Mashups In Cartoon Form - Mashy Jones!
By DJ Useo
I used to draw a cartoon back in 2007 about a grouchy guy who thought his mashups were so great he wouldn't let people hear them, often choosing to delete them rather than let them be heard by 'unworthies'. lol. Mashy Jones was his name & it still is as I unveil these newly written & drawn episodes. The first one is the original strip from 2007, & the next 4 are NEW!
I hope they are tolerable. I could do computer lettering, but I like the hand-scrawled feel. Wouldn't it be cool if Mashy got picked up by some music rag?

DJ Useo's 'Mix Of Useo-Mashups' is 43 minutes of thorough mixing that runs the gamut from Akon to Blue Oyster Cult to Rinkadink all performed as mashups.

David Bruce: Wise Up! Good Deeds (Athens News)
Elliott K. Snedecor once saw the late Ray Charles perform in Chicago. During the concert, Mr. Charles told about a good deed that a pilot had performed for him. Mr. Charles was blind, and he had a seeing-eye dog, a golden retriever. During a stop for refueling, the pilot took a walk to stretch his legs, and he offered to walk Mr. Charles' seeing-eye dog. Mr. Charles accepted the offer, but it led to a mishap. The day was sunny, and the pilot wore dark sunglasses while walking the seeing-eye dog. Mr. Snedecor recounts the end of the story: "Some of the passengers scheduled to board at that stop refused to get on the plane. Turns out they were scared to fly with a pilot who seemed to need a seeing-eye dog!"

CNN
CNN is angrily denying that correspondent Nic Robertson and other journalists were used by the Libyan government as human shields against an attack on Moammar Gadhafi's compound.
Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin reported Monday that the British military had to call off an attack on the Libyan ruler's compound because journalists had been taken there on a trip to view earlier bomb damage. She says Fox correspondent Steve Harrigan avoided the government-sponsored trip because of concern about being used as a shield.
An angry Robertson took to the air on CNN and called the allegation "outrageous and absolutely hypocritical." He says Fox sent a security guard with a camera on the same trip.
Griffin apologized for not noting the Fox presence, but stood by the human shields charge.

The television network will announce at Tuesday's upfront presentation to advertisers in New York that it has picked up a trio of reality series -- "Haunted Collector," "Legend Quest" and "Paranormal Witness" -- to launch later this year.
The series will join the network's growing cadre of unscripted hits, including "Ghost Hunters," "Destination Truth" and "Face Off," which was recently renewed for a second season.
The announcement follows continued ratings gains at the NBC Universal-owned network, where primetime viewership this quarter is up 13 percent in total viewers and 7 percent in the advertiser-beloved demographic of adults 18-49 compared to the same period a year earlier.

'Spider-Man'
Is this the curse of the Spider-Woman?
T.V. Carpio stepped in to replace another actress injured in Broadway's troubled "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark." She has now herself been sidelined after an accident.
Producers of the $65 million musical said Tuesday that Carpio was hurt last week during an onstage battle scene. She plays an evil spider woman called Arachne and will be out of the show for the next two weeks.
Carpio was elevated from a smaller role when her predecessor, Natalie Mendoza, pulled out. She suffered a concussion in December when her head was hit offstage by rope.

Sues Sirius Over Bonus
Howard Stern
Howard Stern and his agent are suing satellite radio provider Sirius XM Radio Inc for refusing to award the performance-based stock options it had promised the radio shock jock.
In a filing with the Supreme Court of the state of New York, Stern's lawyers say the satellite radio company offered Stern a series of escalating stock awards in 2004 that hinged on it beating its subscriber estimates by 2 million or more in any year of Stern's contract.
The complaint said that Stern helped the company surpass its targets by more than 2 million subscribers in 2006 and 2007. After Sirius' merger with XM in 2008, Sirius XM again beat its targets, as well as in 2009 and 2010, according to the filing.
"Now that Sirius has conquered its chief competitor and acquired more than 20 million subscribers, it has reneged on its commitment to Stern, unilaterally deciding that it has paid him enough," the complaint said.

Another Day, Another Temper Tantrum
Chris Brown
Chris Brown trashed his dressing room at "Good Morning America" and broke a window with a chair Tuesday after co-host Robin Roberts asked him about his attack on Rihanna, according to a person familiar with the show.
The person was not authorized to discuss the matter and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Security was called, but not police.
Brown was on the ABC morning show Tuesday to promote his new album, "F.A.M.E.," released the same day. During his interview with Roberts, she asked him about the 2009 attack on his then-girlfriend - preceding her questions by noting he had been "very good" about talking about the attack.
A clearly agitated Brown tried to deflect the line of questioning, saying he was past that and wanted to focus on his new CD.

Co-Star Arrested
`Pawn Stars'
"Pawn Stars" reality TV show co-star Corey "Big Hoss" Harrison has been arrested after a barroom run-in at a California mountain resort.
San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Arden Wiltshire says the 27-year-old Las Vegas man shoved a deputy and security guard late Sunday at Murray's Saloon and Eatery in Big Bear Lake about 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
Harrison was booked into the Big Bear Lake jail for investigation of battery and resisting arrest after the incident. Wiltshire says Harrison was held for a couple of hours to let him sober up.
The San Bernardino County Sun says Harrison and another customer got into an argument, and the deputy and guard were attacked while investigating the dispute.

The woman declined medical treatment but Lohan was booked on suspicion of injuring a cohabitant and false imprisonment, a West Hollywood sheriff's department spokesman said.

New York City police say rocker Lou Reed's manager has been arrested on a charge of aggravated harassment after allegations he threatened to kill a consultant in a dispute over money.
Tommy Sarig was arrested Sunday in the dispute with Adrian Smith, who works with the rich and famous to find personal assistants and other help.
Smith told police Sarig threatened to kill him after he tried to get $11,500 he said was owed to him for helping find the "Walk on the Wild Side" singer a new personal assistant.
Police say he has no prior criminal history and was given a desk appearance ticket to appear in Manhattan court.

Wreck Chasers Clash
Philadelphia
Wreck chasing in Philadelphia will move from reality TV to a murder trial after a judge Tuesday held a tow truck driver on charges he fatally mowed down a rival in a videotaped turf dispute.
Glen McDaniel and Ray Santiago worked for competing companies and found themselves at the same busy intersection on Sept. 26. After the pair locked horns in a fist fight, McDaniel hopped in his tow truck and ran over Santiago several times, resting his vehicle on the man the third time, authorities said.
The 26-year-old McDaniel was held on murder charges Tuesday in the North Philadelphia slaying. Public defender Andrea Konow declined to comment on the case.
The tow-truck business is serious in Philadelphia, where the cable TV show "Wreck Chasers" was being filmed amid escalating competition - and violence - last year.

Judge Orders Deposition
Steve Jobs
Apple Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs, who is out on medical leave, has been ordered by a federal magistrate to answer questions from plaintiffs' lawyers in an antitrust lawsuit related to his company's iTunes business.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Howard Lloyd, based in San Jose, California, ruled that lawyers representing the plaintiffs in the suit may question Jobs for a total of two hours. He issued the ruling on Monday.
Apple could appeal the ruling to a district judge, but it would likely have to make a case that the magistrate "made a big mistake," said Professor David Levine at University of California Hastings College of the Law.
In the class-action lawsuit, a group of consumers say Apple created a music-downloading monopoly with its iPod player and iTunes store. At issue is a piece of software called Fairplay that allowed only music bought on iTunes to be played on the iPod, according to the complaint.
One competitor, RealNetworks Inc, responded in 2004 by introducing a new technology that would allow customers to play music downloaded from its site on their iPods. Apple quickly announced a software upgrade to iTunes that once more blocked music from RealNetworks, the complaint charges.

Cold Disney Board
Steve Jobs
An influential shareholder advisory firm is recommending that Walt Disney Co investors vote against Steve Jobs' return to the media company's board, citing his poor attendance record at board meetings.
Advisory firm Glass Lewis & Co said the Apple chief executive attended less than 75 percent of the meetings held by the board in fiscal year 2010.
"We believe that in light of Mr. Jobs' continued medical problems, shareholders would be better served by a director able to make the necessary commitment to the company," the Glass Lewis report said.
Jobs is Disney's largest shareholder with 7.29 percent of the shares, according to Glass Lewis.

$4 Million Fake
Mayan Relic
A sculpture of a Mayan warrior that sold for more than $4 million at a Paris auction house this week is a fake, Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History said on Tuesday.
The masked, stone figure, sold by a private collector, was billed as an impressive piece of Pre-Columbian art and was believed to be a unique work dating from around 550 to 950 A.D. It sold for 2.9 million euros ($4.1 million) on Monday.
But Mexican experts at the institute who studied the auction catalog said the piece, a warrior holding a shield and weapon and wearing a turban-like hat, had been made recently and was carefully carved to give an ancient appearance. Another 66 pieces in the auction also were fakes, they said.
"The figure tries to recreate the Pre-Columbian features of the Maya region in southeastern Mexico but the height, the posture of the flexed legs and the boot straps are not characteristic of this culture," the institute said in a statement.

Benedict Canyon
In the wealthy hillside neighborhoods bordering Beverly Hills, neighbors are blase about the famous names who live next door and keep to themselves.
But the proposal to build a mega-mansion in Benedict Canyon has drawn the residents out from their gated mansions and onto the twisting streets of their stately canyon neighborhood in protest.
Twenty neighbors held a press conference Tuesday to draw attention to the proposed compound that's roughly the size of the famed Hearst Castle and located in the coveted 90210 ZIP code.
They complained that the project is oversized for the narrow streets, that years of construction will destroy their quality of life, that the proposal would create mudslide and fire hazards and that the unidentified owner wasn't acting neighborly.

100th Anniversary
Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
It was a warm spring Saturday when dozens of immigrant girls and women leapt to their deaths - some with their clothes on fire, some holding hands - as horrified onlookers watched the Triangle Shirtwaist factory burn.
The March 25, 1911, fire that killed 146 workers became a touchstone for the organized labor movement, spurred laws that required fire drills and shed light on the lives of young immigrant workers near the turn of the century.
The 100th anniversary comes as public workers in Wisconsin, Ohio and elsewhere protest efforts to limit collective bargaining rights in response to state budget woes. Labor leaders and others say one need only look to the Triangle fire to see why unions are crucial.
To mark the centennial, hundreds of theatrical performances, museum exhibits, lectures, poetry readings, rallies and panel discussions are taking place nationwide. Two documentaries have aired on TV; PBS' "Triangle Fire" premiered Feb. 28 and HBO's "Triangle: Remembering the Fire" on Monday.
