M Is FOR MASHUP - June 3rd, 2008
The Return Of Psychedelic Mashups
By DJ Useo
I know! I know! People mainly want nice poppy mashups. Sometimes, they like a decent metal mash, or even an electro one. But, me, I like an intense, psychedelic mashup. I do, & to the point that I go out of my way to make them myself. A year & 5 months ago I released an entire album's worth of tracks I called INTENSE PYCHEDELIA ( groovytimewithdjuseo.blogspot.com/2008/02/intense-psychedelia-full-mashup-album_11.html ) (now with direct link, + mirrors) It didn't get any big response, so tho' I was happy, I felt that the style had alienated listeners. To my surprise the numbers started adding up as the months passed. The 3 links I used really added up to a LOT of downloads, eventually. I found it so encouraging, I kept doing psychedelic tracks every so often until I found this last month there was another entire album. Since that discovery I tweaked a few to ensure best quality, found two pals who contributed video versions, & attained direct hosting so everyone can easily savour the bootleggy-goodness.
Now INTENSE PSYCHEDELIA 2: INTENSIFIED MASHUPS ( groovytimewithdjuseo.blogspot.com/2009/05/intense-psychedelia-2-intensified.html ) is released & bamboozling minds with startling regularity. To start with, here's the main moving cover ( djuseo.multiply.com/music/item/1758/Intense_Psychedelia_2_Intensified_Mashups ). The gif doesn't post well here on BARTCOP E, but it's well worth the view. Thanks to UK Artist ANDY_S for the gif cover! If you direct your link attention here for a moment, you will find an entertaining short promo for the album ( www.divshare.com/download/7545999-6c9 ).
Best of all are the two video versions available for viewing here & here.
Dr. Pepper Freak (Butthole Surfers vs d.N.i.) ( youtube.com/watch?v=SOzJr9_dJ10 )
Video created by DJ Dylan ( mash-ups.webs.com/ )
See Emily Keep Da Vibe Alive (Pink Floyd vs Riot 303 vs Observer) ( youtube.com/watch?v=yHw_Hmqa3yY )
Video created by Alpha1999 ( alpha1999-music.blogspot.com/ )
How do your eyes feel after that experience? :)
Thanks to the guys for the video versions.
You don't see something like that everyday.
There's all kinds of mashup tracks on this baby. You get the idea, tho' from the Pink Floyd & Butthole Surfers in the vids, eh? I got a chance to extract, mix & loop sections from many fave vinyl records. Nearly every track from The Mad Violets to The Flaming Lips began the mashup journey as bought vinyl. I thought the record could use a slight bit of humour at some point, so you'll find 'The Majesty Of Confusion' (Spinal Tap vs New Order). 'Mmm, Time's Going Slower' (The Three O'Clock vs DJ RedEye) will make you feel intoxicated even if you ain't. Assuredly, no psychedelic album worth it's salt would be complete without some backmasking. I had already done a track with The Beatles singing backwards to the CARS movie soundtrack. Well, it only took a quick effect to make 'Lucy In The Sky With Cars' (Beatles vs 'Cars' movie soundtrack) (Reverse Mix). Now you can hear John Lennon singing more or less normally, while the CARS theme is completely backwards. I think it actually works better.
So there's mashups of Strawberry Alarm Clock vs Ziggy X, Nina Hagen vs DJ Disorder vs DJ Ektoplasm, & a face-ripping version of T.Rex vs Queen vs Alice In Chains. 20 tracks in all. There's not much more I can tell you. If you aren't interested, you moved past this part already. I hope you are willing to check out the world of psychedelic mashups. Man, will live you better.

Audrey Hepburn did a lot of work with UNICEF. At one camp, where no one knew that she was a movie star, children lined up for a bowl of porridge. One girl was mesmerized by Ms. Hepburn, whose kindness she had witnessed, and she didn't know whether to go to Audrey, who was busy talking to other people, to get a hug or to stay in line and get a bowl of porridge. Both needs are important. Eventually, Audrey looked at the little girl, and the little girl left the line to get a hug from Audrey. John Isaac, UNICEF photographer, did not take a photo because it was such an intensely personal moment.

Inciter Of Hate
O'Really
The shooting death of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller has put Fox "News" Channel's primary propagandist and loofah enthusiast Bill O'Reilly in the media spotlight because of "stories" he did about the Kansas doctor over the past few years in an effort to goose his faltering ratings..
Liberal commentators have questioned whether the sanctimonious O'Reilly's words, including calling the doctor "Tiller the baby killer," were too incendiary. O'Reilly, who had to pay off a former producer for indecent behavior, condemned Tiller's killing and said his opponents are exploiting the murder to attack Fox and stifle criticism of people like Tiller.
Before Tiller's death, O'Reilly had talked about him on "The O'Reilly Factor" some 29 times since February 2005, according to Salon magazine Monday.
Twice the morally challenged O'Reilly sent producers to Kansas to "report" on the story. In June 2007, Fox's Porter Barry confronted Tiller in the street and asked, "they call you Tiller the baby killer. Is that appropriate?" Tiller was shown calling 911 and saying he was being accosted by an O'Reilly producer. Last July, Fox's Jesse Waters followed then-Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius in the street to ask about Tiller.

Actress Cynthia Nixon is lobbying New York lawmakers to legalize same-sex marriage and says she hopes to marry her partner in New York next year if the law is enacted.
The self-described lifelong New Yorker is engaged to Christine Marinoni. Holding up her diamond engagement ring in Albany on Tuesday, she says she's going to marry next summer and hopes to do it in New York.
Same-sex marriage legislation backed by Gov. David Paterson has passed the Assembly. Senate Democratic Majority Leader Malcolm Smith is trying to muster enough votes to pass it.
After meeting with a half-dozen lawmakers, Nixon says she's encouraged.

Stunt Was Planned
Eminem
The head writer for the MTV Movie Awards has settled the debate: the stunt involving Sacha Baron Cohen and Eminem at the MTV Movie Awards was completely planned.
Comedy writing veteran Scott Aukerman wrote in a posting on his blog that the incident was staged and rehearsed in advance.
At Sunday's award show, Baron Cohen appeared in character as his gay fashionista Bruno. He fell on top of Eminem after being suspended above the crowd. The rapper appeared to find little humor in the stunt and stormed out.
Aukerman's posting has since been removed. His manager didn't immediately return a call Tuesday.

Promotes Return To Civility, Civics
Richard Dreyfuss
Of all the causes actors have chosen to champion, Richard Dreyfuss admits his passion lacks, well, a certain pizazz: Civics.
"Don't call it 'civics' because 'civics' is easily the most boring word in America," Dreyfuss says. "Call it what it is: political power."
Dreyfuss brings an actor's dramatic pacing and a historian's licks to his cause, erasing any notion that this lesson will be boring. He's bombastic, predictably brash and yet professorial during a 90-minute interview in a bland hotel suite in this seaport, where he was honored at a film festival earlier this year.
Called The Dreyfuss Initiative, the curriculum would use scholarly presentations in videos and the Oscar-winning actor "as a storyteller, to engage, enlighten and empower students of all ages in an entertaining way," according to an outline. Dreyfuss said he would work with civic and educational groups to promote the teaching tools.

UNICEF Ambassador
Roger Moore
Former James Bond star Roger Moore lashed out on Tuesday against the sexual exploitation of children, urging those who abuse minors to be pursued across national borders.
Speaking at the publication of a new UNICEF report on the sexual abuse of children, Moore said: "Childhood is being destroyed by sexual abuse, violence and neglect. We must stop it. If we do nothing, our silence would mean acceptance."
The 81-year-old British actor, a longtime UNICEF ambassador, added: "I can hardly imagine a more shameful violation of the rights of children as the deliberate exploitation of their bodies by unscrupulous adults to serve their sexual appetite."
"Perpetrators must be followed across borders," he urged.

Tax Breaks Worth It?
Hollywood
Many U.S. states that are cutting spending on schools, roads and other basics have been lavishing hundreds of millions of dollars in incentives on Hollywood studios to lure TV and movie productions - this, despite scant evidence that taxpayers come out ahead on such deals.
An Associated Press survey found that states competing for projects handed out US$1.8 billion in tax breaks and other advantages to the entertainment industry from 2006 through 2008.
Several states have even sweetened their incentives recently or are considering doing so, for fear that if they don't land the next major motion picture, someone else will.
"The industry has been able to play off North Carolina against South Carolina against Louisiana against Georgia. Louisiana raises its incentives, and it puts pressure on South Carolina, North Carolina and other states to do likewise," said Bob Orr, a former North Carolina Supreme Court justice who heads an anti-incentives group called the North Carolina Institute for Constitutional Law.

Microsoft's Rock Band
Remaining Beatles
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr came together to promote "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game.
The two surviving Beatles, along with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, appeared Monday at Microsoft's Electronic Entertainment Expo presentation at the University of Southern California's Galen Center. Ono and Harrison were briefly introduced - but didn't say anything - before McCartney and Starr appeared on stage to banter about the upcoming game.
In the music game developed by Harmonix and published by MTV Games, players will be able to follow - and perform as - members of the legendary music group, beginning with their early days in 1963 Liverpool through their final rooftop performance. Unlike its "Rock Band" predecessor, "The Beatles" edition will feature three-part vocal harmonies.
Forty-five Beatles songs will be available on the game's disc when "The Beatles: Rock Band" is released on Sept. 9, including "I Am The Walrus," "Back In The U.S.S.R.," "Here Comes The Sun," "Get Back," and "I Feel Fine." Microsoft said "All You Need Is Love" will be released for download on the Xbox 360, with proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders.

Made Of Cocaine
Suitcases
Police say two suitcases carried by a woman who was about to fly from Chile to Spain were made of cocaine. Detective Leandro Morales at the Santiago airport says the drug "was not hidden in the luggage. This time the suitcases were the drug." Morales tells The Associated Press that the suitcases were made of a substance combining cocaine with resin and glass fiber.
The officer says the suitcases were heavier than their contents.
The 26-year-old Argentine woman was arrested.
