The Sound Of Eternal Summer In Mashups
By DJ Useo
First off, let me be clear, the title SUMMER BOOTY refers to 'bootleg recordings of a summer nature'. It isn't meant as some slang form of 'hinder'. The bootleg name often comes accompanied by 'pirates' since we tend to 'appropriate' samples without expressly-written consent, much as pirates did in olden days (last week I think). I know people tend to 'word associate' these terms into 'Butt Pirate', but that's not applicable in this situation. Now that the pirating is done, it's time to divvy up the loot. That means you get 2 incredible discs worth of great, new mashups from skilled bootleggers like DJ Zebra, Voicedude, DJ MXR, & many more. SUMMER BOOTY 2009 ( www.summerbooty2009.moonfruit.com/ ) continues the tradition of a mashup collection themed along music that evokes the mood of an ever-lasting Summer.
The selection of material in this, the third SUMMER BOOTY ( www.summerbooty2009.moonfruit.com/ ) collection, is the best ever, with 31 inspired visions of how Summer feels as interpreted by a large group of international home producers. In the past 2 annual releases of SUMMER BOOTY, the standards were high, with impressive download numbers, & much good feedback. This new collection shows the maturity the genre has attained. I think most folks would be hard-pressed to tell Dan Mei & Marc Johnce ( dangermashups.wordpress.com/ )'s contribution 'Dont Stop The Way It Used To Be' (Pet Shop Boys vs Rihanna) from any label-released top forty single. Surely, it contains 2 such acts, but here you encounter the familiar in a new blend that gives both a new approach that satisfies!
A regular feature of the SUMMER BOOTY comps has been the mini-megamix. This continues with the awesome mixing of Hahnstudios ( hahnstudios.blogspot.com/ ) & their 16-minute tour-de-force track 'Like Ice In The Sunshine (Melt Away Mix International Version)'. This gem seemlessly blends a fantastic medley containing summer confections like Beagle Music Ltd., Richie Valens, Las Ketchup, The Beach Boys, Hall & Oates, Elton John, Die Frzte, Peter Schilling, Sugarbabes, Culture Clu, 2raumwohnung, The Champs, Tracy Ullman, & Rudi Carrell, & that's just in the one track!
Lemme just name-drop for a sec here, because the talent is strong & the material reflects that. Yeah, yeah, it's only bootlegging, but the results are telling. This is a collection worth hearing. Among the many contributors are well-known peeps like DJ Fac,The Homogenic Chaos, DJ Not-I, MadMixMustang, & Colatron. Names that conjure up much past enjoyment from many posted mixes. Newer talent shines here as well with contributions from Fidget Freeman, DJ Dylan, Eddie Pedalo, CjR & DJ Mashup. DJ Mashup is just rebounding from the successful release of his own collection 'Best of Dj MashUP-Summer Smash '09' ( djmashupxdv.blogspot.com ), a fine assortment of his best-recieved tracks with a few new gems as well. DJ Mashup provides a fantastic video to his SUMMER BOOTY track 'One Island In The Stream At A Time' (Bee Gees vs Jordin Sparks) as further inducement to listeners. The video is all done by DJ Mashups hand, & well-worth the youtube view ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5T88RWvpUY.
Listen to the entire collection hosted by DJ Petrushka & myself tomorrow, June 25 at 1:30 pm est (6:30 pm gmt) on Sound-Unsound Radio ( www.sound-unsound.com ). No registration required. Test the links now to find excellent mashup radio. :) Tizwarz from Edinburgh plays live on Wednesdays.

DJ Petrushka is also hard at work mixing both discs into one splendid long mix. Look for that on the SUMMER BOOTY 2009 site next Monday. More videos are being prepared as well. Bookmark the SUMMER BOOTY site & look for new content to be added all Summer long.
Thanks for reading my little spiel. I hope it reads as more than just an advertisement. I actually believe in this project.
Also big thanks to all contributors for their allowing themselves to be featured.& to Alpha1999 for art direction & to DJ Petrushka for everything else.

Once upon a time, I got to go to a fundraiser at Jerry Herman's house on Fire Island. Jerry Herman wrote Hello, Dolly! and Mame and the wonderful Mack & Mabel, among others. And seated at his piano he told us how he came home from school one day to find his mother throwing a party. And he was confused. What's going on, he asked - is it somebody's birthday? A holiday they don't give off from school for? And his mother apparently grabbed him by the shoulders ... and beamed at him, with her trademark enthusiasm: "No, Jerry - it's TODAY!"

The 'Eye for an Eye' Edition...
The recent domestic terrorist murders of Dr. George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas, Army recruiter Pvt William Long in Little Rock, Arkansas and security guard Stephan Johns at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. occurred in jurisdictions that have the capital punishment. Prosecutors of these crimes will, no doubt, consider asking for it due to obvious premeditation of the perpetrators.
Are you in favor of Capital Punishment?
Thanks fer yer patience, Poll-fans! The ol' laptop is in need of some TLC and my desktop is still in storage from my recent relocation. I'm not done unpacking yet, dagnabbit, so there it is... And here are the replies to the Poll!
Chipshot in Tyler was first and adamant...
Hell no! While I'm not a big fan of abortion, I support a woman's right to choose. But I can't for the life of me understand how people who claim to be "Pro-Life" can endorse capital punishment. An eye for an eye just leaves a lot of blind people!
That said, I wholeheartedly support, endorse, and recommend life sentences of solitary confinement with no TV, Internet, conjugal visits or daily mail/visitors in place of the death penalty. Mail and visitors only once a month (Wednesdays between 6 and 6:30 a.m.) is more than enough.
As a retired Air Force NCO with 28 years of service, I'd also like to add that I'm ashamed of my country for it's involvement in illegal, immoral, and unwinnable wars such as we have going on now in Iraq and Afghanistan. Furthermore, I would die a happy man if the entire Bush administration were to be convicted and confined in the manner described above.
War is not good for children and other living things.
MAW succinctly states...
In a word, No.
Adam in NoHo ponders...
Philosophically, YES. Practically, NO.
Unfortunately, justice in this country generally favors the white and rich. The statistics for CP in this country bear this out in startling detail. If I was assured justice and punishment could be dealt fairly and equitably, then I would be completely in favor of CP. Until that happens, then CP is off the table.
'Beyond a reasonable doubt' is different than 'We know for sure that person committed that crime', plus there are plenty of laws that serve no purpose (most drug and prostitution laws, for instance). So until that sort of thing gets cleaned up, inequity is built into the system, I think.
Josh in Santa Rosa was emphatic...
Definitely not!! Even granting that sometimes mistakes are made and the innocent end up getting killed - my major beef is that it lets the nut jobs off easy. We really blew it with McVeigh. He asked to be killed, just like some of our other convicted terrorists. They wanna die - I say make'em serve that life sentence without parole. If you think you're gonna have 72 virgins after you pull the pin, or Jesus will welcome you with open arms - there is no deterrent. But make it plain that you will serve every long, dull second of your term as your eyes fade, your hair falls out and your prostate enlarges - all in a 4'X6' cell with one hour a day for recreation until you die a feeble, incontinent hunk of skin - now that's a deterrent!!
DRD argues...
Your question on the Death penalty is one that brings various emotions into our own lives! Is the Death penalty moral? Yes! Why? The Death Penalty is legal as well as moral because state-sponsored death sentences are permitted by the Christian God, Jehovah of armies. The Death Penalty, when carried out, is not reversible, it is finite!! That is where the rubber hits the road. Whom among us is foolproof ? Are we capable of absolute certainty in forcing a person to forfeit their live-force? I think history has demonstrated that man/woman are not 100% certain of most anything when put to the test! Therefore, my feeling's fall under the roof that ,yes, man does have the authority to put others to death but I seriously question his/her ability to be absolutely certain, fair, and just in carrying out such a finite act!!
SallyP(al) strident as always said...
Absolutely not! Many (many) years ago, I was playing with two brother's who were neighbors. As boys will do, the older brother struck his brother, who in turn went wailing into the house to, "tell" on his offending sibling. A few minutes later, the Mom came charging out of the house with a wooden spoon in her hand and began striking the offending son over, and over again - all the while shouting, "You don't hit your brother!" "Now do you understand?" she screamed, hitting the kid at the same time, until he was in tears. Needless to say, as soon as the mother went back in the house, he was all over his brother for tattling.
I went home before the bloodletting began again. I knew, right then, as a kid, that, "hitting begets only rage, which can (when allowed to fester) turn into violence!" The law tells us, "Don't kill!" So, when we catch a killer, what do we want? Death? I don't think so...
Incarceration, yes, even that with, "no chance of parole" is understandable - but we, lowly humans, want our pound of flesh - we want to see the despot suffer and die (preferable the more he/she suffers the better). We care not for any circumstances such as the minorities predominate executions, that many of those convicted of violent crime, have a borderline IQ, or that such a killer is the product of a miserable childhood and/or is mentally ill.
No, just as the days of the Roman forum: "Throw the bastard to the lions!"
Oh, how those proponents of the death penalty would LOVE to see the forum return!
The Death Penalty does NOT serve as a deterrent. In fact, considering the fact that murder is not committed in the course of a normal person's life, one can make the argument that a person who kills must be insane to do so, except in the case of self-defense.
I especially enjoy the, "Right-to-lifers" screaming for the life of a fetus, while calling for the death of the abortion provider. Freaking hypocrites...
The Death Penalty needs to go, along with Torture - both are products of antiquity!
Case closed. And that's all she wrote, PS: Great family photo, Daddy Bone :)
DC Madman remarked...
This is kind of a tough question. I'm mostly against the death penalty because of crooked cops, eyewitnesses with lying eyes, along with witnesses, cops and judges with an agenda. There's no doubt innocent people have been executed and some are on death row now. I'd be willing to stake my life
that the white guys that killed Tiller and shot up the Holocaust museum are guilty based on their history. I'd have no problem executing them but they want to be martyrs for their cause. Life without parole would be a harsher sentence for them. I have a lack of faith in police when it comes to apprehending the correct black criminal. I'll withhold judgement on Abdul Mohammad.
Joe S. stated for the record...
I want to register my absolute opposition to the death penalty for any reason.
DanD returns with a vengeance...
Do I favor letting the government execute people? Well, let me ramble a bit.
Under certain circumstances, yes. For crimes of passion? Not really. For crimes of premeditated malice? Depends on the evidence.
There is one particular crime of premeditated malice that I believe the death penalty should always be relegated as a prime preference ... that being arrogant Constitutional treason. What do I mean by arrogant
Constitutional treason? I'm glad (to presume that you) asked that ... .
Such things as, when the Constitution states that only the Congress may declare war, and some top Executive whack-job summarily identifies himself as a "War pResident" when no war that he is waging has ever been declared by Congress. As far as I am concerned, by plainly establishing that he is prosecuting a war beyond a Congressional declaration of the same, he is also actively committing Constitutional treason. They (we?) need to seize that vicious fool, drag him behind the White House, and shoot that fool (some may prefer hanging with a short rope).
Constitutional treason is also a death-penalty concern WHENEVER any elected official EVER -- either by deed or specific expression (e.g. such Congressionally employed Zionland-firster traitors as H. R. Clinton)
puts the interests of ANY foreign nation ahead of his/her own country of citizenship ... specifically if his/her country of citizenship is the United States.
For a government servant to acknowledge oneself as self-possessing (or otherwise intentionally employing) dual citizenship should be a jailable offense with the offender being stripped of all property AND U.S.
citizenship rights ... with deportation to the "alternative" country being a mandatory event after a jail term at hard labor.
Dual citizenship Americans who also possess a foreign passport as well as a U.S. passport should be prohibited from voting in all national or local elections. If you wanna' vote in America, then the United States must be your only country of citizenship.
You see, ALL employees of the United States Government must (... or at least should) take an oath of loyalty TO The Constitution of the United States of America. To maliciously violate that oath IS treason. Such criminals should be punished most severely.
If / (when) the United States finally looses its Constitution to the power of oligarchs, then the rule of law is no longer the rule of America. Some people say that we're already there.
and from That Mad Cat, JD is...
NO, BUT I HAVE A LOT OF ARGUMENTS FOR PEOPLE WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABORTED.
Well then, Poll-fans, there it is. Except fer me, now, that is. I am personally opposed to Capital Punishment. I take pride that my home state of Michigan was the first US state to abolish it (except for treason) in 1846. That made it the second western governmental body to do so after the Grand Duchy of Tuscany did so in 1786. All attempts to reinstate it here have been roundly rebuffed. I am not opposed to strict punishment for premeditated murder and rape, dontcha know. Life without parole at hard labor suits me just fine for such perpetrators. That said, I hope that my capacity for vengeance is never tested by something horrible done to someone close to me. I am human, after all. I might just change my mind...
Thanks to all! Yer the Best!... Next poll will be June 30, as my system is going in for a complete overhaul by my local computer boffin...

Accused Of Plagiarism
Elisabeth Hasselbeck
The author of a health book has sued Elisabeth Hasselbeck, accusing the co-host of ABC's "The View" of plagiarism.
The lawsuit, filed Monday in federal court in Massachusetts, alleges that Hasselbeck lifted "word for word" content from a book written by Susan Hassett, a self-published author on Cape Cod.
Hasselbeck's book, "The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide," has appeared in the past month on several best-seller lists.
Hassett said in the lawsuit that she sent Hasselbeck a personal note and copy of her "Living With Celiac Disease" book as a courtesy after the television celebrity disclosed she had the illness last year.
Hassett said Hasselbeck's book "slavishly reproduces" lists and passages from her own work and includes inaccuracies about celiac disease that can be "misleading and dangerous" for people with the illness.

Widow Cries Fraud
Sam Kinison
Sam Kinison's widow has sued Sam's brother for allegedly forging the comedian's will -- 17 years after his death.
Malika Borghese filed a lawsuit yesterday in L.A. County Superior Court, claiming William Kinison forged the document by drafting it and then forging Sam's signature after his death. As a result, Malika claims, the lion's share of Sam's estate went to his bro.
So why the 17-year delay? Malika says she was in the dark until June, 2007, when a friend of Sam's allegedly fessed up that he was in on the forgery.
The suit claims William has been exploiting Sam's voice and image ever since his death.

A Sgt. Pepper's souvenir poster signed by the four Beatles sold for $52,500 (31,914 pounds) at a Christie's auction of pop culture memorabilia on Tuesday, along with an array of rock, punk and grunge-era items that fetched strong prices.
The sale of some 300 items, from handwritten Bob Dylan lyrics to actor Bob Crane's leather jacket from the 1960s television comedy "Hogan's Heroes" took in a total of $650,863, including the auction house's commission.
Kurt Cobain's Sears bass guitar sold for $43,750, while a classic black leather motorcycle jacket signed by members of Nirvana and Soundgarden fetched $12,500, more than half again its high pre-sale estimate.
The prop scissorhands used by actor Johnny Depp in the film "Edward Scissorhands" went for $16,250, while Marlon Brando's signed "Godfather" script fetched $10,625.

Walk O'Fame Star #2386
Cameron Diaz
US actress Cameron Diaz has received the 2,386th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where she attributed her successful career to "the eternal love my mom and dad shared."
"It was what has given me the strength and courage to live this extraordinary life and it is what powers the light that burns inside of me, bright enough for me to be honored today with this star on the Walk of Fame," Diaz said.
Diaz, 36, who earned a whopping 20 million dollars for her role in the film version of "Charlie's Angels," will return to the silver screen Friday for the premiere of "My Sister's Keeper," in which she plays a mother of two girls, including a cancer patient.
She was also joined by friends and fellow actors Tom Cruise, her co-star in "Vanilla Sky," his wife Katie Holmes, and Lucy Liu, who starred with Diaz in "Charlie's Angels."

Launches Own Cognac
Ludacris
Hip Hop icon Chris "Ludacris" Bridges has launched a new cognac, banking on his success on the record charts to shoot his latest project to the top of an extremely competitive business.
With the inevitable paparazzi and chauffeur-driven Bentley, the star created a buzz at the normally staid Vinexpo, the wine and spirits trade show in Bordeaux this week.
His fan base spreads across America, Asia, Europe and Africa. Exactly the market Kim Hartmann, owner of Birkedal Hartmann cognac, hopes to capture with Conjure, custom blend for the hip, urban market.
Since the early 1990s, cognac has become the drink of choice in the world of hip hop entertainment. It's become cool to drink cognac, often served as a cocktail. Bridges' favorite drink? "Cognac and Coke," replied the entertainer with a grin.

Joseph Brooks
The Oscar-winning songwriter and director behind "You Light Up My Life" has been arraigned on charges he lured women to New York City and raped and sexually assaulted them.
Joseph Brooks pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Manhattan's state Supreme Court. A 91-count indictment accuses him of rape, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse, assault and other offenses.
Prosecutors say Brooks used his Hollywood credentials on the Craigslist classified ads Web site to attract 11 women aged 18 to 30. They say his ad sought attractive young women for a starring role in a movie.
They say nine of the women were from the Portland, Ore., and Seattle areas and the others were from California and Florida.

Never Paid A Woman For Sex
Silvio
Embattled Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi (R-Facist) said Tuesday he has never paid a woman for sex, the subject of an embarrassing investigation under way in southern Italy.
"I have never paid a woman," Berlusconi said in an interview to appear Wednesday. "I have never seen the satisfaction that there could be in it without the pleasure of conquest," he told the people weekly Chi.
A call girl, Patrizia D'Addario, told the leading daily Corriere della Sera last week that she had gone twice to Berlusconi's Rome residence on the promise of earning 2,000 euros (2,800 dollars) for each visit.
Some of the pictures were published in a Spanish paper and showed Berlusconi in his garden alongside topless women and a totally naked man.

Mural Graffitied
Banksy
Cult graffiti artist Banksy has been given a dose of his own anarchic medicine -- one of his best-known works has been defaced with a paintball gun.
The picture, on the side of a sexual health clinic in his home town of Bristol, shows a naked man hanging from a window ledge as a jealous lover scours the horizon and an adulterous partner looks nervously on.
"There are about five or six blue (paint) splodges on the piece," said a spokeswoman for Bristol City Council.
In 2006, the council asked the public to vote on whether the mural should stay or be removed, with 93 percent of respondents saying it should stay.

Ed McMahon
Ed McMahon, the loyal "Tonight" show sidekick who bolstered boss Johnny Carson with guffaws and a resounding "H-e-e-e-e-e-ere's Johnny!" for 30 years, died early Tuesday. He was 86.
McMahon died shortly after midnight at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center surrounded by his wife, Pam, and other family members, said his publicist, Howard Bragman.
McMahon and Carson had worked together for nearly five years on the game show "Who Do You Trust?" when Carson took over NBC's late-night show from Jack Paar in October 1962. McMahon played second banana on "Tonight" until Carson retired in 1992.
Born Edward Leo Peter McMahon Jr. on March 6, 1923, in Detroit, McMahon grew up in Lowell, Mass. He got his start on television playing a circus clown on the 1950-51 variety series "Big Top." But the World War II Marine veteran interrupted his career to serve as a fighter pilot in Korea.
He joined "Who Do You Trust?" in 1958, its second year, the start of his long association with Carson. It was a partnership that outlasted their multiple marriages, which provided regular on-air fodder for jokes.
While Carson built his career around "Tonight" and withdrew from the limelight after his retirement, McMahon took a different path. He was host of several shows over the years, including "The Kraft Music Hall" (1968) and the amateur talent contest "Star Search," whose competitors included over the years Justin Timberlake, Usher, LeAnn Rimes, Adam Sandler and Rosie O'Donnell.
He was a longtime co-host of the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon, a Labor Day weekend institution, and was co-host with Dick Clark of "TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes."
McMahon and Clark also teamed up as pitchmen for American Family Publishers' sweepstakes, with their faces a familiar sight on contest entry forms and in TV commercials. McMahon was known for his ongoing commercials for Budweiser as well.
He had supporting roles in several movies, including "Fun With Dick and Jane" (1977) and "Just Write" (1997). He took on his first regular TV series job in the 1997 WB sitcom "The Tom Show" with Tom Arnold.
Besides his wife, Pam, McMahon is survived by children Claudia, Katherine, Linda, Jeffrey and Lex.
