Mashup Keepers Collected For You
By DJ Useo
I discovered mashups back in late 2003. Loved them right away, I did. However, I thought of them as a limited resource, sure to dry up quickly, so I collected as many as I could. Was I ever surprised when they picked up a big momentum that's increased yearly ever since. When I began doing live shows I found that some tracks had a mystic lure to the crowd. Just as with unmixed music, there's certain tunes that we refer to as 'floorfillas' that compel people to rush the dancefloor. ( Or crank up the volume, if you prefer. )
Over the years I've accrued so many excellent mashups that people love to hear again and again. No wonder, as there's literally a ton of excellent mixers lurking about the net. Armed with that knowledge, I gathered together a discs' worth of the real classics that I know from experience will thrill your ears. They're newly re-mastered for the ultimate sonic pleasure, and you can have them now with only a few right-clicks as the price.
The Institute Of Bootleggers Presents MASHUP KEEPERS" ( theinstituteofbootleggers.blogspot.com/2013/07/mashup-keepers-19-classic-bootlegs.html ) is lean, mean, and a bootleg machine. It has incredible tracks by only the best like 10000Spoons, Go Home Productions, The Kleptones and plenty more. I even had the audacity to include one of mine that always gets a rave reception. As for the music thats mixed on this collection you can find artists like Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, and The Doors, paired with newer artists like Calvin Harris, Kasabian, The White Stripes and gosh so many more.
This seems a good time to unveil the playlist. The mixers names might be unknown to you, but the source artists should interest you greatly.

Latest Useo Thing
I did a track for my next INTENSE PSYCHEDELIA album that has Elvis singing over Led Zeppelin. I was going to use it on the collection, but I bumped it off for one that was much more intense. You feel the benefit now because this mix might not be exactly intense, but it's a memorable, catchy listen. 'A Little Less Ramble Conversation' ( Elvis vs Led Zeppelin ) can be
listened to from here

Podgornio, The Mashup Psychic Predicts
A mashup by DJ Zebra will be featured in a big hit movie next May and will create a huge hunger for mashups in general. I'd say more, but I have a headache. Who has an aspirin?

Los Angeles Zoo
Jeff Wysaski
Visitors to the Los Angeles Zoo may have been greeted by some misinformation recently, courtesy of a comedian who posted fake facts about animals around the zoo.
Jeff Wysaski puts up fake signs in public places as part of his Obvious Plant project. He has posted photos on his Tumblr blog and social media of signs with absurd "facts" about animals that he put up around the L.A. Zoo.
One reads : "If you give a tiny trombone to 76 ducklings, they will lead the most adorable parade you've ever seen." Another says : "America's first president, George Washington, was actually 9 koalas stacked on top of each other."
L.A. Zoo spokeswoman April Spurlock says the signs were taken down shortly after they were posted June 30.

Night Court
Cleveland
Night court will be in session during the Republican National Convention.
Cleveland's Municipal Court will extend its hours during the convention to deal with an expected increase in arrests.
The court normally closes at 4:30 p.m. It will operate from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. during the convention that begins July 18.
Cleveland.com reports court officials also are making plans to use space in other buildings if courtrooms and jail space in the downtown Justice Center are filled.
The court typically processes about 200 people in arraignment and initial appearances each day, but it's getting ready to deal with as many as 1,000 people a day.

Rare Herd
White Deer
A rare herd of ghostly white deer that multiplied at a World War II weapons depot under the protection of the U.S. Army is now being nurtured by the site's new owner.
Seneca Iron Works owner Earl Martin has planted 15 acres of soybeans to improve the diet of the deer roaming the former Seneca Army Depot in the Finger Lakes, and is working with a nonprofit group to develop about 1,500 acres of the 7,000-acre site as a wildlife preserve and ecotourism park.
"The idea is to create tourism and wildlife conservation in the northern part of the depot and develop businesses in the southern portion," Bob Aronson, executive director of the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency, said in a recent interview.
Martin's winning $900,000 bid, announced last month, includes plans to create 200 jobs, expand his iron works business, establish about 20 Amish homesteads and renovate a short-line railroad.
The deer aren't albinos, but are a natural mutation of common white-tailed deer. In the wild, white deer have short lifespans, because they are easy targets for predators and hunters. But the 24-mile fence that encloses the depot and the Army's protective policies allowed the white deer to multiply in peace among more than 500 concrete munitions storage bunkers.

Drug Lord's Pet Hippos Roam
Colombia
More than 20 years after Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar died in a gunfight with police, a strange legacy survives him: his pet hippos.
Look out of the window in the dead of night in the village of Doradal and you may see one plodding down the street.
Police killed or locked up Escobar's drug gang, but not the hippos in his private zoo.
Left to themselves on his Napoles Estate, they bred to become what's said to be the biggest wild hippo herd outside Africa -- a local curiosity and a hazard.
Since hippos can live for up to 60 years, authorities are seeking a way to manage the herd over the long term.

Money Talks

Wealthy friends and donors of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton have chipped in nearly $330,000 to cover his legal defense against criminal charges of securities fraud, according to state filings made public Tuesday.
The list reveals for the first time those paying Paxton's legal costs while the Republican fights two felony counts of defrauding wealthy investors in the tech startup Servergy Inc. If convicted, Paxton faces 5 to 99 years in prison.
Paxton, who has pleaded not guilty, is also being sued by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in a separate court case over the same accusations: that he lured investors to Servergy, a data-storage company, without disclosing that he was being paid to recruit new backers.
Among those footing Paxton's legal bill are Preferred Medical CEO James Webb, who pitched in $100,000 and is a longtime donor to the state's top prosecutor. At least one is also a Servergy investor, Keresa Richardson, who gave $10,000 and told the Associated Press last year that Paxton was "the cleanest guy in the world" when asked about his name being linked to a federal investigation.
Paxton until now had not disclosed how he is paying for a team of high-powered attorneys - which at times included a former federal judge and former federal prosecutor - since being indicted last summer. Earlier this year, state ethics regulators denied giving Paxton their blessing to let him tap political donors to cover the cost.

Highway Cleanup
KKK
Dismissing an appeal on a technicality, Georgia's highest court granted a victory to a Ku Klux Klan group that has been seeking for years to participate in a state-run highway cleanup program.
The Georgia Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the state's appeal of a lower court decision that the state had violated the KKK group's free speech rights. The Department of Transportation filed its appeal incorrectly, leaving the high court without authority to consider its merits, the opinion said.
The state attorney general's office, which represents the department, is reviewing the decision and considering its options, spokesman Nicholas Genesi said in an email.
The north Georgia KKK group applied to join the state's Adopt-A-Highway program in May 2012, hoping to pick up litter along part of Route 515 in the Appalachian Mountains. The program was started in 1989 to get volunteers to clean up sections of roads in the state. In exchange, the Department of Transportation posts a sponsorship sign along the road with the program logo and the volunteer group's name.
The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation sued on behalf of the KKK group in September 2012, arguing that the state violated the group's right to free speech.

Kentucky Tax Dollars
Noah's Ark
A 510-foot-long, $100 million Noah's ark attraction built by Christians who say the biblical story really happened is ready to open in Kentucky this week.
Since its announcement in 2010, the ark project has rankled opponents who say the attraction will be detrimental to science education and shouldn't have won state tax incentives.
"I believe this is going to be one of the greatest Christian outreaches of this era in history," said Ken Ham, president of Answers in Genesis, the ministry that built the ark.
The ark will open to the public Thursday and Ham's group has estimated it will draw 2 million visitors in its first year, putting it on par with some of the big-ticket attractions in nearby Cincinnati.
The group says the ark is built based on dimensions in the Bible. Inside are museum-style exhibits: displays of Noah's family along with rows of cages containing animal replicas, including dinosaurs.

Teddy Rooney
Teddy Rooney, an actor, musician and a son of the late Mickey Rooney, has died. He was 66.
Rooney died Saturday in a convalescent home in Southern California after a long illness, his sister, Kelly, told The Hollywood Reporter.
His mother was model and actress Martha Vickers (The Big Sleep), the third of Mickey Rooney's eight wives. They were married from 1949-51.
Teddy Rooney appeared with his father as the son of his dad's legendary character (now a grown-up) in Andy Hardy Comes Home (1958) and on a 1960 installment of General Electric Theater, and, earlier, he acted alongside his mom on a 1957 episode of another CBS anthology series, Playhouse 90.
He also starred in such films as It Happened to Jane (1959) with Doris Day and Jack Lemmon and Seven Ways From Sundown (1960) with Audie Murphy and on TV shows including Shirley Temple's Storybook, Wagon Train, The Rifleman, Lassie and McHale's Navy.
Rooney left acting in the early 1960s to focus on a career as a musician. He played bass and sang with his brothers Mickey Jr. and Tim in the Columbia Records act The Rooney Brothers, and he was a member of the garage band The Yellow Payges.
He also served in the Vietnam War.
Survivors also include his wife Carol and children Shannon and Dominique
