Mix Of The Week
BUDTHEWEISER, the long mix legend strikes again with an actual 64 minute long mix of the 'ZOOT BOOTS Vol. 1' album mentioned above. It's hard enough to imagine the album got made at all, given the eclectic musical styles, but BTW actually drops them in one session & has it sizzling.
Listen here to 'Zoot Boots Vol.1 mix'.

Never mix on an empty stomach. It adds too much treble.

Andrew Tobias: Are You a Partisan or a Parmesan?
A friend sent an email: "I've been saying 'parmesan' wrong my whole life." Did you get it, too? It included this link to the Cambridge Dictionaries Online and the instruction, "hit the speaker button." Which then intoned the following pronunciation for parmesan (as best I can render it): "penn-sil-VAYN-ya." [Unfortunately, the error has been fixed.]

Limelight was to be Charlie Chaplin's last American film, commenced half a decade after the end of World War II and ready for premiere in the fifth year of the Cold War, made by one of its victims, a "peacemonger" and a rebel who instead of taking the guise of the tramp is now an old clown.

Unless your college advertises on TV at 2 a.m., you've probably never thought of it as a place that could up and vanish one day. 50 Years Since Dylan Went Electric
Newport Folk Festival
This year's Newport Folk Festival plans to pay tribute to the moment when Bob Dylan made rock history by going electric 50 years ago.
The festival, noted for introducing performers who later became big stars, will have a secret lineup of musicians billed as '65 Revisited.
Festival producer Jay Sweet said on Tuesday that nearly a dozen contemporary musicians are included in an "all-star lineup," but the audience won't know who they are until they take the stage to close the festival with a "massive" set celebrating Dylan's 1965 performance.
Dylan first appeared at Newport as a guest of Joan Baez in 1963. His three-song electric set two years later - including "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Maggie's Farm" - is widely viewed as one of the most pivotal moments in rock 'n' roll history. It marked Dylan's break with the folk movement and spurred others to go electric as well.
The Fender Stratocaster guitar Dylan played in the performance sold at auction in 2013 for nearly $1 million, the highest price paid for a guitar at auction.

Manuscript To Future Library
Margaret Atwood
Under a drizzling sky in a forest in Oslo on Tuesday, Canadian literary legend Margaret Atwood submitted an unread manuscript to a project that will keep the work under wraps for the next century.
The Toronto-based Man Booker Prize winner is the first author to hand over an unpublished piece to the Future Library in Oslo.
The international project will see one writer contribute a new, unread text to the collection every year for the next 100 years.
The pieces will be kept locked up until 2114, when 1,000 trees planted for the project in a forest just outside Oslo will be cut down to provide paper for their publication.
The manuscript was sealed in a box, so no one could see how long it was, but Atwood did reveal its title: "Scribbler Moon."

Robert Rodriguez to Direct
'Jonny Quest'
Robert Rodriguez has come on board to co-write and direct a live-action feature adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon "Jonny Quest" for Warner Bros.
"Pirates of the Caribbean" scribe Terry Rossio will co-write with Dan Lin producing through his Lin Pictures banner with Adrian Askarieh via his Prime Universe shingle.
The studio has been in development on an adaptation for quite some time and hopes Rodriguez's angle can help get the film off the ground. First appearing in the form of the 1964 cartoon series "The Adventures of Jonny Quest," the series follows a boy who accompanies his father on extraordinary adventures.
While the series lasted only two seasons, Quest began to build a cult following, leading to a handful of spinoff series that have helped build a fanbase over the past several decades.

Failed Sobriety Test
Sam Shepard
Actor and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard has been booked into the Santa Fe County jail on suspicion of aggravated drunken driving.
Police say Shepard was arrested Monday evening outside La Choza restaurant in downtown Santa Fe.
The 71-year-old Shepard told a police officer that he had two tequila drinks and was planning to drive home. The officer could smell alcohol on Shepard's breath and the actor had bloodshot, watery eyes.
Santa Fe police Lt. Andrea Dobyns says restaurant security called police after becoming concerned about a man who may be intoxicated. The man was trying to leave in a pickup truck, but the vehicle's emergency brake was engaged.
Police say Shepherd declined to take a breath test, but he did perform a field sobriety test, which he failed.

Poachers Decimate Elephant Population
Mozambique
Mozambique has lost half its elephants over the past five years, part of a wave of poaching driven by red-hot demand for ivory from fast-growing Asian economies such as China and Vietnam, a conservation organization said on Tuesday.
The results of a survey indicate the southern African nation's elephant population fell to 10,300 from 20,000 five years ago, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) said in a statement.
The survey was undertaken by the Mozambican government in conjunction with WCS and received donor funding from USAID, the U.S. government's foreign aid agency.
The poaching has been mainly in the Niassa National Reserve in the remote north near the border with Tanzania, an area where conservationists have been raising alarm bells for years.

Box Office Records
Broadway
Broadway's revenue and attendance figures both hit record highs for the third season in a row, fed largely by premium prices and a steady stream of more shows.
The Broadway League said Tuesday that box offices reported a record total gross of $1.36 billion - up from $1.27 billion from the previous season. The trade association for theater owners, operators and producers said attendance was up 7.3 percent to 13.1 million.
The numbers were boosted by steadily increasing ticket prices, high demand from tourists swelling Times Square, reconfigured seating in some theaters, easier tools to buy tickets and the use of premium-priced seating, in which some tickets are snapped up for very high amounts.
The number of playing weeks - Broadway's occupancy rate - was up 8.7 percent from last season's 1,496 playing weeks to end at 1,626 playing weeks. There is a total of 2,080 total playing weeks available each year.

St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Roman Catholic Church
11-Year Protest
Outfitted with Wi-Fi, cable television, snacks and comfortable armchairs, the vestibule at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Roman Catholic Church could easily be mistaken for someone's living room these days, if not for the brilliant stained glass window that takes up an entire wall.
The confessional area and sacristy, where priests vestments are traditionally kept, have been converted into cozy sleeping quarters complete with beds and nightstands.
Ten large, handmade "protest" quilts hang on the walls of the vaulted-roof sanctuary - one for each full year a group of rebel occupants have been taking turns squatting night and day in this long-closed Roman Catholic church.
Organizers say they have no intention of leaving until the Boston archdiocese restores their parish's standing or sells them the building outright. They say they are prepared to be arrested as trespassers, if necessary.
"This is our spiritual home," says Jon Rogers, a lead organizer. "We've been taught for years that this is our church and that it's our responsibility to care for it."

Lawyer Offers Livestock
Kenya
A Kenyan lawyer has offered US president Barack Obama 50 cows and other assorted livestock in exchange for his 16-year old daughter Malia's hand in marriage, a report said Tuesday.
Felix Kiprono said he was willing to pay 50 cows, 70 sheep and 30 goats in order to fulfil his dream of marrying the first daughter.
"I got interested in her in 2008," Kiprono said, in an interview with The Nairobian newspaper. At that time President Obama was running for office for the first time and Malia was a 10-year-old.
"As a matter of fact, I haven't dated anyone since and promise to be faithful to her. I have shared this with my family and they are willing to help me raise the bride price," he said.

Nielsen Survey
Liam Neeson
Ad executives looking for a celebrity to endorse their product can't do much better than actor Liam Neeson.
That's the conclusion of the Nielsen company, which looked at celebrities who made commercials during the first three months of the year and ranked them with a calculation that takes into account likability, public awareness, influence and other factors. Its first "N-Scores" were released Tuesday. Neeson and Pierce Brosnan had identical scores of 94, although Neeson was judged to have a greater influence in getting products sold.
By looking at the effectiveness of celebrity pitchmen, the company best known for television ratings will now compete with Marketing Evaluations Inc., a company that produces the better-known Q Score, a measurement of public attitudes toward well-known figures.
Jeff Bridges stood out among celebrities for the amount of influence he carried with his fans, Nielsen said.
Other celebs with recent ads that scored well in Nielsen's measurement were Jennifer Garner, Natalie Portman, Sofia Vergara, Jim Parsons, Dennis Haysbert and J.K. Simmons.
