Best Of Mashups 2013 Roundup!
By DJ Useo
One of my favorite things about the new year rolling around is the many best of the previous year collections that appear. Allow me now to present you some of the best! I admit these all suit my tastes, but I've played them all a lot already, and I'm confident you'll find them highly pleasing. ( And they don't cost a cent! )
01-"BEST OF BOOTIE 2013" as compiled by A PLUS D is available in three different versions, a-Unmixed version-full individual tracks, b-Continuous Mix Version, and c-Continuous Mix Version, Divided into 22 tracks. Now a that's class act! But wait, it doesn't end there! You also get, for FREE, a 10-track bonus disc. Imagine being at a fantastic live club mashup concert with the best blends available. That's this collection! The selection of tracks and producers is totally satisfying.

02-"BEST OF BOOTIE RIO 2013" is just what you think! An affiliated offshoot of the BOOTIE franchise, but located in marvelous RIO! The collection is 21 "melhores mashups do ano produzidos por brasileiros". As per the USA version, it contains superb mixes from many of the top bootleggers south of the border. There's also a 2nd disc with wonderful producers gringos who reprocess Brazilian music. If you need a break from the full-on Brazilian style of disc one, you may find yourself easily enjoying the gringo disc 2. Me, I was into both! They come in mixed, unmixed, and mixed single tracks, too. The tracks will have you seeking out more by the contributors. These guys rule!

Once more, the release also is available as a long mix version. A really fantastic long mix version, too. Prepare for delight.

04-DRA'man "Best of 2013" comes to you as single tracks to stream, or download. Believe me, they are all finest kind mixes that you'll enjoy for many years. ( "Hey, Marty, check out this mashup! It's from 2013!" ) DRA'man can mix from any source with always consistant results. Have a gander at the pairings he's mixed with this 30-track assortment! It rarely gets better than this.
( soundcloud.com/draman/sets/draman-best-of-2013 )
05-"Michmash - Best of 2013" is a 30-track selection that never dips in quality. There's plenty of genre clash that sounds like it started that way. Have a look at the artists mashed, and you'll soon be playing them loud and proud! I always try to keep up with Michmash, yet there were some here I missed, and I wouldn't want to. Been playing this album lots. You will, too. You can

Hello Bartcop fans,
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to

Extends Deadline On Net Neutrality
FCC
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday pushed back to July 18 the first deadline to submit comments on the agency's proposed new Internet traffic rules after a surge in traffic overwhelmed its online filing system.
Companies, consumer advocates, lawmakers and citizens had sent nearly 680,000 comments on the FCC's proposed so-called net neutrality rules -- which guide how Internet service providers (ISPs) manage web traffic on their networks -- as the deadline for first comments approached on Tuesday.
For much of Tuesday, however, the database appeared to be down or unaccessible, which FCC spokeswoman Kim Hart attributed to an "overwhelming surge in traffic."
"Please be assured that the Commission is aware of these issues and is committed to making sure that everyone trying to submit comments will have their views entered into the record," she said, announcing a delay of the deadline to midnight on July 18.
After that, commenters will be able to reply to each other's initial submissions through Sept. 10.

Didn't Authorize New Memoir
Harper Lee
The reclusive author of "To Kill a Mockingbird," one of the most acclaimed novels of the 20th century, says she never gave her approval to a new memoir that portrays itself as a rare, intimate look into the lives of the writer and her older sister in small-town Alabama.
"Rest assured, as long as I am alive any book purporting to be with my co-operation is a falsehood," Harper Lee said in a letter released Monday, just as the new book, "The Mockingbird Next Door: Life with Harper Lee" was about to released. The book was written by Marja Mills, a former Chicago Tribune reporter, who moved next door to Lee and her sister, Alice, in 2004 and remained there for 18 months.
Mills responded in a statement, saying that Lee, known to her friends as Nelle, and her sister "were aware I was writing this book and my friendship with both of them continued during and after my time in Monroeville. The stories they shared with me that I recount in the book speak for themselves,"
Mills' book describes a friendship that blossomed after she first travelled to Alabama in 2001 to write about Lee and Monroeville for the Tribune when "To Kill a Mockingbird" was selected to launch Chicago's One Book, One Chicago program. She describes her surprise when Alice invited her in to chat and her shock when Lee called her later and visited her the next day at her motel. Lee did not participate in the newspaper story.

Loses Three More Cast Members
'Saturday Night Live'
"Saturday Night Live" has given the boot to two more freshman cast members, and is losing one of its more recognizable players, sources confirm to Variety.
NBC has chosen not to renew the contracts of newcomers Noël Wells and John Milhiser while Nasim Pedrad, who appeared on the show for five seasons, is leaving to co-star in the new Fox comedy "Mulaney."
"SNL" usually trims a cast member or two before its fall premiere, so the terminations aren't a big surprise.
The news comes after Brooks Wheelan, a first-year cast member, announced on Twitter on Monday that he was fired from the show.

Craig Ferguson to Moderate
Comic-Con
Craig Ferguson is making great plans for this month's Comic-Con.
The outgoing Late Late Show host has been tapped to moderate this year's The Big Bang Theory panel, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Set for Friday, July 25 from 10-11 a.m. in Ballroom 20, the session will for the second year in a row go inside the writers' room to share secrets behind TV's No. 1 broadcast comedy series and discuss Bob Newhart's Star Wars journey as the Emmy-winning Professor Proton and more.
Last year's panel was moderated by co-star Melissa Rauch (Bernadette), with Johnny Galecki (Leonard) making a surprise appearance after standing in line in full costume (as Princess Leia's Bounty Hunter from Star Wars.
Following the panel, Ferguson will head to Hall H from 1:40-2:40 p.m. to moderate HBO's Game of Thrones session with the cast and creators.

Streaming On Verizon Keeps Getting Worse
Netflix
So now we know why Verizon decided to come out and accuse Netflix of essentially choosing to make its own traffic slow on its network - it seemingly wanted to preempt some more bad news in the most recent Netflix ISP rankings. Ars Technica notices that Netflix's performance on Verizon's FiOS network tanked by another 17% over the last month, which is a major embarrassment for Verizon given that it had already come to an agreement with Netflix months ago to improve the connections that Netflix used to send traffic through its network.
Overall, the average Netflix streaming speed on FiOS dropped from 1.9Mbps in May to a dismal 1.58Mbps in June, which is an even bigger drop in speeds from prior months, when streaming on FiOS dropped from 1.99Mbps in April to 1.9Mbps in May. By plunging all the way down to 1.58Mbps, Netflix's streaming speed on FiOS is coming dangerously close to going below the 1.5Mbps threshold that Netflix says is the minimum recommended speed.
The huge drop in speeds is definitely a black eye for Verizon because Netflix streaming speeds on Comcast shot upward almost immediately after the two companies signed an agreement to give Netflix a direct connection to the network. Verizon apparently wasn't ready to implement the upgrades and we might not see real improvements to Netflix performance across its entire footprint until the end of the year.

100 Rs Endorse Democrat For Governor
Kansas
Democratic challenger Paul Davis sought Tuesday to give his campaign for Kansas governor a bipartisan boost by announcing endorsements from more than 100 moderate Republicans who've split with conservative GOP Gov. Sam Brownback over education and tax policy.
The disaffected Republicans include outgoing Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger, three former Kansas Senate presidents and three former Kansas House speakers. More than half are former legislators, and the list includes former U.S. Rep. Jan Meyers, who represented the Kansas City-area 3rd District from 1985 to 1997.
They announced that they formed Republicans for Kansas Values because of their concerns about the aggressive personal income tax cuts enacted at Brownback's urging. They called the reductions a reckless fiscal experiment and suggested Brownback's administration has been hostile to public education.
Davis' campaign staged a news conference at a Topeka hotel with 40 of the disaffected Republicans so that the bipartisan tone would draw a sharp contrast with rallies Brownback's re-election campaign had on Monday in Olathe and Wichita. Those events featured former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum, a favorite of Republicans opposing abortion and gay marriage, and were designed to energize the governor's core, conservative supporters.

Stolen Vans Found
Tillamook Cheese
Three bright orange Tillamook cheese vans that were stolen over the weekend in Central California were located undamaged, police said on Tuesday.
Manteca police said authorities found the restored Volkswagen minibuses, worth $100,000 each, in a recently rented storage locker in Copperopolis around 8:30 p.m. Monday. They were stolen from a hotel about 50 miles away in Manteca, where they had stopped on a tour promoting the Oregon-based Tillamook County Creamery Association's dairy products.
Authorities served a search warrant on the locker after a task force that includes the California Highway Patrol and the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office received a phone tip, Manteca Police Chief Nick Obligacion said.
The vehicles were in their original condition. Authorities have identified two suspects, though Obligacion declined to release their names or provide any information about their alleged connection to the thefts. He also would not elaborate on the tip authorities received.

Shiny Dental Implants
Celts
Sparkly, gold grills aren't just for Flavor Flav; ancient Celts may have sought out flashy smiles as well. Archaeologists have unearthed a dental implant in a grave in France that dates to the third century B.C.
The implant - an iron pin that may have screwed into the gum to hold a decorative tooth in place - was found in the mouth of a skeleton in a Celtic burial site in La Chêne, France. The tooth was described in the June issue of the journal Antiquity.
Though it's not clear what the false tooth would have been made of, it was likely put in to enhance the owner's smile, said Guillaume Seguin, an archaeologist at Archeosphere in France and co-author of the study.
"In Le Chêne, the replaced tooth is a central maxillary incisor," which is one of the "most visible teeth when you speak or when you smile," Seguin told Live Science in an email. "So there, the intention was probably aesthetic."

Rosalind Nyman Joel
Billy Joel's mother, who inspired him to write "Rosalinda's Eyes," has died in New York at age 92.
Rosalind Nyman Joel died Sunday on Long Island, said Claire Mercuri, a spokeswoman for the singer and songwriter.
"Rosalinda's Eyes," from Joel's 1978 album "52nd Street" was a tribute to his mother, who raised him alone after divorcing his father, Howard Joel, in 1957.
The lyrics include the words: "I've got music in my hands; The work is hard to find; But that don't get me down; Rosalinda understands."
Rosalind Joel worked in a clerical capacity for various businesses near her home in Hicksville and supported a number of charities.
Born in Brooklyn to English immigrants, she met her husband in 1942 at a City College musical production and married him three years later. Billy Joel was born in 1949. The couple later adopted Judy, the daughter of Rosalind's late sister Muriel.
Billy Joel endowed the Rosalind Joel Scholarship for the Performing Arts at City College in 1986.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to The Little Shelter animal rescue and adoption centre in Huntington, Long Island.
