUMMER BOOTY The Summer Mashup Album series. Enjoy the stream, ( or download ) of his incredible "Summer Booty 2014 The Big Mix". It's a whopping 3 hours, 14 minutes, & 50 seconds!
( hearthis.at/Budtheweiser/summer-booty-2014-the-big-mix/ )
It's the most Summery mashups you'll ever hear, & it flies by, seeming like only an hour. Big praise to Budtheweiser.
Mashup Tip
Don't call yourself "Go Home Productions" as your dj name. It's already taken.
Latest Useo Thing
I continued my scheme to post three tracks at once, with one being "normal", one being "semi-strange", & one being totally out there. Here's the info on the three.
( country vs techno )
01-"Rattle my Eleven Bones" ( Secret Sisters vs Federico Milani )
( soundcloud.com/dj-useo/rattle-my-eleven-bones-secret-sisters-vs-federico-milani )
( electro vs minimal tech )
02-"Mirror Minions" ( Little Dragon vs Zir Rool & MinimalFlex )
( hearthis.at/vXMfxz7w/mirror-minions-little-dragon-vs-zir-rool-minimalflex/ )
( classic new wave vs metal )
03-"C'est Comme Ca Creature" ( Les Ritas Mitsouko vs Atreyu )
It's too soon to say which is the most popular, but generally, the very strange tracks do the best.

Someday, someone will mash the Monkees with the Beatles.

BartCop
Hello Bartcop fans,
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to
active@bartcop.com.
Bart's final wish was to pay off the house mortgage for Mrs. Bart who is
overwhelmed and so very grateful for the support she has received.
Anyone wanting to make a donation can click on this the yellow donate
button on bartcop.com
But - I need you all to help keep this going. This note
isn't going to directly reach all of Bart's fans. So if you can repost
it on blogs and discussion boards so people can sign up then when we
figure out what's next we can let more people know. This list is just
over 600 but like to get it up to at least 10,000 pretty quick. So
here's the signup link for this email list.

Highest-Earning Actor
Robert Downey Jr
Robert Downey Jr, the star of Disney's Marvel superhero film franchises "Iron Man," and "The Avengers," is Hollywood's highest paid actor for the second consecutive year, with estimated earnings of $75 million, according to Forbes.com.
The 49-year-old star made most of his money from June 2013 to June 2014 from "Iron Man 3," which made $1.2 billion at the box office and assured him the top spot again in the annual ranking.
Former wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, 42, who starred in "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," and the "Fast and Furious," films, jumped into second place this year from fifth in 2013 with earnings of $52 million, followed by "Hangover," star Bradley Cooper, 39, with $46 million.
"The Wolf of Wall Street," star Leonardo DiCaprio, 39, had a lucrative year with two hit films and came in fourth at $39 million in earnings, while Australian "Thor" actor Chris Hemsworth, rounded out the top five with $37 million.

Gershwin Prize for Popular Song
Billy Joel
Billy Joel, the regular guy from Long Island who insists he's not a very good piano player, will be next recipient of the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the U.S. Library of Congress announced this morning.
He joins good company - the previous honorees are Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Sir Paul McCartney, Carole King and the songwriting duo Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It's the second major Washington-based award for Joel in two years, this coming on the heels of his being named a Kennedy Center honoree last year.
Calling Joel a "storyteller of the highest order," Librarian of Congress James H. Billington said in a statement that, "There is an intimacy to his songwriting that bridges the gap between the listener and the worlds he shares through music. When you listen to a Billy Joel song, you know about the people and the place and what happened there."
The prize, to be formally awarded with a luncheon and musical performance in Washington in November, is given by the Library as a lifetime achievement award to a living musical artist.

Tree Felled By Beetles
George Harrison
A tree planted in memorial to late Beatles guitarist George Harrison following his death in Los Angeles in 2001 has been killed by bark beetles amid California's epic drought, a local official said on Tuesday.
The pine tree, which was dedicated with a plaque to Harrison at the head of a hiking trail in the city's Griffith Park, was among a number of trees that have succumbed to the beetles this year, City Councilman Tom LaBonge said.
The sapling had grown to 12 feet in height by the time it was discovered dead in June and removed by city workers, he said, adding that Harrison's widow, Olivia, had been notified.
LaBonge said he expected to see a new tree planted in remembrance of Harrison in the fall.

Aliens Will Go To Hell So Let's Stop Looking For Them
Creationist Ken Ham
Creationist Ken Ham, who recently debated Bill Nye the Science Guy over the origins of the universe, is calling for an end to the search for extraterrestrial life because aliens probably don't exist -- and if they do, they're going to Hell anyway.
"You see, the Bible makes it clear that Adam's sin affected the whole universe," Ham wrote on his blog on Sunday. "This means that any aliens would also be affected by Adam's sin, but because they are not Adam's descendants, they can't have salvation."
The post was driven in part by NASA experts saying that they expect to find evidence of alien life within the next 20 years.
But Ham, president and CEO of Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky., said we probably are alone. He wrote "earth was specially created," and the entire hunt for extraterrestrials is "really driven by man's rebellion against God in a desperate attempt to supposedly prove evolution!"
If aliens do exist, however, Ham said even Jesus can't save them: Jesus did not become the "GodKlingon" or the "GodMartian"! Only descendants of Adam can be saved. God's Son remains the "Godman" as our Savior. In fact, the Bible makes it clear that we see the Father through the Son (and we see the Son through His Word). To suggest that aliens could respond to the gospel is just totally wrong.

Not A 'True Blood' Fan
TedCruz
On Sunday, the kinky-gory HBO series aired an episode in which two of its characters dressed as stereotypical Republicans and attended a Cruz fundraiser that quickly devolved into a massacre. The conservative Texas state Senator has responded, and it's a doozy.
On Tuesday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Republicunt) responded to last Sunday's episode of HBO's True Blood-the one in which foul-mouthed vampires and assault weapon-blasting yakuza thugs invade a Ted Cruz fundraiser thrown at the George W. Bush Presidential Library. Bloody mayhem, naturally, ensued.
The senator from Texas was not impressed. From his Facebook page: Of all the places I never thought to be mentioned, HBO's True Blood vampire show would have to be near the top of the list. Sunday night, they aired a misogynist and profanity-ridden episode where Texas Republicans are murdered attending a "Ted Cruz fundraiser."
Well, I'm sorry to have lost the vampire vote, but am astonished (and amused) that HBO is suggesting that hard-core leftists are blood-sucking fiends....
Cruz's message appeared to indicate that what irked him most about the episode was the use of the term "Republicunt" by one of the main characters. The Republican senator has previously lashed out at liberal Hollywood mega-producer Harvey Weinstein for "hypocrisy" on gun rights. As for products of popular culture that don't anger Ted Cruz, his favorite movie is The Princess Bride and he enjoys quoting Toby Keith while slamming Obamacare.

Gaza Office Evacuated
Al-Jazeera
TV channel Al-Jazeera evacuated its bureau in Gaza when it came under fire on Tuesday, the Qatar-based network said.
Two warning shots were fired at the 11-storey Jalaa building in central Gaza City, housing local and international media as well as private apartments, an AFP correspondent reported.
"Two very precise shots were fired straight into our building," said Al-Jazeera reporter in Gaza Stefanie Dekker, according to the channel's English-language website.
The empty missiles were directed at Al-Jazeera's office, prompting journalists, along with a number of families who had sought refuge there from Sunday's fighting in Shejaiya, to leave.

Caught Speeding
Mrs. Palin
Sarah Palin (R-Quitter) was caught speeding last Wednesday in her hometown of Wasilla, Alaska, according to TMZ.
"I wasn't speeding, I was qualifying," Palin told TMZ.
She was driving 63 mph in a 45 mph zone in her Toyota Tundra pick-up truck, according to the report.
The former Alaska governor claimed Sammy Hager's "I Can't Drive 55" on the radio caused her to speed up.

USA Pulls Production From Israel
'Dig'
A day after FX series Tyrant made the decision to permanently relocate production of its freshman season from Israel to Turkey, USA Network limited series DIG
When the Gaza attack started a week ago,DIG extended its planned hiatus by week while the network and producers were exploring alternatives and holding conversation with the project's insurance company. The series, starring Jason Isaacs as an FBI agent investigating a troubling murder of a young woman archeologist in Jerusalem, took a break after filming the first episode of its six-episode order. The pilot episode was shot throughout Israel, including Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem. The decision comes as FAA this morning banned all flights to Israel for the next 24 hours following reports of a Palestinian rocket strike landing close to Israel's Ben Gurion Airport. And yesterday, the US Department of State warned Americans against traveling to Israel and the Gaza Strip.
In September, the Showtime series Homeland, from Tyrant producer Fox 21, moved third-season scenes that were planned to be shot in Israel to Morocco over concerns about the situation in Syria. (DIG, Homeland and Tyrant all share a co-creator, Israeli writer-producer Gideon Raff). CBS' biblical miniseries The Dovekeepers also originally eyed shooting there before deciding to go elsewhere, ultimately settling on Malta. So far, about 565 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and 25 Israeli soldiers have been killed in the Gaza battle.
