M Is FOR MASHUP - April 15th, 2008
MashStix Countdown Radio Hits The Internets!

www.mashstix.com
is a newish site that's come on strong through its technique of review & link. It is not a forum where all comment, but instead an applied method of examination & dissemination. For instance, I submit my info & mashup directly to
MASHSTIX where it sits in order until the
MASHSTIX review team is assigned the enjoyable task of listening & commenting. Then through the employment of a pre-written format, the reviewer assesses the bootlegs' strengths & weaknesses. A bootlegger likes the regular feedback you find at a forum that fuels the creative arena, but with this kind of tempered review, an opportunity to grow as a mixer arises far beyond that of any social forum.
MASHSTIX environment resembles that of a college curriculum more than any monging threads, as fun as they are.
Through the exciting process of
MASHSTIX review, the posts that get the best reception are the cream of the crop. Each mention of a track contains no mp3, but instead the link to the mixers' blog. There, you can hear for yourself & compare your reaction to the
MASHSTIX REVIEW TEAM 'S critiques.Paul Stix, Owner/Webmaster & Anna E., Editor head up a stunningly-talented review team containing peeps like G3rst, DJ Clive$ter, mARKYbOY, & The Reborn Identity among several notable others.
http://www.mashstix.com/TeamStix.php A sidetrip to any of the review team member's sites will surely yield terrific tunes untold. I mean you might read a review by Phil Retrospector, or Dan Mei, both mixers riding the crest of the mashup scene, & then you get to add your vote! Much easier than scripting a response, innit?
What best way to heighten the fun of
MASHSTIX? Hmm... maybe a radio countdown of the top ten
MASHSTIX tracks of the week? You are correct, as RADIOSTIX the
MASHSTIX RADIO COUNTDOWN PROGRAM is launched.
MASHSTIX has joined together in a listener-pleasing collective venture with
SOUND-UNSOUND WADIO known as RADIOSTIX. I was honoured with the position of mic-rider (host) after several
MASHSTIX peeps heard me on
www.sound-unsound.com during my Friday show with DJ Petrushka called SOUND-UNSOUND THIS WEEK. The excitement I have for the show is evident in my voice. Come & check it out! Here's a look at the tracks from the first countdown. A stronger lot would be hard to find.
(But the
MASHSTIX crew did! Tune in next Sunday at 8:30 pm gmt 3:30 pm est at
http://www.sound-unsound.com & witness the truth of my statement. All you got'ta do is click the radio button!)

Surely, the lover of fine bootlegs has never been in such a pleasing spot.
Next week a blog launches with the past shows re-posted. Surely, the icing on the mashup cake.
And you know what happens when you listen to mashups! You run right out & buy the label source artists! It's a blast playing the new Depeche Mode & comparing the variations you hear from a Pheugoo or a DJ Moule.
Thanks for reading my little article & I return you now to the excellent Marty's BARTCOP ENTERTAINMENT.
PS.Thanks very much to the wonderful DJ Petrushka who insisted on guest-scripting last week's M Is For Mashup article on Sfreeman. She is having some troubling health matters & we all wish her a speedy recovery.

To Polarize or Not to Polarize, that is the Question the right raises about President Barack Obama. That plus distorting much of what he has to say.
And Pastor Rick Warren reneged on This Week because he has contradicted himself mightily in statements about his support of gay marriage bans. . . . Is he repenting his earlier bigotry?
Plus the economy-is it wrong to long to see the bankers frog-marched to jail? And is Defense Secretary Gates Really cutting costs? Where has Obama pleased and where has he disappointed-it's close on 90 days, to to evaluate.
And behold, we have a First Dog-Bo, a Portuguese Water Hound-and of course, there is a controversy about pound versus breeder. Pedro says NONSENSE and welcomes Bo with a wag of the tail instead of a growl. What's not to love?
Happy Passover and Happy Easter, all. And Spring Break, of course.

She did, and this nine year old was shocked to learn that her life expectancy was 17."
John and Kaye Andremar: Gay marriage won't hurt anyone in Iowa
The idea of same-sex marriage just isn't scary anymore. Opponents will have a difficult time whipping up the usual fear-mongering on this issue. ... today almost everyone knows and likes a gay person - a gay friend, relative or co-worker. A waiter at my favorite restaurant is gay. He has a sparkling personality and a big smile. The Realtor who helped us buy our house is gay.

SOME 25 YEARS have passed since the publication of Paul Fussell's naughty treat "Class: A Guide Through the American Status System," and I think this quarter-century mark merits the raising of either a yachting pennant, an American flag, or a wind sock with the Budweiser logo (corresponding to Fussell's demarcations of Upper Class, Middle Class, and Prole).

Not every job interview goes the way we want it to. As a young man wanting to break into publishing, Garrison Keillor, now of "A Prairie Home Companion fame," took a bus to Boston for an interview for a job at The Atlantic. He arrived an hour early, went to a bathroom in The Atlantic building, took off his shirt and washed himself with paper towels. During this bathing process, a man came into the bathroom and made an effort not to look at him. As you may expect, given the world we live in, this man turned out to be the man interviewing Mr. Keillor, who says, "It was a polite interview, and I did not get the job."

The 'Know thy Enemy' Edition...
The ancient Chinese military tactician Sun Tzu (400-320 BC) wrote in his acclaimed work, The Art of War...
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not your enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle."
I whole-heartedly believe in that wisdom and think that progressives should peruse conservative web sites regularly in order to keep up with current conservative trends, strategy and dogma. i.e Know thy Enemy.
That said, the question is... Do you read any conservative web sites and if so, which ones?

Last Night
We hit the road at 4am, stopped for eats around 7-ish, and rolled into Lincoln around 11am. Visited a bit, then drove down to Sacramento, and visited some more, then headed home.
Drove over 800 miles in a bit under 19 hours, and besides having a raging headache, I'm just plain tired.
So, called an audible & cut today's page down - and decided to let the trivia question slide an extra day.
Things will be back to what passes for normal tomorrow.
