M Is FOR MASHUP - June 8th, 2016
Mash Of The Titans 5 Kicks Ass & Takes Names.
By DJ Useo
Over in the world of mashups, we've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Panos T's "
Mash Of The Titans 5"
( panost.net/mash-of-the-titans-2/mash-of-the-titans-5/ ) , the fifth volume of a beloved bootleg series that has been teased relentlessly over the past month, or more. Sure, there's other fine mashup compilations thoughout the year, but this one has carved out a place in our cortex's through virtue of it's many famed contributors. The contributors populating this gem of a series are the big "dawgs" that the rest of us speak of in hushed whispers.
MOTT 5
( panost.net/mash-of-the-titans-2/mash-of-the-titans-5/ )
has the most well known, skilled producers from the entire Earth. Established folk like DJ's From Mars, The Fabulous Beatmashers, Kill_MR_DJ, DJ Schmolli, Mashup-Germany, & many more. The content stretches out over 22 tracks through mixes like Shahar Varshal's "Goodbye, Lush Sister", Robin Skouteris' "Rhythm Is A Mashup", & Cosmic Dawn's "I Will Survive Adventure Of A Lifetime".
To protect the viability of the release, MOTT 5
( panost.net/mash-of-the-titans-2/mash-of-the-titans-5/ )
the album omits mention of the source artists, but believe you me, the mashups on here make no surprise of the music employed. You'll find it all strangely familiar, as we bootleggers tend to say. For instance here's one of the excellent videos that Panos T slicked up. It's Happy Cat Disco's "Same Old Pop", a gem of a mix that has 15 modern pop stars all coexisting splendidly in
one brief single track
( www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbHtzi_kSII ) .
DJ's From Mars also brings joy with their awesome Panos T video for "
Faded Cheap Thrills"
( www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHkADNElwG8 ) .
Megamix Central's " Five Harmonies of Fifth Harmony" is a super track, & the Panos T video makes it even more of a memorable experience.
Mr. K provides fine mental stimulation in the
Panos T video for "What Makes Me Latch On A Dream".
Mixmstrstel's "Never Forget Your Dark Heart" brings it on in the
Panos T vid-craft here.
…& Shahar Varshal's Panos T-made video love affair for "Goodbye, Lush Sister" is also a great
preview video track for this large project
( www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTKOcW4ADcI ).
I had a rollicking great time in live chats during the KOPIMI RADIO with Mazanga Von Badman MOTT 5 premiere fm broadcast. Mazanga was joined by the fantastic live fm host, DJ Joker & Panos himself for super hosting bits that added much to the already fine audio presentation. Here's
the great show re-posted here.
( hearthis.at/kopimi/05-29-16/ )
I hope you enjoy some or all of the notable success of a project. You can find links for the previous 4 MOTT releases from this swell links.
Thanks to all those involved with this release.

Meryl Streep
As if one Donald Trump wasn't enough, the world got two on Monday night. Three-time Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep arrived at the annual Shakespeare in the Park Public Theater Gala in New York City's Central Park donning a long, red tie, fat suit, disheveled hair and orange spray tan.
Streep took the stage with her "Mamma Mia" costar and friend Christine Baranski, who was dressed as Trump opponent Hillary Clinton, and gave a comedic performance from the musical "Kiss Me Kate."
"
You'll let me know why it is all the women say no," Streep sang.
"Brush up your Shakespeare and the women you will wow," Baranski responded. "Just declaim a few lines from 'Othello,' and they'll think you're a hell of a fella."
The characters who sing those parts are traditionally male gangsters who advise men about how to woo women by reciting Shakespeare.

Republicans Shut Out Of U.S. Senate Race
California
California voters on Tuesday are expected to choose two Democrats to face off against each other in the race to succeed Barbara Boxer in the U.S. Senate, shutting out Republicans in a sign of that party's diminished support in America's most populous state.
State Attorney General Kamala Harris and U.S. Representative Loretta Sanchez will likely meet in what would be the state's first-ever single-party Senate election under a 2010 California law advancing the top two primary vote-getters to the general election, regardless of party affiliation.
In recent opinion polls ahead of the state's primary on Tuesday, Harris, 51, has led the crowded field of 34 candidates. None of the Republican contenders comes close to Sanchez, 56, who is firmly in second place. Boxer, 75, a Democrat, is retiring after 24 years in the Senate.
Republicans hold no statewide offices in California and represent about 27 percent of registered voters. The state, home to former Republican Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, last elected a Republican to the U.S. Senate in 1988.

4 In 10 Are Obese
US Women
The nation's obesity epidemic continues to grow, led by an alarming increase among women. For the first time, more than 4 in 10 U.S. women are obese, according to new government health statistics.
Obesity rates for men and women in the U.S. had been roughly the same for about a decade. But in recent years, women have surged ahead and now just over 40 percent of women are obese, compared to 35 percent of men.
The percentages were reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in two articles published online Tuesday by the Journal of the American Medical Association. The numbers are based on small government survey that is considered the best measure of the nation's obesity problem.
Though it is not altogether surprising to health researchers because the nation has long been growing more obese, it is "scary" that the statistic has reached 40 percent for women, said Dana Hunnes, a dietitian who sees obese patients at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
The rate of obesity in women is also higher than in men across the world, although far lower overall than in the U.S. According to the World Health Organization, 15 percent of women worldwide and 11 percent of men are obese.

Neolithic Massacre
France
Archaeologists said Tuesday they had discovered the remains of a 6,000-year-old massacre that took place in Alsace in eastern France, saying it was likely carried out by "furious ritualised warriors".
At a site outside Strasbourg, the corpses of 10 individuals were found in one of 300 ancient "silos" used to store grain and other food, a team from France's National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap) told reporters.
The Neolithic group appeared to have died violent deaths, with multiple injuries to their legs, hands and skulls.
The way in which the bodies were piled on top of each other suggested they had been killed together and dumped in the silo.
The skeletons of five adults and one adolescent were found, as well as four arms from different individuals.

On Track to Reach its Lowest Level in History
Arctic Ice
It's been a hot year in the Arctic, with sea ice melting earlier and faster than ever before. New data shows that May saw its lowest-ever sea ice extent, by a significant margin. Which means it's very likely that by the height of summer, Arctic sea ice will be at its lowest levels ever recorded.
Climate Central reports on National Snow and Ice Data Center data released today that tracks the Arctic Sea's "ice extent," meaning the area of the ocean that is covered in at least 15 percent sea ice. Not only is May's sea ice extent way, way lower than it should be, it's also the fourth-lowest recorded level in history. The record low that's this summer's number to beat was set in June of 2012.
Not only can you see much more open water than you should this time of year, you can also see another trend that's worrying researchers. That opaque white ice is "multiyear ice," which is like a sea-ice glacier that doesn't melt over the summer and helps keep local ocean temps low. The problem is that more multiyear ice is breaking up and melting, meaning more of next season's ice will be "first-year ice," melting too quickly to help keep the ocean cool.
El Niño might have fueled certain wacky weather trends like a heat wave in December that brought above-freezing temperatures to the North Pole, but the evidence is now fairly obvious: The region is warming at twice the rate of the rest of the planet-which is already the warmest it's ever been. The Arctic is now truly on thin ice.

'The Whole Family' Insulted By T-rump Comparisons
Reagans
Late President Ronald Reagan's son blasted presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Tuesday, saying the whole family is insulted by comparisons some have made between the two.
Trump has been running on the old Reagan slogan "Make America Great Again," and he often extols Reagan as a great president.
"His grandchildren are, in fact, insulted that [people] would compare Donald Trump to their grandfather," Michael Reagan told NewsMax TV on Tuesday, as spotted by Buzzfeed.
"The whole Reagan family is insulted by it. Donald Trump is no Ronald Reagan."
Another Reagan son, Ron, similarly opposes Trump.

Sentenced to Jail
Conrad Hilton
More trouble for Paris Hilton's younger brother.
A Los Angeles federal judge revoked the 22-year-old hotel heir's probation and sentenced him to two months in prison on Monday after he failed a number of drug tests and was terminated from a substance abuse program, U.S. Assistant attorney Alexander Schwab confirms to ET.
In 2014, Hilton was given three years probation and 750 hours community service after pleading guilty to attacking several flight attendants during a British Airways flight from London to Los Angeles. Then, in June of the following year, authorities confirmed to ET that Hilton was arrested again on suspicion of violating a restraining order obtained by his ex-girlfriend, Hunter Daily.
After he failed several drug tests, a judge ordered Hilton to check into a residential substance abuse treatment program in January.
During the sentencing hearing, Hilton reportedly asked the judge if he could serve his time under house arrest at his grandfather's Palm Springs, California, home, stating that the family's Los Angeles residence was a "bad environment" for the troubled heir.

Glyphosate Weed-Killer
EU Nations
EU nations refused to back a limited extension of the herbicide glyphosate's use on Monday, threatening withdrawal of Monsanto's Roundup and other weed-killers from shelves if no decision is reached by the end of the month.
Contradictory findings on carcinogenic risks have thrust the chemical into the center of a dispute among EU and U.S. politicians, regulators and researchers. Citizen and environmental groups have urged governments to exercise caution.
The EU executive had offered a 12- to 18-month extension to allow time for further scientific study by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), in hopes of allaying health concerns. Its earlier proposal to renew the glyphosate license for up to 15 years had failed to win support in two meetings this year.
The compromise proposal failed to win the qualified majority needed for adoption, an EU official said, adding the European Commission will discuss the issue at a meeting on Tuesday.
Seven member states abstained and 20 backed the proposal, a German environment ministry spokeswoman said. Only Malta voted against, diplomats said.
