Sure, I didn't discover Frank Zappa when he started, but I made up for it since. At one point after buying Zappa vinyl exclusively for years, I began buying one Zappa CD album in chronological order every payday. Believe me when I say that was a lot of CD's. A few times it was even large box sets, but I never regretted any of the purchases.
It now has 10,500 plays & an astonishing 31,496 downloads. Pardon my bragging.
I reckon this new album will do well, but honestly, numbers for mashups are way down in present times due to censorship. I don't mind, because we still get the music.
On this set you'll find Frank singing over such artists as Bob Marley, Herb Alpert, Queen, Steely Dan, & many more faves of yours. here's the preview track "Dirty Rabbit" ( Frank Zappa vs Jefferson Airplane ) with Frank singing over JA -

• In the early days of punk rock in England, fans indulged in gobbing - spitting on the band. Believe it or not, this was regarded as a compliment, even though many band members hated it, Johnny Ramone among them. Debbie Harry of Blondie also did not care for being spit on, complaining, "It doesn't match my dress." One band member who did like it - and even encouraged it - was Handsome Dick Manitoba of the Dictators. He used to drink a quart of milk before going onstage so he could spit back at his fans.
• At a concert of works by George Gershwin, both Mr. Gershwin himself and Oscar Levant performed. After the concert, many fans surrounded Mr. Gershwin, while Mr. Levant stood alone. Finally, Mr. Levant said, "You could at least send one of them over to me."
• David Byrne of the Talking Heads knew that some of his fans were rather odd, so he frequently had his telephone number changed.

• For many years, the castrati ruled opera. In Paris, a woman named Teresa Lanti went under the name of Bellino and pretended to be a castrato so she could get jobs singing opera. Ms. Lanti did not fool Casanova; she was one of his lovers. A person who narrowly averted becoming a castrato was the famous composer Joseph Haydn. As a boy, Haydn had a lovely singing voice; however, when his choirmaster suggested that Haydn become a castrato to preserve his voice, Haydn's father quickly put an end to the idea.
• As a young man, Italian baritone Tito Gobbi really got into his roles. After playing Scarpia for the first time in Tosca, Mr. Gobbi took his parents out to eat. At the restaurant, Mr. Gobbi behaved exactly like Scarpia, snapping his fingers to get attention from the waiters and in general making a nuisance of himself. His father leaned across the table and said softly to him, "Come back, Tito - the opera is over."
• As a rebellious teenager, Paul McCartney wore his hair much longer than his father, Jim, liked. Paul would occasionally go to the barber to get a trim, but his father felt that the trims made little difference in the length of Paul's hair. Every time Paul returned from the barbershop, his father would say sarcastically, "Was it closed then?"

• Mick Collins, leader of the Detroit band the Dirtbombs, remembers meeting Julian Schnabel, director of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, who used the Dirtbombs' version of the song "Chains of Love" on the movie's soundtrack. The Dirtbombs played at Mr. Schnabel's premiere party at Cannes - for about 10 minutes, with the volume turned up to 10 - then they met Mr. Schnabel backstage. Carrying a tray of pastries, Mr. Schnabel said, "Let's do some pastries." Mr. Collins marvels, "Of all the things I've been asked to do backstage after a show, pastries has never been on the list. So we did a tray of pastries. He was a really cool guy."
• In the early 1980s, while the star rap group Disco 3 was in Switzerland, their manager, Charles Settler, looked at their hotel bill and was impressed by a charge in addition to lodging - the food bill of the three-member group was $350. Mr. Settler renamed the group The Fat Boys. The group had first achieved success when it came in second in a 1983 rap contest held by Coca-Cola. They were very happy with their prize of a $5,000 stereo system - and even happier, as well as surprised, to learn that second prize also included a record contract with Sutra Records.
Born Leonard Franklin Slye in Cincinnati, Ohio, this American singer, actor, and television host made his mark in Westerns. By what name is he more famously known?
Roy Rogers (born Leonard Franklin Slye, November 5, 1911 - July 6, 1998) was an American singer, actor, and television host. He was one of the most popular Western stars of his era. Known as the "King of the Cowboys", he appeared in over 100 films and numerous radio and television episodes of The Roy Rogers Show. In many of his films and television episodes, he appeared with his wife, Dale Evans, his golden palomino Trigger; and his German shepherd, Bullet. His show was broadcast on radio for nine years and then on television from 1951 through 1957. His early roles were uncredited parts in films by fellow cowboy singing star Gene Autry and his productions usually featured a sidekick, often Pat Brady, Andy Devine, George "Gabby" Hayes, or Smiley Burnette. In his later years, he lent his name to the franchise chain of Roy Rogers Restaurants.

Roy Rogers. I watched syndicated re-runs of his TV series when I was a tyke. I don't remember much about it other than Roy Rogers wore a white hat, rode on a horse named Trigger and never shot anybody dead with his dual six guns, he invariably shot the gun out of the bad guy's hand or shot the hat off his head.
Photos: Roy made a rare appearance in a Hollywood A list film in Dark Command, starring John Wayne | Roy and his wife Dale Evans sang as guests on the TV series Hee Haw long after his TV series ended | Roy started out as a featured player on Gene Autry's singing cowboy movies, but before long Roy became a competitor in his own singing cowboy films | I guess there were no hard feelings on Autry's part, possibly because Autry's investments in his media empire and the MLB team California Angels made him very wealthy.
Deborah, the Master Gardener, responded:
Why, that's the world-famous Roy Rogers. Yep, I was a fan of the Westerns, growing up in South Jersey farm country.
If I had to assign a medical diagnosis to our NorCal spring, it would be "schizophrenia." At least the local fire is held at bay, neither gaining nor giving ground. A helicopter flies overhead a couple times a day, since Sunday, refueling at the small local airport, then filling its bright red bucket with water at a small local lake, and then back to the fire. Evidently I don't have enough to do if I have time to watch aircraft overhead.

Did we learn nothing in 2016? "Defund the Police" is not a slogan that will help. The words do not convey the message. Rednecks hear it and think "destroy" or "disband." They are not going to listen to a 5-minute explanation of what the words actually mean any more than they would listen to minutes-long articulate, informed responses to debate questions by the best candidate. Reasoned response? Crickets. 3-word stupidity? (Lock her up. Build the wall.) Howls of approval and continuous chanting!

Cops' six-year run on Paramount Network and its predecessor has come to an end. Pulled last week in the aftermath of George Floyd's death, the series will not be coming back.
The long-running Cops premiered on Fox in 1989 and aired for 25 seasons. The show was resurrected in 2013 when Spike TV ordered new episodes. Spike TV rebranded as Paramount Network in 2018, with the docuseries carried over to the new network.
Cops, whose 33rd season was slated to premiere yesterday, has been off the air since June 1 when it was pulled with no plans to run any additional episodes. Paramount Network has been moving away from all unscripted programming.
A&E on June 5 pulled last weekend's episodes of its hit docuseries Live PD amid continued nationwide protests over Floyd's death. The network still is evaluating the right time to bring it back, though a return this weekend appears unlikely at the moment.
Merriam-Webster dictionary will changes its definition of racism because of a Missouri woman's efforts.
Kennedy Mitchum, who lives in the St. Louis suburb Florissant, says it took several disagreements about the meaning of racism and people quoting the dictionary for her to email Merriam-Webster, according to her Facebook post.
"It's not just disliking someone because of their race," Mitchum said. "This current fight we are in is evidence of that, lives are at stake because of the systems of oppression that go hand-in-hand with racism."
Merriam-Webster's online dictionary defines racism as "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race." It also includes a second meaning, which says racism is "a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles; a political or social system founded on racism."
Mitchum says the definition falls short of including the systemic oppression of certain groups of people, KMOV reported.
Less than two weeks after launch, HBO Max has removed Gone With the Wind from its streaming offering. It's a significant move given the film's popularity and status as the highest-grossing movie of all time when box office numbers are adjusted for inflation.
On Monday, Academy Award winning writer-director John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) called for the film's removal from HBO Max, saying "It doesn't just 'fall short' with regard to representation. It is a film that glorifies the antebellum south. It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color."
Indeed, the 1939 film is not aging well in an era of protests against police brutality and racial injustice. The Southern-set Civil War epic portrays slaves as mostly happy with their lot and loyal to their owners to the end. It also plays down - if not eliminates altogether - the horrors of slavery, even as it romanticizes the suffering of Vivien Leigh's Scarlett O'Hara before, during and after the Civil War.
Gone With the Wind won 8 competitive Oscars, including the first Oscar ever awarded to a black person. That statue went to Hattie McDaniel for her role as the ever-loyal house slave Mammie. It also was awarded Best Picture; Best Director; Best Actress in a Leading Role; Best Writing, Screenplay; Best Cinematography, Color; Best Film Editing and Best Art Direction.
AFI ranked Gone With the Wind as the fourth best film ever made on its 100 Best Movies of All Time list.
Stressed out while working at a bank in New Zealand, Junelle Kunin began searching for music paired with teachings from the Dalai Lama to calm herself down and allow herself to focus, but she couldn't find it online.
That's when the musician and practicing Buddhist proposed an idea to The Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama: Let's make an album fusing music with mantras and chants from the Tibetan spiritual leader.
She was politely turned down.
But on a trip to India - where Kunin says she typically gets a chance to meet the Dalai Lama - she asked again, this time writing a letter and handing it to one of his assistants.
Five years later, "Inner World" is born. The album featuring teachings and mantras by the Dalai Lama set to music will be released on July 6, his 85th birthday.
Minneapolis police initially told the public that George Floyd died after a "medical incident during a police interaction." The Buffalo, New York, department said a protester "tripped and fell." Philadelphia police alleged that a college student who suffered a serious head wound had assaulted an officer.
All three claims were quickly disproved by videos seen widely on the internet and television, fueling mistrust and embarrassing agencies that made misleading or incomplete statements that painted their actions in a far more favorable light.
Police departments deny lying but acknowledge sometimes making mistakes when releasing information in fast-moving, complicated situations. The videos, they say, do not always capture officers' perspectives.
Defense lawyers say the inaccurate statements are encouraged by a culture of silence in which officers protect misbehaving colleagues, a court system that rarely holds officers accountable and a public that has given police the benefit of the doubt.
Those are only the most recent examples. The same phenomenon has rocked other law enforcement agencies, particularly when minorities have been killed in police interactions that are captured by cellphones, surveillance systems or officers' cameras.
The combined wealth of America's billionaires, including Amazon.com Inc founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook Inc CEO Mark Zuckerberg, jumped over 19% or by half a trillion since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, according to a report published by the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS).
During the 11 weeks from March 18, when U.S. lockdowns started, the wealth of America's richest people surged by over $565 billion, while 42.6 million workers filed for unemployment, the report said.
"These statistics remind us that we are more economically and racially divided than at any time in decades," said Chuck Collins, a co-author of the report.
During the 11 week period, Bezos saw his wealth soar by about $36.2 billion while Zuckerberg's fortune surged by about $30.1 billion. Tesla Inc Chief Executive Elon Musk's net worth also rose $14.1 billion.
The past week also saw the wealth of U.S. billionaires jump by $79 billion, according to the report.
Our mothers used to tell us to play hard to get to attract the attention of our first crush, but science has revealed there may actually be some truth in that basic strategy.
A new study, by researchers from the University of Rochester and the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya, and published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, found that making the chase harder could increase a potential mate's desirability.
Interestingly, and not necessarily unsurprisingly, study authors found that immediately reciprocating another person's interest isn't actually the best strategy for attracting mates.
Key takeaways from the research reveal that a person who is perceived as hard to get is associated with having a greater "mate value".
Study participants were also found to have made greater efforts on/and found more sexually desirable those potential dates they perceived as hard to get.
A beloved grizzly bear believed to be one of the oldest living in the wild has been spotted alive and with a new litter of cubs.
399 - the bear's number - is a 24-year-old grizzly living in Grand Teton national park, within the Yellowstone ecosystem.
The animal isn't simply known for its advanced age; 399 has become one of the most visible grizzlies in that region, raising her cubs near roads and well in sight of humans.
With an exception in 2007 when 399 mauled a person who wandered too close to where she and her cubs were feeding on an elk carcass, the bear has never attacked humans unprovoked, even when they've foolishly attempted to get close to the creature and her cubs.
The person survived the encounter, and park authorities determined the animal was only acting naturally in defence of her cubs and their meal.
