Mashup Comp Roundup February
By DJ Useo
Mmm-mmm, I sure love the taste of a fine mashup. What could please a person of deep mix passions such as I more than a fine mashup compilation? How about 5 new mashup collections? Yup,I'm here to tell you there's five (5!) new mashup collections out that cover enough stylistic variety to please nearly everyone! You'd think I'd still be sated by the great collections you've read about here since 2010 began, but like Dracula presented with a new batch of blood-filled peasants, I am thirsting for more. Well, the damn has broke with these five swell new mashup records.
First up is 'SEX MASHINE' ( sugamotor.blogspot.com/2010/02/sex-mashine-by-sugamotor-and-friends.html ) a collection that presents you with a theme you will all find engaging. This red hot collection is the first from mashup juggernaut Sugamotor & bodes well for future comps from him & his horndog mixing buddies. This record is truly an international orgy with potent contributions from Ben Double M, Dunproofin', DJ Fac, DJ Giac, LeeDM101, Marc Johnce, Mighty Mike, RoM1RoM, ToToM and ZoOm. You'll hear them addressing the erotic subject through mixes of such artists as Snoop Dogg, Madonna, Diana Ross, Kelis, Massive Attack, Mariah Carey, Tiefschwarz, Tina Turner & many more. This collection really should come with at least one con-dom. lol
Next we direct our gaze to the just-posted today Mashup-Industries release 'Café del Mash Volume 2' ( www.mashup-industries.com/ ). This wonderfully-chilled masterpiece reprises last years splendid volume 1. Again lightning strikes with talents like Tone396, DJ Clive$ter, MarcJohnce, DJ Schmolli, & Dan Mei, with many more strong mixers presenting their tasty wares. The Homogenic Chaos gives us 'Heavy Listen To Relax' (Ludvig & Stelar vs. The Gossip vs. Roxette vs. Smoke City), Qubic hits a home run with 'Much More Than A Kiss' (Diana Krall vs Goloka vs Ancient Future vs Michael Darius), with Krazyben providing the direct hit 'Hypersonic Sweet Music' (Hooverphonic vs. Royksopp vs. Bass Fly). If you are into mellow, brilliant mixing, give yourself a treat & devour this fine collection.
What mashup fan doesn't enjoy rap-oriented tracks? Knowing this, various German & Austrian Mashup DJs/Producers under the BOOTIE BERLIN / MASHUP YOUR BOOTZ' moniker teamed up with the Berlin Rap-MC-Duo & Soundsystem Smith & Smart, to mash & remix their latest album release "Beides". Each track uses the new Smith & Smart album as a starting point, then goes wild with bootleg creativity.'SMITH & SMART - MASH-BEIDES:mashed up & remixed' ( mashupyourbootz.blogspot.com/2010/02/smith-smart-mash-beides.html ) is a fully-realized modern confection with the satisfying flavour of Germanic rap put to the wide variety available from modern mashing. Tracks like DJ Morgoth's 'Song for Berlin' (Blur vs. Smith & Smart), Dr.Waumiau's 'Mehrfach Verknallt.org' (Smith & Smart vs. Missy Elliott vs. Justin Timberlake vs. Shakira vs. Black Eyed Peas vs. Reel 2 Real), & Ed Home's 'Let Good Music Passieren' (Smith & Smart vs. Beats International vs. Usher feat. Ludacris) hammer home excellent mixing with strong appeal over & over again. This collection will interest everyone internationally.
The next album holds special delight for me as I collected & released it. 'The Best Of Sound-Unsound Top 10 Countdown Album' ( sound-unsoundtop10countdown.blogspot.com/2010/02/best-of-sound-unsound-top-10-countdown.html ) collects each of the number one tracks from the popular weekly Sound-Unsound Radio show 'Sound-Unsound Top 10 Countdown' ( sound-unsoundtop10countdown.blogspot.com/ ). The first 14 episodes I had the honour of hosting myself. Now with brand-new host DJ Petrushka stepping in to share her mic charms, we thought it a great point to release an overview album of what makes the show essential bootleg listening. On this free album, you'll hear keeper gems like DJ Spider's 'Beat That Boom Boom Pow' (Michael Jackson vs Black Eyed Peas), Mr. Wyse's remix of Orange Juice's 'Rip It Up', & Colatron's 'A Happy Heavenly Day' (Orbital vs Halcyon vs Belinda Carlisle vs Opus III). I not only enjoyed hosting & collecting this batch, but I mastered the project & drew the cover! These are all time & audience-etsted tracks that will rock your world! New shows every Sunday on Sound-Unsound Radio.
Lastly I present to you my long-finished 'IP3-INTENSE PSYCHEDELIA 3' ( groovytimewithdjuseo.blogspot.com/2010/02/dj-useo-ip3-intense-psychedelia-3-full.html ) , the third album in this mind-blowing series. It's a combination of my previously-released psych-rock mashups with a good handful of brand new previously unreleased tracks. If you heard either of the first 2 'INTENSE PSYCHEDELIA' albums you know what to expect. Contained under pressure in this new album are tracks like 'Learning To Rock' (Pink Floyd vs Burn In Noise), 'Detachable Ballerup' (King Missile vs Annoying Ninjas), & 'Revolution Neutrino Forever' (Beatles vs Klaatu). I mainly do this genre of mix for my own personal enjoyment, but the download numbers tell a story of large appeal to many others. Grab it now before the fun police put the kibosh to it. lol. A special feature of the 'INTENSE PSYCHEDELIA' series are the animated, heavily-psychedelic covers from ANDY_S. Check out this new moving gif cover here ( i85.photobucket.com/albums/k67/useo8/DJ%20Useo%20Covers%202/DJUSEO-IP3.gif?t=1266786811 ).
Who would have thought such musical joy would exist in this modern age of recast music. Enjoy them & please leave comments for the mixers. They don't get to sell these records, so your feedback is the currency they crave.
This weeks featured mix just happens to be the latest Useo happening as well. 'DJ Useo-Channel X - experimental mix' is not really music, but more of an aural adventure in mixing. Before you say 'nay' glom onto this comment on the mix from phenomenal mixer, Warvadal - "This is Great. Mind-bending…Thought enducing to the MAX".See for yourself what this one-of-a-kind mix is like here ( www.bmbx.org/2010/02/channel-x/ ).
Mashup Tip : Clip your fingernails before opening any mixing program to avoid extra clicking sounds.

Declared Historic Building
Abbey Road Studios
The Beatles' Abbey Road Studios were officially declared a historic building Tuesday, a move that will help preserve the cultural landmark that is a magnet for fans worldwide.
The crosswalk outside the iconic north London studios draws tourists with cameras daily, and the facilities have also hosted Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck and Radiohead and are still popular with orchestras.
But their cash-strapped owner EMI Group Ltd. says the studios have been losing money for years and has only recently shelved plans to sell them. While EMI now says it's looking for money to help revitalize the studios, news that it was seeking to offload Abbey Road sparked dismay among music fans.
Former Beatle Paul McCartney said he hoped it could be preserved, while English Heritage - the body that oversees buildings of historic interest - appealed to the government to name it a historic building.

Voice Of Speedy Gonzales
George Lopez
Speedy Gonzales is taking his folk-hero status, incredible speed and signature red kerchief to the big screen, with help from George Lopez.
The comedian is attached to provide the voice of the fastest mouse in all Mexico for a politically correct live-action/CG hybrid feature set up at New Line Cinema.
Over the years, Speedy appeared in the live-action/animation features "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," "Space Jam" and "Looney Tunes: Back in Action." But the character has often courted criticism that the ethnic characterizations of him and his compatriots (especially lazy cousin Slowpoke Rodriguez) are stereotypically racist and severely outdated.
"We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s -- the racist Speedy," said the comedian's wife Ann Lopez, who will serve alongside him as a producer. "Speedy's going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he's a little too fast for what they do. He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the world to find what he's good at."

Beat By A Pickle
Nickelback
Does a pickle or the Canadian band Nickelback have more fans? It may be a joke, but the answer might not have the band laughing -- a pickle.
A group on Facebook called "Can this pickle get more fans than Nickleback?" hit its goal over the weekend, notching up 1.4 million fans. The post-grunge band Nickelback had 1.38 million on Facebook, but has since topped 1.4 million.
The group was started as a joke earlier this month by a Facebook user called Coral Anne, with the band's name deliberately spelled wrong on the page to get around copyright infringement.
The teenager wrote that the page was inspired by another Facebook page called "Can this onion ring get more fans than Justin Bieber?" which she had found amusing.

FX Renews
"Archer"
FX has ordered a second season of its animated espionage comedy "Archer," which just completed its first season.
The series' seven-episode season averaged 1.2 million viewers on Thursday nights. The network has ordered 13 episodes for the next round.
"Archer" follows the intrigue at an international spy agency whose highly trained employees constantly confuse, undermine, betray and royally screw one another. The voice cast includes H. Jon Benjamin, Jessica Walter, Aisha Tyler and Judy Greer.
"The new series boasts eye-catching animation and dollops of sex and violence but only enough humor to elicit occasional chuckles," according to The Hollywood Reporter's review. "If you eliminate the references to sexual perversions, even the smiles are few and far between."
Returns To '24'
Kiefer Sutherland
The clock will start ticking again for "24" when Kiefer Sutherland returns to the set Monday after surgery that shut down filming of the Fox network thriller for two weeks.
A statement released Tuesday from Twentieth Century Fox Television says Sutherland has been cleared to return to work.
The studio says no disruption is expected in the airing schedule. The show began its eighth season last month.
Neither the studio nor Sutherland's representative has commented on the nature of Sutherland's ailment. The Los Angeles Times first reported the production halt and says Sutherland suffered from a ruptured cyst near his kidney.

Convicted
Natavia Lowery
The personal assistant of a punk-rock pioneer and celebrity real estate broker was convicted Tuesday of bludgeoning her boss to death with a piece of exercise equipment.
Jurors spent less than a day reaching a second-degree murder verdict in the Manhattan trial against Natavia Lowery, the personal assistant to Linda Stein, who managed the Ramones before becoming a real estate agent with celebrity clients including Madonna and Sting. Lowery showed no reaction when the verdict was read.
Prosecutors said Lowery stole more than $30,000 from Stein, then clubbed her to death to try and hide the theft.
Lowery had worked for about three months for Stein before the 62-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death in her Fifth Avenue apartment on Oct. 30, 2007. Blood was spattered in her living room and her skull was fractured as she was hit about two dozen times.

Probing Rigged Show
FCC
The kiddie game show "Our Little Genius" has caught the attention of federal regulators over accusations it might have been rigged.
The Federal Communications Commission is reviewing the allegations included in a complaint received in December from the father of a young whiz slated to compete on the Fox show, which has been shelved.
The father's name was redacted from the compliant that was obtained by The Associated Press under the Freedom of Information Act. He alleged his child was coached by Mark Burnett Productions employees.
The show was yanked last month by producer Mark Burnett, who said he discovered "an issue" with how some information was relayed to the contestants.
Tries Again
CBS
After six years of legal wrangling and one Supreme Court review of Janet Jackson's infamous Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction," CBS argued anew Tuesday that it should not be held responsible for the half-second of nudity.
The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia had thrown out the FCC's $550,000 fine against CBS as arbitrary, only to have the U.S. Supreme Court kick it back down for review. The Supreme Court pointed to its ruling in a Fox Television-led challenge, when it said the FCC could threaten fines over the use of a single curse word on live TV.
The FCC argued Tuesday that CBS was duly warned that its 2004 halftime performers might add some shock value to the act. Jackson's choreographer had promised as much, FCC lawyer Jacob Lewis said. During the act, singer Justin Timberlake ripped off Jackson's bustier, exposing her breast for nine-sixteenths of a second.
CBS complained that the FCC had previously applied the same decency standards to words and images - and excused fleeting instances of both.

Staff Cutbacks
ABC News
ABC News staffers got a memorandum Tuesday that promises to leave no part of the organization untouched, and will lead to massive personnel reductions by the end of 2010.
Although the memo from ABC News President David Westin specified no numbers, it was believed the goal for cutbacks is as high as one-quarter of the ABC News staff, which currently totals about 1,400.
He said personnel reductions would begin with voluntary buyouts to be offered employees in the days ahead. If the target number isn't reached, layoffs will likely follow.
The memo listed several provisions of the news division's restructuring plan, including an expanded use of digital journalists (who both produce and shoot their own stories), the combination of weekday and weekend operations for both "Good Morning America" and "World News," and, at the newsmagazines and other long-form programming, "a more flexible blend of staff and freelancers."
Halts Production For Rehab
Charlie Sheen
CBS is temporarily halting production of television's top-rated comedy, "Two and a Half Men," following news from Charlie Sheen's publicist that the actor is in rehab and is taking a break from the show.
Publicist Stan Rosenfield announced Tuesday that Sheen has entered a rehab facility "as a preventative measure." He asked for privacy for Sheen, 44, but did not specify why the embattled actor was seeking treatment.
Sheen's bosses expressed support for the actor in a statement that said they were temporarily stopping production of the show.
The statement offered no timetable for when the show would resume taping.

Advises Aspiring Screenwriter
Scalia
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (R-Sanctimonious) has opened a screenwriting workshop.
The conservative justice took time out of his busy schedule to write a letter to an aspiring screenwriter who asked 10 Supreme Court justices (including retiree Sandra Day O'Connor) to weigh in on a 12-page treatment for a comedy film about Maine seceding from the United States to join Canada. The scribe, Daniel Turkewitz, wanted to know how the secession issue would play out at the Supreme Court.
Only Scalia replied: "I cannot imagine that such a question could ever reach the Supreme Court. To begin with, the answer is clear. If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede."
Some people may wish to debate Scalia, but it's perhaps more notable that the 73-year-old justice bothered to respond. Maybe the judge behind some of the court's most articulate and biting opinions wants to ditch Washington for a second career in Hollywood.
Recall that back in October, Scalia mused about what it would be like if television showed sheep hunting. And Scalia loves to cite Season 2 of "24" to make a point on torture. "Jack Bauer saved Los Angeles ... he saved hundreds of thousands of lives," he was once quoted as saying. "Are you going to convict Jack Bauer?"
