M Is FOR MASHUP - July 2nd, 2014
AudioBoots 80s MASHED 3
By DJ Useo
I was the head moderator for the SoundUnsound mashup forum for over five years. During that period, I directed the release of many themed mashup albums. You can find all the SUS mashup comps
down the page here
( djuseomashupalbums.blogspot.com/ )
The owner of SoundUnsound decided to close the place for private reasons. I can only guess why, because he never said. Instead of a loss, I saw it as an opportunity. The other SUS admin,
Chocomang
( chocomang.org/ ), actually constructed a new site, christened it
AudioBoots
( audioboots.com/ ) , and we were back in business.
Now, approximately three months after opening, we present to you the first all-new AudioBoots mashup collection. "
80s MASHED 3"
( audioboots.com/80smashed3/ )
came about because everyone was very interested in mashing more 80s tunes. It makes a great trilogy when added to the two "SoundUnsound 80s Mashed" volumes. Many of the same skilled bootleggers from volumes one and two return on this latest release. I don't know how familiar you are with the eighties music, or the modern mixers, but the results are getting huge praise immediately. The former two volumes are much in demand again as well.
Listen and hear the music of superb eighties artists like the Clash, Talking Heads, Gary Numan, The Cure, Miami Sound Machine, and Blondie mixed with tons of modern artists like Bruno Mars, The Flaming Lips, Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mary J. Blige, and Sum 41. You get the best of both worlds with the previously unheard takes from mixers like AtoZ, chocomang, DJ MXR, DJ Petrushka, DJ Rudec, DJ Useo, DRA'man, Eternal Khaos, Fieesto, g4gorilla, Jarod Ripley, Jesus Cadena, Leigh Scratch Fenlon, mARKYbOY, Michmash, Mixcut, Oki, pomDeter, rillen rudi, Sjoerjse, song49, Spider, & ToToM. You might not know the names, but you'll find deep satisfaction with the tracks they produced.
So you get the best 80's artists mixed by 23 skilled bootleggers, bringing you 43 mashups, 3 hours of music, and 2 big discs. I understand video versions of some tracks are coming soon. I'll be sure & link you when they appear. You can listen to
two large single-track streams mixed by Chocomang here

If you liked last weeks' featured "M IS FOR MASHUP" album "
SUMMER BOOTY 2014 The Summer Mashup Album"
( www.suprmchaos.com/bcEnt-Wed-062514.index.html ) , you'll certainly enjoy this even newer collection. Behind the scenes, I've been having fascinating discussions with other mixers regarding which collection is better. Summer or Eighties. I don't see the harm in enjoying both!
I did the mastering of the audio tracks for
80s MASHED 3 . AtoZ did most of the artwork ( included ). Chocomang did EVERYTHING else. Big props to him! Check out the super cool website Chocomang constructed single handed - http://audioboots.com/80smashed3/ Simply click on the "cassettes" and you can hear the two streams of the entire album. There's mirror links so you can get the downloadable zip files in your preferred method. Best of all is theres no charge! We can't charge for our tracks, so you feel the benefit.
( audioboots.com/80smashed3/ )
In a few months we'll be starting the newt AudioBoots mashup project. Next time it's punk rock mashups! Woot! I love punk rock.
For those of you that aren't interested in 80s Mashed 3, or Summer Booty 2014, Here's a link for "
PROJECT FLAKE"
Incredibly, it's 99 bootleg versions of Nena's "99 Luft Balloons", a one hit wonder song from the eighties, mixed by 99 different bootleggers. Assembled by RadioClash, it's an experiment in overkill, but I've heard a bunch of the tracks so far, & they were each much fun. See how many you can play, before you hit the enjoyment wall. Send me your reactions, & I'll run them here next week.
Have fun listening to all the new mashups. You'll find they make you want to hear the originals.

BartCop
Hello Bartcop fans,
As you all know the untimely passing of Terry was unexpected, even by
him. We all knew he had cancer but we all thought he had some years
left. So some of us who have worked closely with him over the years are
scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. My job, among other
things, is to establish communications with the Bartcop community and
provide email lists and groups for those who might put something
together. Those who want to play an active roll in something coming from
this, or if you are one of Bart's pillars, should send an email to

Atrocious Ratings
Cable News
The ratings are out for the second quarter of 2014, and the results were not great for any of the cable news networks.
As usual, Fox News dominated MSNBC and CNN in total viewers and among viewers ages 25-54 during weekday primetime. MSNBC came in second during primetime, beating CNN by just 3,000 viewers in the key demo and besting CNN in total viewers 647,000 to 462,000.
Fox News and MSNBC also hit lows this quarter. Meanwhile, MSNBC fell behind HLN to fourth place in the key demo during total day (104,000 viewers). It came in fourth place for dayside ratings with 58,000 viewers - the network's lowest numbers since 2003.
Fox News suffered woes in the demo again: it saw the lowest 25-54 primetime viewership in thirteen years, since the second quarter of 2001. That's not surprising after the network saw a 12-year low in the demo for the month of May.

Decision Could Affect a Majority of U.S. Workers
Hobby Lobby
The U.S. Supreme Court today ruled that the government cannot force "closely held" corporations to offer insurance coverage that provides birth control to employees, a stipulation of the Affordable Care Act passed by Congress in 2010.
Closely held corporations - firms in which 50% of stock is owned by five or fewer people - are by definition closely linked to a few core owners, whose rights the Court sought to protect. As the majority catholic men wrote: "The purpose of extending rights to corporations is to protect the rights of people associated with the corporation, including shareholders, officers, and employees. Protecting the free-exercise rights of closely held corporations thus protects the religious liberty of the humans who own and control them."
But while the ruling may seem limited in that it only speaks to closely held firms, it in fact applies to more than 90% of U.S. companies, and even to a narrow majority of workers.
All Contraceptives
SCOTUS
The Supreme Court on Tuesday confirmed that its decision a day earlier extending religious rights to closely held corporations applies broadly to the contraceptive coverage requirement in the new health care law, not just the handful of methods the justices considered in their ruling.
The justices did not comment in leaving in place lower court rulings in favor of businesses that object to covering all 20 methods of government-approved contraception.
Oklahoma-based Hobby Lobby Inc. and a Pennsylvania furniture maker won their court challenges Monday in which they refused to pay for two emergency contraceptive pills and two intrauterine devices.
Tuesday's orders apply to companies owned by Catholics who oppose all contraception. Cases involving Colorado-based Hercules Industries Inc., Illinois-based Korte & Luitjohan Contractors Inc. and Indiana-based Grote Industries Inc. were awaiting action pending resolution of the Hobby Lobby case.

Sense Of Freedom Drops
America
This Independence Day, Americans will celebrate the nation's core values, especially freedom. But according to a new international poll, Americans have become significantly "less satisfied with the freedom to choose what they want to do with their lives."
Seventy-nine percent of US residents are satisfied with their level of freedom, down from 91 percent in 2006, according to the Gallup survey, released Tuesday.
That 12 point drop pushes the US from among the highest in the world in terms of perceived freedom to 36th place, outside the top quartile of the 120 countries sampled, trailing Paraguay, Rwanda, and the autonomous region of Nagarno-Karabakh.
Only 10 nations experienced as sharp a drop as the United States in terms of the satisfaction of citizens with their level of freedom: Egypt, Greece, Italy, Venezuela, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Romania, Yemen, Pakistan, and Spain.
According to another poll also released by Gallup on Tuesday, the portion of Americans who believe there to be "widespread corruption" in the US has jumped from 59 percent in 2006 to 79 percent in 2013.

Rupert's Racist, Misogynist "Reporter"
Jesse Watters
Fox News reporter Jesse Watters referred to single women as "Beyoncé Voters" Tuesday and then argued that they are forced to depend on government checks because they're unable to "depend on their husbands."
Watters made the statement after the network's daytime news show "Outnumbered" played a clip from a speech that Hillary Clinton gave Monday at the Aspen Ideas Festival. The speech was extremely critical of the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby ruling and Watters chimed in with an interpretation of his own.
"Having access to contraception is not in the Constitution. [Clinton] is dead wrong about that," he says in the clip. "And Hillary Clinton, I'm not surprised, this is her bread and butter, this is how she's going to try to win the White House."
"She needs the single ladies vote - I call them the Beyonce voters, the 'Single Ladies' - Obama won the single ladies by 76 percent last time. And they made up about a quarter of the electorate," Watters says. "They depend on government because they're not depending on their husbands."

Another Problem
Priest Bishop ArchbishopArchbishop John Nienstedt
The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis' Archbishop John Nienstedt is well-known for his outspoken statements against gay people and marriage equality. And now, the Catholic leader is under investigation by a law firm hired by the Archdiocese, based on "multiple allegations" that Nienstedt had relations with multiple men, including priests and seminarians. Although he authorized the investigation himself, the Archbishop denies the allegations are true. His archdiocese confirmed that the investigation was underway, according to the Religion News Service.
The story was first reported by the Catholic magazine Commonweal, based on an interview with the archdiocese's former canon lawyer Jennifer Haselberger.
In response to the story, Nienstedt told Commonweal that "I have never engaged in sexual misconduct and certainly have not made any sexual advances toward anyone." And in a statement, Neinstedt emphasized that "The allegations do not involve minors or lay members of the faithful, and they do not implicate any kind of illegal or criminal behavior." This is not, however, the first time the Archbishop has faced criticism for alleged misconduct, including a December accusation that he groped a boy during a photo session for a confirmation into the church. That accusation did not result in charges against Nienstedt. And Neinstedt has been accused of helping to cover up the sex abuse scandal in the archdiocese.
In 2012, Nienstedt secured about $650,000 in church money to support a proposed amendment that would ban same-sex marriage in the state. That amendment ultimately failed at the polls, despite his considerable efforts to rally Catholics to vote for its passage. But he's continued to oppose same-sex relationships with fiery rhetoric, as well. He has claimed that "Sodomy, abortion, contraception, pornography, the redefinition of marriage, and the denial of objective truth" are "threatening the stability of our civilization," and that the source of those "threats" is satan. And earlier, the Archbishop became infamous for writing a letter to a Catholic mom, telling her she had to either reject her gay son or burn in hell forever.

Professor Fired Over Research
Arizona
A University of Arizona researcher hoping to explore whether marijuana can help veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder was fired in a move that she said on Tuesday was payback for her high-profile advocacy regarding the work.
Dr. Sue Sisley said her non-tenured position as a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry has not been renewed, and said the dismissal amounted to retribution for her efforts to push for the study and not about her job performance.
Sisley said she received notice that various positions she holds at the Tucson-based university were not renewed and that her last day would be Sept. 26. The letter cited state Board of Regents policy and said the decisions were final and not subject to further administrative review.
Sisley said she has been working for about five years to gain approval of the controversial marijuana study, clearing a key hurdle in March when the Public Health Service gave its consent.
Arizona voters approved the use of medical marijuana for certain conditions in 2010, but that list does not include post-traumatic stress. A pro-cannabis group said last month it hopes to get a marijuana legalization measure on the 2016 ballot.

Bumper Sticker Upsets Police
Indianapolis
An Indianapolis woman has sued the city's police department, contending that an order to remove an "Unmarked Police Car" bumper sticker from her minivan violated her rights to free speech, the group representing her said on Monday.
A lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana on Friday argued that Indianapolis police did not have the right to question and make demands of Pamela Konchinsky after pulling over her vehicle earlier this month.
According to the complaint, Indianapolis police officers told Konchinsky the bumper sticker would make people think she was impersonating a police officer and could get her shot, before demanding that she remove it from her rear window.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Lieutenant Chris Bailey said the department did not comment on pending litigation.

In Memory
Paul Mazursky
Paul Mazursky, the writer and director behind such Oscar-nominated films as "An Unmarried Woman" and "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice," has died in Los Angeles. He was 84.
Mazursky, who also co-created "The Monkees" television series, died on Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from pulmonary cardiac arrest, said family spokeswoman Nancy Willen.
He first broke into Hollywood as an actor in Stanley Kubrick's 1953 film "Fear and Desire" and appeared in episodes of the "Twilight Zone" and the 1955 drama "Blackboard Jungle."
But Mazursky was best known for his work behind the camera, particularly for his ability to tap into topics such as marriage and divorce during the social upheaval of the 1960s and 1970s.
His first credit as a film writer was the 1968 Peter Sellers comedy "I Love You, Alice B. Toklas."
Mazursky directed his first feature, the comedy-drama "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice" starring Natalie Wood, the following year and earned the first of his four career Academy Award nominations for screenwriting.
It was the start of a string of acclaimed films written and directed by Mazursky, including 1974's "Harry and Tonto," 1978's "An Unmarried Woman" and 1989's "Enemies: A Love Story."
Mazursky also earned a best picture Oscar nomination for "An Unmarried Woman," starring Jill Clayburgh as a wealthy New York housewife whose husband leaves her for a younger woman.
Mazursky, who was born Irwin Mazursky in Brooklyn, New York, in 1930, also appeared in several episodes of the HBO comedy "Curb Your Enthusiasm" between 2004 and 2009.
His other notable feature films include "Moscow on the Hudson" in 1984 and "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" in 1986.
Earlier this year, the Writers Guild of America honored Mazursky with a lifetime achievement award.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy Purdy Mazursky, and daughter Jill Mazursky.
