(DJ Useo is in the hospital and suggested this re-run. Get well soon, Konrad! ~marty)
By DJ Useo
Whoah! The flood of new bootleg mashup mixes is on! Lately I just can't keep up with the constant cool tracks you'd like if you heard them. I see there's lots of new names posting stuff. That's always a good thing 'cuz it brings lots of new energy to the scene in general. Even if a new mixer needs more experience, just having them participate gives stimulis to any listeners. You never know for sure if you'll feel challenged or assured when you hear some new mixers work. One of the most influential & new of the current crop, Madeon http://www.myspace.com/madeon , is totally blowing everyone away. Are there other upcoming mixers posting today who can give good mix satisfaction?Let's try a few random posts around the net & see what we find.
01 - Interestingly, & completely at random, I assure you, the first mashup by a newbie I found was 'Icarus' Last Dance' (David Austin's V12 Mix) ( Madeon vs Labrinth) by David Austin. Right away it sounded beautiful. The added vocals were mixed wonderfully. The balance & production sound is overwhelmingly fine. I left this mix thinking I'll make sure to look for more by David Austin. First track I ever heard by him, yet I hear a lot of the new mashups.
Listen here

02 - Dr. Brixx has a new track called 'Turn That Damn Name On' (Guetta/BonJovi/Paramore/AllTimeLow). It has a fine sound & good appeal through the mixing. The mix enchants you quickly & before you know it, it's over & you want another listen. Dr. Brixx also appears to have it going on as far as his mix talents. There's no download but you can
stream it here
( soundcloud.com/doctor-brixx/turn-that-damn-name-on )
03 - DJ B Reul has a fun new mashup called 'Loca Bus Short' (Sak Noel vs The Venga Boys). It's got lively, yet easy-going electro music with easy to comprehend & fun lyrics. I could play this track for just about anyone & have a good response. It's ok for the mainstream crowd & I think the more avant garde types would still like it. This one carves a wide swath of listeners. Count me in for more tracks by DJ B Reul.

04 - DJ Em-Tee is next with his mashup 'F#ck School vs Teardrop' (Avicii, Nicky Romero & Coldplay) does a similar path musically by employing very popular artists, yet mixing them in such a fashion as to achieve a new mix bullet! The combined effect of the source tracks, alongside some warm, solid production sound gives large satisfaction. Again, with a chuckle, I confess I'd enjoy more mashups from DJ EM-Tee.
Here's them here
( soundcloud.com/dj-em-tee/teardrop-vs-fuck-school-avicii )
05 - Ericcccc states that he was inspired by Madonna's performance in the recent Super Bowl to mix up 'Sexy Music Anthem' (LMFAO vs Madonna). Well, it's good fortune for us as this mix is super fine for listening. A way cool old skool double feel, yet it's new. Good solid sound propels it hard. I got'ta say no to the short length though. It should easily be twice as long.
See what you think here

Well, we found out that there's a massive amount of upcoming mashup talent. They have big skills & are able to mix with modern artists & supply hit satisfaction. There's lots more new mixers out there, of course, & apparently most of them are on Soundcloud.com. Lol. Drop me a line if you find a particular artist or track you want me to mention here.

Well the numbers for my new double ABC mashup single are good, but I've not heard any reply. Not a one. Of course I played them for peeps before I even considered releasing them, & heard nice words. I love 'em both, but that's a given when I go as far as to release a mashup. The first is '
Be Near Doors' (Doors vs ABC). Listen for bits of the Doors singing 'crystal ship' & 'take it as it comes' over instrumental of ABC.

The other mix is called 'How To Be A Divine Hammer' (ABC vs The Breeders). It has ABC singing over rock music from the Breeders. It sure would be nice iffen one'a youse mugs would drop me a line & offer your response to the two ABC mixes. You might have fun.

Eliot Spitzer
Controversy didn't equal ratings for Current TV in the case of Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer, which replaced Countdown after Keith Olbermann was suddenly axed by the network last week.
Spitzer's debut pulled only 47,000 total viewers, with just 10,000 in the key 25-54 demographic. While viewership is generally depressed on Fridays, that's still down 74 percent compared with Olbermann's March average in the 8 p.m. time slot.
Olbermann was fired Thursday, with Current founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt citing breach of contract, sabotage and disparagement. He is scheduled to discuss the controversial termination on CBS' Late Show With David Letterman on Tuesday.
Low ratings aren't the first snafu to plague Viewpoint. Before the show's debut, Current TV issued an announcement encouraging viewers to "follow Spitzer on Twitter (@ESpitzer). As TV Newser first reported, Spitzer doesn't have an account on the social media site. "Our apologies that this was incorrect in the release," a representative for Current said.

Springfield, Oregon
'The Simpsons'
One of the best-kept secrets in television history has been unmasked, with "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening revealing the Springfield in Oregon is the basis for the hometown of his characters.
The admission came in an interview with Smithsonian Magazine published online Tuesday.
Groening says he was inspired by the television show "Father Knows Best," which took place in a place called Springfield. Springfield, Ore., is 100 miles south of Groening's hometown of Portland.
The show has made a running joke of hiding the true Springfield's location. In one episode, daughter Lisa points to Springfield on a map, but the animated "camera view" is blocked by son Bart's head.

Set To Sail
Stephen Bogart
The son of actor Humphrey Bogart will follow in his father's wake by taking a ride on the African Queen to help relaunch the newly restored riverboat that co-starred in the classic movie by that name.
Stephen Bogart will board the 100-year-old steamboat on Thursday as it plies the waters off the Florida Keys for the first time since undergoing a $60,000 renovation.
"I'm going to see it and take a little ride," said Bogart, a 63-year-old real estate agent who lives in Naples on Florida's southern Gulf Coast.
Bogart was 8 when his father died from throat cancer and said he welcomed the chance to pay tribute to the 1951 movie. Humphrey Bogart won an Academy Award for best actor for his portrayal of Charlie Allnut, the unkempt, unflappable and hard-drinking captain of the African Queen.

Robin Gibb
Bee Gees star Robin Gibb was too ill to attend the London premiere of "The Titanic Requiem," his first classical work, his son said Tuesday.
Robin Gibb composed the symphonic piece with his son, Robin-John Gibb, and was scheduled to perform a new song, "Don't Cry Alone," during the premier concert at The Royal Albert Hall.
But in a message read out to the audience, Robin-John said his 62-year-old father is still in hospital.
The requiem, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, commemorates the April 1912 sinking of the ocean liner and the loss of more than 1,500 lives.

Abandons Studio Project
Lucasfilm
A company owned by filmmaker George Lucas said Tuesday it has abandoned plans to build a big digital production studio on historic farmland in Marin County, citing opposition from neighbors worried about its impact on the environment.
Lucasfilm Ltd., the force behind the Star Wars movies, said it pulled the plug on the Grady Ranch project and planned to construct new facilities elsewhere.
Lucasfilm said it hopes to sell the land in Lucas Valley to a developer interested in building housing for low-income residents.
The Marin County planning commission unanimously approved the studio project in February. Backers said it would generate jobs and revenue for the local economy.
But plans for the 270,000-square-foot complex prompted fierce opposition from homeowners who said it would generate noise, traffic and environmental damage on the pristine countryside about a half-mile north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Doctor Surrenders License
Donald Jay Altfeld
A Southern California doctor who co-wrote a classic song performed by the Beach Boys surrendered his medical license Monday amid allegations that he prescribed medications for himself, according to the Medical Board of California.
In a decision made public Monday, the state licensing agency alleged Dr. Donald Jay Altfeld prescribed Xanax, Norco and other drugs for himself, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Altfeld co-wrote the song "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena," which was first recorded by duo Jan & Dean and went to No. 3 on Billboard's pop music chart.
It was later performed by the Beach Boys on 1964's "Beach Boys Concert," an album that went to No. 1 on Billboard charts.
In August of 2010, Altfeld was seen wandering his Ventura neighborhood barefoot and wearing feces-covered long johns, according to the filing.

Stalker Arrested
Alec Baldwin
Police say a Canadian actress accused of stalking Alec Baldwin sent him a string of emails begging him to marry her.
Genevieve Sabourin was arraigned on aggravated harassment and stalking charges Monday, a day after her arrest in New York City.
Police say Sabourin crashed a film screening Baldwin was hosting on April 5 and had to be thrown out by security guards.
Sabourin's lawyer at the arraignment was Julie Sender. She says her client and Baldwin had a two-year "mutual relationship."

More Leaked Voicemails
'Community'
A second voicemail message from Chevy Chase leaked online Tuesday, depicting a deep rift between the veteran comedian and the creators of his ratings-challenged NBC sitcom "Community."
The show's creator, Dan Harmon, played voicemails from Chase at a Los Angeles comedy show last year. They have since found their way on to the Internet, including a recording released Tuesday by Celebuzz.com.
Though the recordings left on Harmon's phone appear to have taken place during the show's second season, they reveal just how badly things have been for Chase and "Community." The now-68-year-old "Fletch" and "National Lampoon" star was initially meant to be the most familiar face to the show, which has generally found critical acclaim and a cultish following.
Harmon last week wrote a lengthy apology on his Tumblr page for what he called a "horrible, childish, self-obsessed, unaware, naive and unprofessional decision to play someone's voicemail to me."
"I was airing my dirty laundry for a chuckle," Harmon wrote. "That was a dumb, unclassy, inconsiderate move on my part. I'm very sorry it's reflecting poorly on the show."

300 To 600 Children?
Bertold Wiesner
New DNA tests suggest the owner of a British fertility clinic may have fathered as many as 600 children, while keeping his donations a secret. And in an even stranger twist, one of his newly discovered offspring says the man's belief in eugenics may have been behind the decision.
The Telegraph reports that Bertold Wiesner and his wife operated a fertility clinic in the 1940s and were responsible for helping more than 1,500 families conceive. Two of the children conceived through clinic donations, Barry Stevens and David Gollancz, took part in DNA testing that revealed both were conceived using Wiesner's sperm.
"Using standard figures for the number of live births which result, including allowances for twins and miscarriages, I estimate that he is responsible for between 300 and 600 children," Gollancz told the paper.
Eighteen people conceived through the clinic between 1943 and 1962 were tested, with about two-thirds of them matching Wiesner's DNA. However, it's nearly impossible to determine exactly how many of the 1,500 children came directly from Wiesner, since his wife Mary Barton reportedly destroyed the records from the clinic. Wiesner himself died in the early 1970s.
Stevens told the Toronto Star that because of the donations he might have as many as 1,000 relatives he has never met. In addition, the Star reports that Austrian-born Wiesner was a "Communist sympathizer," who belonged to a club of "left-wing biologists" who supporter experimental medical techniques.

Fungus Behind Die-Off Came From Europe
Bats
The mysterious deaths of millions of bats in the United States and Canada over the past several years were caused by a fungus that hitchhiked from Europe, scientists reported Monday.
Experts had suspected that an invasive species was to blame for the die-off from "white nose syndrome." Now there's direct evidence the culprit was not native to North America.
The fungal illness has not caused widespread deaths among European bats unlike in the U.S. and Canada. In North America more than 5.7 million bats have died since 2006 when white nose syndrome was first detected in a cave in upstate New York. The disease does not pose a threat to humans, but people can carry fungal spores.
It's unclear exactly how the fungus crossed the Atlantic, but one possibility is that it was accidentally introduced by tourists. Spores are known to stick to people's clothes, boots and caving gear.
White nose syndrome has killed bats in four Canadian provinces and 19 U.S. states, mostly in the Northeast and South. Last week, the illness marched west of the Mississippi River, infecting bats in Missouri.
