Every few months a new compilation of mashups appears under the "Institute Of Bootleggers"
( theinstituteofbootleggers.blogspot.com/ )
banner. No noticeable theme is normally chosen, aside from featuring great audio blends by skilled International Bootleggers. The tracks pretty much conform to the styles most people want to mix & hear.
This time, however, the loose theme is that these were all made, or released during the social distancing we're all practicing currently. Did it affect the content of these tracks? I hope you'll write & tell us. Seriously, we just like getting mail.
On this fine assortment, a sampling of mixes includes Culture Club vs Pet Shop Boys, Maroon 5 vs The Buggles, Madonna vs Michael Jackson, & The Beatles vs Men Without Hats, plus more. The featured bootleggers include popular home producers like Justincredible, GladiLord, Michmash, & warezio, among 12 others.
It remains my immense pleasure to collect, & master the plentiful tracks that fill out each IOB album. I can only say that it would have been so easy to expand this set into a 2 'disc' collection. Still, I always strive for moderation, a technique that serves well.
The Homogenic Chaos provides the preview track " Stan I'm So Crash" ( The Primitives vs Dido vs Lauv & Troye Sivan ). THC has been a fave mixer of mine since around 2004. Here's his track posted solo, for previewing, or downloading -

Joseph Epstein: Death and the Coronavirus (National Review)
Yet why do I see Epicurus, were he alive today, washing his hands yet one more time and checking for his face mask before leaving the house? The man was a philosopher, true, but he was no damn fool.
A French-language version of this song is titled "Les Cavaliers du Ciel", the Spanish-language version is "Jinetes en el cielo", and in 1949, a German-language version titled "Geisterreiter" was recorded. What is the title of this song in English?
When Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple" premiered on Broadway in March, 1965, the play was directed by Mike Nichols, with Walter Matthau as Oscar Madison. Who portrayed Felix Ungar?
The Odd Couple is a play by Neil Simon. Following its premiere on Broadway in 1965, the characters were revived in a successful 1968 film and 1970s television series, as well as several other derivative works and spin-offs. The plot concerns two mismatched roommates: the neat, uptight Felix Ungar and the slovenly, easygoing Oscar Madison. Simon adapted the play in 1985 to feature a pair of female roommates (Florence Ungar and Olive Madison) in The Female Odd Couple. An updated version of the 1965 show appeared in 2002 with the title Oscar and Felix: A New Look at the Odd Couple.
The Odd Couple premiered on Broadway at the Plymouth Theatre on March 10, 1965 and transferred to the Eugene O'Neill Theatre where it closed on July 2, 1967 after 964 performances and two previews. Directed by Mike Nichols, the cast starred Walter Matthau as Oscar Madison and Art Carney as Felix Ungar. The production gained Tony Awards for Walter Matthau, Best Actor (Play), Best Author (Play), Best Direction of a Play, and Best Scenic Design (Oliver Smith), and was nominated for Best Play.
Matthau was replaced with Jack Klugman, starting in November 1965 and later Pat Hingle, starting in February 1966. Carney was replaced with Eddie Bracken starting in October 1965 and later Paul Dooley.

Art Carney. Jack Lemmon played Felix in the film, but I didn't think he was in the Broadway play.
Kevin K. in Washington, DC, replied:
It was Art Carney. Trixie must have divorced him.
Deborah wrote:
Jack Lemmon played Felix. The tv show with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman was fussier; the movie was genius and hilarious. My mother was a fan of the tv show, which is the only reason I watched it. I shared a bedroom with my 2nd sibling, a sister 4 years my junior. She was Oscar to my Felix. It was years before I could appreciate the humor.
Jim from CA, retired to ID, said:
Art Carney
Billy in Cypress U$A answered:
Wiki says it was Art Carney, so I will go with that.
Dave in Tucson replied:
The original Felix Unger was portrayed by Jack Lemmon.
DJ Useo responded:
I think the answer is Art Carney. I wish there was a film we could watch of the stage version.
I did an Art Carney mashup recently. Here's the link. - Art Carney vs Bacari

• When Enrico Caruso was under contract to the Metropolitan Opera, he was forbidden to sing elsewhere unless he had the permission of the Met. Only once did he break his contract. At a benefit for World War I soldiers, he was recognized in the audience and asked to sing "Over There," which he did without hesitation. He then went to the Metropolitan Opera to tell its General Manager, Giulio Gatti-Casazza, that he had broken his contract. Fortunately, when he left Mr. Gatti-Casazza's office, he was beaming. Why? As Mr. Caruso told his wife, "He excuse me."
Crime
• As a young man in Paris, singer Cavaliere di Candia Mario was impoverished and stayed in a cheap lodging house filled with many other people. One night, he woke up to find a man standing over him. Discovering that the man was a robber who wanted the little money he had, Mario told him, "Take all you can find, my friend, but please let me continue my dreams and my sleep."
• Giuseppi Verdi's publisher tried to cheat him in a small matter. This aroused Verdi's suspicions, so he checked his accounts with the publisher for the past 20 years. The publisher was forced to give Verdi 50,000 lira in back commissions.
Critics
• Tommy Ramone worked long and hard to make the Ramones a success. He continually called music critics Danny Fields and Lisa Robinson to get them to come to the Ramones concerts. Because Tommy was so persistent, Danny and Lisa decided that one of them should attend a Ramones concert. Danny was covering another concert, so Lisa went. After the concert, she told Danny, "You have got to see this band. Every song is fabulous, and nothing is longer than 14 seconds. You will love them." Danny went, he liked what he heard, and he offered to be the band's manager. Johnny Ramone replied, "Well, that's very nice. But we really need a new set of drums. Can you buy us a new set of drums?" Danny visited his mother, and due to her generosity, the Ramones got both a new set of drums and a manager.
• Clint Black has been a popular country music for years, and he keeps working to find ways to make good music. In 2007, he was working on an album to be released in early 2008. The album would include a 2007 single titled "The Strong One" and a duet titled "You Still Get to Me" with his wife, Lisa Hartman-Black. Of course, he works hard on his music, and he has a few ways to tell whether an album will be any good. Mr. Black says, "I have to keep inventing ways to make myself make a different, albeit better or worse, record. This one happens to be very, very good, according to me. And the guys who played on it, and the record company who sells it, and ... my dad."
• Joan Hammond once starred in a BBC radio performance of an opera at which she was not present. The opera was Turandot, and she was scheduled to sing two performances. The first performance went well, but the second performance a few days later found Ms. Hammond ill and in bed. Fortunately, the BBC was able to use the recording of Ms. Hammond's part that they had made in recording the first performance and integrate it with the live singers in the radio studio. Ms. Hammond states, "Some kind people even thought that I had sung better on the second night!"

It was during a TV interview earlier this month when Dr. Anthony Fauci was asked who he would want to play him on Saturday Night Live and jokingly said Brad Pitt. In another TV interview on Monday, two days after Pitt portrayed him on NBC's SNL, the Infectious disease specialist was asked how he thought the Oscar winner did.
"I think he did great," Fauci said at the end of an interview about the COVID-19 epidemic with Un Nuevo Dia on NBC sibling Telemundo. "I'm a great fan of Brad Pitt, and that's the reason why when people ask me who I would like to play me, I mention Brad Pitt. He's one of my favorite actors. I think he did a great job."
"I think he showed that he is really a class guy when at the end he took off his hair and thanked me and all of the health care workers," Fauci said. "So, not only is he a really great actor but he is actually a classy person."
SNL's Fauci was pretty blunt in his response to some of Trump's controversial statements, prompting the Un Nuevo Dia reporter to note that Pitt played "a very candid version of yourself" and ask the real Dr. Fauci, "Have any of the things he said on Saturday actually crossed your mind?"
Fauci was pretty much as frank as his impersonation. "Everything he said on SNL is what's going on," the White House task force member said. "He did a pretty good job of putting everything together."
ABC News' Will Reeve got caught going pants-less on "Good Morning America" Tuesday and responded good-naturedly on Twitter.
"I have ARRIVED," he tweeted before adding, "in the most hilariously mortifying way possible."
He was responding to one of the many tweets that called him out for very clearly not being fully dressed below the waist during his morning hit, which was done remotely. Like most other on-air personalities in the age of the coronavirus and social distancing, Reeve was telecommuting, beaming himself into the nationally-aired show live from his living room.
On-air talent often jokes about only wearing business attired up top, even during in-studio hits, but the whole gag hinges on viewers not being able to tell.
Earlier on Tuesday, he responded to the original viral tweet about the slip-up. When Detroit News film critic Adam Graham tweeted a picture of Reeve pushed back a little too far from his home office setup with his legs visible and captioned it "put some pants on," the reporter wrote back, "They're shorts I promise."
First it was Prince William popping up on our screens during the Big Night In fundraising special, which saw him make a very funny joke about Tiger King (yep, even the royals know who Joe Exotic is), now it's his younger brother's turn.
Yep, Prince Harry (who recently stepped away from the spotlight and his role as a senior royal, in favour of a quieter life in California with his wife, Meghan Markle, and son Archie) has taken a turn at recording a cameo... To be honest, if you'd have asked us to place a bet on which show he's guest starring in this really wouldn't have been it.
Harry (and The Queen, but we'll get to that in a moment) has joined forces with a very well known train and his pals - none other than Thomas the Tank Engine. His star turn is in a special episode called Thomas & Friends: The Royal Engine, which has been created to mark the 75th anniversary of the iconic train.
Speaking about the opportunity, Harry said, "Thomas the Tank Engine has been a comforting, familiar face to so many families over the last 75 years - entertaining, educating and inspiring children on important issues through exciting stories and characters."
While Harry appears in real person form, to introduce the celebratory episode, Her Majesty later appears in cartoon guise. The 22-minute plot is centred on Sir Topham Hatt being invited to London by Queen Elizabeth II to receive an award, and a young Prince Charles requesting that Thomas come along too.
Researchers using a battery of modern imaging techniques have gotten under the skin of Johannes Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring," but tests haven't answered the key question about the world famous painting's enigmatic subject.
"Who was the girl?" Martine Gosselink, Director of the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague said in an online presentation Tuesday of new research findings. "Spoiler alert: No, sadly we didn't find out who this young lady was and if she ever really existed. But we did get a little closer to her."
What the 2018 research project did uncover were details including how the Golden Age Dutch master painted the girl and where he got his pigments.
They even confirmed once and for all that the girl has eyelashes and revealed that she is painted in front of a green curtain that has faded from view. Such is the interest in the painting, that even the subject's facial hair - or apparent lack of it - is the subject of academic debate.
The eyelashes weren't the only hairs researchers found. Microscopic scans also revealed tiny fragments from Vermeer's paintbrushes embedded in the girl's skin.
An Alaska school board removed five famous - but allegedly "controversial" - books from district classrooms, inadvertently renewing local interest in the excluded works.
"I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou, "Catch-22" by Joseph Heller, "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien, "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald and "Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison were all taken off an approved list of works that teachers in the Mat-Su Borough School District may use for instruction.
The school board voted 5-2 on Wednesday to yank the works out of teachers' hands starting this fall. The removed books contain content that could potentially harm students, school board Vice President Jim Hart told NBC News on Tuesday.
"Caged Bird" was derided for "anti-white' messaging," "Gatsby" and "Things" are loaded with "sexual references," "Invisible Man" has bad language and "Catch-22" includes violence, according to the school district.
Dianne K. Shibe, president of the Mat-Su Education Association teachers union, said parents and her members were stunned by the board action.
A group of German doctors has stripped naked in a series of photos to show how vulnerable they feel without adequate protective equipment on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.
The group calls its protest Blanke Bedenken, which translates as "naked concerns," saying shortages of protective clothing and equipment are putting their lives at risk.
"We are your general practitioners. To treat you safely, we need protective equipment. If we run out of what little we have, we look like this," one of the group's tweets said next to a naked photo of a male physician.
On its site the group, which was launched on Thursday and has since garnered growing attention online, has featured more photos of doctors posing in their medical practices, some wearing nothing but a stethoscope, hiding their private parts behind medical equipment, paperwork and toilet rolls.
In one of the photos a doctor holds up a sign that reads in German, "I learned to sew wounds. Why do I now need to know how to sew masks?"
Last fall, the birdwatching community was shocked by the appearance of a skulking yellow bird. Birder Matthew Grube first spotted it off of a trail in Redlands, California, and wondered what it was. Birders began noting that it looked like a hybrid of two birds from different taxonomic families. This perplexing creature has recently returned to the area, and it's looking to get some action.
Grube's bird started making the rounds on social media in September. At first glance, it looked like a yellow-breasted chat, a slinking and enigmatic bird that has confused ornithologists for a century. But on closer inspection, this bird wasn't so easy to ID. Its bill was long and pointy, and it featured stripes across its wings like orioles have. It also had lots of patterning on its back, while chats' backs are plain.
Birders immediately began to suspect that the bird could be the hybrid result of a chat mating with an oriole. Except not only are they members of different species and genera (the level above species), they're in different families as well. Orioles are in the Icteridae family, with blackbirds and meadowlarks, while chats are in their own family, the Icteriidae. The California bird had distinguishing features of both.
Grube spotted the again bird this past weekend, and it was singing a raucous, chat-like song, but, Grube noted, in a somewhat raspier and coarser voice. Birds sing in order to attract the attention of a mate and defend territory.
Fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand filmed a rare encounter with pink dolphins, which scientists say are becoming bolder in the absence of tourists during the coronavirus pandemic.
The footage shows three pink dolphins swimming close to a fishing boat in calm waters off Koh Pha Ngan, an island in southeastern Thailand.
Thailand's pink dolphins are a subspecies of the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin and are listed as a vulnerable species by the International Union For Conservation of Nature.
There are around 150 of these pink dolphins living around the Gulf of Thailand, according to Kongkiat Kittiwatanawong, the director of the Phuket Marine Biological Center.
