The 'Ten Little Questions' Edition
It's Census time again! (What? Already? Didn't we just do this 10 years ago?)
so, just fer fun, I'll add four of my own...
1.) Did you fill out your census form and send it back yet?
2.) If not, will you?
3.) Did you answer all the questions?
4.) If not, what questions didn't you answer and why?
(Warning! Big Brother says we have to fill it out and return it otherwise we'll get a knock on the door from the friendly Census Police politely asking us to do so...
Go easy on the poor bastards, eh? They're mostly unemployed people trying to make a few bucks and probably are scared to death that they're gonna get slammed. It's not their fault, OK?... P.S. you answers here are entirely confidential and will not be shared with ANYBODY, especially You-Know-Who...)

WTF Story
Albert Snyder got a bill for $16,500 on Friday -- the latest result of his ongoing legal battle with the Westboro Church of Insane Nut Jobs... The Nut Jobs are seeking to recoup costs from federal appeals court, which dismissed Snyder's lawsuit against them. The Insane, led by the Head Nut Job Fred Phelps, preaches an anti-homosexual message. Fellow Nut Jobs maintain that combat deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan are God's retribution for America's tolerance of gay men and lesbian women. The Nut Jobs have promoted that agenda with a series of intentionally provocative and insane demonstrations outside funerals of servicemen and women who were killed in combat, during which they chant and hold signs bearing messages such as "Thank God For Dead Soldiers."
Marine Dad Must Pay Westboro Court Fees
(Hello, God? Are you saying, "You're welcome"? I hope not...)
The Nut Jobs staged such a protest outside the funeral for Snyder's son, Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, in Westminster, MD. Snyder sued the Nut Jobs, and a Baltimore jury awarded him $5 million in damages for invasion of privacy and emotional distress. But the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned that decision on First Amendment grounds in September 2009. (You Bastards!)
Attention, Nut Jobs!... I, BadtotheboneBob, point my finger directly at yer grotesquely despicable faces and Damn you, DAMN YOU, to the Hell of yer understanding... Burn, Baby, Burn...

Prom-Bound
Constance McMillen
An attorney says a lesbian student who sued a Mississippi school over its policy banning same-sex prom dates can bring her girlfriend to a privately sponsored dance.
Itawamba County school board attorney Michele Floyd said Tuesday that 18-year-old Constance McMillen can escort her girlfriend to the dance Friday at the Fulton Country Club.
The private prom replaces one the school district canceled rather than let McMillen wear a tuxedo and bring her girlfriend, who is also a student at Itawamba Agricultural High School.
A federal judge ruled last week that the district's actions violated McMillen's constitutional rights, but he didn't reinstate the school prom.

"Late Night" Stones Tribute
Phish
Phish is the first group confirmed to perform during the weeklong Rolling Stones tribute on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" next month, the jam band's first television performance since it reunited in 2009.
A host of superstar acts will cover songs from the Stones' "Exile on Main Street" during the week beginning May 10, coinciding with the May 18 deluxe reissue of that landmark 1972 album.
Although it was not announced which "Exile" song Phish will play on its May 13 "Late Night" appearance, the band has long covered "Loving Cup" in concert and of late has begun adding "Shine a Light" to its set list. Last Halloween, the group performed all 18 "Exile" tracks during its Festival 8 event in Indio, Calif.
Festival 8 is the subject of "Phish 3D," a new film set to premiere April 30 for a one-week run in select U.S. theaters. Preview screenings are set for nine U.S. cities on April 20; details can be found on Phish.com. Phish begins a summer North American tour on June 11 outside Chicago. The trek concludes with an August 17-18 stand at Jones Beach in Wantagh, N.Y.

Causes Stir With Nude Video
Erykah Badu
American soul singer Erykah Badu has caused a stir with a music video in which she strips naked in public at the site of President John F. Kennedy's assassination, and falls to the ground as if shot.
Badu, 39, released the "Window Seat" music video as part of the promotion of her fifth studio album "New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh)", released on Tuesday.
The Dallas-born entertainer strips down in Dealey Plaza in the city center, and falls to the ground with a jerk at the sound of a rifle shot, which was edited into the five-and-a-half minute video.
She told the Dallas Morning News in an interview that she chose the famous 'grassy knoll' at Dealey Plaza because "it was the most monumental place in Dallas I could think of."

Two Saved From Closure
L.A. Theaters
A pair of historic movie theaters in Los Angeles have been saved from a final curtain call.
The neighboring Village and Bruin theaters in Westwood -- founded in 1931 and 1937, respectively -- have been operated for the past few decades by Mann Theatres, which had tagged them for closure. Each theater has only one screen, an anachronism in an age of multiplexes with stadium seating and 3D screens.
But regional theater operator Regency Theatres said Tuesday that it has agreed to take over the properties on unspecified terms starting Thursday.
Mann -- which is owned by Cinemerica, a co-venture of Warner Bros. and Paramount-parent Viacom Inc -- will continue to operate eight theaters in the Los Angeles area, including the landmark Grauman's Chinese in Hollywood. Cinemerica has been searching for a buyer for the Chinese for two years.

Scrapping `Become A Fan Of' For `Like'
Facebook
Facebook is about to change the way it asks its users to connect to brands and celebrities on the site. Rather than ask people to "become a fan" of say, Starbucks or Lady Gaga, Facebook will instead let users click that they like the subject.
Facebook already lets people show that they like comments or pictures posted on the site, and it says users click that term almost twice as much as they click "become a fan." Facebook says changing the button will make users more comfortable with linking up with a brand and will streamline the site.
Businesses use Facebook pages, which are free to create, to connect with their customers and promote their brands. Facebook makes money from the advertisements these companies often use to draw users to their pages. The average user becomes a fan of four pages each month, according to Facebook.
The world's largest online social network is known for constantly tweaking the way users experience the site. This often draws complaints, but Facebook continues to draw millions of new fans. More than half of its 400 million users log in every day.

US Concerned By Plan
Australian Internet Filter
The United States has raised concerns with Australia about the impact of a proposed Internet filter that would place restrictions on Web content, an official said Monday.
The concerns of Australia's most important security ally further undermine plans that would make Australia one of the strictest Internet regulators among the world's democracies.
Internet giants Google and Yahoo have condemned the proposal as a heavy-handed measure that could restrict access to legal information.
Australian Communications Minister Stephen Conroy says the filter would block access to sites that include child pornography, sexual violence and detailed instructions in crime or drug use. The list of banned sites could be constantly updated based on public complaints. If adopted into law, the screening system would make Australia one of the strictest Internet regulators among the world's democracies.

Garner-Affleck Stalker Insane
Steven Burky
A judge is sending a man arrested outside a school attended by Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck's daughter to a state mental hospital.
Los Angeles County District Attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison says Steven Burky pleaded no contest Tuesday to two counts of stalking the celebrity couple and their children.
Robison says a judge found the 37-year-old to be not guilty of the offenses by reason of insanity after a hearing. Burky was ordered to stay away from Garner, Affleck and their family for 10 years if he is released.
Burky was arrested in December outside a school attended by one of the couple's daughter, a violation of a civil restraining order Garner obtained in 2008.

Pleads Not Guilty
Rip Torn
Actor Rip Torn pleaded not guilty Tuesday to burglary and firearms charges stemming from his January arrest inside a Connecticut bank after hours.
State police have said the 79-year-old Emmy award winner was so intoxicated on the night of Jan. 29 that he broke into the Litchfield Bancorp branch with a loaded gun, thinking it was his home in Salisbury in northwestern Connecticut.
Superior Court Judge James P. Ginocchio allowed him to remain free on $100,000 bond, under the condition that he stay away from alcohol. Torn said he was more than happy to comply.
Torn's attorney, A. Thomas Waterfall, said the actor, who is currently appearing in the movie "Happy Tears," has moved from an inpatient to an outpatient rehabilitation program.

University of Wyoming Cancels Speech
William Ayers
The University of Wyoming has canceled a speech by former 1960s radical William Ayers after it raised hundreds of objections from citizens and politicians over the man who became an issue in the 2008 presidential campaign.
In a statement released by the university, UW President Tom Buchanan supported the decision to cancel Ayers.
Ayers was scheduled to speak Monday on the Laramie campus about social justice issues and education. The following day, he was to participate in a teleconference with Wyoming school principals.
He was invited by the UW Social Justice Research Center, a privately endowed center that studies problems of oppression and inequalities among different social groups in society.

3 New Excuses
Vatican't
Dragged deeper than ever into the clerical sex abuse scandal, the Vatican is launching a legal defense that it hopes will shield the pope from a lawsuit in Kentucky seeking to have him answer attorneys' questions under oath.
Court documents obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press show that Vatican lawyers plan to argue that the pope has immunity as head of state, that American bishops who oversaw abusive priests weren't employees of the Vatican, and that a 1962 document is not the "smoking gun" that provides proof of a cover-up.
The Holy See is trying to fend off the first U.S. case to reach the stage of determining whether victims actually have a claim against the Vatican itself for negligence for allegedly failing to alert police or the public about Roman Catholic priests who molested children.
The case was filed in 2004 in Kentucky by three men who claim they were abused by priests and claim negligence by the Vatican. Their attorney, William McMurry, is seeking class-action status for the case, saying there are thousands of victims across the country.
Plaintiffs in the Kentucky suit argue that U.S. diocesan bishops were employees of the Holy See, and that Rome was therefore responsible for their alleged wrongdoing in failing to report abuse.

Reckless, Angry Conservative
Harry K. Weisiger
A 70-year-old Nashville man was accused of ramming his sport utility vehicle several times into the back of a vehicle that had a Obama/Biden bumper sticker. Harry K. Weisiger, a retiree, made obscene gestures and pointed at the campaign sticker for President Barack Obama and running mate Joe Biden before he smashed into schoolteacher Mark Duren's car, police said. Weisiger has been charged with reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of the accident and refusing to take a field sobriety test.
Duren had picked up his 10-year-old daughter from school Thursday when he stopped near the Belmont University campus. An SUV pulled up behind his Toyota Camry and the driver began honking and gesturing angrily toward the bumper sticker, The Tennessean reported.
As Duren drove home, the SUV's driver continued making gestures and pointing at the sticker, according to a police report.
The driver, identified by Nashville police as Weisiger, accelerated and crashed into the bumper, directly over the sticker.
Duren tried to calm his frightened daughter as he stopped and Weisiger rammed it again, trying to push it off the road, police said. After a few more pushes, the SUV sped away and Duren called 911.

In Memory
Jaime Escalante
Jaime Escalante, the math teacher who transformed a tough East Los Angeles high school and inspired the movie "Stand and Deliver," died Tuesday. He was 79.
Escalante died at his son's home near Sacramento, after battling bladder cancer for several years, family friend Keith Miller said.
An immigrant from Bolivia, he transformed Garfield High School by motivating struggling students to excel at advanced math and science. The school had more advanced placement calculus students than all but four other public high schools in the country.
Edward James Olmos played Escalante in the 1988 film based on his story.
"Jaime exposed one of the most dangerous myths of our time - that inner city students can't be expected to perform at the highest levels," Olmos said. "Because of him, that destructive idea has been shattered forever."
Escalante was a teacher in La Paz before he emigrated to the U.S. He had to study English at night for years to get his California teaching credentials and return to the classroom.
At first he was discouraged by Garfield's "culture of low expectations, gang activity and administrative apathy," Miller said.
Gradually, he overhauled the school's math curriculum and enabled students who were previously considered unteachable to master the advanced placement calculus test.
Escalante left Garfield in 1991, taught at schools in Sacramento and retired to Bolivia in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, and six grandchildren.
