M Is FOR MASHUP - RERUN from January 25th, 2012

Frikkenfrack! Useo's Strangest Mashups X 5!

By DJ Useo

I reach a new milestone in mixing & posting mashups this week as I release the 5th in the FRIKKENFRACK : Useo's Strangest Mashups' series. Yes, it's true. Five full discs worth of very unusual mashups indeed, yet, there's clearly an appeal to listeners & to me. Enough interest to keep me releasing stuff that some would clearly not like me to release. Hahaha. Yup, I've heard from some saying it's demeaning to make such silly mixes. Silly, I agree with. Not so much the demeaning part. I mean, did Steve Allen demean himself with silly songs? Did Frank Zappa demean himself with songs about yellow snow & nasty poodles? Did Tiny Tim…well...maybe I'd better stop while I'm ahead. The accomplishment of five full albums of weird mashups coincides with my completion of ONE HUNDRED (!) 'QRADIPS SHOW w/ DJ Useo' radio shows. If you didn't know, & I'm sure some don't, The QRADIPS SHOW is where I played all the more unusual mashups that abound from producers around the world. I decided to stop production & move to a new format after 100 shows, & durned iffen I didn't make it! You can find 2 best of the QRADIPS SHOW albums still available here

Volume one ( groovytimewithdjuseo.blogspot.com/2011/01/mashups-as-heard-on-qradips-show-w-dj.html )

Volume two ( groovytimewithdjuseo.blogspot.com/2011/08/mashups-as-heard-on-qradips-show-w-dj.html )

Those 2 albums are packed to the gills with the most popular tracks from the radio show. All tracks by other dj's, though. The FRIKKENFRACK series contains only useo-mixed tracks. The new 5th volume is a red-hot collection containing all my most popular wacked-out mashups from the last year, plus 7 incredible new, unreleased bootlegs. All will amuse & bewilder you. Check out this playlist.

No, as you can read, these aren't your 'normal' mashup fare. I wouldn't be surprised if listening to this album wouldn't kill some people. Lol. Not really, but I bet you'll experience many a strange reaction. Most people will have never heard the like. The previous 4 FRIKKENFRACK albums are available currently along with many more regular mashup albums here
( djuseomashupalbums.blogspot.com/ )

Look for the new FRIKKENFRACK 5 album here at my launched for this project site.

Trivia Question of the Day

In what month did Al Capp place Sadie Hawkins Day?

Trivia Question from Yesterday

What is the more common term for an intercalary or bissextile year?

   Leap Year                                                      Source

A leap year (or intercalary or bissextile year) is a year containing one additional day (or, in the case of lunisolar calendars, a month) in order to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical or seasonal year. Because seasons and astronomical events do not repeat in a whole number of days, a calendar that had the same number of days in each year would, over time, drift with respect to the event it was supposed to track. By occasionally inserting (or intercalating) an additional day or month into the year, the drift can be corrected.        Source

And, Joe S     answered:
Leap year. I was going to give another answer but I changed my mind as it seem to overstep the boundary of good taste. By quite a bit. By a whole lot actually. So never mind, the answer is Leap Year. I did tell you about the secret Leap Year Ball my Secret Society of Old Hippies (SSoOH) holds every Leap Year didn't I? I believe I did. And I did tell you how we invite Bob Dylan every (Leap) year? We have every reason to believe he won't show up this year either. Oh well, his loss.

Jupiter, Venus, Moon to make spectacular triple conjunction this weekend (VIDEO) | GlobalPost

Three of the brightest objects in the sky will converge this weekend in a spectacular show.

The alignment of Jupiter, Venus and the Moon - an event known as a triple conjunction - will be visible from everywhere in the world on Saturday and Sunday night.

Jupiter and Venus have been steadily converging throughout February, NASA explained, starting off about 20 degrees apart in the middle of the month and finishing 10 degrees apart at the end of it. The movement will continue until just 3 degrees separate them in mid-March. Group Seeks Degrees For Expelled Gays

Harvard

Students and faculty at Harvard University are urging administrators to award posthumous degrees to seven students expelled from the Ivy League school in 1920 because they were gay or perceived to be gay.

The group plans to hold a rally Wednesday during a campus visit by Lady Gaga, who will be at Harvard to launch her Born This Way anti-bullying foundation. The singer has been a strong activist for the gay community.

The group wants Harvard to formally abolish its so-called "secret court," a tribunal of administrators that investigated charges of homosexual activity among students in 1920. The tribunal remained a secret for decades, only becoming public in 2002 after a student reporter at Harvard searching the school's archive came across a file labeled "secret court" and reported on the school's expulsion of the students.

Harvard administrators apologized for the secret court in 2002.

According to the original report in Harvard Crimson's magazine, the Harvard tribunal began its investigation after Harvard student Cyril Wilcox committed suicide in May 1920. Wilcox was having academic and health problems and had been asked to leave Harvard.

Donates $10,000

Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep has donated $10,000 to a charter school in the struggling Rhode Island city of Central Falls after a plug from fellow actress and hometown favorite Viola Davis.

Angelo Garcia, founder and director of the Segue Institute for Learning, says the check from Streep's Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts arrived Monday. A note said it was on behalf of actress Davis, who grew up in Central Falls.

The Segue Institute has more than 200 students in grades six through eight.

Garcia, who grew up with Davis, says the school is trying to raise money to buy the building it's in or find a new location.

New Sitcom Debuts June 28 On FX

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen will be stirring up a new round of laughs when "Anger Management" arrives June 28.

FX on Tuesday set the premiere date for Sheen's new sitcom, which returns him to weekly TV after his noisy exit last season from the CBS hit "Two and a Half Men." Announced last summer, "Anger Management" is loosely based on the 2003 movie about a non-traditional therapist.

Fox says two episodes will air June 28. It has ordered 10 episodes for the first season.

Scheduled the same night are the second-season premiere of the comedy "Wilfred," starring Elijah Wood and Jason Gann, and the third-season premiere of "Louie," starring Louis C.K.

Rounding out the night is the premiere of "Strangely Uplifting," a new comedy starring Russell Brand.

Friends Of Abe Keeping Wallets Shut

Hollywood Republicans

GOP support may be growing in Hollywood, but the money hasn't exactly been flowing to the party's presidential hopefuls.

Front-runner Mitt Romney has fared the best among the GOP field, picking up donations from Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns, former Metro Goldwyn Mayer chief Harry Sloan, and former Yahoo! and Warner Bros. head Terry Semel, according to recent campaign filings.

Gary Sinise, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jon Voight and Drew Carey apparently have yet to cut a check to any of the presidential aspirants.

Even those that have taken a side remain stubbornly parsimonious. Kelsey Grammar and Wayne Newton endorsed Michele Bachmann during her aborted run, Dean Cain praised former hopeful Rick Perry, and Chuck Norris threw his dropkick behind Newt Gingrich, but none of that support appeared to come with donations.

Tim Pawlenty, who dropped out of the race in August, did get some Hollywood backing before he bowed out: Semel donated $2,500 to his campaign and "Still Standing" star Jami Gertz was so galvanized by the former Minnesota governor's bid for the White House that her contributions exceeded the maximum amount allowed by law and had to be returned.

Comedian Dennis Miller briefly backed Herman Cain, but a spokesman declined to say whether he opened his wallet for him.

Interpol Says Suspected Hackers Arrested

Anonymous

Interpol said Tuesday 25 suspected members of the loose-knit Anonymous hacker movement have been arrested in a sweep across Europe and South America.

The international police agency said in a statement the arrests in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Spain were carried out by national law enforcement officers working under the support of Interpol's Latin American Working Group of Experts on Information Technology Crime.

The suspects are aged between 17 and 40 and are suspected of planning coordinated cyber-attacks against institutions including Colombia's defense ministry and presidential websites, Chile's Endesa electricity company and national library, as well as other targets.

The arrests followed an ongoing investigation begun in mid-February which also led to the seizure of 250 items of IT equipment and mobile phones in searches of 40 premises in 15 cities, Interpol said.

Internal Inquiry Covers Four UK Newspapers

Rupert

A massive email cache that a corporate clean-up team has assembled as part of its effort to cooperate with British police contains message traffic generated by journalists at all four British newspapers once published by Rupert Murdoch, sources familiar with the unit's work said.

The clean-up team, known as the Management and Standards Committee (MSC) of Murdoch's US-based News Corp, is investigating reporting practices across all Murdoch's current and former UK properties, said one of the sources familiar with the company's internal investigations. These include the now-defunct News of the World as well as The Sun, the Times and the Sunday Times, all of which still publish.

From fragments of data which company officials allegedly tried to delete, the MSC and outside consultants managed to assemble a data base containing an estimated 300 million emails covering roughly the last decade, the source said.

A team of police investigators has set up shop in an office suite close to a separate suite in Murdoch's newspaper publishing campus occupied by MSC members and a battery of outside lawyers.

Malaysia Bans Show Over Body Art

Erykah Badu

Muslim-majority Malaysia on Tuesday banned a planned concert by Erykah Badu after a photograph appeared showing the Grammy-winning singer with the Arabic word for Allah written on her body.

The American R&B singer was scheduled to perform Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur, but some Muslim groups said Badu was an unsuitable role model for young Malaysians after seeing a publicity photo of her with what appeared to be temporary tattoos of the word Allah on her bare shoulders.

A government committee that includes police and Islamic policy officials decided to forbid Badu's show because the body art was "an insult to Islam and a very serious offense," Information Minister Rais Yatim said in a statement.

The 41-year-old, Dallas-born singer had already arrived in Malaysia. She can stay as a tourist but will not be allowed to perform, an Information Ministry official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to make public statements.

Va AG Settles With Cuckold

Tareq Salahi

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's office says officials have reached a settlement with a charity run by White House party crasher Tareq Salahi for allegedly making false statements, submitting inaccurate financial statements and soliciting donations without being registered with the state.

The settlement with the Journey for the Cure Foundation and Salahi follows an investigation by the state Office of Consumer Affairs. Under the settlement, the charity must pay $32,500 in civil penalties and attorney fees. Salahi also must pay $2,500 in penalties.

Salahi and his wife, Michaele, gained notoriety in 2009 when they crashed a White House state dinner. Earlier this month, Tareq Salahi filed a $50 million lawsuit against his wife claiming she had an affair with Journey guitarist Neil Schon in an attempt to make money for herself and the band at his expense.

A combination picture shows new and old miniature painting made on discarded chewing gum by artist Ben Wilson on the Millennium Bridge in London February 28, 2012. Wilson has painted miniature works of art on discarded chewing gum in various parts of London and Europe over the past seven years in an effort to "turn something some people would find disgusting into something artistic and beautiful," he said. He chooses gum splatters with unusual shapes "to allow art to happen in a random way."

Art Collector

Mark Lugo

A wine steward who served time in California after going on a bicoastal binge of plucking pricey art off gallery walls and using it to adorn his own home was sentenced Tuesday to prison in New York.

Mark Lugo said simply, "I'm sorry," as a judge sentenced him to one to three years behind bars in New York, though he could be released in six months if he succeeds in a boot camp-style program.

Lugo, 31, previously pleaded guilty to taking a $350,000 drawing by Cubist painter Fernand Leger from a lobby gallery at Manhattan's Carlyle Hotel in June. In the California case, he also admitted to snatching a $275,000 Picasso drawing called "Tete de Femme" ("Head of a Woman") from the Weinstein Gallery in San Francisco in July.

He finished a 138-day California sentence in November, and was brought to New York to face charges that also included stealing five works by the South Korea-born artist Mie Yim from another Manhattan hotel in June. While he admitted specifically to the charge involving the Leger, the guilty plea was accepted as resolving the charges related to the works by Yim, who's known for her disconcerting images of toy bears and other creatures.

Investigators found a $430,000 collection of stolen art - including the Leger, a 1917 piece called "Composition with Mechanical Elements" - hanging in Lugo's apartment in Hoboken, N.J., authorities said.

"The Playboy J-Millz" Ruptured

John Levi Miller

A former professional wrestler is suing his opponent and the Indiana-based promoter who arranged their bout last year, claiming his foe was supposed to lose their match but had other ideas and kicked him so hard in the crotch that one of his testicles ruptured and had to be removed.

John Levi Miller, 23, contends in his lawsuit filed Monday that Clinton Woosley was the the designated "heel," or loser, of their match last June, The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., reported. He says Woosley, who wrestles under the name Guido Andretti, declined his invitation to map out the fight, as is customary, and instead said he understood the plan and that "it would be OK." However, Miller says Woosley tried to win and kicked him hard in the crotch.

Miller, who was a contestant on season two of "Love Games," an Oxygen Channel reality show, could not immediately be reached for comment. Neither he nor Woosley had listed phone numbers. In his bio on the show's website, Miller is described as an aspiring WWE wrestler who has made a few appearances on the WWE circuit as a villain named "The Playboy J-Millz."

Miller's lawyer, Larry Wilder of Jeffersonville, told the paper that Miller applied ice to the swelling after returning home after his match with Woosley, but went to a hospital the next day, where doctors ended up removing his ruptured right testicle.

Gift Horse From UK Police

Rupert's Rebekah

British police gave former News of the World tabloid editor Rebekah Brooks a retired police steed to look after, the force confirmed Tuesday - but they insisted it was not a gift horse.

The Metropolitan Police said the horse was loaned to Brooks - former chief executive of Rupert Murdoch's British newspapers - in 2008 under a program that allows people to care for retired service animals and ride them.

Brooks is married to horse trainer Charlie Brooks and has a country home near Chipping Norton, northwest of London, a posh rural enclave whose residents include Prime Minister David Cameron. Wilson said the couple "share a passion for horses."

Britain's media ethics inquiry is currently looking into claims of crooked relations between the press and police.

Brooks is one of several current and former Murdoch executives who have been arrested and questioned over wrongdoing by the News of the World, whose journalists routinely intercepted the voicemails of people in the public eye in a quest for scoops.

Scientists Say People Aren't Smart Enough

Democracy

The democratic process relies on the assumption that citizens (the majority of them, at least) can recognize the best political candidate, or best policy idea, when they see it. But a growing body of research has revealed an unfortunate aspect of the human psyche that would seem to disprove this notion, and imply instead that democratic elections produce mediocre leadership and policies.

The research, led by David Dunning, a psychologist at Cornell University, shows that incompetent people are inherently unable to judge the competence of other people, or the quality of those people's ideas. For example, if people lack expertise on tax reform, it is very difficult for them to identify the candidates who are actual experts. They simply lack the mental tools needed to make meaningful judgments.

As a result, no amount of information or facts about political candidates can override the inherent inability of many voters to accurately evaluate them. On top of that, "very smart ideas are going to be hard for people to adopt, because most people don't have the sophistication to recognize how good an idea is," Dunning told Life's Little Mysteries.

He and colleague Justin Kruger, formerly of Cornell and now of New York University, have demonstrated again and again that people are self-delusional when it comes to their own intellectual skills. Whether the researchers are testing people's ability to rate the funniness of jokes, the correctness of grammar, or even their own performance in a game of chess, the duo has found that people always assess their own performance as "above average" - even people who, when tested, actually perform at the very bottom of the pile.

Wild Parrots Spread To The 'Burbs

San Francisco

The famous wild parrots of San Francisco's Telegraph Hill have spread their wings to the suburbs.

About a hundred of the green birds have been spotted on the slopes of San Bruno Mountain in Brisbane, a city about 10 miles south of San Francisco, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday.

The birds probably migrated there in search of food, said Mark Bittner, author of the best-selling book, "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill." The book and a documentary of the same name several years ago helped make the birds a tourist draw in San Francisco.

The playful birds - native to South America - with their cherry-colored heads are known to dart acrobatically and chirp at high decibels.

A flock of about 100 can be found around the northern edge of San Francisco, where the first of their kind likely escaped from a pet importer and then adapted to the city's chill and fog and the presence of humans.
